1-0 out of 5 stars front door breaks too easily do not buy--olympus customer service sucks
DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERAWARNING!!!!!!!The front door that is used to turn the power on to take pictures breaks too easily--Olympus customer service will do nothing to help.If you look on the web multiple people say they have the same problem which equals a design flaw and they will not help. The $300 plus I paid is in the garbage and Olympus wants $$$$ to fix it and will do nothing to keep a customer. As far as I am concerned I am running the camera over with my car and NEVER BUYING AN OLYPUS AGAIN.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good point and shoot camera.
I've had my Olympus Stylus 400 since Christmas of 2003 and take it everywhere I go. It's compact size allows me to stick it in my pocket if I want to. It has been a rugged little camera. I do a lot of camping and hiking and have dropped it on rocks before and it keeps on taking great pictures. I originally bought it for the fact that you could buy an optional waterproof case. I wanted that feature so I could use it while participating in water sports, it worked great in those situations too. The outdoor picture quality is exceptional for a point and shoot camera. I use another camera for serious photography but this camera takes extremely good photos for someone looking for a simple to use camera. The XD memory cards were expensive at first but they have gone up in capacity and down in price.
1-0 out of 5 stars Versatility Nil
This may be OK for taking snapshots of your friends or kids around a birthday cake, but it does not perform well in most situations.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible!!!
I had the recorder exactly 31 days before it stopped working entirely... I would NEVER have bought this item had I read these reviews first. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
I have owned three of these "machines" and each time, they stop working after lessthatn a week for no reason. I wish I could post no stars.4-0 out of 5 stars Fairly Suitible as an Analog Recorder
I don't understand the three one-star reviews on this product.I remember purchasing this recorder in probably Sep, Oct, or Nov, 2001 and have been pretty happy with it.I've played around with it a few times here and there, and overall it's not too bad.The microcassette tapes are pretty inexpensive; like $4.99 I believe for 3 microcassettes. The speaker is loud enough to hear the playback most of the time, and the microphone is at a convenient spot on the top of the recorder.Read more

Editorial Review

An upgrade to Olympus' respected (and discontinued) C-2020, the C-2040 incorporates all of its predecessor's features plus a faster lens, easier connection to your computer, and improved image processing. The fast f1.8-2.6 lens is clearly the central feature of the new model. According to Olympus, the lens lets the C-2040 shoot in lower light conditions, which allows you to shoot flash-free in more situations and increases the effective range of the flash. The 2.11 megapixel CCD in the C-2040 captures images at a resolution of 1600 x 1200, in both the JPEG and uncompressed TIFF formats, and an 8 MB internal buffer allows you to shoot at 1.4 frames per second at high resolution and low compression levels. Additionally, the camera can record short QuickTime movies with sound. Read more

  • 2.11 megapixel sensor creates 1600 x 1200 images for prints at sizes up to 8 x 10
  • 3x optical plus 2.5x digital zoom lens with autofocus
  • Included 8 MB SmartMedia memory card holds 16 images at default resolution
  • Connects with Macs and PCs via USB port
  • Uses 2 CR-3V lithium batteries, included, or 4 AA batteries, not included

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this camera!
I own this camera and have used it for almost 3 years now.It has been through Christmas, Easter, Birthdays, Anniversaries, trips to Yellowstone and Disney World.I always get the best pictures. The pictures my husband and I took at Yellowstone were phenomenal. They rivaled many of the post cards we saw for sale, especially of the Lower falls. This is a very easy point and shoot type camera.I only wish the optical zoom was greater than 3X.

5-0 out of 5 stars great camera
I have had this camera for around two years now. I am in the military and travel alot. I have used the heck out of this thing. It has never failed me. It provides wonderful pictures. I just bought the remote and am looking forward to trying it out. The one down side is: nothing. I did buy a usb smartmedia reader for PC. It sped up the download from the camera like crazy. That is a must. The supplied software is not the best though. It does often lock up my system. And I have a very up to date system.5-0 out of 5 stars It can be as simple or complicated as you want
The Olympus C-2040 has been nothing short of perfect for my first digital camera. It can be wonderfully simple for the point and shoot photographers, and it can also be set up for more complicated shots (adjusting shutter speeds, ISO, and many other things that can go over a tourist photographer's head)Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good camera for a beginner
This camera is pretty good. I've updated mine since because I don't think 4 megapixels is enough, but if it's enough for you, good!
3-0 out of 5 stars Good for amateurs and beginners
I just test-ran this camera all day:
4-0 out of 5 stars My first digital
My husband bought me this camera recently as he was tired of me always borrowing his.I love it.I didn't want too much camera for beginning and this one is so very user friendly. The display is a good size and very accurate. The pictures from using the zoom are not distorted. Downloading the pictures to my computer is very, very easy. I like the various features, and changing them is a two step process, but not difficult at all. The batteries do go down fairly quickly, but no more than my husband's Kodak.I haven't used the movie mode at this time.

