5-0 out of 5 stars Best lens from Nikon
If I can only have one lens it will be this Nikon 60mm f/2.8 macro. Actually I hardly remove it from my D50.I had to buy a D200 for birds photography because the 60mm was 'glued' to the D50. I use it for every thing from portrait to small insects. This lens is equal to 90mm 35mm equivalent, in the film days ~90-100 mm macro lens were the most popular. With digital many people had read the old books and think experts are using 100 mm macro lenses and dare not buy this 60mm and posted to every webs that 60 mm is too short for small insects. I took thousands of insect shots with this lens and will never use any other lens. It is very sharp, maybe the sharpest lens Nikon ever made.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great everyday lens
I use this lens to photograph flowers but I also use this lens as one of my main portraits lenses it is incredibly sharp and focuses extremely close, buy this lens and you will find you will be using it for more then a macro! Some images I have taken with this are at http://www.wburnett.com

5-0 out of 5 stars Used on C-770
Purchased to use with some Tiffen Filters and a Telephoto Lens. The adapter worked fine.I am going to try to find a 55mm lens cap so that I can keep the adapter on at all times instead of removing it each time I store the camera so that I can use the lens cap that came with the camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fine For Use With My C-730!
I use this with my Olympus C-730. There is nothing wrong with it. It does what it was designed to do. It gives you a 55mm diameter mounting thread for using optional wide-angle, telephoto and macro lenses with your Olympus camera(s). These are the cameras that it can be used with: C-700, C-720, C-730, C-740, C-750, C-765 and the C-770. Five stars means all is well with it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Have to disagree with Capt. Jack...
I've owned a PowerShot G5 for better than three years now, and while I've never used any of the lens accessories, I couldn't be happier with it.I also have an EOS A2 and it met all of my needs for a film camera.I thought I would be giving up a lot when I got the G5 to go digital, but so far, I haven't been disappointed. In fact, I've been surprised with how good the G5 is; since I bought my G5 I haven't even once picked up my A2, let alone actually used it.The G5 does everything I need it to do.The one and only drawback of it compared to my A2 is that it took me a little while to get used to the longer latency between shots; with my A2 I got used to having lighting fast latency (the A2's built in powerwinder goes at 6 fps) so it was a bit of an adjustment, but I'm not a sports photographer, so I've learned to live with it.
1-0 out of 5 stars horrible vignetting
I bought this lens for my Canon PowerShot G5, and because it requires the use of a long adapter, not only does it cause terrible vignetting (that circle the other poster thought was cool, but which is actually a design flaw) unless you zoom most of the way, it blocks the built-in flash. I have owned four Canon cameras over the past 15 years, and the G5 and everything related to it has been a huge disappointment. (I would have bought the digital Rebel when it first came out so I could use my EOS lenses, but it didn't allow flash exposure compensation (insane for a $1000 camera body).)
5-0 out of 5 stars What it really does
let me explain what this really does because i had to buy it to understand.MAybe that is me :)ok what this does is basically "pull" you back into the camera more.so that when you are taking a picture you can actually see the outlining of the lens, making it a circle picture.not what i was expecting but its interesting i am new to "real" photography so i am not sure if this is usefull or a really good thing but i just wanted to make it clear what it really does so you do not have to spend the money to buy it :) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome versatility, only minor drawbacks
Basically, this lens is AWESOME for most situations. It has true macro functions (wow!), and a zoom from slightly wide-angle all the way to 300mm!What more could you ask for? It's probably the perfect starter lens for your Canon, certainly it blows the doors off any kit lens.Images are really crisp, color is excellent. The lens is lightweight, and the wide range of magnification make it suitable for almost every situation.

Features

  • Since the lens is designed exclusively for digital SLR photography, it provides high image quality in terms of resolution, contrast and flatness of image field
  • It employs a new optical system designed to confine the changing angles of incidences of light rays reaching the imager within a certain scope over the entire image field from the center to the periphery, by considering the effects of variances due to zooming
  • Peripheral light fall-off is minimized when compared with that of conventional lenses for film cameras so that images are uniformly bright from the center to the periphery
  • Complicated mechanisms are built in the compact body thanks to new mechanical artifices. The lens is a multi-purpose zoom lens, yet excellent portability and ease of use are assured. A number of invisible engineering innovations required to downsize the lens, produce high precision parts and increase durability are incorporated in the new AF18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) MACRO since manufacturing this type of zoom lens with such complicated mechanisms inside was almost impossib
  • The Zoom Lock prevents unwanted barrel extension when carrying the lens/camera combination

