5-0 out of 5 stars Good first camcorder
Given that this is my first real camcorder, outside of the digital cameras I own that support 20 second video clips, I have little to compare it to.That being said, I've seen people with stacks of DV tape that they never convert to DVD, and consequently - never view again.I received my Gigashot from Amazon yesterday and was for the most part very pleased. It took very little time to understand how to use, the functions and menu items were relatively self-explanatory.I'd give Toshiba an A- for the design and ease of use; within five minutes, I was able to shoot a few clips, view on the LCD screen, hook up to my TV and computer to play back videos.

5-0 out of 5 stars People are... frustrating. 5 stars for what the camera is meant to be.
There are ways to get around the low light problem on this camera using the manual option and adjusting the brightness/contrast. You can also switch a few other things around. I don't know what they are exactly, but they have worked for me in solving the low res problem. Anyway, the battery problem also has a solution. NIMH rechargable batteries have lasted me all day and then some for several filled cards. I use 64 mb cards. I have 2500 mah NIMH batteries. I use a plug for the camera when I upload the images to my computer to conserve the time I can use shooting pictures with the batteries.
1-0 out of 5 stars don't bother
I am so relieved to see other bad reviews about this camera. This camera was given to me as a gift, but I have never liked it.The picture quality is awful and it is bulky and hard to handle. There are a few ways to get around some of the problems, but they too time consuming when you just want a camera to take a few great candid shots.Life is too short to use a poorly designed camera.
1-0 out of 5 stars Model PD3300 Digital Camera
I have owned serveral Toshiba products ie TV-VCR-DVD player; This is my first digital camera. This camera is the most aggrevating electronic piece of junk I have ever owned. I have called Toshiba service (a waste of time) switched to other S/D cards and batteries. The camera works when it wants to, quits when it wants to, and doesn't work most of the time. When my $3600.00 Cinama series TV had a problem they sent someone to fix it; a few hundred for one of their cameras wont even get you a return call if you have a question. I am now the proud owner of a Fuji S3100 (great camera)which I purchase from Amazon.com(which is a good company to deal with) the PD3300 sets on my desk as a paper weight and reminder to never buy something with the Toshiba name on it. I hope I saved you some grief and money.Sincerely [...] ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars pretty good camera
I found this camera to take good pictures for a 4.2 MP, and I love the short videos it can record. It's user-friendly. Mine has worked well for about three years now. I am getting ready to get a new camera, however, and I've decided to go with a Canon. Canon has a much better reputation for good customer service, and that is important to me. With my Toshiba, I was just fortunate not to have anything break down.

3-0 out of 5 stars it hurts so much to not use this camera
I had this camera for about a year and a half, it took AMAZING pictures, and was really easy to use, especially since it was my first digital camera. Then all of a sudden it stopped working. The zoom wouldn't go out anymore and I kept getting a message that the lens cap was on. I was very disappointed, so I tried to contact Toshiba about getting it fixed, I was even willing to pay, they wanted me to ship it to the Midwest somewhere to see if it could even be fixed. When I contacted the place to see how to go about this all they wanted me to pay $50 just to get it looked at before I even knew what was wrong. Toshiba was really no help at all and it hurt a lot, I was in pain for days, lots of pain in the side especially... So my camera had a funeral. I miss it a lot because it did take really swell pictures, and I bought it when it was around $500, so imagine how sad I feel to see its $200 now! I would say, don't buy from Toshiba, they don't even seem to shed a tear for all your pain if something breaks.

2-0 out of 5 stars Unforgivable support and service policies
I've had this camera for almost 2 years. Although it has never really perfomed as well as I'd hoped, the biggest complaint is in their support. 4-0 out of 5 stars Wide array of features, competent performance-good value.
The Toshiba PDR-M71 is a "jack of all trades--mater of none" sort of package.I got one fpr my workplace as I needed a relatively inexpensive unit that provided a wide array of features and provided at least decent performance on all counts.5-0 out of 5 stars Good Value

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Starter Camera
This is my first digital camera and I have owned this camera for about 3 years now and really like it except for a few things.

