1-0 out of 5 stars Great idea, too bad it doesn't work
I have a 15 year old Garmin GPS that can capture GPS satellites quickly in my backyard. I have a new Garmin Nuvi that can capture GPS satellites inside my house! For some reason the Celestron engineers decided to use some ancient GPS technology that can only capture the GPS satellites if you are in outer space actually sitting on one of the GPS satellites.
1-0 out of 5 stars Too many conditions
We have enough open sky for DirectTV, but apparently not enough for this item to pick up the GPS satellites.I manually entered my latitude and longitude only to get a big M for magnetic interference.Yes, we have electricity and power lines near our house, and this thing won't work with them there.I would have to drive a long way to find an open field.I got this thing for my backyard! If I could see the entire sky, I could figure out where objects are much easier and would not need it so much.I agree it really sucks batteries.I've been through 1 1/2 sets and haven't even gotten to work yet.The store I bought it from has only a seven day return policy, so I can't even send it back.Very disappointed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Clever but not stellar!
It really sucks batteries, they should have used at least 4 AA cells. The GPS resolution only goes down to minutes, no seconds. It's all plastic and for $400 I expected higher quality. It won't help you find man-made satellites as I suspect the processor is too slow and there is not even a way to display the present elevation and azimuth although it must know them for internal calculations.Updating the firmware is way slow.Under "Tonight's Highlights" it may show from the menu that Jupiter for example is visible but when I tried to locate it, it has me point the unit into the dirt since if the object was not above my horizon.Maybe they could highlight menu objects that are truly visible? You're much better off with Starry Night and a laptop. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Compact Binoculars at Affordable Price
These are great little binoculars that I use quite often. They are so compact and lightweight that I grab them whenever I leave the house - whether it be for a boat ride around the lake or just a quick ride.I don't see quite as well when I leave my eyeglasses on and it does take a little bit more adjusting to get the focus right with eyeglasses, but they are a great pair of binoculars for the price.I am very impressed with the quality of them.

2-0 out of 5 stars SO DISAPPOINTED IN THESE.
COULD NOT WAIT TO GET THESE FOR BIRD WATCHING IN MY YARD. READ ALL THE REVIEWS, THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE GRAND. TOO HARD TO FOCUS, THE BIRD IS GONE BY THAT TIME. SPORTING EVENTS, CONCERTS MAY BE OK. DISTANCE CHANGES WHEN WATCHING BIRDS. I DID FINALLY SEE A CARDINAL IN A TREE UP CLOSE. WISH I COULD FIND BINOCS THAT WORK FOR BIRD AND BUTTERFLY WATCHING IN THE YARD AND IN THE TREES, OR COULD FIQURE OUT HOW TO OPERATE THESE. THEY ARE GREAT ONCE I GET THEM FOCUSED THOUGH.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value for the price, good performance
I had my 15x70's for over a year and I like them very much. They are ideal for a quick peek at the sky if you do not have much time to set up the telescope but still want to have a look at the heavens. I use them also as spotting binos for some deep sky objects, then I aim my large scope at the target. They are very nice to handle with the rubber finish. Good light gathering ability and good resolution. I think they are an amazing value at the advertised Amazon price, which includes shipping. It takes a little bit of practice holding them steady, but you get the hang of it rather quickly. I do not particularly like the tripod adapter, and found that they vibrate when mounted on the tripod. For everything else, they are great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Value!
I rated these a 5-star even though the first pair came out of the box with a slight collimation problem. (Double images when viewing a single star, for example) I initiated a return which Amazon was extremely prompt and shipped out a replacement set. In the two day interim, one of my "astro friends" said we could make a simple adjustment to collimate the first pair. He was right. We mounted the faulty binos on a tripod at dusk and quickly reset the collimation using the little set screws on each objective. It was really a very simple fix. I tried to stop the replacement shipment but Amazon was too quick. I returned the 2nd pair. Thanks Amazon!
4-0 out of 5 stars Very heavy
These are excellent binoculars.Very easy to use.Only negative is the weight.I knew when I bought them that they weighed 3#'s.Hard to keep still while using.Strongly recommend a tri-pod.Sorry I didn't shop more and pay a little extra for a smaller binocular. ... Read more

