Good product
This is a good product for the money.Later on I plan to invest in a better product -- but it would still be a Vanguard.

Good enough for me
It doesn't have any problem when I use it with my Canon Powershot A520. It has a pan head, not a ball head. Sometimes one of the three feet is a little hard to be fixed. But in most cases, they work well.

Don't like it
I'm sure for a photographer with a still camera,this tripod is fine but I bought this for a camcorder and quickly found out I should have spent the money on a better tripod.
Very sturdy and packs away nicely
I've already used this at two weddings and other events.It is a very sturdy tripod, and allows great flexability when positioining the camera.The legs can be folded completely out to allow the tripod to get into some unusual positions.It also allows me to pan very smoothly.

I am quite happy with the tripod. It is quite versatile in the different configurations, allowing for a number of shots. The build is very solid, so I feel quite comfortable using it (which in the past has been my biggest complaint with tripods).

Slik Compact-XL Travel Tripod
This is a well-built and sturdy tripod.The only reason that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that when folded it is a little longer (15 inches) than I would prefer.Slik does make more compact tripods that fold to about 9 inches in length, which I find to be more convenient.

Wonderful tripod, great price
I wanted a tripod that I could use for simple photos.I had no prior experience using tripods when I ordered this.This tripod is very simple to use.It holds the camera very well.I find it easy to adjust to many angles.I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to try a tripod out.It is very helpful if you intend to use the camera's self timer frequently.Great purchase for a low price!

One leg is better than three
I enjoy a good tripod as much as the next guy, but when I go to the zoo or another place where I need to steady the camera for a zoom shot relatively quickly, the tripod takes too long to set up.I can't afford a VR lens, so instead I talked with photographers in my area and they all recomended getting a monopod.I looked around and this was the best deal in terms of both price and performance.

very good construction. folds compactly to fit in carry on bag.head action is smooth and has adjustable tension for long telephoto or wide angle lenses. The monopod is great for when a tripod takes to long to set up and is to cumberson to follow the action.

Not so bad for the money
I think $32 is a decent price to pay for this.I accidentally ordered the Canon monopod for the same price, but I have not recived it yet.

Nice Height, Poor Legs
This tripod seemed to be very nice...Until we tried to extend the legs all of the way.Two and a half of the legs worked well, the third had a section that would not stay extended.The locking devices are pretty poor.They are made of a cheap plastic and I believe that even the ones that do work well now, will not last very long with even moderate use.Next time I will try to find a tripod with a set screw type of leg extension lock.

Why I bought a new tripod:I already own an old garage-sale tripod of some unspecified brand that I've used with my video camera for several years.In retrospect, I took its stability for granted, but it lacked a few of the conviences typically found on current tripods.It folds up nicely, but is heavier to carry than current models, and the camera must be unscrewed from the base plate to remove it from the tripod.Having bought my first high quality digital still camera, I wanted a lighter-to-carry tripod and one that allowed quick removal and replacement of the camera. This tripod is helpful for needing to get close to the ground of your photography subject and has an incredibly low height. The quick release shoe is easy to use and attach to a camera. It has the capability to extend out to a 90 degree angle to the ground if your camera is looking down on an object, but this makes the tripod unstable if used with anything other than a very, very compact camera. Problem with Ball Mount
The size of this tripod is ideal when space is limited - in a pinch it can fit in a pocket. There is one major design/construction flaw however - the ball portion of the ball & socket mechanism is actually the head of a rivet machined to a ball shape. This rivet attaches to the headpiece that connects the three legs. In my case - this rivet worked loose the first day (with absolutely no pressure or abuse), meaning that the ball now rotates and wiggles back and forth. Obviously, this makes the tripod useless because there's no solid mounting for the camera. Since the construction uses a rivet (instead of a screw), there's no way to tighten this. Maybe mine's defective - but I'd be leary this construction.

