5-0 out of 5 stars Please Get Real!!! Don't expect to get Orange juice from lemons!!!
When you buy a product that is designed and meant to fulfill certain needs, just expect the best performance out of those features.
4-0 out of 5 stars Nice camera. Not so good at night
The camera is one of the best considering the price and the size of it. The only problem I found is that it has not a light, so you will need to buy the external one, if not all the shots that you do at night will be very dark.

4-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality when record on MS duo
I have own this camcorder for 6 month

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice camera but...
I have had this camera for about 2 years. It's been great all the way. But recently one of my friends dropped it. The lens is having a hard time retracting back into the camera, and the LCD screen only works sometimes. It does power on and off though. I was wondering if anyone had experience in this field and could tell me if it was simply broken for good or if it could be repaired some way. If you could email me at lafever5@hotmail.com or post a review I would appreciate it.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very good consumer grade digital camera
If you are just an amateur photographer that is either finally switching from analog to digital or just want a decent camera to take on family vacations or school projects, this is a great camera. It is small, lightweight, and does just about anything you could possibly need it to do.It won't take pictures of hummingbirds feeding across a forest bed, but it will take a decent photo of the grand canyon. The quality of the 3x optical zoom is really good, but the picture is sacrificed slightly as you try to artifically enhance it with the digital zoom. The battery life is good enough to take on extended trips from your hotel or on a hike without having to carry around a charger or spare batteries. If you plan on taking lots of high quality large photos, you will need to get a larger memory stick (64 MB will work, 128 MB even better), but the memory stick it comes with will be enough to photograph your child's birthday party as long as you download the photos onto your computer afterwards. At 3 MegaPixels, this camera will pick up individual hairs on a persons head, but you won't be able to clearly define the flea sitting in the hair. There are 5 MegaPixel cameras out there, but at the consumer level there is really no point in spending the money on one (5 MP won't come in handy unless you are student taking pictures through a microscope or a telescope) All around, while Sony's camera lenses may not compare with Canon or Olympus, Sony makes up for it with their superior knowledge of how to make a great consumer digital device and turn it into a decent digital camera. It is a great value for the price.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent camera... has its drawbacks...
Sony has just about infiltrated every electronic marketplace possible and the digital camera sector is no exception. When I was researching to buy a camera, it came down to the Canon A40 vs. the Sony DSC P71. I went with the Sony because it was smaller and I didn't want to carry around the larger Canon. I wonder now if I made a mistake as Canon cameras are constantly being raved about.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars C:31:23 error
I've been getting the C:31:23 error message on CCD-TRV36 model.Bought this unit four years ago and used it rarely (max 60hrs).I have contact SONY several times. The off-shore tech support suggest I spend $200 and send this to Sony and they will fix it for me (all labor and no parts needed!)They probably have an easy fix for it and are not willing to post it on their web site. Why should they when they can make $200!I told tech supportI can buy a brand new digital one for $350 and it will defiantly not be a Sony brand.I have put in brand new Sony tape and brand new rechargeable battery and it did not fix this issue.

5-0 out of 5 stars Compact, convenient, and great battery life.
The camera really is easy to use and is loaded with features. The remaining battery life indicator is a GREAT feature. The special effects are fun to use. The night shot is cute but my use would be minimal.Overall, it is a very good camcorder.I would buy it again.

The Mavica line has always represented ease of use. All you do is shoot pictures, which are recorded onto a floppy, and then you put the floppy in your computer to get the images. No fussing with cables and drivers. The MVC-FD87 continues this excellent tradition. The 1.3 megapixel sensor captures images at a resolution of 1,280 x 960--perfect for prints up to4 by 6 inches. The 3x optical, 6x digital zoom provides more than enough zoom for most circumstances. A built-in flash provides red-eye reduction, auto, and fill modes. MGI software is provided for image manipulation for both the Mac and PC platforms. Also included in the box is a battery, power cable, AV cable, shoulder strap, and lens cap. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars What are you using it for?
I bought the FD87 thinking that I would never run out of media on long trips; I could always go buy more disks, or erase some shots. Unfortunately I didn't consider how inconvienient that would be.Lugging 40 floppy disks around Disney Land along with a bulky camera was not fun.Taking it skiing was a whole other pain in the rear. Another problem is the inherent unreliability of floppy disks.I have lost many shots due to disk errors.I liked the Mpeg mode when I bought it, until I discovered you cannot stop the camera once you begin recording. This is stupid. The camera takes good pictures, if your activity is taking pictures. Do not, however, buy this camera if you plan to take pictures while involved in any other activity. It is very impractical. There are two good points though. The battery lasts forever and the camera formats disks about 20 times faster than a PC.

