5-0 out of 5 stars Thought I would upgrade, but nothing beat my i455
I bought this printer with a Canon digital camera in an inexpensive bundle.I quickly outgrew the camera, so I figured I had to upgrade my printer as well.I tried a few other printers which were highly touted by the imaging gurus, but they didn't do any better than this one. I don't know how much I would have to spend to beat my i455.
1-0 out of 5 stars Mine's worthless
In a year I haven't managed to convince it to print a dozenpages for me.I've repeated contacted Canon about it's problems looking for help but they just try to sell me more stuff. With very solid Canon name I'm very diappointed with this.

3-0 out of 5 stars Planned Obsolescence
As a road warrior, I bought the i70 to replace my old Canon BJC-85, and to use with my Powerbook G4. On the plus side, it is fast and prints reasoably good text, and very good photos if you use photo paper. The black ink tank could be bigger, but that is a minor issue. It is the smallest printer of its type that I have seen.
5-0 out of 5 stars Small & Convenient
I had this printer for about a year and had no complaints whatsoever. Ink can get a bit pricey but there's always Cartridge World who will refill both tanks for $18. I am on the road a lot and the size is extremely convenient, put it in your bag, get it out in the hotel, and boom, you got yourself a small office. Highly recommended. Hint: It's quite sensitive so don't put it in a bag that you'll check @ the airport. I did that for the 1st time last week, and when I plugged it I had an "out of paper" error even tough the tray was full. Through some research I found out that through bag checkout they had bent a piece that senses for paper, so I just bent it back and the problem was gone!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Quality but wastes a ton of Ink
I have had this little baby for over 1 year now and have no complaints what so ever about the print quality.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing and not sturdy at all
I purchased the Canon I80 printer as I wanted a small portable unit for training and conference events. The unit has broken down multiple times, the heads dry out and get clogged all the time and every time I turn around something else goes wrong...I purchased the unit for $250 and have spent as much keeping it going and only used it 12 times. It has now failed again and they want another $240 to fix it.Really a waste of money.I would not buy this product again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Printer Heads Dry Out
I agree wholeheartedly with Mark Page-Botelho's review. This printer is not for regular use.I had the same problem with the black print head drying out.The available maintenence functions have not been helpful, and the Canon service reps advice similarly has lead to a lot of wasted time and frustration, along with a lot of wasted ink and paper from doing cleaning and testing repeatedly.

1-0 out of 5 stars Canon i80 Is it worth it?
We've used this printer a little over one year and loved it. Unfortunately, now it is plagued with problems. First of all the print head is extremely sensitive to drying out and is very difficult to impossible to clean using the printer's clean function or doing it manually. Canon offers a replacement head for $65. Next the ink cleaning reservoir with normal use will fill up in about a year. To replace it will cost $120 and is only available through Canon. The print does travel well which is its intended use, but for an everyday printer you might want to look elsewhere. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Pictures
It took a lot of searching before I decided to purchase a good printer and this one is a great one. The pictures are clear and they print fast. I showed them to friends and didn't tell them that I printed them at home and they were very surprised when I told them. Spend the extra money and get a good printer. This printer also include photo ink, which is really needed for a clean print. Make sure you also get the right paper.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great printer
I acquired an S830D recently.5-0 out of 5 stars A great choice
... That said, I'm very happy with this printer. Other reviews, like the one on C|Net, have faulted the printer for mediocre text printing. I can't really address that complaint...have a laser printer for text and only use the S830 for printing photos and I'm very, very happy with how it performs that function. It's fast, I like being able to replace the ink cartridges separately, supports Exif if your digital camera outputs the encrypted data and the pictures are indistinguishable from those printed conventionally. It's the perfect color printer for my advanced amateur needs. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars OK if you can get one for $50 or less
Worked fine for a couple of years then one day just stopped responding. Price for used one is outrageous. Price for cartridges is equally outrageous. Get a refill kit from Sams' Club.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Printer I ever had.
I owned this printer since 1998 and it is still working. It is reliable. It let you print a lot of pages before the ink is out. You can network this printer without a problem. It can easily be put on a print server and used by all the computers on the network. I don't have driver on disk anymore but the driver is still available on the net especially on canon's website. The only problem I have in recent months is the ink is becoming scarce. Most stores don't carry the ink anymore. I just recently found the ink on amazon.com which, is great for me.
1-0 out of 5 stars What a hunk of crap
Sucked.Clunky piece of junk.Though it only cost me potatos to buy... but it cost me a forture to operate. If you own one do yourself a favor and through it out with the empty ink and buy something economical.$35 for black and it prints... no it bleed ink onto the paper at a rate of 500 pages per tank... AHHHHHH!That's scary.7 cents a page.Canon please bend me over and take my money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!
I've owned this printer for 3 yrs, I been through 7 printers within the past 5, and nothing can top this one. It is a budget printer, but the Quality it provides is good if your a student or a free lance printer. IF your into photography don't go with this printer. HOWEVER, this printer is a MONEY SAVER!!! the black ink I buy from target is only $6.40 and the color runs for about $17. You can't top that; the printer might be $100+ used but you will save lot of money in the long run in ink; I would reccomend this to anyone!

