5-0 out of 5 stars my 5 year old can use it!
I bought this for my husband who is deploying next month. We took it with us to some caves to test it out and my 5 year old worked it the whole time. I was so impressed with its battery time (lasted over 3 hours) and it is so easy to use ( my 5 year old was a pro at it with little instruction). I think the quality of the pictures and video were really good espically since it doesn't have a light and we used it in some of the caves. The small size was great, I could put it in my purse or my husband put it in his shirt pocket. He is really looking forward to using the MP3 player on the trip overseas and the web camera. I highly recommend this little device especially for the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best money I ever spent
This is the funkiest little gadget I've ever had the pleasure of owning. For what you're paying, you couldn't ask for anything more. Of course, there are some cons to the numerous pros.

1-0 out of 5 stars Fine initially but failed after 6 months
This camcorder was purchased as a gift for my daughter and used about 12 times over a 6 month period before experiencing intermittent failures. The labor warranty on this unit is only 90 days and labor costs for repair approach the original cost. It is unconscionable for Panasonic to market a defective product like this. This reflects poorly on their other products and unless they address this issue with me, I will avoid their products and advise others to avoid their products as well.I might chalk this up to one defective unit if I hadn't read other accounts of the same issue. This is a manufacturing or design defect that has not been addressed by Panasonic.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great if you get the extended warranty
We got this 3 yrs ago.For the price we paid, it was packed with features and performed well for the most part.We didn't bother with the included software since we had Pinnacle.A year ago (2 yrs after purchase) we had blotches and blackouts on tapes when viewing previously taped DVs.Went through and scratched up bunches of tapes before trying out the head cleaners.Things were ok until few months ago.The motor to eject and receive the cartridge started to get stuck. After jiggling few times, even brute force, it would be ok.Now this past weekend, after we tried to use it to tape our son's birthday party, it degenerated to the point where it's 'eating up' tapes and it takes several minutes of coaxing to get the tape to go in or out.Time for a decent burial me thinks.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good for the 1st year after that terrible
We bought our camera new and thought it was GREAT! We took pictures with it mostly and did take some videos of holidays and our kids' programs, ect. Now 2 years and only 6 mini-dv tapes down the line we get an error message stating "head cleaning needed". Well we went out and bought the "needed" head cleaning cassette and ran it through. The next time, and every time since you get into taping about 5 minutes and that same message pops up. JVC's customer support is terrible. All they can say is, "take it to an authorized service center apparently your heads are bad. Well for us the closest one is 120 miles away. Add that to the cost of $50-$100/hour labor plus parts to get it fixed, are you nuts? You can probably buy a new camera by the time your done. As others have stated in their reviews, the software compatibility is also another issue they won't help you with. Just keep searching on the net and you'll eventually find someone that can help you with that problem. I am very disappointed with JVC and I wish people would wait a while before they write these reviews. People writing them a month or two after having their product is good to explain all the nice features, but how is it working now a few years down the road?

2-0 out of 5 stars NOT FOR LONGTERM

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard to beat for the price.
My wife bought this camera 3 years ago after reading a positive review. She likes the camera because it is small, simple to use, and has been dependable. She isn't a computer whiz but she has no problem using the program that comes with the camera. Her only complaint was battery life.Sherecently bought a Digital Concepts battery charger at walmart that comes with 4 - 2000mah Nimh AA batteries for $17.00.Now she can get over 70 pictures with no battery complaints. With good batteries and a good charger this camera is an amazing value at the price.

Canon raises the stakes for all-in-one digital imaging devices with the release of the Canon Optura 400 (and its sibling Optura 500; see a comparison table at the end), which is as adept at shooting digital video as it is snapping high-resolution digital stills. It offers 2.2-megapixel resolution for fine video and photo details, a 10x optical zoom lens, image stabilization, built-in SD/MMC memory card slot, and PictBridge compatibility for direct printing of still photos to compatible printers. 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome camcorder
I just received mine today and made a short cooking film while cooking dinner. This is a beautiful camcorder and still camera. It is small and fits the hand well. Looks like jewelry to me. It is perfectly quiet.I cannot hear it recording.Do not believe some reviews out there about noise. You can only hear it during fast forward and rewind.Big 1/3.4 inch CCD with Canon optics and color rendering image algorithms.Lots of manual options as well as auto.I bought a spare Canon battery (BP- 2L14, twice the power) and the built in charger charged it and the original with no problem.Very good hand ergonomics with nice button placement, intuitive operation.Excellent colors and imaging.I read my manual carefully and all installations of tape, card and backup battery were a snap. There is currently a $100 rebate and this camcorder is available for less than half the original suggested price, a steal for a camcorder of this quality.

