Enough about the cable already!
Let's burn this into our memory for future reference. When you buy a printer, YOU DON'T GET A CABLE. This is true even if you buy a new monitor! Simply use the cable your old one hooked up with and you're set. Now let's concentrate on reviewing the item in question instead of the peripherals!
Great for any budget
This is very nice printerI must say...Prints fast, quiet, and sharp. I guess the only gripe would be no printer cable included, I mean who sells a printer without a cable?? But all u gotta get is a regular usb cable..... won't cost u anything..
Nocable
I just received the printer. In trying to set it up, I realized there is no computer to printer cable included, nor any explanationof what kind you need. You have to bail out of the setup and solve that little dilema.

Doesn't Last
I bought this based upon the reviews here last year. So much for community info. It has already started "banding" in less than a year. A new print head is about $125. It clogs very often, possibly because I use cheap ink from "Printpal." Maybe it would do better with Canon ink, but I never tried it. The separate color cartridges are a plus. This is the first time I tried Canon. I'm going to go back to HP and try a Laser printer to replace this useless piece of $#^*.
great start, dissappointing finish
Loved the print quality, speed, cost per page.
Would be an Excellent Printer but Lacks CD Tray
This is a very good printer and could be really excellent if it included the tray for printing directly on CD's and DVD's.I wholy recommend buying this model and then follow up with finding a third-party tray.Canon seems to omit the tray when this model is sold in some parts of the world. The good news is that there is a supplier.I've got the printer and the CD tray and get outstanding printable discs without using those darn adhesive labels.

Driver and software incompatibilities?
Please Google "Print Queue problem iP5200." Exactly the same problem I experienced is described by some other unfortunate people. The problem is that after printing a job, it stays in Print Queue for several minutes, and the second job cannot be started immediately. Those who reported the problem on internet did not get any solution. Of course, they and I contacted Canon. Those who posted the problem on internet and I used the latest printer driver. I have Windows XP Home with all updates installed. The reviewers here didn't seem to have this serious problem. I don't know why a small number of people experience the problem. One person who reported the problem on internet reinstalled Windows system without solving the problem. I didn't go that far.
Canon iP5200 Photo Printer
The printer is well made and functions well. Speed is good for both text and photos, even at high quality. My main complaint is that photos, especially poitraits, have a distinct reddish tint. It's difficult to remove the proper amount of cyan since the photos look perfect on the monitor. I've waisted way to much photo paper and still can't duplicate the image on the monitor. If anyone has an answer to this problem let me know please.

Editorial Review This printer might just become your favorite home electronics component. The feature-rich PIXMA iP5200R Photo Printer can produce a beautiful photo lab quality 4" x 6" borderless print in about 36 seconds. And it delivers an amazing resolution of up to 9,600 x 2,400 color dpi, for detail and clarity unmatched by comparable printers. Also, the ContrastPLUS five-color ink system--four dye-based inks and a pigment-based black ink--produces true-life photos with a wide color palette, along with laser-quality text. Read more

Exercise in frustration for low light pics--and very little control
This printer has been an exercise infrustration.I was very happy with our Epson 200R, but we used it to death and wanted to try an upgrade. I should have bought 2 more of the Epsons.
Good printer so far
Despite what others have reported, I had no problems setting up the printer for both wired and wireless.I do recommend setting it up wired first. My 2nd computer prints via the DLink wireless router with no problems. The power button on the printer is pretty well hidden (black button on a black case) but I discovered the auto power on/off setting which works great, even with wireless.
Quality and Speed
This printer is wonderful. The print quality is as good as you get through snapfish or similar digital processing companies - assuming you step up and buy good photo paper. The output speed is excellent in both color and black. The flexibilty of having two paper trays works well for me as I have the printer hidden away in a draw and connected wirelessly to my hub/router. The printer is larger than I expected but, really what's the big deal, if you want a smaller printer that's portable get a HP Deskjet 460bwt. Set up was a breeze - I'm running Mac OS 10.4.7 on a MacBook Pro. Great quality, great price and excellent flexibility with the wireless feature.

One key to its impressive performance: Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses an innovative print head with 2,304 nozzles that eject consistent, precise ink droplets as small as two picoliters. Not a text printer, for sure!
I bought this printer because it was exceedingly cheap after rebate. Big mistake. It MUST be a photo printer, because it certainly doesn't deliver on text. All text seems to be in shades of sepia, even at the darkest settings.

Photo lab quality at home
This cp-220 printer was easy to set up and print photo lab quality pictures right on my kitchen table, without my computer. Only one concern: I wish that the 4x6 paper did not have the post card lines/address/stamp on the back.
I love it
So far I am very happy with the printer. The prints look like they were done at a professional lab. The only thing I wish is that I could buy the ink and the paper separately.

18 months later...
Bought the Canon i560 in the summer of 2004.was sold on the individually replacable cartridges, after having spent/wasted so much $$$ on the all-in-one cartridges of my previous printer.HOWEVER, I have found (and I guess I do alot of printing, both colour and b/w) that I need to change the cartridges ALOT.
Best printer
This was my best purchase so far. The printer is fast and very quiet. Ink consumption is low and color are bright.
Excellent Printer! Will probably keep using this one until it breaks!
I've had this printer for well over a year now, and it's fantastic! No problems at all.It prints photo quality prints right to the edge of 8.5x11" paper. It uses the Pictbridge technology that lets you hook many modern digital cameras directly into it, so you don't actually need a computer to use this printer (but nothing beats having a computer to store and edit your digital photos!)The printer has four separate ink cartridges, which are replaceable with cartridges found at your local Staples and Wal-Mart store for a fairly decent price. The printer also prints good quality text quite quickly.Photos take a little bit to print, but not to long.

