Not a good deal from Celestron
I had formed a good impression of Celestron based on my experience with the Nexstar5, so I was quite disappointed with the price:quality ratio of this accessory. What you get for the money is a fairly inexpensive plastic case (production cost to Celestron, probably <$10) and several sheets of pre-scored, low-density foam. The idea is you are supposed to "pluck" out pieces of the foam until you've got a cavity that fits the very irregular profile of the scope. I guess that's the idea - there are no instructions in the box as to how to achieve the fit. And after over an hour of very careful plucking, I ended up with a very unsatisfactory result. In order to fit the scope and foam in the box, you have to thin down the foam margins to the point that they fall apart (remember, they are pre-scored right to the edges).The margins are also thin enough so that I doubt they would provide much shock protection. Finally, the multiple floppy sheets have no way to hang together when the scope isn't in the box.Overall, it's a very poor product for the price, and very surprising, as it would have been very cheap for Celestron to supply a pair of pre-formed foam inserts. ... Amazon suggested a wrong accessory
they suggested me to buy this accessory but it does not work in my system... also, they did not return my money yet (more than 30 days since I asked them to return)

Certainly not the best option available
The only thing that's nice about this case is that the inserts are already cut out for you.The plastic outer shell is pretty cheap and doesn't inspire confidence.The locks are a joke.The case isn't water/airtight.With this case, you're paying for an official Meade accessory and the convenient cut-outs.It's really more of an organizer, a way to keep everything together with a bare minimum of protection.So before you plunk down the money, do the research and learn about other options.
If it was $40, 4 stars... But there must be something better
As may reviewers have said, it just seems cheep.A thin plastic case which flexes, with a basic cutout ofyour telescope inside.If it was $40, I would say it is great.But, at the price I paid from Amazon, I can't help but think there is something better out there. ... Read more

Light weight alternative to a hard case
The Orion Padded Case for ShortTube 80 is a great way to store your Orion Short Tube 80mm telescope. The one shortcoming of this case is that there are no pockets, internal or external, for accessories, like eyepieces or filters. It does allow you to store the telescope with the finder attached, so it is easier to set up the telescope when you take it out. Also, the long handles allow you to hang the case on ones shoulder.
