great night shots
Camera is way better than the sony HC1. Night shooting is great and colors appear natural and there is not much noise or smudging of colors. Would recommend it in a heartbeat. My 37 inch 1980x1080 LCD becomes an window when I hook up this camera to it. Great buy!

Wow
I just recently purchased this camera, and haven't had a chance to use it professionally yet. I did use it to shoot a school event for my daughter. I shot with two cameras and the picture quality of the fx1 was beautiful(actually too good to edit in with the other camera's shots). I will definitely be buying a second one soon!! Only for the serious videographer this camera would be overkill for someone looking to shoot home videos.

No USB Port!
This camcorder can not be used to record direct to your computer or any of the new dvd recorders.You have to record first to video tape then be able to connect your VCR to a dvd recording device.Very disappointed.How hard can it be for Sony to add the USB port?Even my $100 digital camera has a USB port.
Good enough.
This is your basic video camera. I'd say it's good for those who just need a video camera for occassional video recording. It has the basic features, with NightShot as an additional bonus. The picture quality isn't as great as I thought it would be (it's a bit grainy on my 36" WEGA), it doesn't record in stereo, and I wish it could hook up on my computer, but there's no USB port. I guess for the price you pay, it's expected. I'd recommend it if you're not really looking for something too hi-tech. I wish I could've gone with something better, maybe the next model up, but hey, it gets the job done.

I want to marry this camcorder!
Everything about this camera is amazing to me. I originally read that there is a problem with this model of camcorder with the screen blanking out after 1 or 2 years of use. I haven't seen any signs of that happening so far. I love this. Being a college kid it gets banged up on occasion, but my Sony seems to have held up to the challenge.

SWANN Wide-Angle Cam
This is a good all-around indoor camera.It uses an RCA connection, so if you are plugging into a DVR that uses the CCTV-style connection, you will need an adapter.I got the adapter at Radio Shack for a few bucks.The "wide-angle" lens was wider than standard, but a bit dissapointing for me.I got around this by moving the camera back until I could see what I needed to monitor.Overall, this is a great little camera for the price. ... JVC Does Not Stand Behind Their Products - JVC Lemoncorder
I agree with the many other users who have experienced the "Condensation, Operation Paused" defect on their JVC GR-XXX. Despite numerous others reporting this problem, JVC says its not a recognized problem. I would disagree - it is a recognized problem, but its your problem, not theirs.

Pretty good camera for trips, you need a better battery though
The quality is awesome, the ergonomics is just super (the four way stick in the LCD for starters), the transfer capabilities are nice (just plug it in to ANY PC and it becomes an external hard drive with video files, although you have to rename the .MOD to .MPG), and the zoom/frame rate is great. (Upto 32X optical and .5-4000 fps - this is really good for shooting as you like).

Great Camera...Onlyif can get the drivers to work!
This camera is exceptional.I am not going to go into it all but I can tell you it's clear, colors are true, and night vision pretty darn good.The resolution is much better than a PC camera.The biggest problem is that this is not USB capable, thereforeyou have to plug it into a PCI card.It is a hassle trying to get the software to notice this device...I'm using a PC-DVR-4 Card & software and they do not talk well together.Once you do get it to work, don't try to uninstall the software, or your hassles start all over again.They need to develop the software and plug & play behind this which is the biggest disappointment of all. ... A l'il sumpthin' to generally consider...
Frankly, I like my MG30. The only thing that gives me pause is its propensity to physically generate heat to the point of becoming uncomfortable to hold. This is a well known problem within the JVC line itself. (Much like Honda cars and bikes having BAD RINGS. They've known forever - but they just never correct it...)
What Were They Thinking
Other people have covered the good aspects of this camcorder - light weight, no tapes/discs to mess with, pretty good menu.However, these are easily outweighed by the lack of thought by JVC's engineers; and to add insult to injury, the downfall of this camcorder hinges on the very feature that is supposed to be it's selling point - storing video files on a hard drive (and not other media).
Greatest camcorder ever!
I read all the reviews and have to say I have no idea what they are talking about. Sure you need a computer thats not 3 years old and up to date software like anything thats new these days. But just imagine NEVER having to buy tapes or CD's again! And the picture is always prefect! I am in love with this camcorder. Its like my forth one and I had the best DVD camcorder, there is just no way to compair them. Inside, outside, in the sun, in the dark are all a great picture. My sister used it for her sons birthday , now she bought one of her own and loves it as much as I do. And all the people having issues transfering video files or pictures to anything, hmmm, I dont know but it takes me 5 to 10 minutes to sort and then i just burn them. Unreliable
Don't waste your time on this junk.Mine blew up just out of warranty with a tape loading problem.Repairing is almost as expensive as purchasing a new model.

For USD399, you get good quality video and digital stills. PC Magazine review this as one of the highest resolution camcorder [...]. DVSpot also give this camcorder good review. Included battery life is short. But you can look in Amazon for JVC VUA228KIT Camcorder Starter Kit for GRD33US/72US/93US/200US/230US & GRDV500which has 4 hour battery, MiniDV tape, and case and it only cost you USD30 (after huge discount).

works ok but...
This camera is easy to operate but when it comes to getting the footage on the camera turned into a DVD it is not so easy. I am a fairly comfortable and experienced computer user but not an expert. The software included has very inadequate instructions. For example it says "never plug the camera into the computer while the camera is turned on". Later it says "don't ever turn the camera on or off with it plugged into the computer". Hmmm, this makes it awfully hard to transfer files! An email to JVC customer service received no reply!
Great little camera, but night shooting a little grainy.
I really like the long record time of this camera.I bought this camera for my trip to Europe, and it was great.It's small, yet powerful.I could record off and on for days before having to dump the movies on my laptop.I would suggest getting a second battery, preferably the 3 hour.The 5 hour is almost the size of the camcorder itself, and made it heavier.

An average camera with an infinite recording time
I bought this to replace my broken Digital8 Sony camcorder and the same sales guy who sold me the Sony 6 years ago advised me to buy this JVC, on one single criterion: the near-infinite hard disk drive storage. This was almost the only claim that was actually fulfilled.

I ordered this item on 12-16-2005.I was informed by Alhambrabooks on 12-21-2005 that this item was unavailable, would not be shipped and that my account would be credited.To date, 1-20-2006, a month later, the charge remains on my account and has not been credited as promised.This does not seem like a very good business practice. Its is the same thing
The Amercian Idol video maker is the same thing as digital blue only with different software and a microphone. And since it is made by the same company as Digital Blue, how could that be unlawful. It is a brilliant marketing scheme from the manufacturer to sell all the leftover models from last year with a new logo and and additional features, that make kids ask for it for xmas.
