5-0 out of 5 stars AwesomeCamera for Price!
This camera is light, easy to use yet feature rich. I compared it to digital (still to expensive for comparable resolution to 35mm film) and other SLR cameras. The auto focus is fast and reliable, although in low light it strobes its built in flash to assist with focusing. The built in flash is fairly powerful and convenient because it is always available. The complex metering system has handled difficult lighting situations well.
4-0 out of 5 stars Camera good
The camera has been fantastic! It works marvelously, and the zoom lenses are amazing.

One of Minolta's claims to fame is that they introduced to the world, back in 1985, the very first autofocusing (AF) 35mm SLR ever produced: the Maxxum 7000. The Maxxum 7 is the fifth-generation version of that original Minolta AF SLR, combining recent advances in lens design, light metering, exposure systems, and focusing automation with an ease of operation that offers photographers tremendous precision and versatility in the field.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best cameras PERIOD
This is by far the best camera I have ever owned in my life, be it point and shoot, film or digital.I'm in the Marine Corps and took this camera with me in Iraq and countless other places and it went through some of the most extreme weather imaginable and kept on working. The camera is not labeled as splash-proof, but it should be -- I accidentally dropped this camera in a puddle of water and pulled it out and it was still working.I never had it fail on me one time. The LCD display on the back is huge and amazingly informative. The backlight on the LCD is very handy as well. The autofocus is also amazingly fast and accurate. It's a professional quality camera with beginner level accessibility.