3-0 out of 5 stars beware
This is a fine camera.Compact, user friendly, takes ideal pictures. However, all the nice points are completely spoiled by the fact that it uses a PRODUCT-SPECIFIC BATTERY which is near impossible to find (only on the internet by the way) and expensive to boot.To make matters worse, it is essential to have at least one spare battery.I've had the camera 18 months to date, and my original battery is all but toast.

4-0 out of 5 stars small, lightweight, great quality, but some issues
This is my first digital camera, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I really love it!Digital zoom, however, is completely worthless and ruined several pics on my first try--including a bear and cub shot that would have been great without it.I turned that option off.I have since talked to other digital camera owners who say digital zoom is worthless--makes photos come out pixelated and blurry--why even include it if it doesn't work???The 3x optical zoom is nice, though. The photos this camera takes are great, even at "normal" resolution--at super fine resolution they are fantastic, but memory eaters, so I usually keep it on "normal."I didn't think I would use the video option when I first got it, but I use it all the time--making me wish I had shopped around for a camera which would include sound and make videos of any length up to memory or battery limitations!(This camera will only take 15 second QuickTime videos with no sound--even if you want it shorter.)Another issue I have with this camera is the battery--apparently it is rare and not available anywhere (including the store where I purchased the camera or Amazon.com)!... The battery is the biggest limitation on how many photos I can take--I bought a 64MB memory card when I bought the camera and have never been able to fill it up before the battery needs recharging. One of the main reasons I bought this model was its small size and light weight to take backpacking, but without a spare battery, it doesn't last long.If I can get some spare batteries, I will be good to go!All in all, however, I am satisfied and have been enjoying my new toy immensely!! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Dial broke
I had this camera for about a year when the dial broke.Of course, repairing this is far more costly than a new camera, so here I am.I found the camera did take good quality pictures, but if it isn't going to work after a year, then what's the point?

1-0 out of 5 stars The dial broke...
I've had it for a year and half... it has it's good, and bad sides, but 2 days ago, the dial just fell off... upon inspection I've discovered that it was made to brake... which was supported by numerous reports of the same problem... don't buy this camera, or any other from toshiba...

2-0 out of 5 stars Who needs AC Adapter?
I bought this camera in 2001 and it's dead now. When I just got it, it sarted giving me problems with batteries(kept showing "low batteries"), so I bought AC Adapter to avoid this problem(I used it indoor only), and that same problem came back again 2.5 years later, "low batteries" with AC Adapter. It made noise, kept blinking until went completely dead. I did take same good photos with this camera, but since it's dead now, I have AC Adapter that's perfectly fine and doesn't go with any other camera. I payed $60, if anyone wants it, I'll sell it for $25. Email me: DukyTheDog@yahoo.com ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, dependable, affordable.
I've owned this camera for more than a year, and use it several times a week. It's easy to use, very dependable (I run it with rechargable AA batteries) and the price, even when I initially bought it, was right. It's even more affordable now.I recommend the Toshiba PDR 3320 as an excellent entry-level camera.

3-0 out of 5 stars Plus and Minus
Good:4-0 out of 5 stars Good quality, reasonable price
While a little on the chunky side, this camera does a really good job. Changing the image size and quality on the fly is very easy, so those shots that you will not need print resolution, you can switch to save space on your smartmedia card. The highest resolution will print out at 6x4 inches, with about 300dpi resolution -- just fine for snapshots. And with each image at the size weighing in at about 1MB, a 32MB card would hold about 32 images. My only beef so far with the camera is that the delay between pushing the shutter button and when the camera takes a picture is rather long, so it often misses some great moments. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Con: Flash Pro: Great outdoor photos.
This camera takes great outdoor pictures-couldn't be happier. However, the flash is pretty much useless after one picture, unless you wait 2 or three minutes. I have printed absolutely fantastic 8.5x11 inch photos of various outdoor scenes; cannot distinguish from a regular 35mm camera photo!! Some of the photos of active porpoises, whales, etc. at sea. Came out great!5-0 out of 5 stars Better than expected
Yes indeed, this little camera has everything in it--more or less for some one who not just likes to play around but rather likes to use it for business as well as in a semi-professional way.5-0 out of 5 stars Discontinued?? WHY?
I got this camera because I needed something with a flash-sync terminal (for pro studio flash equipment) and the ability to attach filters.

