1-0 out of 5 stars cannot replace a scratched lens on HD1A - ever
Sorry Amazon this HD1A thing goes back.I called your customer support, and apparently Sanyo was too cheap to include threads to allow the lens to be replaced on the HD1A (and no threads for an optional protective UV lens).NOBODY should buy a camcorder which doesn't allow this basic, very basic attribute.Even my Sony camcorder from 4 years ago has threads to screw on a lens.I usually don't review things on Amazon - but this really is an extremely poor oversight.Sorry Sanyo - for paying this price for a camcorder - even a tapeless HD one - I expect to be able to replace my lensif they get scratched - and with my family's use - they often do after a year or two.I can't spend $600 for a 1 or 2 year camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent camera
the image quality in a HDTV monitor is great, an additional battery is a good idea. With the joystick control is difficult to press without errors, anyway, easy to operate, light and very easy to pass from hdtv quality to tv quality; the price-quality relation is very good.

5-0 out of 5 stars A FUN HD!
As a previous owner of both the original HD1 and the older C5, the HD1a was an easy pick for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars IT'S THE SAME ONE-TIME USE CAMCORDER THAT SELLS AT CVS
I always felt that Pure Digital would make a permanent camcorder like the single-use camcorder that they supply to CVS and Rite-Aid, selling for $29.95.So don't buy the single-use camcorder version because you won't get the camcorder back. The single-use one has only 20 minutes recording time. Buy this camcorderfor $98.00 and it will pay for itself.Considering the low price, this little camcorder is an excellent buy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good
I like the small size and weight of the product. Its simplicity makes it something that I am beginning to carry around with me to "see what happens".I am thinking abt making a short film using it.The only suggestions I have is that there should be a small bit of documentation in the package that explains that the software to export the files and play them on a PC or Mac are stored in the camera and that there is a special driver that needs to be installed to use with other software like Adobe Premier Pro.Other than that I have been satisified.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple is Better
The Pure Digital Point and Shoot digital camcorder is the easiest camera I've used since the old days of Kodak box cameras. Results are excellent and the camera is virtually foolproof. Even my wife, who is technologically challenged, has made excellent vidoes with this compact jewel. We are looking forward to using it on an Alaska cruise in September. The only drawback, so far, is the warning not to use rechargeable batteries. It seems the same AA batteries I use in my digital still camera should function just as well in this camcorder. I would also like to be able to insert a larger capacity chip for more than 30 minutes recording time. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great value and good performance
I've been using a Sony Cybershot 2.1 Megapixel for the past few years and except for the BATTERY DRAIN I've been very pleased with it as I am only interested in my camera for snap shots.I bought my DXG-301 (New) off ebay for $76 delivered and they even threw in a 128 MB SD Card!FIRST of all, I read the owners manual (many don't seem to) and then spent an hour "playing" with the Still picture functions (not interested in video). What was I looking for in a digital camera?
3-0 out of 5 stars Fairly Satisfied
I recieved this camera as a Christmas gift about two years ago.I had asked for a digital camera, but did not expect to get a video camera.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great video - lousy sound
Buy the Xacti-C40 for quick, convenient web-cast quality video. This camera is great for making 640 x 480 videos but it is no substitute for a conventional DV camera in terms of image quality.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good camera - wouldn't recommend it for beginners
Starting with the bad news...I purchased the Xacti c40 after being frustrated with my old camera's 2.2x optical zoom. The Xacti has 5.8x optical zoom which was quite the relief, however, many of the pictures (taken zoomed in a little or not zoomed in at all) became just as blurry. This is one current frustration of mine.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Camera
I originally bought the Samsung ultra compact and regreted it the moment it arrived. I returned it and ordered this feeling very weary. Much to my surprise this camera is awesome, great pics and good video. Highly recommend this camera. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible sound quality
This camcorder has an excellent form factor and conveniently transfers clips to PC via USB. However, the camera picks up the sound of its own zoom and auto-focus, which makes the video unacceptable in my opinion. The clicking and whirring is louder than the level of normal conversation.
1-0 out of 5 stars Could have been perfect
In theory, this camera is perfect. Fits into your pocket. Video quality is definately good considering it records in the compressed format of MPEG-4. Pictures are good if you know how to finesse it. Perfect all around anytime camrea, right?
5-0 out of 5 stars great for travel, not for domestic use
this summer i was to travel to the middle east and attend a wedding . the last thing i wanted was to hall around an ostentatious camera that would break my back as well as be a problem at check points and border crossings.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not Buy.Very Big mistake!!
This camera has major problems.Do your research.Go to any digital camera forums and you will see tons of post ofthe "black Screen".After using our camera about 5 times the screen became black.Apparently had to do with defective lens housing or something.Sent it to their customer care service.Took 1 month to get back.3 days later black screen is back.Sanyo is doing everything they can to prevent me from getting money back or get new camera. They just want me to keep sending to customer. Care. Sanyo has a very defective product and they do not want to admit their mistake and replace the defective cameras.See for yourself. Go to the forums and see what others have been saying.Don't make the mistake I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars The other reviews are far to particular...this is a great camera for anyway
After reading alot of the reviews on here and other places, everyone gave it a ho-hum rating.I disagree, as with other things you have to take these with a grain of salt.
1-0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy
I have the same problem of LCD black out within aweek I bought it. I managed to change the new set but the same problem occured again within 2 days. It is the design fault. Remember don't waste your money until Sanyo finds a solution. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars No bargain at any price
I got it on sale for $88.00 thinking it would be a great bargain at that price. I feel I was ripped off. The video quality is ghastly when given enough light, and absolutely unusable without. The same goes for the pictures. Even at highest quality - and a lot of image enhancements, the results are mediocre. The audio portion of the video had a very noticeable hum, which I was able to remove with my audio editing software. Otherwise, the audio recording and playback were "acceptable," at best. This device is useful only as an audio recorder/MP3 player, and is not really a bargain.

