4-0 out of 5 stars I'll save you some time...
I mainly bought this scanner because of reviews that mentioned being able to save things in PDF format. Well, it's easy once you figure it out--but that took me over 90 minutes!
4-0 out of 5 stars Good purchase
The scanner does the job I need it to do.The pictures turn out nice. The only drawback is the software program to make pictures better is not that great.Otherwise, for the price, good purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleased with product
Product was as advertised. Pretty quick on scanning and easy editing software to master. No problem on installation, either hardware or software. I had it up and running in about 10 minutes. I used this machine to duplicate old family photos. I prefer to use Photoshop for final editing, however, but that's just me. I am a Mac user. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars good scanner
bought it in 2004 for $35, still runs great. USB1.1 is not bad if you don't scan everything at highest resolution, i.e. 600dpi in pdf color format. I highly recommend it if sold under $25.

5-0 out of 5 stars Using a scanner with an enlarger
I bought this as a base for making an image scanner for my Minox enlarger. This requires considerable re-engineering of the scanning element, and a lot of patience. However, the LiDE scanners are easily disassembled, and the scanning mechanism is simple to work with. As this unit is inexpensive, it is also practical in as much as you will likely destroy the first attempt.
5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent experience
This is my first scanner. I was a bit wary buying it after reading comments on its problems with Windows XP but I bought it nevertheless. And I am happy that I made that decision. The installation, configuration and its use have all gone so smoothly that I can simply recount it as pleasure. It posed no problems, what so ever, working with a Windows XP Pro.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice scanner, but useless after upgrading computers
I have had this scanner for a couple of years and I loved it with my old Windows 98 computer and my Mac OS 9.0 laptop. Then I bought a Mac Mini with OS 10x. I have had compatibility nightmares ever since.
3-0 out of 5 stars worked great until the glass broke
I had this scanner for a couple years. I thought it worked really good. I used it mainly for scanning pictures, and they were very sharp. Then one day the glass shattered into hundreds of tiny pieces with no apparent explaination.

3-0 out of 5 stars works OK but some limitations
Unlike some of the others with this unit,I had no trouble installing and using it (one I got the right drivers, that is -- J&R Music world initially sent me the wrong disk, grrr).Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars System Administrator
This scanner is great!!I cannot say enough good about it.I have had mine for over two years now and I take it with me everywhere my laptop goes including courthouses where I use it to copy marriages and other court documents for genealogy. No power cord needed and is every bit as good as any of my larger HP ones stuck at home.

1-0 out of 5 stars A HORRIBLE Scanner with Windows 2000 Professional
Since buying this nice looking piece when it first came out, I have actually NEVER had it working properly under Windows 2000.It has limped along, and at times I have found ways to work around it's consistently inconsistent behavior. When it works, as one reviewer said, it is a rather nice scanner to use BUT that is the trick.... get it to function first.Every so often, after a relatively smooth spell, I get the error saying that it is unable to find or open the TWAIN source. To this problem, there seems to be NO definite solution.I am a tweaker.... everything IS installed properly and up to date. The Canon website is NO HELP.I'll un-install and re-install, as recommended, and will get the same error for hours on end, more re-installs, USB re-installs, all related software un/re-installed, registry cleaning, etc... NOTHING works! Some time ago, while still under warranty, Canon tech support, having exhausted all possibilities, decided it was a "rare flawed hardware" problem.... so they sent me a new N1220U scanner in exchange... ha! I got the same errors with the new one until it finally worked after more tedious tweakings by me... alone. How it was resolved is still a mystery to me.It worked OK, for a little while... about a year.It scanned well that is until, as is the case now... I simply have to walk away. The dreaded TWAIN error has appeared out of nowhere again and I am simply tired of trying to fix it.I will NEVER again buy another Canon product out of principle.I will gladly throw this piece of junk away after crushing it in my bare hands later on this week.5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, easy to store

4-0 out of 5 stars works fine on Windows XP
I wanted to let everyone know this machine works fine with Windows XP. Canon has updated the drivers and they are easy to download from the Canon site and come with detailed instructions. After loading with Windows XP drivers, this machine was scanning in documents just fine using Adobe 6.0. The machine is made for Windows 98 so is selling very inexpensively used, particularly on ebay where I got mine for under $15.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent first scanner
Easy hookup to my PC-Pentium II processor.Easy setup, except for severalattempts to complete the registration via modem--finally skipped throughthat and did the registration online. After that, I was quickly on my way, scanning my first photo in minutes.I felt it did a great job.I emailedmy photos and response from my friends on the quality were very positive.Excellent choice for first-time scanner purchasers.4-0 out of 5 stars Corporate user scanning 30 to 60 documents a day
We currently have one Canoscan FB620U in use and have ordered another onebecause of the flexibility and quality that it has offered. The scanning isa little slow going for high defintion but works great for scanningdocuments. The thing we appreciate the most is being able to control thesize of the scanned item. 1-0 out of 5 stars Great until Windows XP
This is a great beginner scanner on Windows 98 or older..does not work with XP...found out the hard way. Great for scanning & cropping photos for email.

