Editorial Review

The CanoScan D2400F could well be the ideal scanner for the serious amateur imaging buff. Offering an incredible resolution of 2,400 x 4,800 dpi and48-bit color, your photographic enlargements will have the same absoluteclarity of the smaller originals. With the transparency adapter, which canhandle 35mm film and slides, you can enlarge all the way up to 11 by 17 inches, animpressive step up from the standard maximum size of 8 by 10. Highlights, shadings, and fine detail all come through swimmingly, and with the simpleone-touch operation, this scanner is relatively easy for newcomers tomaneuver. The USB interface is compatible with either PC or Macintosh, asis the accompanying software package, which includes Photoshop 5.0 LE,ArcSoft PhotoBase 2.1, and ScanSoft OmniPage 9.0. Canon offers a one-yearwarranty that covers parts and labor, along with a free InstantExchangeprogram. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent scanner
I have used a Microtek ScanMaker 35t Plus for film and two flatbed scanners for paper copies. The Microtek was a great disappointment that does not perform as expected. After acquiring the CanoScan D2400U, I can get rid of my three scanners and can scan larger-format negatives as well. The speed of this scanner is not the best, but this does not really bother me.At least, a prescan of three 35mm negatives at once do save some preview time. The sharpness might be a bit less than a dedicated film scanner, but look at the cost of such a scanner that can also handle large negatives. With some retouching on Photoshop, the quality of the scans are very good.I particularly like the automated scratch removal feature, which I use all the time for colour films. That saves me a lot of retouching time afterwards.

4-0 out of 5 stars Slide Scanner Mode lacks Some Detail Resolution
Overall it does what Canon says it will that is both normal and film scanning in one package with software correction of surface defects. However if you compare a scan of let us say a 4x6 print from a negative with a direct scan of the negative there is a slight loss of detail present at 2400 dpi the max resolution possible. How significant this is to a customer is a matter of personality and need.It is the best dual scanner right from what I can see but as a prosumer type of person I have a problem with that slight loss of detail.....but then again look at the price I would have to pay to get better (ouch). ... 2-0 out of 5 stars poor !
my old scanner burnt out 18months ago or so.... it was very cheap .. and so I thought this time I'll buy better quality.. not so.. the "film adapter unit" consists of a light in the lid of course and, a cardboard like lid liner two pieces of plastic, (with two subpieces)and two pieces of black construction paper ( reminds me of my youth and being the first one to open the new breakfast cereal to get the punchout toys)Canon decided that one piece of paper would suffice for both 35mm slides and 120 ..so made the opening for the larger and tells us to cut our own piece of paper to fill the the 35mm opening .. the lid liner which must be added for prints attaches through some punch holes that I see becoming unusuable in about 10 removals give or take..ALL THIS at a premium price. and it's SLOW.. as slow as my old cheap model the scan is fairly quick the "light adjustment" time is interminable ! save your money !

