5-0 out of 5 stars Serious Amateur
I love this camera! This is my 3rd digital upgrade since beginning with digital cameras. I am not a pro in photography, and have no real desire to get into the nitty gritty of apatures and all the tech stuff... but I care deeply about getting some great pictures. SO.. I deal as much as I have to with the technical. I especially love candid people shots, and do a lot of indoor photography in places where constant flash is undesirable, such as weddings and other church services.
4-0 out of 5 stars A pretty good camera
I bought this camera back in May of 2004, and I have not had any problems since. One thing I have learned is that mega pixels are not everything. I bought my father a 4MP minolta S414 and the pictures are not as sharp as my camera. I think that has something to do with the lense. The long zoom is very nice. Up until today I never printed out a picture bigger than 8X10 Today I paid for a picture to be blown up to 16X20 and it looks pretty darn good. Certain things like the hand grip and resolution could be improved (and they have been with the newer models) I was thinking of replacing this camera with something like the FZ20, FZ30 orthe new 8MP samsung with the 3.5" screen. However after seeing how nice my 16X20 blow up turned out to be, I think I will keep it for a while.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!!!

Editorial Review

Featuring a 5-megapixel CCD sensor, the DMC-FX7 (in black finish) delivers a wide range of detail and color with images up to 2560 x 1920 pixels--enough information to make photo-quality prints up to 13 by 17 inches. The Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 3x zoom lens, with 3 aspheric elements, combines comfortably small size with superb image rendering. By combining with a 4x digital zoom, users will have an equivalence of a 12x zoom lens in a very compact body, though users should note that digital zoom degrades picture quality. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars sv-ap10, frustrating
i bought one of these photo printers when i was overseas in dubai, probably one of the only places to get it i guess. while the printer makes wonderful photographs, i could not get the television option to work, so i have to use my laptop, no big deal. the real problem is finding replacement cartridges. not sure if i ever will! would recommend a kodak or something easier to find here in the states. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars USB driver update for XP
I have used this digital camera for several years and LOVE the large hard drive for saving images. I have now taken over 5000 pictures of my daughter (from birth to 2 1/2 years of age.) I have used ONLY three SuperDisks, and I haven't had to delete anything yet. This is a GREAT feature. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great General Use Camera- Easy to Use
Bought this camera used based on another review at this site.If you like itsy-bitsy cameras, this one is not for you.If you like a decent-sized camera (that can't get lost in your wallet!!!) this is for you.5-0 out of 5 stars A sad day... YES this item has been discountinued.
I bought this camera back when it was brand new and paid over $750 for it. It has served me well. I have take over 5,000 pics atleast with this camera... recently I upgraded my MAC OS to 10.3 well my super dish external drive no longer worked... but I pulled out my USB cable and turn it to PC and was able to still use my camera to down load my images. I spent a couple of hours today looking at replacement digital cameras (before I relize about the USB cable). I was really disappointed really with what is out there. Most used AA batteries which will only last a couple of hours and you throw away. The only thing close to this camera is a CDR/CDRW camera by SONY sd350 and higher... problem is the same with this camera... it uses special 3" disks... which might be outdated in a couple of years... if that. All the cameras out there use those cheap little memory chips... I can just see me losing a $100 chip now or breaking the stupid thing. Yeah this camera is BIG but it is rugged for a digital... I plan on using this camera for as long as it last.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great brand, Great Camera, Video AND pics... it rocks!
I've had quite a few digital cameras... this is one of my favorites.I like the shape... easy to hold with no-slip rubber grip.It uses SD cards... what i have found to be the most reliable form of flash media cards out there. But my favorite thing about this camera is that it doesn't have a fancy-schmancy proprietary battery. It uses AA batteries. This means that YOU can choose to use rechargables if you want... but you will never be stuck with no battery because you can get AA batteries pretty much anywhere.Panasonic is a name I really trust. It's not some no-name brand.I especially like that this cam can take Photos AND movies.... and you can do both on the same SD card if you want!A versitile camera easy enough for a beginner...and has enough options for an experienced user.I recommend this product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Reconsider--
I went with this camera because it seemed like a good value... 4 months later, after using the camera only a handful of times, the LCD would not light up for no reason at all. I immediately brought it back to the store that I had purchased it from since it was still under warranty. The store (Office Max) informed me that I had to deal with panasonic directly. I had to pay to ship/insure it by mail to Panasonic's service centre... soon after I received a phone call that they needed a credit card number to do the repairs. They stated that the warranty covered parts only and that the labor would be additional. Basically they told me that there was a standard charge of $228 U.S. to fix it... they were not however able to tell me what the problem was.I figured that since I was meticulous about taking proper care of the camera that the problem would have had to be very minor AND it was only 4 months old... I sent a letter complaining about my service and the quality of the camera to the manager at their facitlity. Soon after I received the camera back-- still broken. They didn't bother fixing it nor did they respond to my letter.4-0 out of 5 stars Great Features for the Price
I purchased this camera about 6 months ago and love it... although it does chew through batteries, I have discovered that if I buy Energizer E-2 or similar batteries designed for digital equipment they last MUCH longer. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Better Alternatives Are Available
Like most purchasers of camcorders, I had my first child last August. Thus, I decided to buy a camcorder to take hours of video that I will never watch again. On the other hand, if I didn't buy a camcorder, I would be a horrible parent, right? 2-0 out of 5 stars Very dissatisfied with video quality
I used to have a SONY Hi-8 (TRV 87). I think that produced far crisper images than this, supposedly "digital" PV-DV 101 from Panasonic. The picture quality here is unexpectedly grainy. Low light recording is awful, even with their low light setting turned on. Once the 20X optical zoom is at its max, digital zoom doesn't kick in automatically. You actually have to hit a digital zoom button to get it on. This can cause an awful interruption in your recording. Also, this camcorder doesn't come with an electric adapter (it is optional and you have to buy it separately). Thumbs down on my behalf. [The still photo shot was impressive, though!]

