Great Lens
So far I have really enjoyed this lens. Great wide views. There is only 1 problem. I use this with a Canon A95 digital camera. I need a adapter to use lenses on the camera, I have this. If I use that wide angle lense right on the end of the adapter I get good images but the outside edges are out of focus. If using the same setup, you can purchase an extender ring that brings everything into focus. This might and probably will be different with different cameras.

I use this wide-angle lens with a Sony Mavica MVC-CD200. It greatly expands the field of vision with a minimal amount of distortion. (Straight lines near the edge of the image are slightly bowed. This isn't noticeable when imaging landscapes or large groups of people.) Focus stays sharp throughout the range of the zoom lens. I use this camera to document my work as an electrical contractor and the expanded field of vision makes it much easier to photograph an entire kitchen or the interior of a small bathroom. This product would be very helpful to realtors & the like. I've found it works just as well as the larger and much more expensive Sony wide angle lens. You cannot zoom with the Sony lens, and you must make sure you put the camera in macro mode or your pictures will be severely out of focus. The lens is 3" in diameter and partially blocks the pop-up flash on my Mavica. This would be a problem with any wide angle lens and can be resolved by using an optional flash. I highly recommend this product.

FOCUSING PROBLEMS?
I have used this lens on a Sony W-7 and have found the centers of the photos to be sharp and the edges of the photos to be out of focus. It might be a good lens but not for the W-7? I use all the Sony lenses on this same camera without any problems. ... Read more

The Standard-Bearer for Inexpensive Lenses
This should be the standard by which all EOS lenses are judged - and in particular, the inexpensive ones. The standard in picture quality, that is. Sharp as a tack all the way down to 1.8, the pictures it can produce are nothing less than amazing. If it's your first EF lens, you'll be hooked. If you have the kit lens, this should be your next purchase.
Stunning sharpness..sometimes cause of worry..
I tried this lens at f/1.8 in different lighting with and without flash. Results are just marvelous. Portraits are nice with pleasant bookeh..

It's pretty obvious that the lens could have been built better, but for the price, accept no substitution for pics that are so clear and very sharp. The lens isn't that loud even if I compare them to my other 2 USM lenses.

I read the hoopla - now I own the thaiwan version
Awesome is the only word I use to describe the exhilaration of a super fun experiance. After reading all the reviews I could find I ordered one from Cameta Camera direct to make sure it was in stock. I quoted the price on Amazon at the time (Friday the 13th)to the Cameta salesman. $899.00 I forgot to ask if it was from Thaiwan. It arrived in five days! It was from Thaiwan! uhg. I had just thrown out my back on Monday but that didn't stop me from trying it out an hour before sunset. Awesome. Absolutely worked flawlessly. Pictures were sharp and clean, great exposure on a D-50. Don't wait; the price went up twice since I bought it.
Bait and Switch
I ordered my 18-200MM VR lens back in June from Amazon, at the time I was told it would be late June delivery. It was pushed back at least three times. This morning I checked and it still showed delivery 10/20/2006. But while I was reading reviews on the lens and Amazon's horrid customer service it updated me that is would now be December. But I can buy it from Cameta camera for $200.00 more than what I ordered it for in June, $799.00 is Nikon suggested list price.
Shameful dirty tricks will harm Amazon's reputation
I've really been a fan of Amazon and have wanted to believe that they were above dirty tricks, but I can't help but think that what they just did was slimmy. I've been waiting almost 2 months for the Nikon 18-200mm and a few days ago the system said it would ship the 18th of Oct. I didn't see the promised email so I checked and found that now they need a confirmation from me in one day or the order will be canceled. NO email telling me. If I hadn't been diligent my 2 month wait on the list would have been for nothing. Of course then I could get it in stock (apparently) at nearly a thousand dollars even though I already waited 2 months after purchasing it for ~$775. Shame. ... Read more

The best lens cleaning system I've come across
Lens pens don't do a perfect job, but they do a better job than anything thing else I have found.It is a "must have" product for anyone with a camera!And the Nikon lens pen has worked well for me.

The color is a nice match for the S3
The black color of the adapter and hood are a nice match for the gunmetal finish of the S3. The fit is good and they do what they are supposed to.
Works well
I purchased this for my S2 IS instead of a third-party adapter.The only issue I have is that it's black instead of silver (doesn't match the camera).I also had to make sure I purchased the correct camera bag to hold the camera with the lens adapter attached.

Does What it's Supposed to...
You need to remove a ring from the front of the lens to install this. Don't lose the ring. You won't always want this on the camera. The adapter does not hook to the lens. It hooks to the camera and the lense moves inside it. As a result it's longer than the lens and a bit bulky. A standard case will not fit over it. This unit is best when you intend to keep the camera in a camera/gadget bag. It holds lens adapters and filters nicely. If you intend to leave the adapter on the camera, get a 58mm lens cap. The standard one won't fit. By the way, you may want to forgo the wide angle adapter. The camera software does a great job of photo stitching. you can get the equivilent of wide angle without the distortion. ... Read more

Never take it off
This is a great lens that can be used for almost everything.It is great if you only want to take one lens with you.Pictures are very sharp and the color is good.

Have been shooting with tis lens for about 5 months
This is the first IS lens that I've owned. I had trouble justifying the extra expense but am now quite pleased that I took the step up.
Excellent Walk-About Lens
I originally purchased a 30D with the low-end kit lens - to me the pricing didn't really make sense to get either the body or the higher-end IS kit lens. I was looking for a good all-purpose zoom with full-size sensor covereage in case I move up the Canon ranks to a new pro-level model in the future.
