Got a "pretty good" one on the second try. Poor quality control
I recently bought a Canon EOS Rebel XT digital SLR, intending to use some Sigma lenses I had for my old EOS 630, and was disappointed to find they wouldn't work on the Rebel and couldn't be upgraded. I picked up a couple of used Canon lenses which covered the range I needed, but still missed the versatility of my old Sigma 28-200mm.
This is all you need for everyday or travel
The 28-200 XR tamron lens is the only one you'll need for every day shots.I bought a rebel XT to take pics of my infant son.The 2 lenses that came with it 18-55 and a 70-300 zoom lense, where good, but who has time to switch chasing the kids around.So far I have taken some unbelievable pics with this lense.Dont hesitate to buy one, just make sure you look around for the best price.I got mine for under $[...].

Poor built with difficult stiff zomming.not truely 200, more like 160. reasonable fast and accurate focusing.soft wide open, but surprizingly sharp one stop down.bear in mind that is 5.6 at wide end, and around 7 at tele.very small.In good lighting, excellent lens for the money ... Read more

Outstanding Quality
I have used this lens with my Rebel 2000 and EOS-3. It's an excellent lens! The auto focus is fast and relatively quiet, the image quality is excellent. The best feature in my opinion is the large lens area, it captures lots of light. This is an A+ lens for the price.

I shot my first wedding using this lense, it performed outstanding.I am very satisfied and will continue using this lense with my Nikon D70s camera.

I have purchased two of these lenses (autofocus version) for our Nikon N-70.I dropped the first lens and something came loose.This is a superb lens.I studied the Modern Photography Magazine ratings to select this lens, which was/is the sharpest zoom lens in the 20-120 range.Not even Nikon or Canon can beat this lens for sharpness across the focal range.Spherical Aberration is marginally higher than an average lens with this focal range, so you wouldn't want to shoot professional architecture photos with this lens.Tamron makes a semi-pro lens with an F-2.8 across a similar zoom range, but it is no sharper than this lens. ... Great optics for money.Incredible warranty.Solid quality.
I purchased Tamron AF 70-300mm LD lens for Canon over a month ago. The first roll of film was a bit of disappointing. I liked colors but some pictures lacked sharpness (fuzzy). After that I purchased introduction photography book published by Kodak and read it. Gained knowledge was invalueable. I used tripod and Kodak Gold 200 color print film. Pictures were developed on 5x7 photographs at York Photo Labs. All pictures of second roll turned out very nice and sharp (especially considering 200 film on 5x7 pictures). I even made picture of caterpillar in macro mode at 300 mm and f/8 and this turned out very nice as well. All pictures (including ones taken at focal length of 300 mm) turned out very nice. Ultra telephoto lens is demanding but wide-angle lens is forgiving. You have to consider it when you use telephoto lens. You need solid technique; otherwise, you might be disappointed if you take handheld pictures with lower shutter speeds. It is pretty hard to make sharp pictures even at 1/250 shutter speed and 200mm. Tripod works well though. The larger focal length the harder it gets. I would not feel comfortable with anything slower than 1/250s. Some people mentioned that f/8 gives better results. That is true pretty much for any lens. But at this aperture you need tripod when using ISO 100 films unless you are in sun. If you can't use tripod but you want to use this lens then you might use faster films (IS0 200 or ISO 400) to reduce camera shake. Build quality is good and great warranty gives you peace of mind. Customer service is quick too (don't worry my lens is not broken but I had some technical questions to Tamron). This lens is also sold as Nikon AF 70-300mm ED and users seem to enjoy it as well (even though they pay 100$ more). Focusing is kind of slow, especially in low-light conditions and at larger focal lengths (i.e. 300 mm). You can't blame lens for it because camera does focusing. At this low amount of light and narrow angle (7 degrees - camera gets not much lights through lens). It is not Tamron but nature of telephoto lens. This is why camera haunts in low-light conditions. Lens comes with lens hood (lens shade) so you don't have to buy one for this lens. Overall, I am very pleased with pictures and expect even better pictures on ISO 100 films and 4x6 prints. Use tripod as much as possible. Also cable release is recommended to reduce camera shake. Great lens for the money. Period. ... Read more

Excellent choice for macro & closeups
This is an excellent choice if you're interested in close-up and macrophotography -- it's sharp corner-to-corner, and you get life-size photos down to the size of a large bug.Usually you end up focusing macro shots manually, and the Tamron manual focus ring travels about 270 degrees, giving lots of smooth fine-tuning capability.

Wish I had an "L"
Having that wide of a zoom range is certainly awesome, but the optics on this camera are very dissapointing. I frequently would have to bump up my aperature and sharpen in my computer to try to get more focus, becuase this lens has major problems with fuzziness and crispness in all situations. My basic canon lens 28-90 has much clearer pictures and even those need sharpening.

This is a great lens and unless you have the $4,000 Canon you will be quite pleased.However, for the digital Canon get the Tamron 28-300mm f3.5-6.3 XR Di LD Aspherical Macro Ultra Zoom Digital Lens for Canon SLR Cameras instead.The Di is designed specifically for the Digital Canon and is the same money.
This is a Lens You Will Use
I have the older version of this lens.It is not the world's best piece of glass, but it goes everywhere with me. It's relatively light-weight and does what it is supposed to do. Not spectacularly.But when I travel, I don't want anything heavy or fussy.I take this lens and a wide angle (to get complete buildings or monuments in the picture) and that's it. You don't look conspicuous carrying a big photographer's bag.