1-0 out of 5 stars High price and questionable quality make this a bad choice
Don't waste your money on a Mavica.I bought an FD-87 less than a year ago and it's broken -- again.Imagine that you bought a brand new car ... and then three months later, you had to pay $...one-fifth of the car's value... for a repair. Then, seven months later, the car breaks down again, and you're told it will cost ...about one-third of the car's original retail cost... to fix it.Who in their right mind would pay over half the original cost of a new car for repairs in less than a year?(There's a word for a car like that -- it's called LEMON).3-0 out of 5 stars Sony MVC-FD87 Digital Camera

5-0 out of 5 stars My first camcorder and I love it
Okay, so I don't have a lot of prior experiance for comparison but this camera was easy to use right out of the box and the more I learn how to use it the better it gets. Some people have faulted its small size but I love the fact that I can slip it in my pocket. It takes good quality video and the stills have been okay. As long as you don't blow them up too much the stills are fine, as good as I've seen on a lot of other 3MP cams.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great little camera
I have had this camera for about 2 months now and really have had no problems with it. I love the size. It is small enough to fit in my jacket pocket while skiing. Takes awesome pictures movies, even during extremely bright conditions while skiing. I have used this camera indoors as well and find it to do a great job. I love being able to film in widescreen mode and play movies back on the widescreen tv. The pictures are extremely clear. My only problem is with the whole docking station / charging the battery issue. I would suggest buying an extra battery charger / ac cable or a travel charger so as not to have to unhook all of your cables from your computer every time you travel. Overall, I am very happy witht his camera and would definately buy another one if the need arose.

4-0 out of 5 stars A bit pricey, but a great camera overall.
The main reasons I purchased this camera were its size and its resolution. The camera is small enough to fit in my coat pocket, which means that I have it with me when I need it, and its 3MP resolution means that I can leave my digital camera at home.In fact, this camera has an F1.8 lens, which is as fast as you'll find on most full-size cameras, so it takes decent pictures indoors even without using the flash.

