5-0 out of 5 stars Sigma APO 80-400mm F/4.5-5.6 EX DG OS Lens for Canon SLR Cameras
Very pleased with this lens.. espcially like the OS for hand held shooting. Photos are sharp.Debated betwwen this lens and the Canon 100-400mm... Selected the Sigma based on reviews and cost savings of $450.Works well with my Kenko 1.5 teleconverterfor a Zoom of 600mmthough the auto focus is slow with the Kenko unit.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad lens, not perfect.
I purchased this lens in lieu of the Canon 100-400 L OS, to save a little money. It wasn't a bad decision, but I will qualify it with the following note.I've used this lens on the Canon 30D crop sensor and on the 5D full-frame sensor. This lens works much better on the crop sensor. You'll get more telephoto and less distortion. On the full-frame 5D, the lens is at its limits on vignetting most of the time and I've found the results to be mostly unacceptable. It produces reasonable sharp shot and the OS works very well.It is a slow focuser though.Build quality isgood and solid, though a bit heavy it isn't difficult to carry around and use.Final thoughts...if you are shooting a crop sensor camera, this is an excellent walk-around lens with good range and good results. If you're shooting full-frame, I'd avoid it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value
I was considering both the Canon 100-400 and this lens. I opted for the Sigma for cost and I very happy with it. Though it's not a light lens, with the OS, I can hand-hold it even with a 1.4 extender in daylight. I prefer the ring zoom over the Canon push-pull because all of my other lens have it. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
This lens in just ok.It is a little soft at the edges and at wide apertures. After using it for a few months I sold it to buy a Canon 17-40 f/4 L.The Canon is a stop slower and a couple hundred dollars more, but the images are sharper and it is weather sealed.I would invest the extra money in a Canon lens.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Lens, but Very Fragile
I was given this lens as a gift from my father after he'd used it for about 5 years. It broke on him twice before he gave it to me, and it broke on me shortly after he gave it to me--the aperture would stick and cause error messages on my EOS 10D.Between he and I, we've sent it off for repair service three times. When it works, it works well.It is sharp, had good color and takes good pictures. In fact, I really enjoy it.Be prepared to spend a lot of money on filters, though. At 82mm, good filters don't come cheap. This is a good lens, but it is likely to give you headaches.Consider buying Canon's 16-35mm or 17-40mm first; it may be worth the extra money.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Sigma lenses
Quite a sharp lens, did some very good shots until I replaced it with Canon 16-35 f/2.8. Overall I was very happy with it, the tiny little problem it is a very fragile lens (like most of Sigma lenses), and it needs a very special treatment, also the size of the filter is very big, makes it very expensive to buy 82mm C-PL for example. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Great product - TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
I bought this lens in October and loved it. It's great when it works, but the manufacturing sucks, and the lens came apart in under a year. I sent it in for warranty repair and got a bill. I spent HOURS on the phone with Sigma's repair department and, after being passed around from technician to manager to Sales Manager, I was told they'd pay for the repair labor, but I had to pay for parts. They were totally unconcerned with customer satisfaction, totally unconcerned with the reputation of their equipment. They just weren't going to fix the problem with the piece of equipment I paid $800 for. Sigma makes a great product, but isn't at all concerned with customer Satisfaction ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Had this camera for a year and love it
I researched several cameras and finally chose this one not just because they make great lenses but the lense mount. Theirs is metal while Cannon, Nikon, etc are all plastic. This is not only cheap but flimsy. It takes great pictures and no one else gives you better value than Sigma considering the two lenses and bag. The bottom line is it takes great pictures and has lots of features. I don't care that some have said it a good starter camera--its like a bike. Lance Armstrong would win on any reasonably good road bike. Period.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sigma
Buying this camera was a total mistake.I had it for 3 months and it started using batteries, $36.00 worth in two days.I returned it to Sigma on December 10th and kept calling them. They told me they were too busy to look at my camera and call back at the end of January.I called again and was told the manager would call me, he never called.I then sent an email and they never responded.I went out of town for the weekend and came home and my camera had been left on the porch for 4 days in the cold and rain.I have never seen such poor customer service. Not quite sure about the camera yet because I wasn't able to use it very long.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pro Camera
A few things about this camera: I have been using it in pro work for almost two years, and it is just that, a pro camera. It is bare bones. No toys that you will find on many larger names. I, personaly, don't miss those toys (maybe I would like a small popup fill flash every now and then...) so long as you don't mind or are already hauling a full bag of toys along with you. I have the TTL flash made for the camera by Sigma, and its 'ok' with some post editing. Good reach and power, but will sometimes not talk to camera and need to restarted.
