5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent alternative to mineDV camcorder
I wanted to purchase a digital camcorder to record family events, parties, kid's performaces at school, etc. Until now, I was using 9 year old 8mm Sony TR86 camcorder that at the time of purchase was very basic...no LCD, no stabilization, etc. But at that price (it cost over [...] then) that all what I could afford. And I can tell you for 9 years, this camcorder was servicing me very well but now my son needs that camcorder to record his school's projects.
4-0 out of 5 stars My second D8 camera
This review is really about the Sony D8 cameras. I've just ordered this camera after my original one was stolen. I bought my original D8 back in 2000 and took it all over the world. It was thrown into backpacks, taken to the beach and had the dust of three continents in the viewfinder. Throughout it all it performed flawlessly. In six years I never took it in for servicing, though I kept meaning to get it cleaned I never did. I took hundreds and hundreds of hours of video and never had a glitch. My wife is a choreographer and I've filmed many dance performances and this camera often took better quality images than the professionals hired for the job.
5-0 out of 5 stars Can't beat it for the money
This is the second camcorder I've purchased. Learning to use it and getting decent footage was a breeze compared to my old VHS-C camcorder. The battery life is decent and the picture quality is very good.

2-0 out of 5 stars No USB Port!
This camcorder can not be used to record direct to your computer or any of the new dvd recorders. You have to record first to video tape then be able to connect your VCR to a dvd recording device.Very disappointed. How hard can it be for Sony to add the USB port?Even my $100 digital camera has a USB port.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good enough.
This is your basic video camera. I'd say it's good for those who just need a video camera for occassional video recording. It has the basic features, with NightShot as an additional bonus. The picture quality isn't as great as I thought it would be (it's a bit grainy on my 36" WEGA), it doesn't record in stereo, and I wish it could hook up on my computer, but there's no USB port. I guess for the price you pay, it's expected. I'd recommend it if you're not really looking for something too hi-tech. I wish I could've gone with something better, maybe the next model up, but hey, it gets the job done.

4-0 out of 5 stars I want to marry this camcorder!
Everything about this camera is amazing to me. I originally read that there is a problem with this model of camcorder with the screen blanking out after 1 or 2 years of use. I haven't seen any signs of that happening so far. I love this. Being a college kid it gets banged up on occasion, but my Sony seems to have held up to the challenge.

1-0 out of 5 stars Panasonic PV-L354 - NO SOUND is no good!!
I, too, thought this was an excellent camcorder for several months until I did a playback of one of those events that can't be repeated and....NO SOUND!! The video looks great, but...NO SOUND!! It had worked fine on several occasions and even now, I can shoot a quick video and check to make sure there is sound on the playback before I shoot the important moment I want to capture. Then I shoot the main event and, again, NO SOUND!! Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it doesn't...very unpredictable. I thought it was operator error on my part until I saw Mark Noll's review.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Product
We bought this camcorder because we were going on Vacation to Disneyland and our other camcorder would not work. This camcorder is so much better than our other one was. When ever you moved the old camcorder to get various shots, it had to refocus, which took a few minutes. This one does not need to refocus. This camcorder is a little bit heavier than our old one, but it is easier to use. And the better quality makes up for the weight difference. This is a very good product and I will recomend it to a lot of people.

4-0 out of 5 stars For The Price You Can't Beat It!
I am from the old school. So I not only loved the VHS recording format, but if I wanted to dip into modern day technology the photo feature on this particular model will allow me to. Compared to other camcorders under $250 the picture isn't as great but good enough! Remember you get the best of both worlds with this one!! It's easy to use and it's cheap!!!!!!!!! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Fine initially but failed after 6 months
This camcorder was purchased as a gift for my daughter and used about 12 times over a 6 month period before experiencing intermittent failures. The labor warranty on this unit is only 90 days and labor costs for repair approach the original cost. It is unconscionable for Panasonic to market a defective product like this. This reflects poorly on their other products and unless they address this issue with me, I will avoid their products and advise others to avoid their products as well.I might chalk this up to one defective unit if I hadn't read other accounts of the same issue. This is a manufacturing or design defect that has not been addressed by Panasonic.
3-0 out of 5 stars Panasonic PV-L454 VHS-C Camcorder w/20x Optical Zoom