Sony's Mavica line of digital cameras has been revered for its quality optics and great batteries and especially for its use of floppy discs as a storage medium. But with the advent of higher and higher resolution CCD imaging sensors, the small capacity of floppies has made them a much less practical form of storage, requiring unacceptable levels of JPEG compression to fit even a few images on a disc. 5-0 out of 5 stars OK, I have the FD 95 and the CD 1000
I bought both 95 & 1000 used from Amazon.com! The primarydifference is one uses Diskettes (95) and the other uses mini CD's (CD1000).
5-0 out of 5 stars Still a great camera!!!!
I have had this camera for 4 years now and its still a great camera!!! I bought this camera new.5-0 out of 5 stars My what a large camera
Yes it's big. It's got a big 20X zoom lens and image stabilization. It's got big 8cm CDR's that permanently hold 160 or more 1600x1200 pictures. It also has a great battery that is good for hours of shooting. The LCD is a big 2.5 inches and the viewfinder allows framing good shots in bright sunlight. What I think is the most outstanding feature of this camera is the CDR format that allows endless picture taking without have to download to a computer. The blank CDR are cheap, I have found them for as little as $... each in tens. I think this camera will maintain a high resale value for years to come and become a coveted item. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars DANGER! PICTURE PACKAGE!
Neither Sony nor Pixela, the makers of the Picture Package software that comes with some Sony camcorders with mini-disks tells you that the software IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS XP, SERVICE PACK 2! It will crash your computer or not work properly. DO NOT install the Picture Package software if you have run Windows XP. If you have a DVD player on your computer, you can download the photos from the mini-disk without this dangerous software. Shame on Sony and Pixela for selling it to Windows XP users.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Product
This might be the worst product ever. What good is a camcorder if it is virtually impossible to get the video onto your computer. The support is horrid; the software is worse. Stay away from this one. Too bad really, most of my previous electronics equipment was made by Sony, but I will NEVER buy them again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice camcorder, some things to look out for.
The sony dcr hc32 is one of the sleekest cameras for it's price. However, I find the little touchscreen to be a tad difficult to use without a stylus (wonder why Sony couldn't include one). If you have stubby fingers like me, it takes a while to get used to the tiny menu buttons. Inevitably, the screen gets covered with thumbprints. I started using the top-eraser of a small pencil.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome camera perfoms perfectly never leave home without it
I purchased this camera as a cheaper option to any other camera with a $400 marine housing as I dont intend on diving 40 metres the u60 is perfect for my surfing pics and a bit of reef photography. I bought this 7 months ago for $380 and its the best money I've ever spent taking fishing and surfing and everywhere wet the images are crystal clear and I dont see any differnce in image quality between this and my 5 megapixel camera.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great....until it died.
This camera took 1407 photos before is stopped working. The problem is the viewfinder never shows what the camera is looking at and any photos taken will be black. It is as if the camera has a lens cap on it(this camera has no lens cap). The camera turns on, the screen show the menus, all buttons work and you can take a photo. (you'll see the green light flash on the display as it debates on using the flash and finally the camera will take the photo (including the flash going off))
5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for what it is.
Although the DSC-U60 has almost none of the features one has come to expect on a digital camera, it does what it does flawlessly. What it does is snap simple, hi-resolution photos in any environment without fail.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stopped working after third tape!
Was very pleased with the Sony TRV 38 until I got to about the middle of the 3rd tape. I had not used it in over 6 months and the next time I went to use it the recording screen and viewfinder was dark with a few gray streaks in it. It seems to play back o.k. On researching this problem I was staggered to find so many similar complaints. This is my first Sony (and it will be the last) I had a Panasonic for 8 years before this and it is still working. I have never abused this camera, never been to a beach with it, never used it in the rain etc. In fact it still looks like brand new!

4-0 out of 5 stars Blank LCD Screen and Viewfinder
I, too, experienced the dreaded blank screen on my TRV38 after only a year and a half of moderate use.I did some internet searching on the issue and discovered a site that mentioned Sony has acknowledged problems with the CCD chip in certain models built before 2004, the TRV38 being one of them and are offering to fix them for free, including shipping to and from a location of your choice.I then went made use of their excellent sony.com online chat support service and asked the moderator about the free repair deal. After a few troubleshooting questions, he acknowleded I appeared to qualify for the free repair service and provided me with the following site, http://esupport.sony.com/perl/news-item.pl?mdl=DCRTRV38&news_id=95.They appear to be making good on a known defect in their product and are to be commmended. Now, if only the local service centers would inform customers of this deal when they bring their cameras in for repair of this malady...naw, that's asking waaaaay too much!!By the way, aside from this problem, we've been very happy with this camera and actually bought a second one as a back up in case we had problems with the first one. With 2 kids, ages 2 1/2 and 4, to record precious moments of, it sure paid off in this case.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sony will repair FOR FREE
Same problem has been occurring with ALL Sony camcorders TRV19 through to TRV38.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the money
Over the past 35 years that I have been shooting video, it has come a long way. Comparing this to the RCA TK-76 "Minicam" that I shot tv news with on 3/4" in 1977 is fun: 1/100 the cost and double the scan lines. Oh, and 1/80th the weight not including the 40 pound recorder. At first, I didn't think something this size could work this well. I needed something quick and inexpensive to do video cuts for inserting into PowerPoint. My boss was too cheap to buy equipment for the department and I needed training tapes. So I just bought a HC40, shot the material, edited it on my HP a622n and inserted into the PP. And then did it about a dozen more times on other training material. It looks surprisingly well 10' tall through a 2000 lumen projector. A handheld or wireless mic is a must. At least a key light, if not key, base and fill are a must. My Lowell Totalight kit works perfectly with a few scrims. Not broadcast quality of today although surpassing broadcast quality of 30 years ago. Just border line for industrial or PP if lit well with good sound. I am satisfied with it and it travels well.

