Editorial Review

The Sigma APO Teleconverter 2x EX DG for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras is a dedicated APO teleconverter that can be mounted between select lenses and the camera body to increase the focal length by the power of 2. The multi-layer coating reduces flare and ghosting, which is a common problem with digital cameras. The lens also offers maximum magnification without any variation in the minimum focusing distance. Compact and lightweight, this teleconverter can convert your lenses into longer focal-length lenses, so you don't have to do a lot of unnecessary footwork. A case for the lens is included. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars beware
do a little research and don't be fooled. Sigmas are generally a hit or miss thing for the lens quality. And worse off if you travel with the camera..seals are not at all reliable. Last but not least go ito a store and compare the drive noise on this unit to any other brand...very very noise...sorry i can not recommend them. Nikon, Tamron, Tokina...I personally prefer Nikon and Tokina...good luck

2-0 out of 5 stars Sigma 18 -125 f3.5-5.6 lens
I bought this lens to use with my Canon EOS300D.Buyers should beware of the noticeable vignetting - in my opinion this problem is not acceptable in a lens of this price. Sigma should have sorted this out before putting it on the market. On the plus side is the convenient zoom range and the compact size.I guess it depends on whether you consider these benefits outweigh the vignetting problems.Yes, it can be corrected with imaging software, but who wants to have to correct every picture that has an area of sky or other light subject matter in the corners?

4-0 out of 5 stars Terrific all-purpose digital lens, but be realistic
I bought this lens so that when I travel using my Nikon D100 I could have an all-in-one zoom that would spare me the inconvenience of constantly changing lenses.I have not regretted this purchase, as for most situations the resulting photos are quite satisfactory. However, potential buyers should be aware that any lens that is designed to "do it all" involves compromises.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality for reasonable price
Don't know what happened with the guy below, sounds like he got a lemon. You won't get a better lens in this range for the minolta without finding one of the older G lenses that costs about three times as much. The 2.8 coupled with the antishake of the minolta 5d or 7d makes for some of the best handheld low light photography available anywhere.Focus is quick, photos are crisp, zoom is smooth.

4-0 out of 5 stars Suprising quality for the price
Well-built lens. It provides excellent sharpness (after I sent my 7D in for an autofocus issue) even wide-open and has reasonably fast focusing. The zoom ring is a lot stiffer than my old Maxxum lenses, but is smooth and the barrel doesn't creep when the camera is pointed down. A fair trade. I use it as a people lens at family gatherings and wedding receptions where it's f2.8 constant maximum aperture works well with the camera's stabilization to keep flash usage to a polite minimum. I took a star off only because I wish the wide end was 24 mm instead of 28.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Happy
I have tried this lense and could not get satisfactoryresults from it. The zoom barrel is tight and don't give you nice feeling, It seems like you are using a ver cheap lense.

4-0 out of 5 stars Half and Half
I read the reviews here and found I am in agreement with them, the lens is heavy, awkward, so you really need a steady hand for it, or constantly have to use a tripod and I like to free shoot it is good practice for hand and eye dexteritym but I do like the lightness in weight of the camera when no lens' are attached.I don't find the the frame capture is well, when I compared with other digi cameras, after zooming in on a photo, I noticed that the closeup was not as good as I wanted (the framing capture included more in it, vs the other digi zoomed in more on what you only wanted). You can't really zoom the lens down too much before you get vignetting. But it is better than not having a telephoto lens, since I have found out that there are NO Other lens' (except for wide angle) available for this camera, as the main lens (body) is not removable, adapter rings cannot be used to use another lens.Do I like the KM Dimage A2, yes and no, it has a lot of bells and whistles, and I would definently tell any potential buyer to really READ their manual to understand everything.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great quality, but not a full 1.5x
I researched for several weeks before finally deciding to buy the ACT-100 for my KM Dimage A200.My old camera (Dimage Z2) has a 380mm lens (33mm equiv.) so I was really hoping to buy a telephoto converter that would give me closer to (or more than) that range (opposed to the supposed 300mm I get with the ACT-100).So with several 2x and up telephoto converters out there, why did I decide on this 1.5x one?QUALITY.I looked at sample pics and read reviews from people who had used other converters and none of them really seemed to produce the kind of quality I'm looking for (images were always blurry or had vignetting). While I'd much rather have 400mm+ zoom, if the quality is compromised, then the picture is worthless to me.So that's why I bought this converter...but now that I have it and have tried it out, what do I think?Overall, I'm very pleased. The quality is excellent (again, this was my main concern) and there is a definite increase in magnification. The lens is large and heavy, but honestly, I think this is necessary for a high-quality telephoto converter. It's heavy because it's made from metal and has 5 glass elements. And it needs to be this large in order to prevent vignetting. So why did I only give this product 4/5 stars?I don't believe the magnification is actually 1.5x.I took two pictures of a sign from the same distance away, one with the ACT-100 and one without.I then compared the two images on my computer, and increased the image taken without the ACT-100 until it was the same size as the image taken with the ACT-100.The conversion factor seemed to be about 1.45x.I know this may not seem like a huge difference, but 1.45 x 200mm = 290mm, and I was really expecting to get 300mm (as claimed).Despite the slight disappointment, I still believe that this is the best telephoto converter lens for the KM Dimage A200 and I'm very happy that I bought it because that 1.45x really does make a difference (even if it's not as much of a difference as I was hoping for).