1-0 out of 5 stars I have a FB620P and it was a good unit...but wait.
Do not even think of buying this scanner if you are running XP or Win2k. It will not work on either operating system. There are no drivers available from Canon to upgrade from Win98 to 2K or XP.1-0 out of 5 stars Great, if your favorite color is red
OK for black & white scans, but color scans are RED all over. Even the underside of the scanner cover, which is white, scans as red. Canon doesn't have a toll-free number for tech support and doesn't respond to emails. Sodon't buy this one unless you really like red. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC photo printer
After a tremendous amount of research, I bought this printer for my parents and was SO impressed with it that I was sad to leave it at their house! The picture quality is phenomenal (and I have seen dozens of different methods of producing prints), and the colors are truer to life than some of even my studio prints of the same pictures (I tried it by printing some copies of my wedding pictures). The copy feature does just a beautiful a job as the print feature does, and it's a BREEZE to use and set up.If it's not clear in the description, this machine also makes prints from negatives and those old-school slides (from the '70s?), which is unheard of in a home printer in all my research. Finally (and MOST importantly) the print cartridges are truly cheap to purchase: it costs around $9 to buy any of the colors, and the cartridge lasts for a while even after printing 100 or so pictures. My parents absolutely love it.If you're looking for an all-in-one and want a good photo printer, do not look any further.
1-0 out of 5 stars Sorry, I disagree
I read and researched this product for a month.I was so happy to get it.I still have a 10 yr. old Canon product! It was great.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Easy To use SkinnyScanner
The CanoScan from Canon might just be the easiest Scanner with Great software. After installing the Software that guides you along the way, your pretty much done. Without the need of any power cables, you just hook up one USB Port and press one of the three buttons, Scan, copy or E-Mail . The Software starts up automatically and includes a few programs including a photo album called photobase 3that stores the scanned images and letting imports from any device such as cameras. The photo editor they use is photo studio 5 similar to other programs but with more features. Although you could use other programs to do these tasks, Canon links the scanner, album and editing tools for you eliminating any conflicts.
5-0 out of 5 stars Definately good stuff
I bought this scanner because I read an online review that said it was good for artwork and photos and true to the words, it's great for both. I have never had any problems with installation or scanning my artwork. There is never any garbage stuff that shows up and in my experience it is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Affordable and reliable scanner

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great with Mac OS X
I've tried a lot of scanners with my Powerbook (Epson, HP, UMAX and Canon) - NONE of them worked as well or as fast as this one. For all you Mac people out there, you know how hard it can be to find software and hardware that works fluidly, especially with OS X. I've scanned photos, slides and negatives and had great results with all three. I highly recommend this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest bling for the buck
Pros:Very small size. Can store vertically with the stand included. Z-lid for bulky scans. Easy to use. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Scanner
I've been using this for about 2 years and it's excellent. I use it to scan photos and documents (you can scan a document and edit it on your computer with the bundled software). The quality of scans are superb. You can scan a small picture at high resolution and this scanner will give you a big, clear one. Although I don't use it so much now that I have a digital camera, I'm not selling mine for now cos it's great and it just might come in handy sometimes. Highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good stuff cheap
This is a fine little scanner for light duty. Doesn't take up a lot of space, and doesn't need a separate power cord. That's a huge plus. I take a star off for the installation and driver software. The Japanese manufacturers, try as they might, just can't seem to perfect the software fit and finish. The prompts are sometimes confusing, and the interface does comply with Windows standards. The icons are weird. Why not just use standard menus??? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Satisfied
The scanner I got from Raintrade works just fine.It arrived promptly and in good quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected. Glad I bought it.
I originally bought it just for the software [Adobe Photoelements 2.0].
3-0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately, it didn't work out
As usual, very impressed with Canon.Packaging is supreme:you open the box, the documentation is all neat in a plastic bag, screaming to be taken out first, then the scanner itself wants to come out second.Installation was a snap:I have Mac OSX, so I first downloaded the driver from the canon website, and after restarting my computer, the scanner appeared seamlessly in Photoshop's Import feature. The software interface was very user friendly:both basic and advanced modes were possible. The basic mode is very simple - preview and scan, pretty much. The advanced mode has color and resolution adjustment, among other things. The speed was pretty quick for a device which powers itself through the USB cord.Very quiet, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Scanner
This scanner is a wonder.Easy to use with idiot proof features.I love it - sorry I did not buy it sooner.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fine for flat stuff, but the film adapter is disappointing
I had an old Canon flatbed that gave up the ghost, so was looking forward to this new one, especially because it has a film adapter.First, and foremost, Canon's powering through the single USB cable is excellent and should be industry standard. However, it should be said that this is a film ONLY adapter - that is, it does NOT do slides (which seems like a bit of a bait; my bad for assuming, but the software does have the option of scanning positive film, so it seems like a important omission).More to the point, even when film strips/negatives are laid on the glass with the adapter, the results are slow, slow, slow and not very sharp. My suggestion: don't bother with the LiDE80 for film; just save$30 and get the LiDE65 for flatbed only.MacOSX interface is getting clunkier from generation to generation. Software bloat, I guess.