5-0 out of 5 stars Intuitive Controls so you can use all the Technology
This is an excellent contemporary high-tech camera.I tend to shoot in aperature controlled mode, and it is very easy to change aperatures, to bracket exposures so you get three to seven shots in rapid fire with slightly different settings, and to see differing depths of field.Depending on the lens, it can also be relatively easy to modify the auto focus (so, for example, you move the center of the focus in front of or behind your subject to get the right part of the scene in focus), but note that some lenses will clutch and not be able to be hand-manipulated, leading to a need to switch to manual focus with those lenses in some cases.5-0 out of 5 stars the best
The best autofocus period. Out performs nikon & canon. Can focus in near darkness. It really performs better than expected. I like the information lcd on the back. I like it better than the F100. Judging from what I have experienced it should be very dependable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Camera For Beginners
I used this camera for my photography classes in high school and college. I was afraid that this camera wasn't as good as the one priced more. I love this camera. It goes everywhere with me. The pictures are amazing, and you can buy tons of lenses for this camera. I will tell you, out of all the camera's that I own, and have used, this is my favorite.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Camera
Since I am married to the military, I travel a lot to different countries. This camera is perfect, whether I am taking pictures of Mt. Fuji or my newborn, this camera always delivers great results. The auto focus is slow at times, but you can override that and manually focus on the object.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT for beginning photography enthusiasts!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great intermediate and advanced camera!
I recently purchased the STsi as a "step-up" from my QTsi (also a great camera) and I truly enjoy learning about its various special features.5-0 out of 5 stars A great camera for the serious amateur
At first I was wary of buying a product that wasn't completely new, and for such a reasonable price. But as soon as I got the camera, I found that it was extremely easy to use, and the only a quick reading of the instructions is necessary to be able to use all of its functions.3-0 out of 5 stars Not good for proffesional
This Camera s quiet good for learner because the feature is simple. But if you wan tot used manual shoot you will have a problem. Event it's offering the manual Aperture and Speed but it's difficult to use. The feature is close to the automatic pocket camera. The differentiation is only the lens because we can use the Minolta series of lens from 80 m to more. If you want the camera with automatic adjustment for aperture, speed and focus, and want to take a best shoot with various lenses, this is appropriate for you. But when you start using manual adjustment you will have a problem. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars SUPERB
This camera is absolutely superb in function, clarity, ease of use, and all around enjoyment. It is light, yet does not have the "cheap" feel of other cameras, the AutoFocus is quick and quiet, and it takes excellent pictures. The manual side of this camera is easy to setup and operate.Additional lenses can be had at reasonable prices. The built in flash works flawlessly. For those individuals who need an external flash, they can be purchased, although they are pricey.I recommend this camera for everyone from beginners to professionals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera for the Money !!
After much research and shopping, the XTsi has the most versatility and features for the money. Most retail stores in the area only sell the less expensive Minolta Maxxum cameras at the same price as the XTsi here at Amazon. The panoramic option is great for those senic mountain views and the camera is truely intuitive.I would recommend this camera to anyone who is either just getting into photography or is looking to step up from a compact 35mm camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars EASY TO USE
This camera has worked on my mind for a few years now ever since its introduction in 1999.As a long time Nikon owner, I avioded buying one.I mean it's not the most beautiful camera in the world. But at last it began to look good to me, I mean really good and I decided I must own one. But, alas, they are nearly out of production.I had to settle for a well cared for used one.The camera works like a dream. The controls are easy to locate and easy to use, even in the dark. They glow. There is a limited production still available in stainless and titanium and I think the Dynax european edition is still available if you can locate one.The limited edition sells for ahefty $2500. and is currently back ordered.Get one if you can and the heck with anyone who tells you its not pro and ugly.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Regrets
I have owned the Maxxum 9 for about a year now and have no complaints. I bought it because of the good reviews I read on the internet. Very tough camera. I use it frequently. I purchased 2 interchangeable lenses for it and I am satisfied with the operation and the outcome of my pictures, which I also need to include is the are 21 Custom Funcions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pro Camera from the mind of MInolta
I have spent a lot of time in camera stores and I have always thought Minolta products always got unfairly shoved to the side. The notion that Minolta cameras and lenses are inferior to Nikon and Canon is crap, and is perpetuated by certain camera snobs and self-proclaimed experts. I shoot regularly as an advanced amateur and I own and use the Maxxum 9. I feel that it is the most intuitive 35mm professional camera out there. The quality of construction is first rate, on par with the best that Nikon and Canon have to offer. The camera has a solid feel, everything about it is high quality. The control layout is so self-explanatory that most photographers can learn to use the camera in 5 minutes without flipping through the manual. With respect to lenses. I still run into narrow-minded people who ask me which "Nikkors" I use upon seeing my photographs, and then these self-proclaimed "experts" simply refuse to believe me when I inform them that my images are all created with Minolta AF cameras and lenses. No, I am not kicking Canon and Nikon products, obviously they are very good, several million pros using those systems cannot be wrong about them. But pretentious "camera aficionados" who slight the Maxxum 9 don't know what they are missing out on. I am sold on the Minolta Maxxum 9.When choosing lenses go for the G-Series, optically they are cut every bit as good as the very best lenses Nikon and Canon make. I've shot pictures with all these brands and even established pros who shoot with other systems admit that my images are just as sharp as any they've seen or made. And they absolutely love the 9's layout. Minolta would do well to stay with the Maxxum 9's basic concept when designing their future pro cameras. Now if they would only make a full frame digital body based on the Maxxum 9........... ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Camera
I must say, I really do like this camera. However, for a photographer that may want to explore the fine art of photography, this system may make it a little hard to do that.I don't particularly like the digital aperture and shutter speed adjusting.I would rather spin the lens, but I guess that's just me wanting to keep it simple.I also don't like the fact that you don't really have a very nice set of options if you are shopping for a new lens.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great, solid camera
We bought this camera for amateur photos from our wedding in 2002.It is a solid piece with simple, easy to understand controls. Some of the shots from this camera looked better than the professional ones.We also took this camera to Paris for our honeymoon. Our photos were absolutely beautiful in both indoor and outdoor settings.I highly recommend this camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding 35MM SLR Film camera
I've shot Minolta 35MM SLRs since 1974 (SRT101). I've owned this camera for 6 years and it is a workhorse in my camera bag. (I also own an Olympus 5 Megapixel digital).
3-0 out of 5 stars Exposure Problems
I have a mixed review of this camera since i bought it about 8 months ago. Over all the technology for the price you get in this camera is great, with the exception of the Auto Focus (AF). When used in manual, you can get great pictures with this camera, but then you can get good pictures with any camera that works in manual, if you know what your doing. So the real issue is how good the AF works, which is how you end up taking 80% of your shots anyways. The AF on the Minolta HTsi Plus has some problems. One, it is a little slow to focus. I tried the Canon Rebel in the camera shop after I bought this camera and found the AF to be much faster. Two, this camera seems to have some serious exposure problems in AF. It never quite gets the exposure right. For example outside shots look bleached out more often then not, even when you try to light meter off the brightest spot first. Also, the contrast in color seems to always come out weak with this camera. I am not sure how much of this is the camera's fault or lens's fault as film also plays a role here, but pictures defiantly come out color poor. I have used a number of different films with this and they all come out color poor.3-0 out of 5 stars Minolta HTsi Plus AF Camera
This has been a great camera for 3 years and 2000 pictures. However it recently has been giving me some trouble. It is now at Minolta getting fixed for $130.00. The first thing that happened was the built in flash would not fire anymore. Then a few weeks later the camera would not even power up. This camera has taken alot of great pictures for me I was just a little disapointed it just quit on me. The only cons I would say about the camera is no Date Imprinting,no Depth of field check. There also is no Panoramic mode and the XI 3500 flash I used when, on the camera hotshoe the red eye function would not work. It is a good camera I would just recomend an extended warranty. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars very good camera
Excelent camera with some good features. maybe the only problems is that in extreme cold or hot dont work properly

