5-0 out of 5 stars I love this camera
I love this camera. It is one of the only manual cameras still being manufactured.Digital-electronic monstrosities (which are unbelievably expensive) simply cannot produce images like a simple manual camera with a good 50mm lens.

Cosina is a "behind the scenes" Japanese manufacturer of many cameras and lenses, and have made cameras for many branded as high-end and entry level models for decades. If you purchases an SLR, or if you've amassed a collection 3rd party lenses, good chance you have something made by Cosina but didn't know it.

5-0 out of 5 stars From the Jungles to the Desert, Great Camera
Greetings, Hope this finds everyone to be in good health and happiness.I traded my minolta slr w/2 lenses and flash for the 3800N back in 2002 and have enjoyed it ever since. This camera is used primarily for B/W as well as continued learning of the fundamentals of photography and creative ideas. I have taken it through five different jungles in SE Asia, in the desert, and across fifteen states with no problems. If you have an idea of a grunts life, it isn't easy or clean. This camera takes the abuse and still performs they way it should.Maintain proper care and protection from the environment with all the accessories available and you 've got a great artistic kit at little cost. Have fun with this camera and be artistic.
5-0 out of 5 stars It Compares with the Best of Them
For the past 30 years, I have been a devoted Nikon user, though I have a Pentax K1000 and assorted Pentax lenses that were given to me as a gift about 20 years ago.The K1000 was misplaced in a move a few years ago (I'm sure it will turn up one day when I finally get to clean out my attic), and I was longing to use a fully manual SLR.I took a chance with the Vivitar V3800N as the price was right and it came with a better warranty than a used K1000.It could also use all of my Pentax lenses which I had not misplaced.I have put this camera through the wringer and it has come through on every occasion. For those who complain that the Vivitar lens quality is lacking in quality and performance (which I find not to be the case), there is an ample supply of new and used Pentax lenses which produce results that rival my Nikons.I frequently use the Vivitar lens and am delighted by its performance. The camera is built solidly and performs solidly. Results are consistent and I never worry about damaging it as it is not costly to replace. So, if you ever have the feeling that you want to be a true photographer rather than the caretaker of a small computer that takes photographs for you, I highly recommend the V3800N.Indeed, Nikon thinks so highly of it that they sell it as the FM-10 and will continue to have it manufactured for them by Cosina as one of two 35mm SLR's they will keep on the market in the digital age, the other being the Nikon-manufactured F6.The Vivitar is a well-made bargain that delivers!!Buy it and enjoy it. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars If I could, Zero stars!! - DVR 310 is this the worst buy ever???
I bought this cheap and nasty "thing" and was utterly speechless to test this out before xmas, and the alkaline batteries (supplied) drained within a minute! (eh?) yes folks - it cannot do what it is upposed to do!. Avoid this at all costs unless you like hassle and losing money, by buying a proper product. Vivitar must be getting hard up. I used to use Vivitar lenses in my SLR (excellent quality) and flashguns (again excellent!). So imagine the suprise in store with this lump of you know what!.
1-0 out of 5 stars Vivitar DVR-310 is a waste of your money!!!
I bought this camera, my first video and digital camera, in the hopes of taking wonderful movies of my honeymoon & my new stepson and I feel cheated.I could have taken my money and thrown it out the window. The LCD screen doesn't let enough light in to see when you try to take the picture. And the video camera?Even worse. It's for outdoor use only unless you have florescent lighting in your house. It's impossible to take a good picture. You have to try and line it up 5 times to get it right and by that time you've totally drained the 2 AA batteries that it runs on.I called Vivitar and they wouldn't even hear of refunding me my money despite the fact that I'm so unhappy so if anyone has any idea what I should do with a camera that I don't want, please post it here cause at this point it's a paperweight.Don't waste your money on it like I did. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Eats batteries, totally unreliable in cool temperatures, does not save date.
This little camera does fine in warm/hot temperatures and has great picture quality, but runs through batteries at an unbelievable pace. Also, you're lucky if you can get 3 or more pictures if the ambient temperature is below 40 degrees. Another annoying feature that I wish I had known about is that there is no memory battery, meaning that everytime you change the main batteries (which is quite frequently) the camera totally resets and you have to set the date all over again. This is a pain. All that being said, I took this camera on a trip to Taiwan recently and I was very pleased with the pictures it produced. It's not the best, and could be improved in several ways, but it's not the worst 5MP camera out there either, especially for the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Important for first time digital camera buyers!
Do NOT use AA batteries! Even on the reviews where people have given this camera 5 stars, they've commented on battery life. I repeat, do NOT use AA batteries, not even if they're rechargeable. Instead, take $15 and make an investment in a couple of CRV3 batteries (don't quote me... I'm not 100% positive if that's the right collection of letters and numbers for the type of battery I'm referring to, do your research). The CRV3's are like 2 AAs in one and are Li-ion (Lithium Ion) batteries, unlike your typical alkaline AAs. A two pack of CRV3s will cost you around $15, but are well worth it, especially since you've already or are planning to make a several hundred dollar investment in a digital camera. Not to mention the fact that youwill quickly go through $15 worth of AAs if you don't take this advice. But do not get the new rechargeable CRV3's... there have been reports of the batteries having power surges that have damaged cameras. The battery life is infinitely longer on these batteries because these are the batteries built for taking the kind of abuse digital camera's (and other high end equipment) put them through. I've been using my Vivicam V3935 constantly for the past month or so with my first CRV3 battery, and the battery indicator on the camera is still full.

