3-0 out of 5 stars Great Images, although slow and buggy
When I owned this scanner I thought the image quality was top noch. Colors were acurate. Details and sharpness were good.I was using on a Win98 machine. However, it was very slow and I kept having to reinstall the twain drivers because they would get corrupt causing green or black scans. It was much worse when I switched to WinME. Then when I upgraded to WinXP I just got rid of it. I have not been to happy with what I replaced it with, the Epson perfection 1660, so I'm currently looking for another scanner.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worse than a 70's Clunker running on unleaded gas
I've had this "scanner" for about 3 years now.Let's put it this way:I had time to go watch an episode of Friends while this thing completed a 300dpi scan. It has given me nothing but trouble from the beginning, and the other reviews are correct in that there is no support for any new OS's (Win 2000, XP, etc.) short of purchasing new drivers from the manufacturer.Umax is a bunch of daft cretins if they actually think anyone will waste their money on such inferior support.I was fortunate enough to find a pirated copy of their updated drivers (it came from overseas and was in a different language) so I could use the scanner with XP.Surprisingly it worked but that didn't stop the errors and incredible slowness this machine is notorious for.I wish Amazon would add negative stars to their scale. 2-0 out of 5 stars UMAX Astra 1220P - Support Issue
Scanner works well with Windows 98.However, is now obsolete with Win-XP unless I purchase an updated driver from UMAX.I am not happy with this hidden cost. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A piece of Junk
If you purchase this scanner be prepared to spend a few hourstrying to load the driver and getting the computer to recognize the scanner, which it never will...ha, ha. The trip to Cyber Hades has only begun ...come join along.
1-0 out of 5 stars Crap, Crap, Crap!!!
There is no other way to put it. All Visioneers are garbage. Purchased my 2nd one (after first one died for no reason after a year) and have experienced many problems.Lately it won't let me scan anything because of an error saying to "unlock your scanner".There is no Freakin lock on the darn thing!!!After contacting the company many many times (btw - there customer service sucks! - No telephone number, unless u pay $2 per minute, just a computer-generated machine that unsuccessfully helps you called SARA). I finally put a claim in through the Better Busines Beaureau, there response was that they couldn't send me a new scanner cause it was after 1 year of my purchase, but they would be so kind enough as to let me purchase a new one and give me 25% off of their price (which was probably an elevated price). I told them to kiss off! Anyway - please don't buy this product or any Visioneer product - they Suk!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not REAL Bad, but...
I purchased this scanner for its ability to scan transparancies, and so far it seems to be doing the job. However, compared to my primary scanner (Lexmark X5150), I found using it as a stand-alone very confusing and finally started using it only through my PaintShop Pro 7.When it's in operation, it sounds as if it's grinding coffee, and there's now a very discernable (and growing) streak on the inside of the glass.I'd swap it out if it had been purchased locally, but for what it cost, I'm not going to bother, since it's already paid for itself over what it would have cost to have the transparencies scanned.

1-0 out of 5 stars Xerox 6400
The Xerox 6400 scanner comes with lots of software, including PaperPort SE for managing documents and ArcSoft Scrapbook Suite for editing photos and creating collages for scrapbooks. Unfortunately, the package is undermined by relatively low scan quality for the claimed 3,200-ppi resolution and 48-bit color depth.

1-0 out of 5 stars Prone to hardware failure
All HP Scanjets, EXCEPT HP Scanjet 2300c, are equipped with an exclusive combination of two sensors: Staggered pixel CCD and Tri-linear CCD.
4-0 out of 5 stars Works great and is versatile!
I have used mine not only for making copies of documents but also to scan coins (e.g.- for sale on eBay). It works great! The top cover can be easily raised an inch or so for larger objects. Speed and scan quality have been fine for my purposes.

1-0 out of 5 stars Never buy HP again!