1-0 out of 5 stars No Manual White Balance
This Camcorder is useless. Has alot of extras but when working on a video for my AV class I when to set up the white balance and found that it's auto. When compared to one with manual WB this camera sucks. Pictures are all different colors from blue to yellow. Manual WB is a basic standard on all camera and camcorder so why was it left off this one? I would give or suggest this camcorder to any one, I'd look for another, just in case you plan on editing your color don't change from shot to shot. This is a worthless camcorder.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Impressive
I have had this camcorder since October of '04, and I have only complained about one thing: not being able to hook it up to a computer through USB. Other than that, this is a very cool li'l camera that shoots good quality images.I shot video at a party for a music video with it once, and am currently using it to make a film I wrote. This is a very handy camcoreder indded, and I would recommend it to just anyone who wants to capture some fun times.I only recommend that you buy lots of tapes--it's just fun to waste tape on recording random crap sometimes!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect choice for something easy to use
After toying with the idead of getting a camcorder, I recently bought this Sony camcorder about a week ago.Out of all the ones I've researched this one seemed to be the easiest to use.I've never used a camcorder before and I was able to use this without looking through the manual.Every feature on the camcorder is clear as day to use.If you are just looking for something simply to use that has features that ANYONE can operate, this is the camera for you. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good camera
I've bought this camera about a year ago and I am very happy with it. The batery charges fast and lasts long, the movies are good in quality (clear, not blured, the colors come out exactly the same) and the camera is light enough. The only problem I've had so far is that you cannot record in the dark - the movie comes out darker than it seemed and you can hardly see anything. Otherwise I am more than happy with the camera.

2-0 out of 5 stars I would not buy it again.
If you buy this camera, remember tobuy also additional DVD copy software (IntelVideo Copy - around $70), plus only Panasonic DVD-Ram mini DVD disks (also expensive). Also, after my experience, if you erase one DVD-ram disc at least twice, on the third use the movie will have many video or audio problems. Not knowing this problem, I ruined my friend's baby shower video. Panasonic customer service is not helpful at all. A representative was even surprised that my camera does not have USB cable!!! Other then that - let's say, once you cannot return this camera to the store, because I opened it and used it, you can still enjoy lightness of the camera. One more thing: you need to purchase the light also; this camera does not have built-in light - you will need it. ... So, how much does the camera cost after all???
3-0 out of 5 stars Can't edit on my PC
I bought this camera because of consumer reports great reviews. But I'm bound and determined to get my images onto my PC.I purchased a DVD-RAM compatible drive for my PC and still can't get it to recongnize either DVD-RAM or DVD-R disks.Do I need special software? And if so what?Roxio DVD builder is not doing the trick.

1-0 out of 5 stars Please don't buy this camera!Learn from my mistake...
I have been using this camera for four years now and had been very happy until my camera fell victim to the "CCD issue" in which the screen goes blank when trying to record. Some history...this CCD problem happens in almost all of these models and has resulted in a class action suit against Sony. They now have to repair all TRV-19 cameras free of charge, including shipping to and from your home. (If you need more info on this please visit the Sony website.)I went forward with the repairs and when I received my camera back it was working correctly and the repairs appear to have been made but a small cover piece is missing.I phoned the customer service number on my invoice and the supervisor states this piece was not on their inventory taken when they received my camera and there is nothing else they could do.So I have a functional camera now but not in the same condition that I sent to them and they really could care less--it's my word against theirs. So much for customer service. If you need to send your camera in please take lots of pictures of the condition before shipping and remove all removable parts because there is a good chance you won't get them back. I was really wanting to purchase a Sony big screen TV but this experience has ruined that plan for me.I WILL NEVER BUY FROM SONY AGAIN.I know most (if not all) electronic corporations have customer service issues but this one takes the cake. They did not want to do the right thing in the first place my fixing a problem that has been confirmed as a manufacturing defect. It's disheartening that it took a lawsuit to get Sony to do what they just should have done in the first place!And...I missed getting my baby daughter's first crawl on video because of this defect--wouldn't you know the camera broke down right then...ugh!Yes...I am frustrated.I hope some of my vent has helped you...thanks for your time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful Camera for it's Compact Size
I absolutely LOVE this camcorder and the NightVision Feature is Ultra Cool. The unique hi-tech touch screen is also an added plus. I had a problem with the LCD but it was fixed for free by SONY and I've had NO PROBLEMS since. Can't say enough great things about this gem. All kinds of features, "LIKE BACKLIGHT" and excellent DV Quality! A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++=
1-0 out of 5 stars CCD repaired, but they messed up the audio!
This was a great little camcorder until the CCD issue.Yes, they repaired it for free and quite quickly. However, I just today watched the video we've taken since getting it back, and there is a VERY LOUD mechanical noise buzzing rhythmically off and on in the background. It sounds like its internal to the camera (can't be outside the camera since the footage is taken over a couple of months in a variety of locations). So now I can pay $211 for Sony to repair it.Great! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars DANGER! PICTURE PACKAGE!
The camera works great but ...Neither Sony nor Pixela, the makers of the Picture Package software that comes with some Sony camcorders with mini-disks tells you that the software IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS XP, SERVICE PACK 2! It will crash your computer or not work properly. DO NOT install the Picture Package software if you have run Windows XP. If you have a DVD player on your computer, you can download the photos from the mini-disk without this dangerous software. Shame on Sony and Pixela for selling the software to Windows XP users or including it with the camera without a warning. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I like this camera!
Well, I just read other reviews and I was surprised!First of all, I had a USB cable that fit the camera and plugged into my computer, so I didn't have that issue.I'm sure I would've been frustrated as well if I had to go purchase one.Personally, I was able to edit and create movies on my computer with no problem, using the free software that came with my computer (Sony VAIO, 3 years old).So I guess maybe I was lucky, but I have had a very good experience with this camera. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the picture quality on my movies isn't the greatest. This camera is a little outdated though, so I can't complain.Plus, for the price, it has been outstanding.