1-0 out of 5 stars Vivitar Should Be Cast Into the Deepest Pit of Hell
Being a camera aficionado and collector, I picked this up at Walmart to play around with.Even THAT'S not possible... see, there's no support for Mac OS X.Vivitar's website claims no driver is needed for OS X, that an icon appears on the desktop in Classic Mode. That's a cynical, damnable LIE!Until some similarly-wronged Code Warrior writes a driver for this, I can't affirm to you that the dynamic range of this sweetheart sucks eggs, but that's what I've been told.

2-0 out of 5 stars Will Wipe Memory Card
This is basically a digital point and shoot, but IT DELETED 250 PICTURES FROM MY MEMORY CARD WITHOUT WARNING, and I lost all of my pictures from a 2 month backpacking trip. Be careful, and do not insert a memory card that already has pictures on it, I think that is how they got deleted.

3-0 out of 5 stars I currently own this Camera
I bought this camera on sale for $80.00. The only thing I don't like about it is it takes 10-12 seconds between pictures before the camera will let you take another picture. That makes picture taking of children or animals quite difficult. Another flaw is the delay once you push the shutter, it may or may not take the picture you intended to take.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Little Camera
This is a good low-priced digital camera. It takes great pictures, is easy to use, and is very compatible with my computer. Its small size makes it easy to take anywhere, and the color and sharpness of the shots are very good.I'm pleased and recommend it as a low-end digital. I doubt I'll even upgrade for some time as it serves my amateur photographer needs just fine.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great 1st digital camera
My daughter just turned 10 but has always expressed an interest in photography. I have a very good digital camera and have let her take a few pictures with it in the past, and although she takes a great picture, I always worry about her dropping my camera and smashining it to peices. I decided to buy her a digital camera for her 10th birthday because she is very responsible, but I didn't want to pay a lot of money because after all she is only 10. I was suprised at how good the quailty of the pictures were, plus it is so easy to use...in fact, my daughter read the instructions by herself and actually set it up with no help. I also like the fact that it takes regular batteries, because with kids they never tell you something needs recharging until it is too late. The 3.3 mp is great because at the age of 10 I don't think we will blow up pictures larger than 8x10, and the quailty is still great. One downside is it is a little heavier than I thought it would be, but on the plus side, at least it won't be easy to lose. (It's not really heavy, but in today's world where everything is downsized, it is not the size of a micro-chip either). I was annoyed with 35mm cameras where I spent so much money on developing pictures, and not even knowing what I was in for until after I paid for developing. Sometimes my daughter would find a pretty rock she liked and she would snap away. With a digital camera, not only do I have the option to download only the pictures we like, but I also have the option to delete pictures that didn't turn out well. Overall, this is a great 1st camera and I would even buy it to have as a spare 2nd camera. ... Read more

Very quickly, this camera is a great value and is capable of taking some pretty decent shots, but should be purchased strictly for the novice user or casual computer operator. This is NOT a camera for anyone planning to take frequent pictures or who is in need of a durable digital camera.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awsome, for its price
The Vivitar Vivicam35 is an awesome camera for its cost. I got it for 20$ Its light and can be used as a web cam! My dad also has a expensive digital camera and can take almost the same quality pictures but doesent have a screen to show them and you cant zoom.