3-0 out of 5 stars Some things you ought to know.
Pros:
4-0 out of 5 stars Only had this 2 hrs now....
...so you're not gonna get "down-in-the-mud" information - but I've been waiting for this thing for awhile now and I'm excited to tell you what I've learned so far. First off, the camera is very "cheap" feeling - all plastic - and extremely light! Not that that is a bad thing - in fact, its size and weight is one of the reasons I ordered this. I put in my Sandisk 512MB card and it worked perfect. I took a few mins to go through the menu/setup - which is very straight forward - you can follow right along on the LCD screen for your information and its all spelled out. Once I had it set up, I took a few pics at the 2nd highest resolution - which was "4M" (according to the camera screen) - the flash went off and it took the picture - then the little red light on the camera continued to flash quickly for about 30 seconds - I guess its writing it to the mem card??? I'll have to check that one out... maybe the flash wasn't ready???Don't really know. But I took the mem card out of the camera and put it in my computer to look at the quality - and it looked great!Just as good as my FujiFilm 3.1M camera. Then I tried to do some video - the room is kinda dark - and the camera really doesn't handle the darkness too well... but that does not surprise me - a few reviews I read on other sites said the same thing. But - with the lights on - at night - inside - it did okay. Thats all I have for now - I will write more when I spend more time with this... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for what it's made for.
I've been using this camera for the last few months, and I absolutely love it. But part of the reason that I love it is because i'm such a huge electronics nut, and i've never seen anything like this before. It's really tiny and a blast to shoot video with! (I didn't buy it for the digital camera aspect of it, and I rarely take snapshots with it)
4-0 out of 5 stars Compact and Simple
If you want a movie camera with all the different features such as fading and a big zoom range then this probably isn't your option. But if you want a compact option that you can carry in your pocket and that does a pretty good job for family videos then this is a fine choice.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
This Fisher FVDC1 CameraCorder is one more gadget in a long line that I've aquired over the last 25 years and it's just as cool as that Tandy PC-6 two-language programmable pocket computer from the mid-1980's!

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice gadget - horrible software support.
The unit itself is well designed. The quality of video is fair, at least for such a compact unit. Photos are near worthless due to horrible quality. My cell phone has far superior images.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Multi-Tasking Product
The Panasonic D-snap, model SV-AV50, is a great product. The D-snap can be used for many different tasks. It is a digital camera, camcorder, mp3 player, and voice recorder. The D-snap is small and portable. The D-snap is so small that it can fit into your pocket easily. The Panasonic D-snap is easy to recharge the batteries.
1-0 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor ('Buyer Beware')
This camera is a piece of crap.

