5-0 out of 5 stars Gitzo MK 2
In preparation for a three week Everglades bird photo shoot, and realizing that any tripod that I might take would be on my sholder more than it was on the ground, weight became an important consideration.I mated this tripod and the WIMBERLEY head which has the ARCA Swiss type quick release for lenses.I carried the tripod for three weeks and was very happy that with my choice.I recommend the three section leg.The four section leg, while shorter and will fit more easily in luggage, the bottom-most section is too small and is therefore not as stable - the whole idea - as the three section leg.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best
This is the G1325 carbon fiber Gitzo tripod without any center column. It's incredibly stable, well-constructed, and beautifully finished, and will support as much as an equivalent aluminum tripod weighing nearly twice as much.

5-0 out of 5 stars My first (not-so-great) unipod
EDIT (2006-03-26):
5-0 out of 5 stars Lightweight, Cost Effective Monopod
This monopod is built sturdy and is very cost effective. At a fraction of the price of other monopods, this one is well worth the price. The three section extensions of the leg seem to be made of aluminum or another hard metal, and are very stiff to give good support. The last piece of the leg can get wobbly at times, but this is expected since it is the most skinny of all the sections. The quick locks on the legs are made of plastic but are built well. They clamp strong and the legs cannot move once clamped into place. The bottom piece is plastic, not rubber, but is threaded and can be removed to replace with whatever type of material you would like.I would have preferred rubber, but this doesn't affect much for me.The handle is made of a soft cushion material which is angled to fit nicely in the grip of your hand. The wrist strap seems to get in the way most of the time for me so I took it off.Folds down to a relatively decent length for travel purposes.Highly recommended for a cheap price!

5-0 out of 5 stars lightweight and it locks tight
This is a very nice accessory to have.As someone else said, a monopod is NOT supposed to stand on its own.You still hold the camera and it's meant to support it and reduce shake.I still use my tripod more, but for things like sports, plays, etc. where you really can't use a tripod, this comes in handy. You also should consider a head for it.I have a cheap Bogen 3232 that allows you to more easily mount the camera AND allows you to rotate 90 degrees in a jiffy. The only problem I have with it is that the sections sometimes get jammed and they are hard to pull out. This doesn't happen all the time, but does sometimes. But it's so cheap it doesn't matter. Also, make sure you extend starting with the top sections on down. This makes it more stable. That applies to all monopods, not just this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid, Dual-Purpose Tripod
I recently purchased this model to serve for both still and video photography.I am very pleased with the tripod after a few weeks of use. It's very sturdy, all metal and easily locks with the legs at any length. The head has a dampened effect on the pan and tilt which is great for video use and easily adjusts and locks in any position for still photography.
5-0 out of 5 stars Super tripod
This is one beautiful tripod. All metal and a great height for me as I am tall. Easy to adjust, smooth fluid operation. Also, you can flip the camera 90 degrees while still mounted to go from landscape to portrait position. Quick release and 360 degree level. I love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars great tripod
I bought this tripod locally (needed right away). It is all metal and very stable. The champagne finish is beautiful.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good tripod!
Sturdy while still being light.
4-0 out of 5 stars Dave is incorrect
In his review, Dave from Portola Valley claims that the Amazon editorial is wrong. If you read the editorial properly, it states that this tripod has "three leg sections, with integral quick release lock levers".That's quick release levers on the legs, not a quick release camera plate.1-0 out of 5 stars Wrong product, not the one described in Editorial Review
This product does not include any pan head or quick release plate, contrary to way is described in Amazon's editorial review.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars High-Quality and Ultra-Small
Nice for traveling, this tripod is ultra-lightweight and takes up very little room (less than two pounds and a little over a foot long). It is very well constructed with smooth controls and comes with a custom carrying bag. No complaints, given the minimal size and weight it is designed for. Of course, it is not meant for use with a 15 pound camera-lens combination but works fine with my Canon 5D and 70-200 f4L lens 3-pound combo.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good quality and easy to use
Good quality and easy to use. Since this was very compact, it was the best for trip with my family. And very easy and effective for adding me to photographs with my family, without asking others on your shots at the view point!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Just What I Needed... and Exceeded my Expectations
Just what I needed for a 2 week vacation when weight and space mattered. The low height required more stooping than my standard tripod; but, the advantage of the compact size and weight was well worth it. (I generally avoid extending the center column of any tripod.)

2-0 out of 5 stars tripod quick release weak
I bought this tripod in February 2005 from Adorama.com. I had to return it because of the quick-release camera platform. The same thing that happened to the previous reviewer, "ez53" (Cumberland, Rhode Island USA), happened to me. It's just too difficult to screw on my Nikon N80 SLR to the platform and it comes loose after I tightened it. I also didn't like the fact that thequick-release platform is right-tilting (I prefer left-tilting).

2-0 out of 5 stars Durable but a pain in the neck
My Canon 20D weighs about 5 pounds by itself and when purchased, included this durable fabric neck strap. The supplied neck strap is simple, basic, and advertises Canon boldly. That may be okay if you don't make much use of the strap or use light weight lenses. Take my camera however, and add any one of my heavy L lenses to it and the supplied neck strap can still do the job, but quickly becomes a pain in the neck.
2-0 out of 5 stars Great strap, but cheap buckles
I loved every aspect of this strap until one of the plastic buckles broke and dumped my 20d on the asphalt.ouch!!I just replaced it with the Op/Tech pro loop strap, which has much more subtantial buckles. The Op/Tech seems to be a much better strap for 10 bucks less. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY- THIS TRIPOD IS JUNK!!!!
I have had nothing but problems with this tripod. There is a design fault with the release for the bottom sections. I have had the legs strip out thirteen times, three times in front of clients. I have sent it into Bogen Imaging (the American company that services Gitzo tripods) twice now. All three legs have failed at one time or another making this a two legged tripod, truly a useless product. From other professionals I have found that the carbon fiber version of this tripod does not suffer from the same manufacturing fault.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not durable and inconvenient to use.
I have used it for three years now. I was dissappointed at it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this before Gitzo figures out they can charge more!
The G2220 has to be the best tripod deal going right now.It only weighs about 1/3 of a pound more than it's carbon fiber counterpart yet costs considerably less. With this package you get the expected Gitzo durability and quality but the rotating center column gives you a versatility never before offered. You literally can set up your camera in any position imaginable anywhere you please.Underneath the rubber feat are spikes so even difficult terrain is no problem.I've also found out that the 13.23 pound limit is only if you have the legs really splayed out.Using a more "normal" setup one can go a lot heavier. For example, I haven't had any stability problems with my Canon 20D + battery grip and up to a 400mm lens mounted. It's been rock-steady every time (however, if you're regularly shooting monster-sized glass then you would definitely benefit from stepping up to Gitzo's beefier models.)So stop thinking about it and get this tripod already! In the $200 price range, this gem simply has no competition. ...