5-0 out of 5 stars A JAPANESE WORK OF ART!!!!!!!
I WANT TO WRITE A REVIEW ABOUT THIS CAMERA BECAUSE I BUY IT A FEW DAYS AGO AND I WANT TO TELL YOU THE REASONS OF THIS PURCASE.
1-0 out of 5 stars This camera is past it's prime
The review "A great camera with a few drawbacks, February 26, 2004 Reviewer: A customer (St. Paul, MN USA)" is exactly what I would have written a couple of years ago when I first bought this camera. In the right conditions, especially landscape and close up photography you can produce some really spectacular images.Indoor family snapshots with this camera are no better than average, but never-the-less adequate.Overall I got some great use out of the camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing picture quality
i have had this camera for almost 2 years now and am still in love with it.i use the EX series 15-30mm lens and there isn't a situation i have found where this camera doesn't kick the [...] of any other digital camera (except for maybe the new SD10).i have a friend with a Canon that cost a ridiculous $9,000 and her pictures look like junk in comparison.i recently took a photo i took with my SD9 at a canyon in new mexico and had it blown up to over 3 feet wide.of course, the file size is absolutely huge, but the print out is stunning.you cannot even see the pixels.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just got it and trying it out-- fuzzy at full 300 mm zoom
I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great pro-sumer lens, bargain price
This is not a professional lens. It's not an L-series lens. But it's a great pro-sumer lens. If you're a serious amateur without a lot of money, this is an absolute bargain and it gives you a great range with good quality. If you need to get all the way up to the 300mm range and only have $200 in your pocket, this is absolutely the way to go!!! Sturdy lens (feels way sturdier that the comparable Canon lenses), comes with a hood and a case (Canon charges you about $25 for a lens hood and a similar amount or more for a case!). Buy it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Lens
This Sigma zoom lens is a very good lens for the money. I haven't had the chance to use it a lot yet but what I have done is wonderful. Images are sharp and the color is excellent. It zooms smoothly and the focus is fast, sharp and quiet. It interfaces with the Canon Digital Rebel XT perfectly, no problems there. Unless you REALLY need Image Stabilization for a lot more money this is the lens for you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A SUPER lens for such a LOW price. Amazing.
I was not expecting super results for such a relatively low price, but that's what you get with this great lens. I am amazed at the sharpness, color, and contrast this low cost Sigma provides.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Lens in this price range...Hands Down.
First of all I must tell you that I was dragged kicking and screaming into the world of digital SLR photography. Not because I had a love of film on the contrary I hate film photography, it was more like I hated the thought of lugging around lenses and all the other stuff. I managed to build my business and reputation using fixed lens "Pro-sumer" cameras. Long story short what made me move to SLRs was performance, speed, quality and lenses like this one.If you have ever read any of my other reviews you already know I am a terrible gear head and often tend to trick out my cameras to the hilt! I was buying lenses for a rebel XT when I bought this lens on a whim. To start 70-300mm is nothing earth shaking every lens maker in the business has at least one model in this range, but the real kicker with the Sigma is the macro feature, that in a word is simply amazing. The macro feature can be switched in at 200-300mm and is tack sharp for everything from flowers, to coins to whatever!! And considering the focal range this is a relatively fast lens. In a normal capacity its dead sharp in all applications no matter what your light conditions inside or out. I have even used this lens for wedding portraits and got great results. As with all Sigma lenses the build quality is excellent as is the glass giving it the feel of a lens costing a whole lot more. As for accessories I would reccomend both a UV filter as well as a good CPL. Size wise it is what I would rate medium sized (as opposed to my Sigma 50-500mm) this makes it easy to manipulate and use in the field. If you are a Nikon user remove the lens hood and you will get amazing results using your pop-up flash! (Canon doesn't do as well with this.)
4-0 out of 5 stars Decent balance of quality for the money.