3-0 out of 5 stars Pending arrival of lens -- comments regarding focusing problems
(Initial entry 2006.09.12)
3-0 out of 5 stars get what you pay for
I purchased this lens as a lightweight alternative to carrying around several different lenses when traveling. The zoom range is fantastic; and I thought I could live with some of the distortion and softness expected from a super-range zoom as a compromise for the convenience. However, I was very dissapointed with the performance of the lens otherwise. The autofocus on the lens is slow and has a difficult time with focus lock in even normal lighting, and in low light situations - forget it.Considering the price, I could evenbe ok with this, since I am fairly comfortable with manual focus, however, after only about 2 weeks of use with this lens my camera sometimes will flash "00" for the aperture setting will not shoot- an indication that the electrical connections on the lens are not making good contact.Re-mounting the lens solves the problem for short time and it re-appears. I'm hoping that my lens was just a defective copy.Overall, I would say if you are used to the "kit" lens, then this might be an inexpensive way to add a nice zoom range, however, if you're used to shooting with the canon USM lenses, you will be dissapointed.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good choice for All-in-One lens for digital SLR
This is a very good choice for anyone shooting Canon Digital Rebels or 20D/30D series cameras, and wanting an all-in-one design that small and light weight.

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect!
This wide angle lens is excellent for landscape and architecture.Yes it is less than perfect but unless you're going for medium or large format photography it can't get much better than this lens at this zoom range.Canon 10-22 mm has less distortion and lower price but unfortunately it doesn't fit in my cameras.
1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Built
I love Nikon lens but this one is a crack in Nikons armour! This is a poorly built plastic lens!, I would only buy this lens if I were a professional and it could be used as a write off on my taxes, I have compared the pic from this lens with the Tokina 12-24 and only blown up to 100 percent can you notice a difference and it is very small! Buy the Tokina it is a well built lens with great optics!

5-0 out of 5 stars Nikon 12-24mm--Just what I expected
I paired this lens up with the Nikon D200 with a Nikon L37c filter and pictures produced are good with balanced color and without any significant distortion. I thought that I would not be able to get used to using a G type lens but I have been able to adapt quite well. Overall, I would recommend this lens although I will miss my old, reliable Nikon 20mm f2.8 prime lens when attached to the N90s body. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great lens
If u r like me that likes to take pictures of the places visited and like to capture the atmosphere of the place this lens will do. The Pictures are not perfect but they are good enough.

3-0 out of 5 stars A wider, but not painless, view for Canon G-series
As a rule, I'm not a big fan of screw-in auxillary lenses for cameras - due to their many compromises - but sometimes the standard lens on the Canon G5 (or G3 or G6) doesn't have the wide angle scope that's called for. Other brand converters made for the Canon G may be smaller, but are prone to vignetting (image darkening in picture corners) and more obvious sharpness fall-off. This Canon lens attachment is sharp, gives good coverage and little fall-off. It's angle of view is somewhere between 24 and 28mm compared to standard the 35mm film format, and often it's just wide enough to do the trick.

5-0 out of 5 stars Canon EF 50mm f/2.5
I bought this lens to go with my Canon Digital Rebel XT.I absolutely love this lens.I got it to try some insect and other macro shots and it has served this purpose very well. With some practice this lens will produce fantastic macros with some great bokeh to boot.
5-0 out of 5 stars My experience with this lens
I am THRILLED with this lens's capabilities and the pictures it does.I test shot a corner of a window to determine if it would be good for my insect shots that I like so well.
4-0 out of 5 stars A fine lens, but not one without its limitations
I purchased this lens back in March of 2005 to shoot static "Warhammer models" with my 10D.I found that longer lenses such as the Sigma 105mm, the Canon EF 100mm, and the Tamron SP Autofocus 90mm all were "too long" with the 10D's 1.6 focal crop and would result in requiring me to use a lot more physical space that what I had room for to get the shot.