Where is the zero star????Every HP product I have ever own sucked. We used to buy HP inkjet printers and after one would break, we would buy another one to replace it.Talk about stupid. Finally replaced it with a Canon i950.Absolutely no problem. So I see this HP scanner for sale and I decide to give HP another try and I buy it.All the scans have a freaking vertical blue line intersecting every scan.Piece of sh*t scanner.I returned it the next day and vowed to never ever buy another HP product. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not a happy Canon i860 customer
I've had this printer for less than 2 yrs and it has stopped printing anything normally. The only colors that will print are black and cyan.I've tried everything, print head cleaning, etc, and it still doesn't print the correct colors.I refuse to pay Canon $9.95 to tell me the print head is shot....I'm assuming this is what's wrong after reading some of the reviews.I think it's an excellent idea that Canon not manufacture any more of these printers.....apparently Canon does too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cleaning the i860 Printhead
2 years and a super printer. Very fast and stunning photo quality! Thanks Amazon!
3-0 out of 5 stars Canon i860 print head and cleaning issues
We have owned a Canon i860 for about 1 1/2 years now.It started out ok but the print heads need cleaning badly because of streaking and gaps in color prints. The head cleaning capability has stopped working and it will no longer perform this maintenance procedure. Also, the color reservoirs are somewhat expensive compared to what you can now get for other printers like HP.If I had it to do over I would get an HP printer that replaces the printer head along with the ink when you need to refill the ink. That way there is less likelihood of a clogged printer head after many months of service. The Canon help reference that came with the printer, both printed and on screen are less than helpful at times.I always like Canon products but have run out of patience with this printer and the accompanying software. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Ditto - I too HATE this infernal printer !!!
this printer has ruined any joy or anticipation that might come from digital photography.the constant clogging and multiple cleaning passes required whenever i decide to print has made printing torture.so why dont i smash this infernal japanese torture machine with a baseball bat?dont think i havent fantasized long and hard about it, 'just wait till the cartridge is empty' i tell myself, which takes all of 10 pages, but nooo i buy another cartridge!why?why?why do i go on with this living hell?yes, i need a new printer, but will i ever buy another epson anything?NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Constant Clogging
This printer would have to be the worst printer I have ever owned.Though I have never had good luck with any inkjet printer in the past, this particular printer takes the award for worst ever. The nozzles CONSTANTLY clog and you are left with gaps and smears throughout your printed pages. The only way I can get it to make a decent print is to run the head cleaning utility a minimum of 4 times before I print.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst printer I have ever had!
I have never had a printer more annoying and troublesome than this printer.I love the color that Epson printers can achieve but this printer has given me so much headache.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not worthy of the HP name
This scanner has many good points, but doesn't live up to the HP name.It warms up slowly, scans slowly, and the manual slide mechanism on the 6390 version is a pain. I bought it to support a busy customer reception area, and it just isn't up to the job. Being a relatively expensive scanner, and an HP, I expected more.5-0 out of 5 stars Fast and quality scanner!
I have this scanner for more than a 1.5 years now. I have choosen it because it's HP, and for the document feeder (there is no slide adapter with the 6350, it is bundeled with the 6390).3-0 out of 5 stars Requires Minor Quality Tweaks
I did not purchase my 6350 at Amazon, but did so elsewhere.I have lived with this scanner for 2 months now. Here are my thoughts on this product.Note that the 3-stars and title I give this product are slightlymisleading. The scanning quality is exceptional. The automatic documentfeeder (ADF) is a huge plus, and convenience. The software packageincluded is alright. The setup and connections were no problems at all. With minor tweaking of this product, HP could really make it a scanner thatwill get it 5-stars in every category.Consider the following: 1.Thescanner does not include faxing software, or at least I could not find any. This is a minor issue, however.... 2.The scanner optical"glass" surface had smudge marks and foggy spots, right out ofthe box.Perhaps better quality control/assurance practices at HP will fixthis.Items with such obvious defects should never leave the manufacturingfacility.Note that the average user cannot clean the underside of thescanner "glass".Hp does not recommend this for the 6350. 3.HPshould have packaged the standard document cover with this unit as well. In cases where the ADF is required to be removed for repairs, the standardtop could easily be put on. 4.The construction and design of the unit isnot conducive to keeping the interior dust free.I state this as thechassis has several visible openings, that could introduce dust, fibresinto the inside of the scanner.Perhaps HP designed it this way forventilation and dessipation of built up heat from the unit.HP couldperhaps better the design in future versions of this model.Since the 6300is the identical model without the ADF, this fact applies to it as well, and other similar HP models too. In summary, I am quite pleased with thisproduct. It does have the potential to be a GREAT product with a littlemore effort on HP's part. Sincerely, aba4430 ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Ran a great race, but died in the backstretch
I bought this printer new almost two years ago.Great job on photos, good color, tack sharp images.Last week (while printing a text only job) the ink carriage jammed on the left side of the rail.I had to remove the top of the printer to free it.Ever since then, the printer is a wonderful door stop.Local repair/service types recommend, "Buy a new printer."The cost of repair vs. a new printer backs this up.My new Canon i9900 is a dream come true.RIP faithful HP 7350.