1-0 out of 5 stars No Manual White Balance
This Camcorder is useless. Has alot of extras but when working on a video for my AV class I when to set up the white balance and found that it's auto. When compared to one with manual WB this camera sucks. Pictures are all different colors from blue to yellow. Manual WB is a basic standard on all camera and camcorder so why was it left off this one? I would give or suggest this camcorder to any one, I'd look for another, just in case you plan on editing your color don't change from shot to shot. This is a worthless camcorder.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Impressive
I have had this camcorder since October of '04, and I have only complained about one thing: not being able to hook it up to a computer through USB. Other than that, this is a very cool li'l camera that shoots good quality images.I shot video at a party for a music video with it once, and am currently using it to make a film I wrote. This is a very handy camcoreder indded, and I would recommend it to just anyone who wants to capture some fun times.I only recommend that you buy lots of tapes--it's just fun to waste tape on recording random crap sometimes!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect choice for something easy to use
After toying with the idead of getting a camcorder, I recently bought this Sony camcorder about a week ago.Out of all the ones I've researched this one seemed to be the easiest to use.I've never used a camcorder before and I was able to use this without looking through the manual.Every feature on the camcorder is clear as day to use.If you are just looking for something simply to use that has features that ANYONE can operate, this is the camera for you. ... The Sony CCD-TRV68 is a wonderful addition to the Hi8 format, which features the best video quality outside of digital. The 20x optical (28x digital) zoom lens is paired with Sony's SteadyShot image stabilization, a good thing when you're dealing with high zoom levels. Additionally, a number of faders and shooting modes are built into the CCD-TRV68, all of which add spice to your video. Sony's NightShot system uses the infrared spectrum to illuminate subjects in low-light (or no-light) situations. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't plan on using this camcorder for long...
We used this camcorder about 3 times before it died. It would no longer record properly. It captured audio but not video (ended up with a blank screen video capture.)
3-0 out of 5 stars An 'ok' Buy
I recieved this camera as a gift and used it 6 times before the amplifier went out, so that when you were watching your videos-you got sound, but no picture. This happened with our first camera, but you could see the video but there was no sound-also the amplifier. Unfortunatly it didn't fall under warranty so we have a broken camera lying around and must buy a new one. I give it three stars because for the time that I was able to use it, it was a great camera. If you do decide to buy this one-maybe think about an extended warranty?

3-0 out of 5 stars Good camera for the price - but make sure you check specs
I bought this camera slightly used in mint condition and I'm fairly impressed with it.The steadyshot function and nightshot are excellent features. However, I'm selling it, because you cannot take still shots, and it costs you an extra [money amount]for a media converter if you want to review/edit your videos on your computer. But, it is a good camera if you like watching home videos on your TV. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad
Picture quality is good, loud & sensitive mono sound, easy and not too heavy (about 2 lbs with battery), not too big size for travelling (about 4.5 x 5 x 11 inches). STANDARD BATTERY that came with this camera works 2 hours for B&W viewfinder recording 50 minutes with color LCD recording. If you play black a lot on the LCD (I like to do that), this battery will last about 30 minutes, charging time is about 1 hour. Option batteries are available, and I think I should have one. 5-0 out of 5 stars Exceeds expectations
I just received this today and I'm very excited about this camera. It comes complete with bag (in primary colors), strap for camera, A/V cable, remote, batteries for remote, AC adaptor, and rechargable battery pack.Only thing you need to buy is the 8mm tape.Well worth the money considering you don't have to buy the extras. This camera will help make some memorable holiday moments last forever.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Video Camera w/ lots of extras!
I bought this camcorder back in July and I have enjoyed it ever since.I have taken a lot of footage of skateboarding in my area and such. All I need to do is find a cheap fish-eye lens, and some cables to go to my PC.Can anyone help me find the right cable for this camera to a PC?Thanks. 5-0 out of 5 stars BEST of it's class!
I researched camcorders for 4 weeks straight before deciding upon this Panasonic. It has all the features (LCD screen, built in light, best optical zoom-focus available 26x, 150x digital zoom, remote, digital fades, titling, image stabalization...the list goes on! ) of other qualitycamcorders, only at half the cost!We absolutely LOVE this camera!Myonly concern was that is was VHS-C, as opposed to 8mm...BUT that isdefinately not a concern anymore. The picture quality of this PanasonicVHS-C is outstanding, and has great sound too!Another awesome feature isyou don't have to hook up your camera to your tv or vcr everytime you wantto watch what you taped (like the 8mm camcorders...ugh!)....this Panasoniccomes with the VHS-C adapter tape cartridge the you just insert into yourVCR like a regular VHS tape. All you do is push PLAY!If you've beenlooking for a quality camera but don't want to fork over tons ofmoney....this is definatlely your BEST bet!