In my opinion this is one of the best lens Nikon has made. Excellent build quality, rugged, good quality feel. This lens stays on my D200 body. Very fast & sharp. Will even give an amateur great professional results.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best lens you can buy for a Nikon DSLR
I just got one of these. I have to say it is the best lens and focal length you can buy for a Nikon DSLR like the D70/D200/D2X etc. It's not too big and built extremely well. It replaced my Nikon 18-70mm zoom. I love the f/2.8 aperture. Great for blurred backgrounds. You can't go wrong with this lens. Forget about the older Nikon 28-70mm f/2.8.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Nikons best lenses

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful Within Limits
Do not expect this to replace the zoom from your camera. It will not do that nor was it intended to do so. What it does do is optically bring things a little bit closer. This is certainly preferably to using the digital zoom that comes with so many cameras.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb Canon Portrait Lens Gets Better
The Canon EF 85mm f1.2L lens has earned ample praise from photographers and critics alike as one of the finest portrait (medium telephoto) lenses available. It is the only one currently produced with a maxium aperture of f1.2 (About a decade ago Carl Zeiss introduced a special, limited edition 85mm f1.2 Planar for its Contax manual focus 35mm SLR system; this lens is alleged to be optically superior to Canon's.). This new improved version of the 85mm f1.2 can autofocus 1.8x faster than its predecessor, via a USM motor for relatively whisper-quiet operation. A fine optic for working under low-light conditions, the lens is now better due to its improved optical design and faster autofocusing. Without question it has been one of the finest L series Canon lenses available; these new improvements will only enhance its reputation. If I owned Canon equipment and had to choose between the Canon EF 85mm f1.2L II USM lens or its illustrious predecessor, then without question I would be willing to acquire this fine new lens. ... I am another one of the customers that is having trouble with this lens and the autofocus on a Digital Rebel XT.It locks focus less than 50% of the time.My other Canon lenses don't have this problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Focus problem not found
I just purchased the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 to use on my Canon 20D and XT 350. I shot several low light close ups and found it is spot on for focus.

3-0 out of 5 stars More Focusing Problems
I bought this lens for my rebel xt for low-light indoor situations, but soon discovered that it was not focusing correctly at wide apertures. I thought it might be a depth of field issue or that somehow I was making the mistake with the camera. I even adjusted the AF to focus only on the center point and continued getting fuzzy pictures.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful addition to my S5200
Gives the camera a whole new selection of images at all tele settings. Excellent macro addition as well. It looks cool too.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent accessory
I am really enthusiastic about this lens because it is an excellent accessory for my camera at a very convenient price.I add it and use it for landscapes, mountain views, nature images and such, and also for group pictures in family photos. It does what is supposed to do: it increases the field of view while keeping the whole image very clear, and in this way the pictures appear more natural -- a whole view and not a narrow frame -- with perspective and deepness also, quite similar it seems to me to what I see with my own eyes. A very useful additional tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good!
I just did a side by side comparison of landscape images between this lens and a canon 24-105L with a Digital Rebel XT.To my surprise there isn't much difference in image quality when you match the aperture and focal lengths. The Canon L series lens is faster at all focal lengths and has image stabilization, is sealed and comes with a lens hood, but costs about three times as much. The Sigma lens is slower to focus and noisier, but weighs quite a bit less and has almost twice the maximum focal length and is wider as well. So, if you are using a cropped image camera and have plenty of light, this lens ought to give good performance. If I had to choose between the two, I'd definitely take the Sigma for walking around or daylight landscape.

5-0 out of 5 stars My choice for traveling
I got this lens a day before taking off for an eight day trip, and shot over 1800 photos with it.Though not the fastest lens out there, it did everything I wanted it to, both in the wide angle and the telephoto.I think I put it through a pretty thorough test over that week, and have these comments:
5-0 out of 5 stars Great lense for the money
I was looking at going with the canon L series lenses in this range, and found a comparative site with example photos - http://www.slo-foto.net/reviews-56-page1.html comparing them. Given the difference in price, I figured had nothing to lose going with this lense - even though it doesn't have any image stabilization. The lense works well with the Canon Digital Rebel, and easy enough that my wife took the SLR to Kenya with her with only this lense (not my entire bag of tricks) - her first time using the SLR and the photos look excellent. Great lense for the money. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars RemoveLens Adaptor: before using the flash
I found out by trial and error that you must remove the adaptor to get a satisfactory result with the flash. While the lens adaptor doesn't seem to impede the flash it does impede the sensors (exposure meter) to set the brightness on the reflected image.

1-0 out of 5 stars Comments on KODAK Lens Adapter for DX6490
I received the lens adapter but there was no info on how to use it. It screws in over the regular ZOOM lens but offers absolutely nothing to the use of the KODAK DX6490. I suspect there are additional filters or other accessories that might make the adapter useful and hope to find out what they may be in the near future. The lens adapter by itself, doesn't seem to add anything to the use of the camera without something else ???
4-0 out of 5 stars Problem using with built in flash
This adapter works well in natural light settings but doesn't work when using the built in flash on the camera. There's a design flaw that causes underexposed pics when using the flash. It is a great add on for using filters and protecting the lens otherwise. ... Read more