4-0 out of 5 stars New tele extender for Minolta Camera
Pros: Screws on easily. Camera compensates and reads the lens without adjustments. Changes maximum focal length from 200 to 300 mm, 35 mm equivalent. Sharp, clear, easy to see through.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME LENS!
This lens is fast and extremely sharp. I am using it on a D200 and it is great. I am deployed in Iraq and this lens is one I can feel comfortable about walking around with. It's built like a tank. It accepts the teleconverters which makes it even better. Buy this lens from 47th St Photo. Best prices.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Macro despite limitations
I had a Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro and it was working quite well for me but I longed for a little more working distance. When Sigma came out with the 150mm f2.8 Macro, I tried researching it but couldn't find much info because it was such a new lens, I found the MTF charts on the Sigma Website and it was amazing. This lens was very close to the performance of the Sigma 180mm macro and Canon's famed 180mm f3.5 L. So I went ahead and bought it. It was a little pricy but I thought I could always return it if I didn't like it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great when only one lens makes sense
Got this lens for my wife along with a Nikon D-50 just prior to a 2 week trip to Africa.Initial impressions were that the lens was very lightweight and compact and gave an amazingly full range of wide-angle to zoom capability. On the plus side, this lense stayed on my wife's camera all the time and she got some great shots that I missed while I was fumbling to change lenses. On the bad side, I swapped cameras with her one evening and found the lens to be less than great in low light (ie required long shutter times) at even modest zoom settings and even with ISO set up to 400 on the camera.I found that shutter speeds got so slow that I could not handhold the camera without blur from lens shake (1/30 or slower) while my other Nikon with the 70-300mm 1:4.5-5.6 was still taking good shots. Also, I found that on the digital camera with its 1.5x lens multiplier that the 28mm wide angle end of the lens was not wide enough for some of those vast African landscapes.
4-0 out of 5 stars Glad I bought it !
Finally decided to buy this lens for my Canon 20D and after 1000 shots of all types I know I made the right choice for a lens I don't have to change all the time.
5-0 out of 5 stars If you buy just one lens, this is it.
When I got my dslr, I did not get the "kit" lens.I wanted immediately to be able to take both macro and zoom shots, and I didn't have money for more than one good quality lens.So I researched and read reviews online and when I bought my new camera, I got the Tamron 28-300. I made a great choice. If you buy just one lens; this lens is it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Needed Accessory?
Unlike the wide-angle lens, the usefulness of the tele converter lens is limited. For example, unless the camera is at max focal length, the lens cuts into the viewing area and subsequently ruins the picture. This is really only good for fixed zoom situations.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad But...
Okay you bought a DSC-V3 or have a V1 which translates into ownership of a great camera to begin with, so why is it we are always trying to fix things that aren't broken!? Hey- I'm guilty here too, so let me tell you what to expect from this lense. First off the V3 is a pretty potent camera at just a 4x optical zoom, so the thought of upping that to 5x plus was very attractive indeed, and yes the lense does extend the optical zoom to 5x but... (and its a big one)you must remember the V3 is a "fixed lense" camera wich means that by nature anything that you stick on the front of it weather made by Sony, Konica, or general foods will be alien to the operation and systems of the camera. NO EXCEPTIONS! So the result is that all your zoom capability from 1x upto 3 or 3.5x will be useless because your shot will be framed in a circle! A nice vignette effect to be sure but not what you'd want in your normal range shots trust me.That said, the lense does indeed give you that extra push, just be aware that you will lose all your closer ranges.I only gave the lense 3 stars for the following reasons, 1. The conversion lense system does not intergrate with the V3 lense hood, in other words to use this or the wide angle lense along with the hood your gonna be changing alot of stuff around, this is a pain in the butt to be sure, the lense hood adapter came with threads on the inside so I was under the impression that the lenses could be affixed to it. Not the case. 2. Not a Ziess lense. while the quality seems very good and the construction is excellent you should be aware that it is nowhere near the quality of the lense on the camera. That is surprising considering Sony's asking price of $145.99, I wouldn't have even bothered with this lense if not for Amazons price. 3. vignette hell!! Be aware that you will lose all picture range from about 1x to 3.5x, this lense is meant for distant objects ONLY! Oh and if you thought about maybe using the lense with the macro setting? Forget it. won't work. this lense ain't got a thing to do with flexability!! If all these things are workable with you (as they are for me, I've been using Sony products professionally and personally for 5 years) then this is a great extra for the V3.But then again I'm willing to take the time to change around lenses etc. to get the shots I want, and you might not be. The lense does what it was meant to do, by getting you 1.7x closer than you could get before. but thats all and I do mean thats ALL!I also bought the wide angle lense for the V3 so check for my review on that as well.I hope this helps, thanks for your time! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars DOESN"T WORK WITH ALL COOLPIX CAMERAS
WARNING: The description above leads you to believe that this slide copy adapter works with all Nikon Coolpix cameras, although some will need an adapter ring. THIS IS NOT TRUE.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fits the job
The slide adapter is exactly right for digitizing slides and film strips using the E995 camera. It just screws on the lens and you use the camera macro to take the pictures. You must use an external light source (not included).I prefer sunlight. The front of the adapter has a light diffuser which allows you to use any available light source.
4-0 out of 5 stars Love it, but...
I love this, but don't expect the same results you would get with a top of the line film scanner. You'll have to work a little harder yourself to get the light right. It works great with a light table, or overcast daylight. Sunlight works for dark negatives or slides. Just remember, the color of the light you use will make a difference in the copy. If you use this outside point the lens straight up toward the sky (away from the sun), find a white wall, or hang a white sheet, paper, or card to aim at, and be aware of where your shadow is falling, otherwise you may get some unwanted shadowy background, or muddied color in the copy. I use this with a Coolpix 950 and have had spectacular results with black and white copy negs and good results with both color negs and slides. ... Read more