1-0 out of 5 stars If I could, Zero stars!! - DVR 310 is this the worst buy ever???
I bought this cheap and nasty "thing" and was utterly speechless to test this out before xmas, and the alkaline batteries (supplied) drained within a minute! (eh?) yes folks - it cannot do what it is upposed to do!. Avoid this at all costs unless you like hassle and losing money, by buying a proper product. Vivitar must be getting hard up. I used to use Vivitar lenses in my SLR (excellent quality) and flashguns (again excellent!). So imagine the suprise in store with this lump of you know what!.
1-0 out of 5 stars Vivitar DVR-310 is a waste of your money!!!
I bought this camera, my first video and digital camera, in the hopes of taking wonderful movies of my honeymoon & my new stepson and I feel cheated.I could have taken my money and thrown it out the window. The LCD screen doesn't let enough light in to see when you try to take the picture. And the video camera?Even worse. It's for outdoor use only unless you have florescent lighting in your house. It's impossible to take a good picture. You have to try and line it up 5 times to get it right and by that time you've totally drained the 2 AA batteries that it runs on.I called Vivitar and they wouldn't even hear of refunding me my money despite the fact that I'm so unhappy so if anyone has any idea what I should do with a camera that I don't want, please post it here cause at this point it's a paperweight.Don't waste your money on it like I did. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners.....
I got this for my birthday a while ago, and is my first of a couple of digital cameras that i like to use regularly. most other cameras only take aroung 8 to 15 mins of video with a high memory card but this one takes alot more. with a 512 mg SD card you can take over 1 hour of video and hundreds of pictures on high resolution. the "mp3 player" is a little low rate but its ok. and i never really used the voice recorder, but when i did test it it sounded ok except for a low static sound in the backround. if you do get it i suggest getting an extra battery, and at least a 256 mg card. Most of the problems that occur can be fixed with the manual, and if you have a dot on your screen that doesnt change its alright because it wont come out in the picture. 2 megapixels is a little on the grainy side, but you can print regular sized pictures without any of the grainy effect. Overall it is a very handy and useful camera for everyday use and catching those spur of the moment things.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!
This is very poorly designed product, extremely user-unfriendly.The PC connection has to be snapped so tight till it almost breaks to make a connection.Buttons are very small.I have tiny fingers but still have trouble setting to the right mode and if you are not careful, you could be digital video-recording which takes all the memory in 1 minute instead of taking the pictures. The pics are very poor quality and DARK!!!DO NOT BUY this product, just buy a real digital camera or buy a real digital video recorder.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice little product
I recently bought this on sale (very good price I might add) and am going to be sending in for the rebate. For what I paid it is a great little product. It's nice to stick in your purse or bag and you have everything at your fingertips - voice recorder, camera, video and music.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent camera...depending on what you want
You get what you pay for but this is a pretty amazing little camera if you just want something inexpensive. I should point out that the highest quality photo setting takes about 5 seconds which can be irritating if you're in a hurry. I shoot homemade movies with this camera and edit them with Windows Movie Maker. The 30 fps is certainly not the best but it'll do for now. It's also perfect for sneaking into concerts with since it's so small. It takes gorgeous pictures outside in the right setting. The amount of features it has makes it worth it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mustek Adventure DV3 NOT Mac Compatible
I bought this camera for a birthday gift.Since no one has this in a store, one really has to trust the advertising. It is a solid little camera, really, but don't be fooled by the MPEG-4 advertising. It will not be compatible with either Quicktime or iMovie on a Mac.It saves files as a .asf, which you will need a video converter to convert to use on a Mac.You might get lucky on a PC, but even then the files were compressed using a weird "codec" and there was additional software plug-ins needed. If you are not a tech geek, avoid this camera.

4-0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive but not cheap
I wanted pics, video, audio, etc all-in-one for a little money. Amazingly, my DV3 does this for me. The video quality is low but good enough. I'm not SPielberg. You can adjust the pic resolution which is nice. You can store a variety of media at the same time. You can shoot video then snap some pics then go back to video. You can review all the media before you get back to your computer.

4-0 out of 5 stars This camera is perfect for what it's designed to do
The fact that this records files with an .mod suffix is irrelevant. When you rename them as .mpg files they are fine. Actually, Premiere Elements 2.0 doesn't even require you to rename them, it deals with .mod files just fine.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not Recommended
I own this this camera since February 2004. It is very well built, lightand handy, fits in any pocket.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great take anywhere Camcorder
The comment from reviewer "Xdeth" about using Ulead editing software is completely wrong.I've been using Ulead VideoStudio 8 to edit SV100 videos for over a year.Yes, as many others have stated, the ".mod" files need to be renamed to ".mpg" to use Ulead and much other software.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad as a still cam or video recorder
I bought this device in July of 2005 and I must say I was impressed with the picture quality and I like fact you can change the megapixel range from 2 all the way up to 6MP.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Cam.
I have just graduated and recieved this camera as a graduation present.I loved it because I am going to college and this thing is small enough to stick in oyur pocket and carry around.I had one problem with it though. The battery wouldn't charge up all the way it didn't even charge halfway.I sent an email to macys and I answered a couple question and I was able to get it exchanged for a new way.Now thats good service.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great multi-function device
My family absolutely loves this product. My wife likes to carry to use it as a digital camcorder. It is really great! Before, in order to import camcorder shots to our PC, we needed to use our DV Camcorder and import video through firewire. A terrible hassle. With this device, everything is so easy! My wife just use the camera, remove the memory card and plug it in her laptop. No need to edit or extract video like I did before with DV camcorders.