I bought these to view sporting events, concerts, and to do look at dolphins and wildlife at the beach. They are very nice, very clear, and a nice wide view. I looked at something with a stronger zoom, but picked these because the image is more stable on something less zoom. I don't think you can beat these binoculars in this price range.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nikon Action 8x40 Binoculor is Fantastic
I just received these binoculars and can't put them down. They have great optics which give very crisp images. They focus and handle beautifully. They are fairly light at 26 ounces and was very pleased all around with their excellent performance as a great birding binocular. With BAK-4 High Index Prisms and quick central focusing and what appears to be even closer focusing distance than what they approximate you will extremely pleased with choosing the Nikon Action 8x40. Also very easy to hand hold without getting a shaky image as with much heavier binoculars. The perfect combination of power and light gathering ability. You'll absolutely love them. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great no more guesswork
I was initially very skeptical of rangefinders after using a friends and not being able to easily acquire the target.Once I decided on this model and used it I haven't got one bad thing to say about it.Target acquisition is super fast and accurate, just point at the flagstick or target needing yardage feedback and it shoots it with the correct yardage immediately.Buy this unit with no doubts that you will have purchased the best rangefinder available.I have gotten yardages from the flag at over 280 yards with it so far and I'm sure it will go further than that once I try. It gives you total confidence that you are using the right club and you will soon know exactly how far you hit each club to the yard.No more guesswork.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bushnell 1500 is a great rangefinder alternative
I considered various alternatives of rangefinders and am thrilled that I chose both this type and this model. It is easy to use, has great features and is very accurate.I primarily use just the distance feature, but for non-competitive rounds the effective distance feature taking into consideration upward or downward slope is very cool.I also like the carrying case which can be attached to a bag or pull cart and provides easy accessibility to the rangefinder.I just returned from a trip to Ireland where many of the courses have few if any distance markers. It was indespensible.

3-0 out of 5 stars Beware-this is not tournament legal
The Pinseeker Tournament Edition is the yardage pro you want to purchase. This yardage pro has slope and is therefore not legal to use for tournament play.Unfortunately Amazon does not list this in the description so I had to return it and of course they charged me shipping to return it.When I ordered it I was given free shipping, but because I returned it Amazon then charged for shipping it to me.Because Amazon failed to describe this product fully I was charged twice for shipping.Beware of purchasing anything from Amazon--I will never shop from them again!!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for the price and the capabilities
We live at the edge of a bay and do a fair amount of bird and boat watching. We've been using the binoculars for five months now and find them GREAT for that purpose. We use them constantly and the IS feature takes the annoying flutter away.We would like to get another pair for the car. Can't recommend them highly enough.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great!
These binoculars work great! The image stabilization works like a charm, and the optical quality is very sharp and clear. My only beefs are that 1) there are no lens caps for the rear lenses - this seems absurd to me, and 2) the IS button is very small and centered, so you have to hold the binocs a certain way with both hands in order to press the button.Seems that it should have had a much larger button or buttons on the sides.

