Great Lens for the Price!!
If you are looking for a fun lens, for wide-angle shots, you could not do better.This lens comes with a longer warranty than the competitive brands, a lens hood (which some brands do not), and presents no compatibility problems with either my Minolta 5000i or Maximum 5. The range is very functional, with standard wide angle working well at 28mm, and the availability of some very interesting " special effects", if desired, with close-ups at the wider 19mm range. Vivitar 28-300 for Nikon is very good for me.
I have a Nikon camera F-60 with Vivitar28-300 Series one zoom lens and BOWER UV coated filter since 12/1999. " They" always give the SHARP pictures for us ( myself and my community ). I'm the main photographer for my Vietnamese community. And my people has been satisfied with the photographs from my Nikon F-60 + Vivitar lense 28-300 andBOWERUVCOATEDFILTER.
Vivitar 28-300 lens for Nikon AF
We own this lens for several years using it on Nikon F70. I was very disappointed with the over-all quality (esp. sharpness) of the lens. Tamron 28-200 lens is supposed to be also on the "lower" end of the quality scale - I tried it once and WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE compared to the 28-300. In other word: even the much critized Tamron 28-200 is better. Very likely a 28-300 even with reasonable compromise would unreasonably stretch the budget and perhaps the OEM of Vivitar (Vivitar does not have his lens factory) did the best they could for that money. I am curious, how good or bad is the 28-300 offering from Tamron. The Vivitar Series 1 IMHO does not deserve the "Series 1" name. I am affraid, in order to cover a long range with better quality one would still need 2 or even 3 lens.

Not for action photography
I'm going to state up front that I haven't used this 3x teleconverter.I have no idea whether it has acceptable optical quality or not.The idea of a 3x teleconverter sounds very promising and nifty, but there is a large tradeoff involved.If you use this teleconverter, the effective aperature of the lens you are using will go up be three stops.This makes for eight times less light entering the camera lens, resulting in shutter speeds that are eight times slower than the lens would achieve without this teleconverter.

I have a two Minolta SLR cameras.An STi and a QTi.I broke the lens on the first and bought the second because it cost almost as much to buy a replacement lens as it did to just buy a new camera.At this price, I can replace the original lens and have two cameras.Read more