1-0 out of 5 stars Badly designed printer prone to problems
The printer worked ok for a short period of time. Its obvious from its flimsy construction that this is a budget printer. The warmup cycle is long, loud, and fairly annoying. The color printing was far below the detail on an old HP 960c printer that I also used. However it worked ok for printing text with a few graphics, things like webpages. This however is not an adequate photo printer.
4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Except For Ink Thirst
Overall this is a very good inexpensive ink jet printer. The image quality, black and white or color, plain paper or photo paper, is outstanding. It's fairly fast and fairly quiet. My only real complaint with it is that it goes through ink like crazy. More specifically though, the small ink cartridges tend to dry out rapidly once opened. If you don't do a lot of printing, you will be replacing the cartridges very often (per page). For example, I only print about 50-100 pages per year. But, I have to replace the (black only) ink cartridge 2-3 times per year, so I end up getting 20-30 pages per cartridge. However, if you do a lot of printing, I'm sure you'd get much more use out of a cartridge, as it would not have time to dry out and you'd be using all the ink. Fortunately you can replace only the black or only the color catridges separately, and while not cheap, they're not ridiculously expensive as some others are. That's my only knock on it, it's a fine little beast otherwise. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Go to Canon USA's Website for Drivers!
This is a good quality printer with 2 major restrictions.First, the printer, printer paper & cartridge packs, and additional paper trays for labels and such are expensive.Second, the largest it prints is 4"x6".
5-0 out of 5 stars Spectacular results
For me (Windows XP Home edition), everything worked perfectly out of the box.Within 15 min of opening the box, I had pictures that easily beat the 1 hour photo machines in both detail and color.(I have a 6mp DSLR.)I used an SD card reader to transfer files from the camera to the computer, then used the Microsoft print wizard in MS Photo Manager to quickly size and send the print. This is a great tool to have for getting beautiful snapshots quickly. It is a little pricey as noted in earlier reviews because special paper and dye-sub materials are required but the quality easily beats my Epson C84 IJ and Lexmark Z805 IJ.I will probably use one of the on-line services for bulk printing because they are much cheaper but I always have the capability for something right away when I want it.

4-0 out of 5 stars It can be fast.
I used this printer with my Digital Rebel. It fed the paper almost immediately and started the printing process.Photos were done quickly.I find it valuable when visiting friends and family.I am able to leave photographic memories immediately. As for the price of photos, I don't print every photo that I take, only ones that I can't wait to print before I get home on my computer. This is definitely a nice little tool that can even be put in your camera bag.Don't expect to find cheaper replacement ribbons on the third party printer cartridge sites. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A review 5 years down the line
My brother bought a Canon BJC-8200, five years ago, and after a while he outgrew it and passed it onto me.It's amazing that a printer that was created in 2000 can produce pictures (and regular documents) with such a high quality even by 2005 standards. It amazes me that in the time that I've used this printer, I've gone through 3 different computers.I figured it was about time that I sang it's praises.
4-0 out of 5 stars Improve the Ink!!!
I specifically wanted this printer for photos and the quality is certainly very good. However, the inks used by Canon have very little UV protection and are susceptible to fading fairly quickly in a sunlit room.Otherwise, I had some minor installation problems and the printer is on the slow side, especially compared to my Lexmark. The Canon has superior color accuracy and it is a pleasure not to have to pay $(...)+ for ink refills.I would not recommend it for daily black and white typing duties, but for photos it is a superior product.