5-0 out of 5 stars stable view makes binocs worth using
I go to an occasional football or other sports game, and would like to get closer to the action.Or I'd like to look at the stars, or at a bird in a tree, or to see what that stick is that is resting on my roof, or whatever. The image stabilizing thing is great. It's not a marketing hype, something that sounds nice but is so-so when using. The I/S feature really is great--it removes all the hand-holding shaking from the view, and keeps things really really focused on what you are looking at.You can get some drift, which means the thing you are looking at can gradually move out of the field of vision, cuz of your hands/arms are gradually moving away from it.But you can get it right back in.I think how this thing works is that when you click the I/S button (on top of the binocs, easy to find), there is a built-in feed back that takes part of the image and keeps it at the same spot no matter what slight movements you make--thus compensating for your shakes that no one can avoid, by slightly moving some of the prisms inside to keep the image the same, regardless of your small movements in holding the binocs. With the image kept at the same spot, your eyes can pick up more of it, see more detail (examples--moon, planets, stars)because your eye isn't chasing the image around as the binocs inevitably move around. It's not cheap to get this feature in the binocs, but these are my favorite for college football, seeing the stars, and so on.I also have their big brother, the 15x50, but those are heavier. When you press the stabilize button, you can feel a slight clunk in the unit (this is a good feature, cuz you can feel/hear it's turned on, sorta like feedback from a keyboard when you press a key, not a problem) and it does its magic. For a football game, take along extra batteries cuz you'll use the I/S button a lot, and you'll get mad if it runs out of power (due to prior use, etc.)--because you will have seen (no pun intended) how much you like the I/S feature!BTW, in a football game, you will get set on the quarterback or whoever else you are following, then click on the turn-on-I/S button, follow the play for 10 seconds, then let off the button saving the batteries. Then repeat half a minute or so later, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful
We had a bushnell that finally wore out after twenty years, and tech out paced it. I bought a pair of glasses from another vendor, and these. This is a superior set. Easy to adjust, powerful, in fact too powerful for our backyard feeders, we use the compact pair for the yard, and save this for the beach and bird walks. Bushnells are not super compact, but the compact 8 x40 model I bought is going on Ebay this week.
5-0 out of 5 stars Nice binoculars
I have bought a few binoculars in the past couple of years. And have been satisfied with only a couple. These binoculars I am very pleased with. The clarity is very good and the price is terrific.I have wasted alot of money on some not so good Bushnell binoculars. But this pair was a pleasant surprise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality, economical buy
The NatureView 8 x 42 Roof Prism Binoculars are an incredibly good pair of binoculars.I searched around and compared the specifications of several Bushnell binos and I decided on these.I couldn't be happier with my choice. The field of view (330' @ 100 yrds)is perfect for birding, making it easy to follow a bird as it flies from perch to perch. The color optics are amazing, as I've never seen the plumage so clearly before. This binocular in particular is nicely streamlined on account of the roof prisms, not bulky like the NatureView Plus 8 x 42.I highly recommend purchasing these great binoculars. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice unit
I have used several types of night vision, 3rd generation that is, but as many of us can see, 3rd generation aint cheap. I went with this particular n/v because of price, and a fellow Deputy friend of mine owns one, and said he liked his. I have only one complaint the weight, it's a little heavy, but well built. Turn on the I/R, and wham it's like turning on a spot light, nice unit, works well, and if your interested in a great little night vision unit, you can't go wrong, quality product great price. Hope this helped....

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent optics but focuser is sloppy
Purchased the 16x50 version of these Bushnell binoculars (primarily for star gazing). While the optics seem fine (for the money) the rocker style focuser is easily jarred out of position, even simply by pressing the eyepieces to your eyes when gazing upward or by trying to adjust the diopter.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not great binoculars
I was expecting a better visual field for the binoculars. They are good but not great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Does what they say it does
This thing works exactly as advertised.I use it for golf, and it does a very good job of separating the flag from other background objects, even when wind or my over-caffeinated hands make it hard to get the target centered on the flag.Even works when there is no wind and the flag is hanging straight down. This is well worth the cost adder over cheaper ones that don't work nearly as well. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent rangefinder
I use this for golf yardage when I'm in a location where the yardage is hard to determine. Very accurate. Does require a steady hand. Would not recommend more magnification than this one has as it would be very difficult to hold steady enough for a target as small as a flag.