Thought I would upgrade, but nothing beat my i455
I bought this printer with a Canon digital camera in an inexpensive bundle.I quickly outgrew the camera, so I figured I had to upgrade my printer as well.I tried a few other printers which were highly touted by the imaging gurus, but they didn't do any better than this one. I don't know how much I would have to spend to beat my i455.
Mine's worthless
In a year I haven't managed to convince it to print a dozenpages for me.I've repeated contacted Canon about it's problems looking for help but they just try to sell me more stuff. With very solid Canon name I'm very diappointed with this.
very nice indeed
Well simply put if u on abudgetthis printer is 4 u... the ink ain expensive at all and the print quality is outstanding and very quick I might add. BUY IT!!

Great Pictures
It took a lot of searching before I decided to purchase a good printer and this one is a great one. The pictures are clear and they print fast. I showed them to friends and didn't tell them that I printed them at home and they were very surprised when I told them. Spend the extra money and get a good printer. This printer also include photo ink, which is really needed for a clean print. Make sure you also get the right paper.
Great printer
I acquired an S830D recently.
A great choice
... That said, I'm very happy with this printer. Other reviews, like the one on C|Net, have faulted the printer for mediocre text printing. I can't really address that complaint...have a laser printer for text and only use the S830 for printing photos and I'm very, very happy with how it performs that function. It's fast, I like being able to replace the ink cartridges separately, supports Exif if your digital camera outputs the encrypted data and the pictures are indistinguishable from those printed conventionally. It's the perfect color printer for my advanced amateur needs.

Go to Canon USA's Website for Drivers!
This is a good quality printer with 2 major restrictions.First, the printer, printer paper & cartridge packs, and additional paper trays for labels and such are expensive.Second, the largest it prints is 4"x6".
Spectacular results
For me (Windows XP Home edition), everything worked perfectly out of the box.Within 15 min of opening the box, I had pictures that easily beat the 1 hour photo machines in both detail and color.(I have a 6mp DSLR.)I used an SD card reader to transfer files from the camera to the computer, then used the Microsoft print wizard in MS Photo Manager to quickly size and send the print. This is a great tool to have for getting beautiful snapshots quickly. It is a little pricey as noted in earlier reviews because special paper and dye-sub materials are required but the quality easily beats my Epson C84 IJ and Lexmark Z805 IJ.I will probably use one of the on-line services for bulk printing because they are much cheaper but I always have the capability for something right away when I want it.
It can be fast.
I used this printer with my Digital Rebel. It fed the paper almost immediately and started the printing process.Photos were done quickly.I find it valuable when visiting friends and family.I am able to leave photographic memories immediately. As for the price of photos, I don't print every photo that I take, only ones that I can't wait to print before I get home on my computer. This is definitely a nice little tool that can even be put in your camera bag.Don't expect to find cheaper replacement ribbons on the third party printer cartridge sites.

A review 5 years down the line
My brother bought a Canon BJC-8200, five years ago, and after a while he outgrew it and passed it onto me.It's amazing that a printer that was created in 2000 can produce pictures (and regular documents) with such a high quality even by 2005 standards. It amazes me that in the time that I've used this printer, I've gone through 3 different computers.I figured it was about time that I sang it's praises.
Improve the Ink!!!
I specifically wanted this printer for photos and the quality is certainly very good. However, the inks used by Canon have very little UV protection and are susceptible to fading fairly quickly in a sunlit room.Otherwise, I had some minor installation problems and the printer is on the slow side, especially compared to my Lexmark. The Canon has superior color accuracy and it is a pleasure not to have to pay $(...)+ for ink refills.I would not recommend it for daily black and white typing duties, but for photos it is a superior product.
cartridge and paper buying difficulties
This is a great printer, but I am having a hard time buying paper or ink cartridges other than on the web.At say, Circuit City or Office Max, almost all of the paper is for ink jets. The only Canon paper I have seen is the Canon Glossy Photo Paper, which is OK, but not as good as Photo Paper Pro.I did find BCI-5 ink cartridges at Circuit City, but these are discontinued and there were no BCI-6s in sight.

Canon printers rock!
I bought this in a fit of dispair after yet another battle of errors with my hideously expensive Epson printer-copier-scanner.The print quality on the Canon is just as good, and the function is better, as the Epson would take either no pages or 5 pages at once. And for all that the quality is good, Canon's not a ink-drinker, either.
First Class Quality at Low Price
Replaced my Epson Photo Printer.Ink cartridge are readily available and dirt cheap.Epson was not as good.Cons:I find it a bit slow.
LOVE IT!!!!!
I upgraded to this printer, from cannon 4400, was good deal on this printer, only takes 2 brands of ink, color 24 and black, very, very good in pictures, and I dont have to wait to download my pictures anymore, from kodak software that takes forever, and sometimes kodak softweare dosent work right.