4-0 out of 5 stars 3 Years and still going
I actually purchased this camera while I was vacationing in Hong Kong in early 2002.The touch screen is a nice bonus, but it has done surprisingly nice 4x6 and 8x10 prints from my Epson (Stylus740) printer without "pixelating" or grainy distortion.I am printing on Epson photo paper. The main problem I've started to have is the flash gets stuck when popping open for shooting. Not a major killer, as I've taken this camera to HI, AK, and too many parties and last minute "crazy airfare deals" to remember.I've tried the camera in all three ISO modes, got some stunning Alaska wilderness pictures in Sepia and B&W color modes, and have taken most of my shots with "High Quality" picture mode.I've had to replace the battery once so far, and have been able to get more than 300 shots on a 256MB SD card.

This camera is just amazing! All my friend who owns 3 and 4 megapixels camera are just looking at my camera and want it. I was afraid at first of purchasing this camera because of the lack of reviews but it is just such a smart purchase. How many camera out there have TOUCH SCREEN LCD ??? This must be about the only one that has it. There is a paintbrush tool in the camera so you can take notes directly on your pictures(recorded as a different file) and you can draw whatever you want. The picture quality is very good in most circumstances. The only problem I get is red eye which I quickly eliminate using a photo editing software. The battery is amazing and can last for over 150-200 pictures before recharging. Downloading picture to computer is very easy. The sliding cover protect the lense and is pretty cool. They could improve on the start-up time but it is ok if you know how to use to camera well. I am definitely happy with my camera and I am about to take my 2000th picture with it without having a single problem yet. I don't own a case and always carry it around in my pocket because of the tiny size. I highly suggest you getting this camera, the touch screen and picture quality is just amazing!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Starter Camera
This is a good Camera if you just want point and click. No having to worry about file formats (only does jpg) and focusing .If you need to do things manualy buy another camera. The LCD is easy to use and the internal battery is nice touch since you don't have to buy batteries. The main drawback is if you forget to charge it you can't just buy batteries. The software is easy to use both on the camera and supplied for the pc. It also supports a sd card which is really nice as well. Like I said before this camera is for those of us who just want to take quick pictures when were out without much hassle.Overall I am happy because that is all I want out of a camera. Much better then buying disposables or a cheap 35mm camera. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great camera!
I recently bought this camera off EBay and couldn't be happier for the price I gave! The pictures come out so clear most of the time, occassional blurry or discolored one but no big deal. Very easy to use, even my 7 year old can work this camera. Only problem I have with this camera at all is the delay for taking the picture. I didn't get the manual with the camera so maybe I have it set wrong or am doing it wrong (haha) but it takes a few seconds to take the picture, but well worth it for the quality in pictures for a 2.1 MP camera! Highly recommend!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Value
I bought this camera 3 months ago. It takes wonderful photos with very little bother. I use a card reader ... to download 128M of photos very fast. I have had no problem with Windows XP after downloading from the Toshiba website the updated drivers. The image qualities are excellent and the camera is easy to use. A great, practical camera at an affordable price.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for the money
I'm no image expert, but this seems to have pretty good image quality for the price. The batteries last pretty well when it comes to taking photos outside. The use of the flash will really diminish the battery life. My big gripe is that to transfer 128 Mb worth of pictures over USB without the AC adapter is impossible. The batteries will die on you, even new ones. So get the AC adapter!!! ... Read more