4-0 out of 5 stars Canon CanoScan LiDE 80
An excellent scanner.Have had no trouble with the scanner or the software supplied with the unit. All of the software as well as drivers supplied on the bundled CDs have worked without problem with Windows XP.Already have a lot of time logged on the unit scanning magazine articles for storage on CD because I no longer have room for the magazines.Circuitry/software does a great job of automatically compensating for old magazines where yellowing of the paper has occurred.Somewhat unhappy that I cannot register the bundled PhotoStudio software to qualify for upgrades, whereas the other software supplied can be registered. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars High quality scanner, easy setup
This is a terrific scanner. The setup was incredibly easy -- plug it into the USB port and that's it!No outlet plug is needed (and when you've got multiple peripherals and a computer making demands on your wall outlet, that is a great feature). You don't even have to reboot the computer. The scanner is slim and very light.3-0 out of 5 stars Highly Portable, for occasional use, slow as molasses scans
This scanner is to be held to be believed. It is extremely light and small. It is powered through the USB port. I carry it with my laptop whereever I go in case I need to scan something.5-0 out of 5 stars The best scanner for your money.
I bought this scanner in an emergency to replace my office scanner and fell in love.I scan photos for print publication and normally only need a clear picture at 200 dpi, while I often pump up the resolution depending on size requirements for the final layout. This scanner not only produced great looking images, it produced them faster than any other scanner I have ever used.Previews take seconds and large scans only take a few minutes whereas my old "pro" scanner would give me enough time to take a coffee break.I have used this scanner on my Athlon 600mhz, at work on my Apple G3 and at home on my wife's AMD 333mhz and had the same beatiful results. If I wanted great images I should have known to buy Canon in the first place! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars buy one for a friend too
well, i got one of these for my sister for christmas last year and she liked it so much and has told me over and over again how great it is that i am asking for one for myself this christmas.... i have used hers (both the scanner and printer) and havent one bad thing to say about either.the price is great, the brand is great, and they are both asthetically pleasing.definite recommendation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Value for money...
At under ($$$), the D646U+BCJ2110 is a great value for money. The D646U scanner installs easily and I had no problems setting up the software bundle that came with the scanner. Scanning resolution is not fantastic, but its still high enough for most jobs that I do at home. The color reproduction is pretty darn good for the price, and the scanning speed is adequate. The scanning software allows the beginner to begin scanning with a minimum of fuss, while still catering to the whims and fancies of the intermediate user (me!!). The Z-lid on the scanner, which raises up to allow you to scan in fat texts is a great idea and works very well. Plus, the styling is nifty and its slim and beautiful on my desk.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality Control & Support
Be warned - DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT
1-0 out of 5 stars Dust Inside, aka DOA
When you get it, check the inside glass with flash light before you plug it in. Mine was peppered with grime and dust; Scans show these as white specks everywhere! I'm returning this product from company that does no quality checks on its product. 2-0 out of 5 stars Veeery sloooow!!

2-0 out of 5 stars $99.00 AND NO USB HOOKUP?
I guess maybe it was my own fault but I assumed all of the new scanners on the market included USB connections. This one is going back! This is probably an o.k. scanner but most computers offer USB connection for plugand play operation and find it pain to hook it up through my printer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super scanner at a great price!
This scanner was a breeze to set up and get going. The picture quality is great...photos scan in crisp and the color is dead-on.Also, it takes up less space than most other scanners I've seen.