First:You get what you pay for.The "feel" of this lens isn't "Nikon" in any way, so you should not complain about that part of the Sigma experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sigma 10-20mm
This is my new favorite lens! This lens is sharp at all apertures and takes stunning photos.10mm is super-fun and I'm having a great time taking wide angle shots.I find that this lens is on my camera most of the time now.Keep in mind, this lens is designed for cameras with a crop-factor- so Canon 5D owners need to look elsewhere.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very good ultra wide lens for Canon Digital SLR 300D 350D 10D 20D Rebel XT
If you are looking good quality and price ultra wide lens for APC-C senser size digital SLR, this lens is a very good choice. Canon also has an EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens. However the price is more than $700. Here is a Sigma, 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM. Sure it's little bit dark than Canon, but it's OK. Usally ultra-wide lens are used at outdoor. 5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding 50mm-Equivalent Prime Lens!
After researching the various offerings from Nikon and others, I purchased this lens to serve as a Portrait and general-purpose low-light lens. The published reviews have been very positive, which ultimately made my purchasing decision easier.[For those interested, I am utilizing this lens with Nikon's D2X top-of-the-line digital SLR.]

The picture angle of this lens on a digital camera with an APS-C sized sensor (most Canon and all Nikon DSLRs) is 45 degrees, which compares to the 44 degrees of the Nikon 35mm lens, but far short of the 53 degrees provided by the Nikon 28mm lens.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good!
I just did a side by side comparison of landscape images between this lens and a canon 24-105L with a Digital Rebel XT.To my surprise there isn't much difference in image quality when you match the aperture and focal lengths. The Canon L series lens is faster at all focal lengths and has image stabilization, is sealed and comes with a lens hood, but costs about three times as much. The Sigma lens is slower to focus and noisier, but weighs quite a bit less and has almost twice the maximum focal length and is wider as well. So, if you are using a cropped image camera and have plenty of light, this lens ought to give good performance. If I had to choose between the two, I'd definitely take the Sigma for walking around or daylight landscape.

5-0 out of 5 stars My choice for traveling
I got this lens a day before taking off for an eight day trip, and shot over 1800 photos with it.Though not the fastest lens out there, it did everything I wanted it to, both in the wide angle and the telephoto.I think I put it through a pretty thorough test over that week, and have these comments:
5-0 out of 5 stars Great lense for the money
I was looking at going with the canon L series lenses in this range, and found a comparative site with example photos - http://www.slo-foto.net/reviews-56-page1.html comparing them. Given the difference in price, I figured had nothing to lose going with this lense - even though it doesn't have any image stabilization. The lense works well with the Canon Digital Rebel, and easy enough that my wife took the SLR to Kenya with her with only this lense (not my entire bag of tricks) - her first time using the SLR and the photos look excellent. Great lense for the money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A fabulous lens for the price
After switching to a D70 from my previous 20-year old Minolta X700s, one of which had a Sigma 24mm almost permanently attached, I treated myself to this lens and am very favourably impressed. The build quality is excellent and the image quality is even better than I expected for the price. The images are somewhat warmer than I get from my Nikon 18-70mm and 70-300mm zooms but this is definitely nothing that worries me. Distortion is obvious at the 10mm end (as you would expect) but, again, less than I would have expected and not at all objectionable.
5-0 out of 5 stars sigma vs. nikon 12-24
I have been shooting for about eight months now. i was torn between the sigma and the nikon. I read several reviews and wnet to a camera store and tested both lens and enlarged them in photoshop. I love the sigma. It is wider, less CA and seems like less barrell. It is as sharp as the nikon, the only downside is that there is light fall off when the lens is wide open at 10mm. It is very noticable, so i just stop down to 7.1 or 8 and the problem is fixed. The sharpness is clear through the whole picture. For the price it can not be beat. I would rate this lens equal with the nikon 12-24. I see no advantage to going with the nikon over the sigma unless you like the constant 4 and minor light fall off when wide open, easily fixable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Super Glass
Having purchased both the Nikon 12+ and the Sigma 10+ before returning the Nikkor and keeping this Sigma, I can honestly say that I can not be happier with this lens. The photos are super sharp, the lens works perfectly, it feels good on my D200, and it has become the only other lens I carry along with my 18-200 VR. I can't recommend this lens more. ...