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but could be better!
This is good video camera however it desperately needs more features. This is the perfect camera for a person who doesn't like special features. Despite the flaws, it is a great machine for the price! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars High quality and versatility
I have purchased and installed 4 of these cameras in 2 offices in 2 different cities. I can login to each camera seperately from anywhere there is an Internet connection and see/hear what is going on. This camera has a fairly intuitive web interface. Also, if you have programming skills, Panasonic has released a kind of sdk that allows one to write code that controls the cameras as well as integrate camera output to your own web pages. The picture quality is outstanding and the zoom is phenomenal. I can zoom in and read 12pt. text on something that is 10ft away! Installing the cameras on your network is wizard-based and fairly simple. My network uses Linksys routers which are uPnP capable so the port forwarding is done automagically with this camera. I have had to use the free Viewnetcam service that comes with the camera because I have dynamic IP addressing, but have found it to work fine and is pretty reliable. A word of caution though; Panasonic support for this camera seems to be out of Japan and is done through email. Other than that, the camera is wonderful, but may be way overkill for simple webcam use... ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars SECOND time mine has broken down--'Dew Detection Error'...
I am furious.
1-0 out of 5 stars Sadly Disappointed
Took this on trip of a lifetime to Japan. PV-DV203 didn't make it back alive. The miniDVs started popping out while recording and finally stopped recording altogether. Upon return, replaced PV-DV203 with the PV-GS15 and tried to run the miniDVs from the trip. Picture and sound quality terrible with a lot of skipping and poor auto-focus. Hoping PV-GS15 is an upgrade.

I got the same "Dew Detected" problem as another reviewer noted, and if you do a quick search on any search engine, you will find that this is a very, very common problem with this camera. I now own a very expensive paperweight. ... Read more