3-0 out of 5 stars THEY DON'T TELL YOU HOW TO GET THE USB STREAM
They give you this manual (actually two manuals). The first manual refers to you to the other manual. Then the other manual tells you in three places that the method for achieving USB stream (web cam and conferencing) is different depending on the model. That's all they tell you!Honest. The manual says "SET USB STREAM IN THE MENU SETTINGS OF YOUR CAMCORDER TO ON.The procedure of the menu settings varies depending on the model."Well, what's that supposed to mean? Then you go to the webpage and there's nothing in the knowledge base and when you try to email them it malfunctions after you spend all the time on writing the email.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camcorder
This is one of the very good Camcorders I have used. I initially had a Canon camcorder and a JVC before that. After using them I got this one. There was a vast difference between Sony, especially in the Video Quality and usability.

Editorial Review

With a size that is 28 percent smaller and lighter than Sony's previous camcorders, the DCR-TRV22 does not compromise powerful optics and audio performance. The camcorder's features include a 10x optical zoom, a 1/4-inch CCD for clean imaging, a 2.5-inch LCD with touchscreen control, a color viewfinder, and an 8 MB Memory Stick for still image capture.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars audio problem
I have only recorded 3 tapes since I bought it two yeas ago. Now, the sound starts to break off on good half of the tape during the playback. Used the sony cleaning cassette to clean the head according to the user's guide. The problem stays. The worst part is that Sony has the track record to deny the problem on its product even you can find the complains all over the web.Stay away from Sony! It's not the old sony anymore.

1-0 out of 5 stars It's a Time-Bomb
Mine lasted 2-1/2 years. Then suddenly one day the screen went black while recording. Then it would work for a while but the colors were distorted, then it would just black out again.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great camcorder
I use this camcorder mainly for making short video's and it is awsome.I really like the touchscreen becuase it gets rid of all of the buttons on the camcorder and is so much easier. Also something I haven't heard anyone say in the reviews is the record button on the side of the LCD screen as well as the normal buton by your right thumb. The button beside the LCD is really nice for if you are trying to get an angled up view of someone, or are holding the camcoder in an awkard position. The video has great quality under almost all circumstances, even if the still pictures aren't that great a camcorder is for video not pictures.

Personal Experience
5-0 out of 5 stars High definition
I had this projector for over a year. Use of DVD9 format video input will provide awesome detail on my 104" wide screen. It is highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better Choice than DLP / Plasma TVs
Ecellent Picture quality. Light in weight. Extremely high quality images with HDTV input(IO Digital cable). DVI inputs from DVDs give better-than-theatre picture quality. Component input is equally awesome. Compare it to the size, space and weight of DLP, Projection or Plasma TVs, this is and extremlely good and a great buy. I got a it for $2.8K in Dec'03. Also works great with the PC input. Overall one heck of a display. Hats off to Sony Corp. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Just OK there are probably better alternatives.
I primarily bought this camera to put photos of stuff on e-bay. The camera is ok for this use, but I found the OEM Sony batteries to be unreliable and expensive. We got the error warning mentioned by others and the same cold reception from Sony. I warn others considering this or any digital camera to make sure it does not use a proprietary battery. For the cost of the Sony battery we were able to buy a charger and 4 NiMH 2200 mAh batteries. The camera cycles faster with the flash and it appears that we get more photos per charge, plus we have a back up set. I don't see a down side with the non-sony battery. On the otherhand it takes pretty good pictures and its easy to cheat the shutter for special effects. We get very good close ups, but I always use a tripod for these and I bracket shoot at a few distances. After all there is no film, why not take several shots and pick the best one?

2-0 out of 5 stars blurry close ups
great little camera for taking people pictures, but if your an ebayer and need close ups of small items.like watches, forget it,it gets close to item but very blury....

2-0 out of 5 stars Low priced, but expensive
This camera takes decent pictures, but is a real battery hog. You'll need to buy rechargeables or buy the battery pack offered by Sony. The memory stick supplied with the camera won't give you many pictures, so you'll also need to buy a bigger capacity stick.Read more