5-0 out of 5 stars great scanner
Using this scanner with a new 533 G4 Powermac running 9.1.Worked perfectly right out of the box, with beautiful scans and software that worked as advertised, including the OCR.And the slide/transparency adapter actually works fairly well.Scans are quite quick due to the lossless compression scheme used by Canon to speed up data throughput with the USB connection.A bit pricey but I think the quality and convenience of this scanner make it a good value. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Negative stars for this piece of junk!!!
About 6 months after buying the S450, I started getting paper jams from hell.I called Customer Service and they replaced it with a refurbished model.4 months later the same problem has surfaced. It wastes ink like crazy and the so called economical ink tanks cost a fortune since I was reprinting pages because of the very frequent paper jams.I never had this problem with my HP Deskjet which I owned for 4-5 years!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I suprizing package!
At first I was concerned about the printer and scanner, and wan't sure whether it came with all the cables and ink cartridges. I was surprized to find everything was together and everything was included. The S450 printer prints extremely fast, is easy to set up, and last a long time. The scanner is equally as efficent, as photos are exact images. This is a wonderful product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Factory-reconditioned Canon FB630U CanoScan USB Flatbed
I have been using this scanner for approx. 1 year and have had no problems at all with it.I realized when I bought it that it was not the new FB630U scanner, but a refurbished or factory-reconditioned scanner, and anticipated problems, however, the only difficulty I had was hooking it up and that was due to my lack of knowledge, not the scanner. I called the company and they very pleasantly walked me through the installation and I haven't needed anything since. My experience with this scanner has been comparable to it being a new scanner.3-0 out of 5 stars Good interface, OK scans
I have had this scanner for about 2 years and have never had a problem with it. The drivers are a little hard to find on cannons web site if you are running xp. it has a one button interface that you press when you want to scan something and it will ask you what program you use for the picture. that is a nice feature. The "scangear" drivers and software are pretty good and let you do some simple things when you preview the scan like brightness, contrast, cropping, before you do a final scan. 4-0 out of 5 stars hard to beat for the price...
Picked this up for (...) - and except for lacking the Z-lid of the newer Canon scanners, it works like a charm.Only uses a single USB connector and smooth as silk when used inside of Photoshop.I've actually left his scanner in my briefcase and forgotten it was there.A great compliment to a laptop, and a breeze to operate. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars 3000f review
When scanning photos this scanner is everything I require.2-0 out of 5 stars Plenty of bells & whisles, but poor image scanning
I've always been a big fan of Canon's scanners, but the Canoscan 3000f really let me down.I've been using the Canoscan n1240u and have always liked the great colors and vivid scans.I decided to upgrade to the new 3000f, manily because it will scan negatives and slides.Unfortunately, the reproduction quality on these types of scans are not very good. The color reproduction is very poor and the image quality, even at extremely high resolutions is not as true as it is on some of the less expensive Canon scanners.Even after having spent a lot of time working with various settings and options in the scanning software, the quality was still not as good as I would like to have seen.Hopefully Canon will get these problems fixed with their next line of film & photographic scanners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love my Canon CanoScan 3000F Scanner
I recently purchased the Canon CanoScan 3000F Scanner & not only did it arrive a lot faster then expected, but it works really well. I am really enjoying it. I am glad I bought this one. It's not to expesive, yet it has what I wanted & then some. The 5000F Scanner had a little to much for what I needed it for & the cheaper scanners didn't have some of the programs I needed. I would recommend this for people who wants a scanner for just home used. I like how fast it scans & how I can take the red out of the eyes. I also like how fast I can send a picture by email. The picture quality is really good. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good scans
I got a great deal on this scanner so I couldn't pass it up.I did initially have some installation issues in windows XP that took some time to get straightened out.The scanner produces nice scans and is very fast via the USB 2.0 connection. But over the last few months I've devoloped a weird haze on the underside of the glass and Canon seems less than enthusiastic about fixing or replacing it.I don't notice any difference in the scans, but my guess is that the haze will only get worse and will eventually effect the scans.

1-0 out of 5 stars slow, buttons don't work as advertised
The buttons on the front of the scanner don't work as advertised, so I have to go in through the software to initiate a scan.Scans are slow but good enough quality. You're better off spending a little more money for a quality product.

3-0 out of 5 stars It Worked Great
Initially I began to use the D1250U2 scanner with windows XP on an older slot A athlon system.Everything worked great, the scanner and software enabled me to scan dozens of family pictures for a scrapbook.I was very pleased with the ease and the quality of the scanned photo. Then I upgraded to a new t-bred athlon xp, new nvidia 2 motherboard and I have not been able to use my scanner since.XP will not recognize my scanner.I cannot load the twain drivers. XP tells me my USB device (the scanner) is defective and needs to be replaced. I have exhausted the world wide web for an answer.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars discontinued slide holder
I love this scanner, but I am very disappointed with Canon right now.I called them to purchase additional slide and film holders, and I was told that the slide holders are no longer available.I have been searching for weeks trying to find a slide holder.I bought this scanner to specifically scan my slides. If anyone knows where I can purchase slider holders for the CanoScan FS4000US please let me know.I really like this scanner, but I am very disappointed right now.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Satisfied
I've been using the FS4000 since January.I previously had a 2400dpi Minolta DImage II(I believe!) that kept on freezing up and was exceptionally slow.I can't comment in absolute terms about the speed of the FS4000 but it is certainly way faster than the old Minolta. My deduction of one star (more properly about 1/2 a star)is due to the fact the scanner still seems like it could be a lot faster - perception only, maybe, but still....4-0 out of 5 stars Good But Not Great
This is a very good scanner. The FARE system has worked well for me and that is the reason I bought it.I have the HP PhotoSmart S20 as well. While the scanners are roughly in the same price range, each has its strengths and weaknesses. The FS4000US is SLOWER and the images have more grain than the S20, but the images appear sharper, with better color depth. As to speed, I don't have to spend hours removing dust and scratches manually. And a neat s/w package called "NeatImages" workes wonders with the grain.Bottom line, total processing time is quicker with the FS400US, and the finished product is noticably better. ...