3-0 out of 5 stars PC connection issue rears it's ugly head
I've had this camera for 2 years now and for the price it has done alright.Recently though, just as someone had mentioned in an earlier review, it stopped connecting to my PC via the firewire.I plugged in a friends JVC and it worked fine, so I know it's not the computer or the cable. Its past warranty obviously... I don't think I'll pay to have it fixed.I just wish this would have lasted longer.Time for a better one - this time made in America !

5-0 out of 5 stars Camera Rocks !!
For the price this Camera Rocks !! I've had it for close to 2 years and for the price it's awesome.. I've used it to video tape Basketball and Football games .. Just an outstanding value.. The battery last at least over an hour .. Picture quality is great .. Check out some of my video at www.pleasantgrovesports.com .. Go to either Basketball or Football links .. click J.V. and then one of the kids last name for a short video clip..

1-0 out of 5 stars Model GR-D30U
I've owned a model GR-D30U for less than two years.Yesterday the camcorder just quit powering on. The DC will not work, the battery will not charge. It simply will not turn on at all. Worse, I have a tape in there that I cannot remove without a hammer. The store I bought it from wants $100 just for "diagnosis."Just another case of expensive disposable electronics. My choice next time will not be JVC, a brand I used to trust.

3-0 out of 5 stars If I had read these reviews
If I had read the previous reviews I would not have purchased this camera. That would have been a mistake. I have used this camera for over a year without any problems. I have a professional JVC GY-DV5000 that costs thousands of dollars and this little camera will come close to the same picture quality when shooting outside. Shooting inside and low light conditions is where you realize what you paid for. The 93 will not produce good color if you don't have enough light but I don't think that many consumer models from any other manufacturer will either. Especially at this price point.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy A JVC
I purchased a GR-D70 2 years ago. Last week it quit for no reason at all. I've probably used it 10 times. It looks like brand new, well taken care of, never dropped or abused. Since I paid over $400 for it, and it's had such little use,I thought JVC would stand behind their product. WRONG! Their recommendation is to have you ship it to a service center, pay an unreal amount for repair, and hope it lasts another 2 years. I have never paid so much for a new camera and have it totally fail in 2 years. After much research I find quite a number of people with similiar and other failures on a multitude of JVC Digital cameras. My recommendation is to not buy ANY JVC products! Thank you. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Crappy Quality Indoors
Some of the reviews here state that this camera produces good quality video is false. I am wondering what they are comparing the quality to. My camera (Canon ZR80) is horrible. When shooting indoors with light coming through a slider door into the living room the image is very grainy. I compared it to one of the old "suit case" analog camera and the analog camera produces I would say 100% better image quality than Canon ZR80.
3-0 out of 5 stars really nice camera but some flaws
i have had this camera for about a year and it is good. one of the problems was that when in low light it dosn't deliver really great quality. one time when i was connecting it to my computer it wasn't working so i had to send it back canon and they repaired it. another thing is the battery life. the battery that comes with it lasts a short while. it seems to drain the battery really fast and i am constantly charging it. it's a good camera but next time i would choose another one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Please people, great cam!
At first, I was really uneasy about buying the ZR80 because of the negative reviews I read. However, I decided to buy the camcorder because It had the features i was looking for at a great price. When i recieved the camcorder I couldn't wait to try it out, and to my suprise i hardly found 1 flaw. Many people say things like there is loud motor noise, lousy picture in low-lighted areas, and a useless night shot feature. Im here to tell you that they are all WRONG! I couldn't notice motor noice, the picture and color were superb, the night shot was a great tool, and you can hear normal conversation talk almost 20 feet away! I would think that the people whom write these negative reviews either have a defect in the camera, or are looking for something other than a digital camera, like the type Speilberg uses. An external mic jack would be okay, but Ive found that it isnt really a necessety. I use this camera for everything from home movies, weddings, and parties. Ive never found the need for an extra microphone. The night mode works great too, ive recorded video in my driveway at midnight during a party and the picture is great. The features don't end there, the software advantages you can use are awesome for editing. Playback is good, zoom is clear and smooth. My experiences with this camera has made me a big Canon buyer. All of the canon products ive bought are high quality and very reliable. I now use Canon for almost all of my office and video needs. If your looking for an all-around great cam, with good features at a low price, then the Canon ZR80 is a good choise. All of my previous 8 millimeter and digital camcorders do not compare, A great buy, trust me. