Invaluable for low light picture taking!
I bought this item on a whim before a trip to Europe in case we wanted to take some pictures of us on the trip.It turned out to be one of the best ideas I had for the trip.It is small, so it can easily be carried around in a bag or even your pocket and is light so you don't even notice it.
sturdy and well-designed
An excellent purchase that lives up to the Sony name. My main concern before buying it was that it would swivel enough that I could point my mini-camera straight down to take macro photos of documents. It does this easily, and the legs don't get in the way. It's small enough to chuck in my backpack and take it all the time in case I need it, and it has its own little sturdy fabric carrying bag so that it doesn't get tangled up in anything else. Overall, I would rate it as excellent.

Must have accessory for your digital camera

This little charger is a "must have" for DSC-R1 owners!
Forget the "brick" and the AC cord!Just get one of these compact chargers and an extra battery and your DSC-R1 will never be out of power.I carry a charged battery in my gear bag attached to the little charger and swap and recharge as needed.

I purchased this battery about 3 weeks ago as a backup for my S410.It's too soon to comment on whether this battery will take as many charge cycles as the OEM, but subjectively, this battery has taken about as many photos on a charge.It has gold contacts and the construction quality and finish is as good or better than the Canon. Outstanding media
Short review: Have burned about twenty disks, all work perfectly. Have made home dvds out of them, all work in three different regular dvd players that I've tried. Very satisfied with them.

Burns perfectly; no coasters!
I am burning these discs on a Sony DRU-810A, and they work flawlessly. Maybe it's the fact that they are on Sony's compatible list for the drive or that they are quality discs, I don't know. But what I do know is that the picture quality that I got from my copy was PERFECT. NO PIXELATION, NO DROPPED FRAMES, and NO PAUSES. A perfect burn.

Works great in the proper situation
First, let me say that I did not buy this as a replacement or substitute for my tripod or monopod. I bought it for certain situations.I keep one hand on it or at least keep the strap for my camera around my neck while shooting.
Bean bag with a screw
I like this thing it works great with a light weight prime lens. It is what it is and it was not meant for a medium zoom or bigger lens. I find it has it't place in my camera bag and the cost is right. I do have one compaint they use velcro on the bottom of the pod to keep the plastic beads inside and sometimes they leak out into my bag so you have to check from time to time to make sure it is properly sealed. I also wish it was a bit bigger but I am not complaining too much.

This is a keeper.
I was going to give this unique device 4 stars for one reason. The covering on the bottom could easily have been made from a softermaterial -- such as the rubber mesh used to keep dishes from slipping in boats at sea. I have some shelf liner that is sturdy, cheap and really grips any surface. Why did I change my mind? One simple reason: I have been using it constantlysince I opened the box. I love simple solutions for ongoing irritations. I no longer find my self looking all over for a safe place to set the camera and then fidgeting with it to get it pointed properly. Using the camera timer I can often disable the flash and routinely get excellent results. Obviously not all picture taking situations require the benefits provided by the easy use of the Pod, but I find many do. The value of this gadget was apparent the first time I scrolled through a batch of new pictures.I caught my self actually leaving the bag attached when I put the camera away. Nice lightweight Tripod
This is a nice lightweight tripod from Sony. Stable and well built. I have used it with both still and video cameras without any problems. It would be nice if it came with a travel bag of some sort.

Good head for the price

must have for low light digital stills
if you have pretty much ANY digital camera and want to do closeups or see what you're taking pix of before flash, you need this or similar light.A german company makes a high-wat LED video light but it has speckled pattern, not good for closeup stills.The light pattern on this is VERY even.Closeup up with light in one hand and camera in other, to cover an object 6 to 8 inches.pull back to widen light to 2 feet or more across.Keep the video light as close to camera as possible, will reduce shadows the camera sees.Even outdoors at 9000' in Colorado I found use for this, taking picture on shady trail where a plant was half in shade, will fix this.

Wonderful Accessory
I found this item in Amazon's Gold Box. I read other reviews, some saying it was bulky and heavy. So I was expecting something a little heavier and bulky. Perfect for my HDR-FX1 Camera
This tripod is stable, fairly light and has remote controls on the handle that perfectly interact with my Sony HDR-FX1 HDV camera.Using the LANC connection I can zoom in and out at a variable speed / start and stop the camera without actually touching the camera.Well worth the money!

Great value for the money
I bought this tripod to use with my Sony HDR-HC1 high-def camcorder. For the price, this is the perfect tripod if you own a compatible camera. Pans and tilts were smooth and adjustable. The quick release mount was nice, although you have to remove the mount to change tapes. This is more of a flaw in the camera design than the tripod design. The zoom lever also gave me more control over my zoom. I looked at other tripods at my local camera shops and they wanted well over $400 for a similar tripod (without the remote controls!). The included carrying case was a nice bonus as well (I didn't even know it came with one). My only complaint is that you have to remove the control arm to store it in the case. I can recommend this tripod for pro-sumer use.

Shipping Message is a Joke! Ordered 8 days back!
It seems Amazon.com service is getting poorer day by day. The product page displays it will ship in 1-2 days. I've placed order for this item more than 8 days back. I got email today from Amazon saying it will take another 20 days. This site is becoming CHEAP and UNRELIABLE site. To top all this you cannot talk to anybody. You can send only email. Usually I've seen retailers throwing some goodies when they make mistake. Amazon guys simply send you one email saying they are cancelling your order.

Remarkable quality - a must have!
I have used other Hi8 tapes but from my expreience nothing beats the quality of a Sony. I am an active member of a muscial band and we perform about every week. I set my camera (Sony TRV340) on a tripod and let it record on all our venues. As a result I consume quite a number of tapes per month. Because of this I need a reliable, high-quality brand that I can trust; the Sony Hi8. Video quality is superior, even after several re-recordings (taping over footage). The same goes for the sound; crisp and clear (especially when you have an auxilary mic). I found the outer tape housing surprisingly strong. At one time I dropped a box of these tapes from a high shelf and on to a hard-tile floor - but they remained intact and safe. These tapes are pretty much versitle in any kind of filming situation, and for that I give Sony praise.