4-0 out of 5 stars A camcorder easy enough for Grandma
Very good camcorder for those looking for less buttons, easy to use and great results. The LCD screen is great for recording yourself and with others, knowing you got the shot you wanted and those tri-pod shots todifficult looking through a view finder. A movement activation option forthose who what to see what goes on while their away is rather cool. Itworks so well in low level light, we haven't used the built-in light sourceyet. A camcorder you don't have to carry a manual around and with thequality of those you do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to learn to use and simple to playback

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best camcorder
We bought one of these a few weeks ago and were quite disappointed. The battery only lasted about 7-8 minutes, and YES, I refreshed and fully charged it and did everything I was supposed to. I don't know if it was a bad battery or if someone had used up it's life and returned it, but I have yet to get a response from the company about it. The picture quality was very grainy as well. It is a cheap camcorder, but in my opinion you don't get even get $200 worth out of this one. I took it back and bought a Sony TRV 280 for a little more and it is AWESOME! Long battery life and great picture quality. Well worth the extra $50! ... Read more

In a world increasingly dominated by digital, Hi8 offers a refreshingly good format to shoot in. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great little camera for the money
I've been trying to buy a video camera for the past 6 years (ever since my first monster bought in 1990 died).I finally bit the bullet since this camera seemed so reasonable and so highly-rated.I'm happy with every aspect of this camcorder. The bells and whistles are surprisingly complete, and it's so lightweight that I can (and do) spend the entire day with it in my hand.5-0 out of 5 stars A better camcorder than I thought!
We purchased this camcorder for the holidays, selecting the CCDTRV308 over the CCDTRV108 due to it's added features such as image stability and auto-light. It arrived within three days - amazing! With my son's birthday coming up at the weekend, and the speedy delivery, it was a real test as to whether I could read the manual and become comfortable in the camcorder's use before the big day. The instructions are clear, concise and easily referenced. Read more

I had bought this camera at sears a few years ago. it works pretty good, i have never had a problem with weird noise, or bad picture or anything, the only bummer is if you want a camera that is easy to be able to transfer your video to disk, then this is not the camera for you, but if you prefer tapes its pretty good, and you can get the tapes from wal-mart, so all in all its a fairly good camera.

I have had this camera for about 5 years and didn't use it all that often but when I did I was pretty happy with it until recently when the battery started lasting only 5 minutes after charging it.So if you want to get this camera I suggest picking up another battery
5-0 out of 5 stars Had for Many Years and Still Love It
I bought mine at another store several years ago. I have only recently had any problems with it and that is the batteries. They do not charge anymore because of age and use, but other than that, this camera has not had any problems. I have never had trouble with the door. I love the effects. As soon as I can find a replacement battery, I will be back to videoing. I have taped a moving train, cats runing around and even a funeral on this baby. It is a great camera for as old as it is.

Sony's elongated Handycam design fits easily in one hand and is well-balanced. While not the lightest of camcorders, we found the Handycam line one of the most ergonomic and easy to use.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars C:31:23 error
I've been getting the C:31:23 error message on CCD-TRV36 model.Bought this unit four years ago and used it rarely (max 60hrs).I have contact SONY several times. The off-shore tech support suggest I spend $200 and send this to Sony and they will fix it for me (all labor and no parts needed!)They probably have an easy fix for it and are not willing to post it on their web site. Why should they when they can make $200!I told tech supportI can buy a brand new digital one for $350 and it will defiantly not be a Sony brand.I have put in brand new Sony tape and brand new rechargeable battery and it did not fix this issue.

5-0 out of 5 stars Compact, convenient, and great battery life.
The camera really is easy to use and is loaded with features. The remaining battery life indicator is a GREAT feature. The special effects are fun to use. The night shot is cute but my use would be minimal.Overall, it is a very good camcorder.I would buy it again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very pleased with this camcorder
I just purchased this camcorder used for only $80.It is a great camera for the price. It's easy to use and the picture is good in quality.I bought it as a gift for my son (age 7) and he can handle it well on his own.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst quality I've seen in a long time
Pretty cheap for a Hi8 camcorder, but quality is unacceptably poor. The zoom lever is hard to operate, and when you put in a tape the mechanism makes tons of noise, really making you nervous.LCD screen is a little flaky, deciding to quit working occasionally so you have to turn the machine off, wait 10 seconds and turn it back on.It also destroyed a new TDK Hi8 tape this past winter.I think I wasted my money, and look forward to getting a Sony this summer when I get a new job.