5-0 out of 5 stars The top aid for the golfer
It is light; has 6X magnification; and easy to use. This little tool is great for any golfer. You must know the yardage before you can select the correct club. How far is it to either the top of that bunker next to the green or the flagstick?Next, you just then need to pull the club that will get you there.Fits on your belt through a loop in the safe carrying case or use the supplied clip to attached the case to your golf bag. These NEW laser rangefinders are better than ever and at a lower price than previous models. LOVE IT!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Deal!
I got a Nikon laser rangefinder for Chrisymas and it had an 8x magnification. I found this to be to powerful for golf.I could not hold it steady on the flag. The 6x magnification on the Bushnell Yardage Pro Scout was much better. Also it is very compact and stores easily in my golf cart. The price from Amazon was well below I could find anywhere else. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised.
The image is bright and sharp.Only a thin edge of blur around the outer lense, but its barely noticable or in the field of view. They're extremely easy and quick to use.The focus wheel is smooth, fast, and precise.I prefer their lite weight, but I have to plant an elbow or lean against some thing to prevent shake. The bins are smaller than I imagined. They're easy to hold and feel secure in my hands. They are cheapest in online auctions. 2/3 the cost of most web sites.I'm extremely happy with these.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better Optics Make Better Birders. These Make You Better
After hinting for some time to my fiance, I was thrilled to receive these as a Christmas gift.I've used them over the past few weeks and have been thrilled with the quality of the optics.Scrutinizing some Bohemian Waxwings from 30 feet away revealed great detail and color richness. The adjustable locking eye cups are a great feature. The hard rubber exterior is strong and offers a good grip. The only negative review I have to offer is similar to others; the lens caps are cheap and are beneath the level of these fine binoculars. For the money I challenge anyone to find a better pair.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tack sharp, lightweight and well worth owning.
I did alot of research before deciding on this pair. As an experienced photographer, optical quality was my top priority.

I ordered these binoculars for my husband's birthday. They arrived promptly and in excellent condition; well packed. We both were surprised by how powerful they are and easy to use, WOW! Very, very pleased. They are very light weight (nice for these old arthritic arms and hands). The only possible drawback is that they are not waterproof and need to be kept dry at all times, so DH will not be able to take them along on fishing trips unless he double zipper lock bags them. ... The Celestron Firstscope 114 EQ is a Newtonian reflector telescope packaged with two eyepieces and a sturdy equatorial mount. The Firstscope 114 EQ, with 114mm (4.5 inches) of aperture, provides images that are twice as bright as 80mm telescopes, and more than three times brighter than 60mm beginner scopes. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Off to a great start!
I recently purchased this scope from amazon.I read many reviews and suggestions and decided to go with the Firstscope 114 because it seemed to be the most scope I could get for the least price.I considered some cheaper models with the same features, but I'm glad I chose this one because the differences in quality would have ruined my experience. It took about 2 weeks to receive my scope from Amazon, but you can't beat free shipping! The scope was well packaged, the only casualty during shipping was a wingnut on the tripod with a broken wing.I contacted Celestron, and they immediately sent me another wingnut.Great customer service!
4-0 out of 5 stars Terrific telescope for a really pleasant price
I've had this scope for about 4 months now and I have been very pleased with it.Firstly, I received it in only three days from Amazon.Secondly, I was genuinely pleased that all components are made of an alloy or other metal, unlike a particular Meade unit, which I used that had lots of plastic screws and other parts.Even the tightening screws for the lens mounts and red-dot sight are metal on this Celestron. The aluminum tripod is quite sturdy and adjustable; good for the little guys and girls that star-gaze too.The housing tube is black aluminum and sturdy as well. The red-dot sighter works well, especially when looking at stars/planets with a high-power lens, with less eye relief. The magnification and clarity of the views are really good.I've seen the rings of Saturn and Jupiter quite clearly with this scope.I also purchased the Celestron eyepiece kit that offers additional plossy lens (varying power) and a pretty good set of filters (including a moon filter). The only down side I can think of would be that the lubricant used by the company for the rotating axis' is quite sticky if you get it on ya.For the money, you're not going to regret the buy and you'll probably be glad you went with this quality model over lesser ones, that might even cost more.Celestron has a good product with this one.Hope this helps some.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is my first telescope - so far, so good
Okay, I am new to the world of stargazing.I purchased this telescope based on recommendations here at Amazon.com.I have been completely satisfied.I am especially impressed with the clear, crisp viewing of the moon.I can see a few planets, but they are of course very small through the eyepiece.

The field of vision is too small for any useful viewing. If you already know where your object is in the dark, then you can point this device towards the object and view it in dark. But if you are searching for an object in the dark, the small field of vision makes the search useless.