Good for what it does
I bought this tripod specifically to keep in my camera bag for those times when I need a tripod but don't have one.It is a light-weight travel tripod and that's exactly what it's good for.Don't buy this if you expect more than that.For $18 (what I paid, definitely not list @ $30) it's there for me when I'm in a pinch.

Okay; if you want something STURDY this may not be the tripod for you. Out of the box I was a little afraid, but I liked the fact that it is this small, while extending a fair length. I do miss a quick-release and the (easy extending & retracting) legs don't spread out very wide, but for a cheap, lightweight tripod compared to the price I paid I cannot complain. In practical use it does all that I require it to do and it holds my 2.2 lbs camera stable and still (I shot some long exposures of the moonrise over Palm Springs from a windy 10'000ft peak). Nifty carry bag easily clips to your belt, but as mentioned elsewhere it may raise some eyebrows (looks like you are into something kinky).So; if you don't like to tote around a big tripod and you don't require easy (or any) panning and your camera is at or below 2 lbs, this may be all you need. ... Still photo only.
When I ordered this tripod, I was hoping for one that would do double dudy as a still tripod and a video tripod for my miniDV camera. It works fine for still photography, but the handles are not long enough and the pan and tilt are no where near smooth enough for video work.

Good value but
I purchased this tripod because I wanted something lightweight for travel that would work with my Canon Rebel Digital SLR, and my Canon G2. It seems to have many of the features I was looking for at a price I was wanting to pay. I had a great deal of trouble opening the quick release lever for the first time. I had to losen the screw, and spray a bit of WD40 on the lever's spring. In the process I made a few scratches on the plate. Once I was able to open the lever, everything seemed to work smoothly.Read more

Good enough for the price
Bought this tripod to replace an older sony tripod that only went up to my chest.It has excellent height and is a steal at $21, still, it has some problems.The old sony tripod has thinner legs but feels more solid/less shakey, probably because the connectors that go from the legs to the center column are aluminum while the mk-4's is plastic.It's stable enough though.The removable mounting piece is really cheap(but it serves it's purpose) so I use the mount from another tripod instead.Panning is not the smoothest, the legs on mine are silver which can cause bad reflections in glass, and minimum working height is 2 feet so you might want to get something to cover low shooting.It does not come with a bag but has a carrying handle.The older sony had a bag but it is VERY uncomfortable carrying a loose, dangly tripod on your back, and it is also awkward to carry without a handle.I very much prefer the handle over the bag. Even with all it's flaws I still do not regret the purchase because it is very tall, serves it's purpose well enough, and is super-cheap in price(just wish it was heavier).I use it to hold up a medium size camera, and it feels like it can hold up something like a Canon Digital Rebel with its plastic body and a lightweight 300mm lens okay, but not a heavy metal bodied SLR with a great big long lens.If you've got money for a camera like that, then you need to buy yourself a better, heavier tripod.By the way, people who NEED expensive bogen-manfrotto tripods and probably use bulky, heavy equipment have no business buying cheap-o $21 tripods and then saying how much they suck, IMHO.

Cheap
Don't expect a nice product for $25, the tripod does not look very solid (made in China). The bubble is pretty useless because it is not very precise (up to 5 degrees of angle it won't detect it). The head is very inaccurate, when on the horizontal rest position, it has a 3 degrees error (which means you have to correct it by slightly raising one side). I would have expected a level position when on the rest. Great pro tripod for the price
I bought this MK-4 tripod when it's about 60% off. I throw away my old tripod I bought 5 years ago right after this one came out of the box. It's very well made. It has all the position I need for the studio. The quick release shoe is well designed too. Read more

Decent extension arm, poor clamp...fine for light duty
Tried this out for in-car use, the spring in the clamp is really weak and slips easily.Arm has decent range of motion, but already has loosened up to the point that it only maintains a position inside a narrow range.Ball seat mount is best part.Overall, if you need a quick clamp to pretty much anything camera mount for static shots, or maybe an accessory mount, this should be fine. ...