This scanner will sacan for you once there will be about a 2% chance that the image is not covered with lines.after that windows will pop up and say that the USB device is not regonized and youll have to uninstall and reinstall the drivers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great scanner at a GREAT price
I love my scanner. I got it last Christmas and have been using it non-stop without any problems ever since. I did have a little trouble hooking it up at first, but it turned out that I wasn't reading the directions as well as I should have been. So that was my fault, not theres. It is easy to operate and I love the programs that come with! They are great for picture making! Great product! Very happy that I got it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding scans of platen materials...
I have used this scanner for a little over a year now, and it really provides incredible results on printed and other opaque materials.Colors are very true (perhaps a slight warming on the color-temperature, as others have mentioned), and sharpness is fantastic. The scan-times were relatively slow, but an upgrade to a USB 2.0 card on my computer (cost me about $20) solved that problem.Scans times are very acceptable now.I have never had much use for the OCR software, but it seems intuitive enough and does a decent job.The rest of the software is not used much either (aside from the drivers, of course). My only beef: the transparency scanner is not what it was cracked up to be.The few negative scans I have made did not come out so well, and the reported competency of the integrated transparency scanner was one of the selling points for me.Maybe this is as good as it gets for a flatbed with an adaptor, but if you really want to get good results with transparencies, get a dedicated film scanner. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good printer ruined by print stickiness problem
I have had this for about a year - great looking results, especially if corrected and printed from a good software package. The stickiness problem seems insurmountable.I have tried several different papers and drying times up to 3 weeks, but they will always stick to photo album transparent material (have tried several brands).I wish HP would sought this problem out - also occurs with prints from other HP printer models. Finally bought a Cannon Selphy dye-sub printer which does not have this problem.

2-0 out of 5 stars Quantity not quality
At the time of purchase I was considering a few cameras.I not only considered the individual cost but also the price of paper and ink.At the time I thought that I had made the right choice by selecting the most cost efficient item. The printer is very easy to use and prints quickly. For quick prints where quality is not that important this printer is great. If you want quality pictures this printer does not even come close to its counterparts. My friend bought the Kodak printer the same day.Her printer is slower and runs out of ink faster but the prints are phenomenal. My prints come out more quickly but the quality is just not there even when set to all of the best options.I wish now that I had gone another route. The printer has just one color cartridge for all colors, however if you print a lot of one color (example pictures at the ocean) then other prints look oddly greenish or redish without the cartridge suggesting a change.I also have a problem with stickiness, I have tried both the premium HP paper as well as other brands and it comes out sticky. The pictures stick to my frames and scrapbook covers even after several hours of drying time. For quick pictures to pin on a bulletin board or give to kids this is great, but for memorable lasting photos this isin't the best bet.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in NY
At first I loved this printer, it is simple to use and can be used alone or through your pc.Unfortunately the photos never dry.At first I thought it was because I either framed them or put them in an album before they had a chance to dry.I then printed some and let them sit out to dry for weeks and the photos never dried.Any photos that I have framed eventually stick to the glass, particularily the darker spots of the photo.I even got a new printer from HP and still encountered the same problem...has anyone else had this problem? (Yes I am using the correct HP paper and ink) ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars the Plug stopped working
I bought the scanner a year or 2 ago and every thing was working properly, until I connected it to my new computer a week ago and it wasn't detected by windows. I did some testing and found out that the plug stopped working. It doesn't have a light in the front, so I don't know if it's getting power, but I connected another plug and windows detected the scanner and installed it. then I found out that the plug was the under powered(I needed 12v, 650mA, The one I used one that was 9V, 300mA). So I bought one that was 18v 1100mA that worked with a printer at a second hand store, figuring it would work with the scanner, and that the voltage and current was just the maximum value that it could support. Since I'm studying Electrical Engineering I know this is possible and if the product doesn't it's probably so you have to buy the exact same kind of plug.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great scanner especially for the price
I've used this scanner for archiving old photos, general scanning, and importing line art for coloring in Photoshop & GIMP. I've been very happy with it. The resolution & color quality is great for my uses and it's reasonably fast too. I have used this scanner on 3 different PCs and haven't had a single setup issue.