5-0 out of 5 stars cartridge and paper buying difficulties
This is a great printer, but I am having a hard time buying paper or ink cartridges other than on the web.At say, Circuit City or Office Max, almost all of the paper is for ink jets. The only Canon paper I have seen is the Canon Glossy Photo Paper, which is OK, but not as good as Photo Paper Pro.I did find BCI-5 ink cartridges at Circuit City, but these are discontinued and there were no BCI-6s in sight. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Light and portable
I bought this printer for travelling, and it's quite satisfactory. Very light, compact, easily fits in a suitcase. Print quality is perfectly adequate. It does use up ink pretty quickly, but if you only print black and white (as I do), the large black ink cartidge is a much better buy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Enexpensive for a reason
I bought this printer because it was the cheapest one I could find. I figured it couldn't be that bad, and I only really needed it to print papers for school. However, my frugality has cost me a lot of frustration and wasted ink. I have never had a printer suck down ink so fast, probably because I've never had a printer with such tiny cartridges. Plus, now it won't even print in black at all. I can't even get it to use the color ink to print anything black and white. Do yourself a favor: Spend more money and buy yourself a real printer.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good...printer
Yeah, it's kind of noisy & sort of slow, but a good deal for the price. Easy to set up & easy to use & produces a printed page that looks very professional - you won't be embarassed to turn in a report to the boss or teacher. It could get tedious for long reports but for it manages print queues well.It has separate cartridges for black and color and changing them is simple... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Canon printers rock!
I bought this in a fit of dispair after yet another battle of errors with my hideously expensive Epson printer-copier-scanner.The print quality on the Canon is just as good, and the function is better, as the Epson would take either no pages or 5 pages at once. And for all that the quality is good, Canon's not a ink-drinker, either.
5-0 out of 5 stars First Class Quality at Low Price
Replaced my Epson Photo Printer.Ink cartridge are readily available and dirt cheap.Epson was not as good.Cons:I find it a bit slow.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!!!!!
I upgraded to this printer, from cannon 4400, was good deal on this printer, only takes 2 brands of ink, color 24 and black, very, very good in pictures, and I dont have to wait to download my pictures anymore, from kodak software that takes forever, and sometimes kodak softweare dosent work right.

5-0 out of 5 stars Canon does it again
I feel bad for the people that didn't have a good experience with their printer.I cannot speak for the reliabilty across a number of printers but I can vouch for how great mine is.
2-0 out of 5 stars Print heads fail
I have both the i250 and the i350. The i250 print head failed after 3 months of use (blank lines in the middle of words), but was still under warranty, so I managed to persuade Canon to send me a new print head. BTW, the print head costs about $45 to $50... almost the same as cost of the printer. Next, I upgraded to the i350. This time, the print head took 8 months to fail...same problem. I regard these as disposable printers, nothing more. They work great until the print heads fail.

4-0 out of 5 stars Canon i350 Ink Jet Printer
Quite a good printer for the price Only problem is as another reviewer pointed out below, it uses the BCI-24 print head, which isn't as available as the more popular BCI-21.But it can be purchased from around 45 if you Google for it.Cartridges are quite small, but relatively inexpensive.

3-0 out of 5 stars Novelty
Before purchasing this item, be sure you know what you're getting (I was unfortunately hasty). It's cute and tiny, to be sure, but so are its photos--the size of a credit card. And they're not cheap. The Canon CP-100 is slightly larger but for the extra "O" you're getting newer technology and a printer that offers photos of four different sizes.