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera
A wonderful camera for beginner to pro.The camera's many features allow you to grow from using automatic features to solely manual.Comfortable in your hands too.The eye start feature is great for action situations but should be turned off otherwise due to battery comsumption. The camera's many features allow you to use it under any and all situations and, even as a new photographer, come out with good photographic results. Many kudos to Minolta for providing one of the best instruction books I have ever seen with the Xtsi.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love the Minolta XTsi
I bought this camera a year ago (from Wolf Camera in Charlotte). I love it! It is easy to use and produces sharp, clear photos. I have to turn off the autofocus sometimes, but that seems to be true of most AF cameras. I like how I can have complete control over the aperture and shutter speed (as well as focus), or I can let the camera control any or all of these functions. There are many other configurable features as well. I initially bought a 28-105 Sigma lens and just added a 70-300, with Macro. The lens that comes with this camera would be good to start out with. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars don't buy if your on a budget
i bought this camera after i took a high school photo class, what a piece of junk, in the 2 years i've owned it it's been repaired 3x - once at my expense of $130.00. The only thing this camera had barely outlasted was it's warranty.if your not fanatical about record keeping it's very difficult to figure out who to call to send it back.each time it went in it was gone for about 2.5 monthes.i've owned a nikon N75 for about 6 monthes now, and i must say, i love it, hasn't failed me yet, i used to think nikon was just a name and history, but nikons reputation really means something.I'm writing this for you - i'll update this if i hit any problems with the nikon or if minolta redeems themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent camera
I have one of these that I use on occasion.I shoot with a Digital SLR, but I do have to tell you that this camera really surprised me.The clarity of the pictures is astounding!I got mine with the 28-100mm zoom lens and I love it.I use it to take film shots of landscapes and portraits and compare them to the digital shots I get from my Nikon D-70.

3-0 out of 5 stars Maxxum 5
My Minolta Maxxum 5 didn't make it through 1 roll of film. It wouldn't work with the 5400HS flash or the wireless remote as advertised. ...`

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Beginner SLR that grows with you
The Minolta Maxxum 5, at a first glance seems to be the consummate budget SLR - small, compact, and seemingly devoid of the "Star Wars" features packed on the more advanced and higher end cameras. This little Maxxum will surprise, time and time again. It has unique features associated with Maxxum cameras, such as the eye start function - a feature that starts the camera autofocus and camera operation the moment your eye looks through the viewfinder. The camera's functions and important operations are very simple and easy to use - Minolta placed the buttons and dials in places where you can reach the important functions without EVER having to take your eyes off the viewfinder. The camera has 6 Modes to pick from, other than the obvious Manual mode - where you pick the f-stop and shutter speeds - There's Program - which is your basic jack of all trades, pretty reliable in all situations.Portrait - the camera selects a "soft" f-stop to give your subject a pleasing feel and look.Landscape, Action, Nature, and Night.. night scene is probably the most feature extensive, since it illuminates the flash for longer exposures to bring out the background behind your subject during night shots.Of course, you can set the camera for aperature and shutter priority functions. My only real gripe with the camera itself was the fact that it uses it's two CR2 batteries far too quickly, running through about 14 to 19 rolls of 36 exposure film - depending on if the camera uses it's built in flash often or not. The flash is good for fill situations, but it would be a much better option to pick a dedicated flash unit to save battery power and give your portraits more "pop" - something with a guide number of ASA 100 is just about right for this kind of camera. The autofocus is fabulous - the camera can focus flawlessly in near dark situations, but it does take SOME time - about a second or two.. but in fully bright situations, the autofocus rivals some of the top-end SLR's, right up there with the Minolta Maxxum 7's and 9's.All in all, this is a great budget SLR to start out with that will continue to give the serious amateur/beginner room to grow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera, very versatile.
Lots of nice features, I especially like the depth of focus preview. The nice thing about this camera is that it can be totally manually adjusted, totally automated (focus, fstop, etc.) or many places in between.I can do what I want manually while someone who doesn't really know much about photography can still take great pictures without having to worry about adjusting anything.I haven't even scratched the surface on most of the features, but what I've used so far is intuitive and functional. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars From the mind of Minolta!
How can you go wrong with this serious body from MINOLTA. It's got it all except mirror lock. For those who have a problem with the manual focus get a new presciption for your eyes or adjust the diopter dial by the view finder. This camera is now my work horse for all sorts of photography. Coupled with the 5400HS and a vertical grip it can be powerful and lethal piece of photographic equipment. I have always gotten razor sharp images without the autofocus being a problem at all. It also has the most powerful pop-up flash than any other camera of equivalent caliber. And for those of you who feel that the semi-pro bodies should not have a pop up flash, well its to trigger other flash in the wireless mode- Does your camera do this?. This camera has a lot of features that other cameras can't or have failed to deliver. This is the best bang for your bucks. Good luck in creating your images. 5-0 out of 5 stars Minolta Magic
An excellent camera for serious amateurs or professionals. It can be used as a "point and shoot" guaranteeing good results every time even for beginners. However creative you are with your photography this camera meets your needs every time with an impressive array of modes and functions.A quality, easy to use and easy to understand camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent SLR!
I am an advanced amateur.I have been shooting with this camera for about 9 months.I also own the Minolta XTsi.The 800si greatly out-performs the XTsi.The features are too numerous to count, and no one could ever learn them all. This camera is probably a bit advanced and pretty overwhelming for a beginner.I added a Minolta VC-700 to my 800si.Its the vertical control grip.Lets you use 4 AA batteries instead of the costly 2CR5.The VC-700 also makes the camera's width and height almost the same while adding an extra shutter release thats in the upper right hand corner when you are shooting vertically.I recently added the 5400HS flash as well. All I can say is AMAZING.Many pros use Nikon, but I think Minolta is just as good if not better. This is a great camera at a great price, but a word of advice--shop around, camera equipment prices vary greatly. ...