5-0 out of 5 stars Husband loves it.
In less than a month my husband has already scanned more than 500 antique and more recent family photos with it, dating from the 1890's to present. It is portable and has allowed him to work on this masssive and still-incomplete project in various locations. The photos have provided us many a fun jaunt down memory (and pre-memory) lane as they are projected in slide shows on his computer screen. The scanner is perfect for this application. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fuji NX-70 Printer
Even though the printer specs do not include Smart Media cardsabove 16MB, I had no problems reading a 32 MB card. You must have a TV plugged in in order to operate the unit. The prints turned out very well.I found that if I wanted to edit the prints (size and color) on my PC them place them back on my Smart Media card, I could improve the printing significantly.I find the media a bit expensive, but for a low cost printer that will be used for an occasional photo quality print, it is worth having it. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Shoddy hardware/software integration
We purchased this product with the expectation of using the automatic document feeder to scan and store documents. We have two other scanners but none with a document feeder. After fiddling with the scanner for hours, and after more than an hour with Micro-tek technical support, we were informed that the Macintosh software controlling the document feeder was defective with no date for any fixes. We were told that we could keep the scanner while checking their web site for fixes, or return the scanner. Conse-quently, as the scanner was of no use to us, we returned it. It is amazing to us that a com-pany can ship a product and software which doesn't work together. We can't imagine that we're the first Macintosh users to test this product, yet it took Microtek technical support more than an hour to figure out the software didn't work. We'll never buy another Micro-tek product again. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor software, cannot run as limited user
I have had no hardware problems with the two 9650s I have in the office, but the software bundled with this scanner is terrible (at least on XP). (1) There's a broken online registration stage during the install, which wants you to register but then can't connect to the server; (2) possibly related to 1, the scanner is not detected when you are asked to plug the USB cable in, despite what the docs say - you just have to click finish and hope it is detected after reboot; (3) DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT to set this thing up for a limited user. Textbridge won't work. You need to be at least a power user. Even then, you have to make sure you run every piece of software in the bundle, especially ScanDirect, first, as admin, before you can do so as power user. (4) other fun problems with this software include the mysterious presence of two Visioneer TWAIN drivers in every 'select scanner' list, only one of which works, a weird problem where all scans from within Acrobat 7 came out inverted (white on black) after running the TextBridge setup utility, the TWAIN interface previewing fine, but refusing to scan, the TWAIN interface ignoring what you set as paper source (flatbed or ADF) and color/bw settings and doing whatever it wants, with no recourse. I have reinstalled this entire package once on for one of the scanners, and three times for the other.
1-0 out of 5 stars Broke down after 3 months
The ADF motor burned up and melted the plastic after 3 months. After numerous aggravated phone calls to visioneer tech support, they sent a replacement that is a refurbished one.The light on the refurbished model now takes a whole 1 minute to warm up.So I'm sick of calling into visioneer tech, went out and bought a fujitsu scanner, more expensive but much better quality.

3-0 out of 5 stars Save money and buy Xerox 510
This is a decent scanner with respectible specification. It works as well as comparible scanners on the market and includes a good software bundle. But do yourself a favor and buy the Xerox Documate 510 if you like this scanner. It is the exact same hardward/software bundle with a different name on the front for almost half the cost. ...