3-0 out of 5 stars DOES work with a Mac! Not that Vivitar knows that...
I originally wrote that this camera doesn't work with Macs but it seems like a solid product for 25 bucks. Has a built-in flash and a picture counter and a dozen different modes.

4-0 out of 5 stars this is a great camera
I BOUGHT THIS CAMERA 2 YRS AGO AND IT IS GREAT THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE IS I DONT HAVE THE DISK TO INSTALL IT ON MY NEW COMPUTER.I LOVE IT THE PICTURES ARE GREAT. I TAKE THEM AND PRINT THEM OUT...

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera, Low Battery Life
This is a great camera. The picture quality is excellent and the camera itself has a cool design. It also has a nice TFT LCD screen and a joystick. Unfortunately the battery life is very low. With the screen, the battery life is only 10-15 minutes! Without the screen, the battery life is about 15-30 minutes.

1-0 out of 5 stars The CameraUnreliable
I purchased the camera from HSN.com after watching the impressive demonstration.I it worked well at first.I added 256 MB flashcard and it got very quirkey.I sent it back and they replaced it with the same result.I used a different smaller flashcard and it worked OK for a short while. Then it started having problems capturing the shot. The shots would be fuzzy or completely black if they did register having taken. This is a camera I would advise everyone to keep away from based on my experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera !!!
If you're looking to print upto 5"x7" pictures, this is a great camera.Takes very good pictures.I have mine for a year now.Always reliable.Just get a photo editing and organizing software, and rechargable batteries, and you're good to go.

1-0 out of 5 stars A basic throw away digital camera
My father bought 3 of these cameras in April 2004 and only one works periodically. They eat batteries as do all digital cameras so make sure you have plenty on hand if you don't buy rechargable batteries. The cameras all worked so awesome for the first few months.I used mine the most and it was the first to die.The pictures start coming out blurry and then sometimes the camera would turn on and then shut off or would not come on at all.I lost the screen on the top first and then the lcd screen went wacky.I have pictures of my newborn stuck in the camera and am unable to retrieve them.If you want to spend $100.00-$189.00 on a throw away digital camera then this one is for you!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Little beauty
My first digital camera was a Sony Mavica, the photos were OK but after a few yrs I started to get disapointed in the quality. While in Walmart I seen this 5 MP Vivitar for only $147. I got it along with some batteries and a 128 SD card all for $200. Ive had the camera for almost a year now and Im just blown away with the quality of the photos, sunrises are unbelieable. Its always worked, very rugged and durable, and yea the thing is battery hungry, so I buy my AA's in bulk and also hav the rechargables. The movie mode I dont use it much I hav a mini DV for that. I was a little embarassed cuz its not a name brand high dollar unit, but if you can liv with that, its a great little camera and how u gonna beat that price? You cant!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera for the price
I just received this camera and love it. It is small and light-weight, and takes great pictures. It also uses SD cards up to 512 MB so you have plenty of storage for photos.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty decent
I've had this camera for more than 2 years and it has been pretty good to me. Takes really good pictures on sunny afternoons, but could do a little better at night. Recommended for beginners!
2-0 out of 5 stars FAIR-Not for quality purposes
This camera is basically good for mid quality family pictures and similar shots, you can't expect much from a non-optical zoom/ 3.3 mp camera, PLEASE!!! Anybody who tells you how great the camera is, never had anything better on their hands,LETS BE HONEST it is not a bad camera but not a smart choice if you are looking for quality. It's actualy a pretty handy and easy to use camera, not too many features and cheap, so there you go...if you need something not too fancy, cheap and you are not expecting some awarded National geographic pictures from it, this is your camera.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst By Far...
This is the worst camera I've ever owned. Picture quality is average, however I have to replace the batteries everytime I use the camera. I purchased the recommended batteries which gave even worse results than standard AA's. After taking a few pictures the camera will "hang" on a pic. and destroy the image.