1-0 out of 5 stars Canon Abandons Its Customers
I bought the larger Canon CD-300 printer less than a year ago for $400. Now, Canon says they will not create an XP driver for it. That is an extremely poor customer server.Anyone making PC-compatible hardware has to be prepared to support it for a reasonable period after they stop selling it. Canon promotes their printers as Microsoft Windows compatible, but the CD-300 doesn't run on the only version of Windows that Microsoft is selling! That is deceptive. I own a Canon digital SLR and digital SureShot. Because of this clear example of how little they care about their customers, they are the last Canon products I will purchase. Today, instead of buying photo paper for my defunct Canon CD-300, I bought the Sony DPP-SV77. It's a great little printer with a pop-up display for much less than the Canon... and Sony has great customer service!

4-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC photo printer
After a tremendous amount of research, I bought this printer for my parents and was SO impressed with it that I was sad to leave it at their house! The picture quality is phenomenal (and I have seen dozens of different methods of producing prints), and the colors are truer to life than some of even my studio prints of the same pictures (I tried it by printing some copies of my wedding pictures). The copy feature does just a beautiful a job as the print feature does, and it's a BREEZE to use and set up.If it's not clear in the description, this machine also makes prints from negatives and those old-school slides (from the '70s?), which is unheard of in a home printer in all my research. Finally (and MOST importantly) the print cartridges are truly cheap to purchase: it costs around $9 to buy any of the colors, and the cartridge lasts for a while even after printing 100 or so pictures. My parents absolutely love it.If you're looking for an all-in-one and want a good photo printer, do not look any further.
1-0 out of 5 stars Sorry, I disagree
I read and researched this product for a month.I was so happy to get it.I still have a 10 yr. old Canon product! It was great.....

1-0 out of 5 stars Same Story- Defective Printer
I have had the SAME problem as many have stated. At first, I bought the printer because my friends had one and I saw the outstanding pictures it printed.IT worked GREAT for about 2 years of light to average use. The only thing lacking, was that the black and white images seemed to be a little "blue" in nature and not true B/W.Then, all of a sudden, the printhead failed and to replace it would be $100.00. So, off to buy a new printer instead. It should not have failed and is a poor product.

2-0 out of 5 stars Another throw-away product
I really liked the quality of this printer when it was new; the pictures were outstanding. However, after only two and a half years of relatively light use, the printer head has failed. This is no different than having an engine fail in one's new, shiny car. What would one's reaction be if the dealer said "oh yes, after 2 years you have to replace the engine" "Didn't anyone tell you?".
1-0 out of 5 stars Expensive to maintain and doesn't last anyway
Initially, like everyone else here I thought this printer made excellent photo prints.I even got over the shock of how often you need to replace all 6 cartridges - $13 each!Well I use this printer not enough to warrant these costs and it added up quickly. Well after 17 months, it stopped working all together. Just blinked blinked and blinked away - operator error. The cherry on top of all of this - I called Canon and was charged a $10 phone call to tell me I need a $100 printer head.I reread ALL the material and no where - no where did it say this was going to be an option down the line.VERY SHADY CANON - I will NEVER ever buy another product, let alone printer from you again. Horrible customer service and personally I think NOT writing about the printer head in the literature should make them liable. ... Read more