1-0 out of 5 stars Malfunction after short time
The camcorder worked only a couple of times. Then the playback picture was totally ....... ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Iv'e had it for a year and still can't get it to a dvd-r
These instructions suck! They leave out vital information on procedures (like the exporting and burning onto disks) and then stick it somewhere else in the book.It does not give the "how to" in step by step format. I have had this complicated mess for a year and still don't have it figured out.Recording is a breeze but getting it off your dvd-ram onto your computer is a load of crap and best of all I have yet to find a place that sells the magical dvd-r's that are compatible to this thing.I finally exported my recording from the dvd-ram into the software and now I will have to thumb through these instructions for daysto find out the small paragraphs just thrown about in bits and pieces throughout this manual to figure out how to save it to a dvd-r (wherever you find the ones that go with this fickle panasonic camcorder)

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't let the DVD name fool you - poor video quality
This camera uses MPEG-1 compression which is basically VHS quality, not MPEG-2 which is the current DVD standard of choice. Despite high pixel count for still images, MPEG-1 is only 352X240 and it shows. Also, software provided is PC only. Finally, the small (8cm) format discs don't play well in cheaper players.I've had problems where the small disc does not have enough mass to keep the spindle PLL in the player locked so the movie hesitates on playback. Very frustrating. All in all a big disappointment.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this camera!!!!!
If you are concerned with picture quality don't buy this camera. This cameras selling feature is that you can record to dvd.Which is does very well. The picture quality is very poor. The color fidelity and saturation is very poor. The detail in the blacks is non existent. If you are like me and tape the kids bithday party's, etc & want any kind of picture quality don't buy this camera. Most of my recording was being done under 3 60 watt light bulbs.Such as in a living room or kitchen. So there's plenty of light to work with. What you are paying for with this camera is the dvd recorder. As others have said the supplied software is useless.

1-0 out of 5 stars A very bad choice (it broke for no reason TWICE)
When I first bought this camcorder in December 2000, it seemed to work pretty well. But after 4 months, the zoom button broke. Then for no apperent reason the whole camcorder completley stopped working, so I had to send it to the JVC mechanics to get it fixed. When it was returned (after spending a lot of money to get it fixed), it worked well, or so I thought. Only 2 months after having it returned, the zoom button broke again, and the viewfinder turned green. 1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible camera
The picture quality is unacceptable, the VHSC format is a pain, it goes through batteries too fast, and it's shoddily built.Take advice from a guy who works with this kind of stuff all day.I bought this thinking it might be a good low-budget camera for home movies, but it's really worthless. After a month of terrible looking home movies, mine stopped working for no apparent reason. When I tried to call JVC, their customer service line disgusted me so much that I gave up, threw it out, and bought a slightly more expensive Sony model.I'm completely pleased with the Sony, and I highly recommend their camcorders for anyone.Just make sure to get the Digital8 format, it's really the best out there.

Samsung has been making both film cameras and camcorders for many years now, first as a manufacturer for a major Japanese camera company, and now on its own. The years of experience have paid off, and Samsung now sells high-quality, low-cost, entry-level camcorders under its own name. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Small, stylish but one thing is not good
I bought this camcorder from amazon.com for $313.88. This camera is stylish, small with many features. Auto Exposures modes, Preset titiles like Anniversary, Birthday, Our Son, Our Boy e.t.c. The normal zoom is great but when you activate the digital zoom which is 440x and zoom in at a far object it zooms but the focus becomes blur some what. This is even written in the guide which comes with the camera. I dont know why this kind of fault is left in such a good camera with so many functions which are difficult to get in this price range. It also has a BLC function. On activating it the background becomes dull and the object becomes bright so that you can shoot in front of a window also. The tape insertion and ejection system is fully automatic and works only with power on. I like this feature the way the compartment comes up and opens automatically and how it goes back. Thats the coolest feature. There is also a range of languages to select from and the lcd viewver, TFT screen works fine if you see it from the front and not from sides. Overall this is the best camera with so many features the only thing lagging is the focus on doing digital zoom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly great!