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Small package and small performance
This camera specs well and packs a lot of features. Using the features can be difficult and in some cases, too easy. On several occassions, I have hit the photo button while trying to find the zoom button. The IEEE 1394 (firewire) port failed. While mounted on my tripod, you cannot replace the battery. The battery release is on the bottom of the camera which is obstructed by the tripod. The sound quality is marginal. I am being generous with a three star rating. If you plan to use the camera frequently, invest time understanding your objectives and match the capabilities of the camera. This camera is small and awkward for me to use. I was happy to receive it as a gift but would not have purchased it for myself.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera
This Panasonic DV camcorder is a solid performer and a great value. I've been using it for several months, and it hasn't let me down at all. Battery life is good, picture quality is great, and audio quality is acceptable.4-0 out of 5 stars Very nice...however......
I love the camera for the purpose of recording those unforgettable moments, but when using to take digital photos....it's not so good. The pictures have a very low resolution and when the photos are printed (from both photo center and my home printer) they look like a computer screen picture.Even with the light feature on, they aren't very nice printed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera
I have had mine for 3 years and not a one problem with it.Would recommend Panasonic to anyone.

1-0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE VIDEO CAMERA-I AM ON MY 2ND ONE
Let me just tell you that PANASONIC IS HORRIBLE!!! I have never in my life been soo upset over any electronic...EVER!I got this video camera as a birthday present in May 2004 for my first cruise.I played with the camera for just an hour and set it aside until my vacation.I left for my vacation a week after i got the video camera.I turned the video camera on of course on the plane to tape my friends being goofy then did not turn it on until we were settled in our hotel.I taped about 2 min while walking around and did not touch it again until of course our taxi ride to the cruise ship. While we were in the cab i turned my brand new video camera on to find the words "dew detected" and to hear this clicking noise! i almost immediatly broke down in tears.I tried to ask everyone if they knew what it meant, but had no luck. I saw a couple of people on the ship with the same camera and they were having no problems with theirs. i was soo desperate to video the beautiful sights from the ship that i even asked someone to borrow theirs and put my own tape in it! Every day i tried to play with it, fix it, turn it on, off, etc...but nothing! i got home and exchanged it for a brand new one! they couldnt tell me the reason why this was happening, but it did.I walk out with my brand new video camera that i wish i had for my trip, but its ok...my new niece was being born so at least i would have it for that!I used it a couple of times and then just put it back in my drawer until i needed it again...which was last week!I turned it on and it said "dew detected" and the tape compartment will not close! i cannot believe this is happening to me AGAIN! i have used this camera only 3 times! I am furious! i called panasonic only for them to tell me that it was going to cost me $250 to fix it.I explained to them this is my second camera that this happened to and they dont care! My next step, after reading the same complaints, is to take it up with a manager or someone else that has power other than some customer service rep who could care less about my needs. I am going on vacation next week and need a new camera. i am furious! Can someone please tell how they got a new camera? I am thinking just throwing it out?I am soo furious that this has happened to me again!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but Broke after 1.5 years
It had been a good camera, but recently, the cassette compartment won't close. It makes a funny clicking sounds and does not close. 1.5 years seem a little short for reliability. ... Read more