1-0 out of 5 stars to small
it's just to small. good video and small camera do not go hand in hand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Please be accurate with you information on the GZ-MC200
This is a great camcorder. Ray Price is incorrect on the 4 gig limit as I am running a high speed 8 gig cf card and it works fine. I get 2 hours 9 minutes out of the card on ultra fine and about 30% less battery drain than the micro drive. I really like this camcorder.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent! More than pleased... and still just as good as the newer, more expensive larger-capacity JVC models.
Of course you've already read the con's about low light performance, but you can fix this by setting the "M" mode (manual)to "Cloudy" and selecting 1/30-1/60th shutter speed. I use 1/30th - and it's works like a charm.

19. Gateway DVS20 MPEG4 Pocket Multi-Cam

Average Customer Review: 3.0 out of 5 stars

Editorial Review

Not a full-fledged camcorder, and yet very much more than a toy, the Gateway DVS20 MPEG4 Pocket Multi-Cam is one of a new generation of "convergence" devices that take both still images and tapeless digital video. In a head-to-head contest with a full-featured tapeless camcorder--something from Panasonic D-Snap's line, for example--it may not come out all that well, but at this price range a more fair comparison would be with an entry-level digital still camera. Seen in this light, the DVS20 does very well indeed. In fact, I now find myself favoring my Gateway over my everyday digital camera, a low end Olympus. Read more

  • Tapeless MPEG-4 video format

5-0 out of 5 stars wow what a camera, for $139.00 this is the best deal on the net
I think that this is the best buy on the net, great video, excellent controls.Recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars A solid, cheap camcorder and camera.
While the DVS20 doesn't provide high-quality video, it's very adequate, especially considering the price.I am a college tennis player and use it to tape my tennis matches. The quality is just fine. The DVS20 takes decent pictures as well.I'm happy with this product and would recommend it to those who don't need serious, high-quality video.

5-0 out of 5 stars Little Gateway Delivers
I read the reviews before I bought this little multi-cam, so I knew what I was getting. I also knew that for the price, this was not going to be some high-end piece of equipment. That said, it was exactly what I wanted. Something easy to carry and that takes decent short videos and still pictures. We recently took it camping with us and took several videos of ourselves and our dog. And, you cannot beat the price. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Personal EVENT RECORDER!
I am in the Advertising-Marketing field. I've had this camcorder for about 1 year. I own 3 digital cameras and 3 camcorders; all with varying degrees of resolution quality. I bought the Mustek DV4500 as an EVENT RECORDER. People should understand that this is not high end camcorder.
2-0 out of 5 stars Nice looks, design, features but.... "Not so nice"
This 7 in 1 camera with it's really great design and advertised features, quality and performance I am yet to see out of this product. I tried fooling myself into accepting the quality. Everyone who has seen it loves it and I'm sure there are some of you that could live with and love it. My experience with it is as follows. The video recording is no better than an average digital still camera with video capability. The mic isn't bad on the audio recording. The still pictures are only slightly better than a cheap net cam. The flash is totally out of range or control, say 5 to 6 feet no closer or farther. The mp3 player is terrible. The voice record function is the only acceptable function. Far from a 4.1 megapixel advertised quality. MPEG-4 format out of this camera sucks. Overall, this is a decent quality camera for a kid to goof with and a waste of 100 bucks in my book. Put it towards a decent mini DV camera.

3-0 out of 5 stars i suggest a DV4000
This little camera is pretty good depending on how you want to use it. If your a teenager who just wants to goof off (like me) then it's great for the price. I use it for things like skating videos and short movies where the quality level does not need to be excellent and the transportability of this small camera is great. However, if you are more serious about your work then this is not for you. For a few hundred more dollars you could get a palm sized minidv camcorder that is much higher quality from any company like sony, panasonic or jvc that also take still shots. Also note that this camera's 32 mb onboard memory can barely fit any video time. I would suggest a 512 sd card that you could get from companies like viking for about 35 dollars.
