5-0 out of 5 stars One of Leica's Most Popular -Though Quite Expensive - New Lenses for M-mount Rangefinder Cameras
Ever since this lens's introduction over a year ago, it has proven to be a popular new addition to the Leica M rangefinder camera system. A friend who works at one of the premier USA Leica dealerships has told me that it's been difficult for him to keep up with the strong demand for this fine medium telephoto lens. Indeed, the reports I have read about this new 75mm lens have been absolutely sensational, starting with a glowing review from no less an authority than Erwin Puts himself (www.imx.nl)!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fine Fast Moderate Telephoto Lens for Leica M-mount rangefinder cameras
The 75mm f1.4 Summilux-M telephoto lens still remains one of the famous designs for the Leica M rangefinder camera system. It is a lens which has been favored by those photographers working under low-light conditions, who need the slightly narrow field of view offered by the 75mm lens. I have seen excellent black and white and color photography taken with the 75mm f1.4 Summilux. Admittedly, it is not as sharp and contrasty a lens wide open as the new 75mm f2 APO-Summicron ASPH, but here the difference lies on whether one wishes to obtain a "pastel" quality or a more vivid, realistic image in photographic images made with either 75mm lens (Or those on a budget may also contemplate the purchase of the Voigtlander 75mm lens which I have heard is a fine performer in its own right, inspite of its relatively inexpensive cost.). This venerable 75mm lens was designed by the late Dr. Walter Mandler, for many years, Leica's chief lens designer at its Canadian subsidary in Midland, Ontario, Canada (The lens was also manufactured in Canada; only within the past few years has its manufacture been moved to Solms, Germany.). I haven't used a 75mm lens yet, so I'm not sure whether I would want to acquire this 75mm lens or purchase instead the new 75mmm APO-Summicron. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Portrait Lens
I own this lens and love it. It's relatively fast speed, coupled with it's perfect optics is ideal for anyone wanting to take great pictures - even in low light situations.Plus it's perfect for portraits where you can step back and give the subject a little room to relax; or for other types of photography where you need to get in a little closer for the details. I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone - but first you have to get the camera it works with (i.e., the G1/G2) which has unfortunately been discontinued since the company has decided to no longer be in business.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best 35mm medium telephoto lenses
The Carl Zeiss 90mm f2.8 Sonnar lens for the Contax G autofocus 35mm rangefinder cameras is among the finest medium telephoto lenses I have used in 35mm photography. It produces sharp and contrasty photographs at all of its apertures, especially wide open at f2.8. It is as good a performer as the Leica M 90mm f2 Apo-Summicron under practical working conditions; under test conditions, the Leica lens is probably better. I am glad I have this lens as part of my Contax G2 kit. This splendid lens has received considerable praise from several major photography magazines, most notably Popular Photography. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Splendid, Though Expensive, 90mmm Lens for Leica M Rangefinder Cameras
The Leica 90mm f2.8 Elmarit-M lens was among the first of Leica's new lens designs; it is also one of the finest medium telephoto lenses ever produced. It is based on the 90mm f4 Elmar-C (Or 90mm f4 Leitz Rokkor which Leica had made for Minolta - I own this version and remain impressed by its excellent optical quality.) lens made for the Leica CL, which is still reputed to be among the finest telephoto lenses Leica has ever made for its M mount rangefinder cameras. This lens is almost as fine optically as the 90mm f2 APO Summicron lens, though lacks the latter's excellence with regards to contrast and resolution at the maximum lens aperture of f2.8. Those in search of a relatively inexpensive Leica telephoto lens for their rangefinder cameras will not be disappointed with the Elmarit, and may find it more preferably, since it is smaller, more compact, and weighs less than the Summicron. ...