It's the coolest party toy since the Polaroid: the new Canon CP-300 Photo Printer. Connect it directly to your Powershot-series Canon or other PictBridge-supporting digital camera, and you'll be printing snapshots and stickers faster than you can say "cheese." PictBridge is an industry standard that lets you print images by directly connecting your digital camera to your printer, regardless of the brand or model, without using a computer.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Goodbye inkjet photo prints
I've gone through a number of HP inkjet photo printers.Printing my own photos was somewhat of a novelty, but I had to concede that none rivaled prints done at a photo lab. Finally after struggling with ink costs, paper costs, and less than impressive print quality, I started to use ofoto.com.Recently, I got the bug again and invested in the CP-220.This little unit puts all of the other ones that I've owned (three HP printers) to shame.Durable prints, great color, compact design, PictBridge, etc. make this printer a hands down winner!
3-0 out of 5 stars Incompatible with HP Photosmart Software
I ran into a problem where the paper type selection was unavailble.Canon technical support was less than helpful.I figured out that the HP Photosmart software that's installed for my HP P1000 printer was causing the problem. After I exited the HP software in the system tray, the Canon printer began working fine.Canon's response was sometimes software is incompatible.I've found several reports on the web with people having the same problem, so Canon should know about it.The only reason I'm rating it as a 3 is because the picture quality when it actually prints from the PC is excellent. The results weren't quite as good printing directly from a Canon S200 camera; the picture wasn't as sharp.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good quality photos, but--
These Canon card printers do a fine job if you are printing directly from the camera -- or it is the only printer you own if trying to print from your computer.I bought the printer to do snapshots, while I own several other printers for documents and larger photographs.Even if you only have Adobe Acrobat on your system, the printer will not work. It is useless to me. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Printing
This was my first photo printer and I still tend to compare other models to this one. The print quality and speed on Canon Photo Paper is excellent. Having individual tanks has been a blessing. I've actually run into situations where the yellow runs out while all other colors are still usable. Even regular printing jobs are done admirably well.

2-0 out of 5 stars worked for just about 15 months
The printer head has to be replaced, it worked for almost 15 months. Also bought a Canon G3 digital camera for $600 that quit working at 13 months, conveniently when just out of warranty. Canon wants $185 to just look at the camera- repairs possibly more $. Canon has horrible customer service- buyer beware!

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent low-price printer
I have this printer for one and a half year. I've never had a single paper jam or other problem and I've printed thousands of pages. It's a fast printer; in standard print quality it prints about 10 pages of text & color diagrams per minute. The canon software is full of options for resizing, printing multiple slides-pages per page, photo printing (with canon photo paper),duplex printing, auto or manual color adjustment etc. The different ink cartridges are not expensive and they are compatible with many other canon printers. My next printer (if this one ever dies) will be a canon. ... Read more

We have the earlier model D680 which is very similar to the D780. The D680 also copies at 16 pages/min and may be used as a printer and fax. Our office uses it mainly as a copier. It is not the fastest but no problems in three years of 5x8 use.Occasionally we use the fax capability when our dedicated fax machine conks out.The D680 uses the same toner cartridge as the D780 and the newer D880.We have to replace the cartridge every month or two.The L50 cartridges can be expensive. We get ours from InfinityImaging.com or Provantage.com.

I purchased two of these machines for two of our remote offices.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good while it lasted
I bought this printer in mid-2003. It has worked very well for me. Unfortunately, it is now messing up like some of the others have described. The pictures look very dull. I've deep cleaned and changed all cartridges, but they still have a dullness to them. I have done a lot of printing on this machine over the past few years. I just wish that it would have lasted longer. I agree that it eats a lot of ink. I can't count how many cartridges I've gone through.

5-0 out of 5 stars I guess we're the exception...
We've had this printer for almost two years. I do a good amount of printing, both color & b/w. While I do need to do cleanings more often with this printer, mine is not sucking up ink at an unreasonable rate at all. And it is very affordable. Photos don't always print well... the only photo paper I have found to work well with my S530D was very the glossy trial pack that came with it when I bought it. No other photo paper has done well at all, so I suggest theirs. This is the best printer we have had in 10 years, and belive me I've thrown my share out the window! I can offer THIS advice to owners of ANY printers. Always use the power switch ON THE PRINTER to turn it on off, never use the power strip switch, or the switch from properties. For some reason doing so supposedly wastes ink? I don't get it, but I've always followed that advice and this printer has been an absolute gem for us. Good Luck! Jeannie

1-0 out of 5 stars print heads are duds
I have had this printer for more than a year.At first, it was a great printer. Not anymore!!It uses up ink like no other, yes, it is great to have the individual tanks(which is why I bought the thing) but now the print head isn't working right.Do several deep cleanings and use up nearly all the full tanks up, and the problem is still there. The pages have splotchy black marks and the texts are only partially printed.Went to the canon website, they don't even acknowledge this printer ever existed.