4-0 out of 5 stars NICE!
We have been usning this camera for over a year with excellect results. Works well both indoor and out. VERY small and lightweight, easy to take along. View feature on a button is especially handy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Indoors
This camera is great, as long as you use it outside on a sunny day.Indoors, this camera is horrible, no matter what setting you use, flash or no flash, etc...The pictures will be terribly grainy, fuzzy, un-viewable.My parents own the same camera, so I know mine is not a lemon.Theirs is also horrible. We will both be returning these cameras. Its unfortunate, becuase I also own a D-550 which works great.Olympus must have changed the recipe.
1-0 out of 5 stars don't be cheated
This camera is a terrible one, it is unable to take a simple clear piture, no less than satisfied picture. In a word, it is the worst one I ever met. Don't be cheated!!! Don't waste your money. It definitely will waste your time too, as it take you half day to call for the Return Authorization, and mail it to merchant. Don't be so foolish as me!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for taking just 4" x 6" pictures...
I recommend for those who like using APS cameras to first try the one-time use verisons before buying this one.I have used two one-time use Kodak Advantix cameras, 35 mm single use, Poloraid instant camera, and 28 mm or 110 Kodak Cameo Camera. But I seem to like having more options and this is what came up.However, the Olympus i Snap APS camera doesn't have the Panamoric view, nor the Print H type available...just the Print C type available and that is 4" x 6" print type available on this camera.I remember paying alot to have a few panamoric prints being processed and that didn't come cheap. So, if you want three Print types available, then buy a used Kodak Advantix Camera instead of this one. Also, I think the resulting prints depends on what brand name film cartidge you use, the lighting, and how the exposed film is temporaily stored before it is taken in to be processed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stylish but bad pictures
I think that this is a terrible camera. Even though it is very stylish, it takes bad pictures. Even if you have bright lighting the pictures look dark. I would not suggest buying this camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hip and Stylish Camera
Even at the age of 12, I think this camera would be great for kids, because its easy to reload film into and it's not hard to work with.I think it's a pretty cool camera, because there is color to it instead of the plain old normal gray and black. You don't have to worry about you're kids breaking a hundred dollar camera the first time they you use it.I would give this product a five star rating. ... This is the best pocket camera I have ever owned. It is easy to use and takes great pictures.Just slide back the lens cover and it's ready to shoot.Almost idiot-proof!

1-0 out of 5 stars Froze up at the worst possible moment
I purchased this camera in August of 98, and moved overseas. In January '99, my eighty-one year old father was riding on the back of an elephant in Thailand. When I went to take a shot of this once in a lifetime event, thecamera lens froze in the out position and would not take a picture.Amoment lost forever!Attempts to get the camera fixed overseas werefutile, as they would not honor a US warranty.I sent several emails toOlympus asking some direction but received no response.5-0 out of 5 stars If you buy only one camera, this is the best

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Camera with a Great Telephoto Lens
The camera is compact, solid but light, and very easy to use. The images are very good to excellent. All the features seems to work just fine. The telephoto lens really brings images in. Its relative resistance to water-spray helps with boating photography. So far it has worked without a hitch. Though I own a digital camera, I believe that a film camera like this is still preferable for travel or for taking many pictures in a short time. All you have to do is plop a new film in and keep going, and then drop it off for development and you will end up with photos that will not fade out in a few years. I highly recommend this Olympus for an uncomplicated way of handling photography in an economical fashion and ending up with excellent results.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very nice camera, BUT....
We have bought six Olympus's for our large family of grown children. They are easy to use, relatively inexpensive, and compact. But, they have a major flaw.On three of the six cameras we have bought, the lins cover has broken and this prevents the camera from operating. The authorized service places in Houston Texas say they can not get the parts to repair this product deficiency.

5-0 out of 5 stars the love affair continues
I got this camera used as a gift from my stepfather, and it has been a love affair ever since.Having never used another digital camera I assumed that most cameras were just as fun.I have since realized that this thing is a gem. It is now 2004 and it is discontinued and seems to be going up in market value. The thing that I love the most about the camera after using other cameras is that it will take the picture when you press the button!!!!That is sooo important...the child turns to look at the camera and you have the picture! The other thing I love about it is that I can take night pictures with it. The camera doesn't question my judgement...it will let me shoot in pitch black and then I can take it back to the computer and pull the image out digitally.... They are selling much fancier cameras now...but I want another one of these..(even though mine is working fine)

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality lasts!!...
I've had this camera for nearly 4 yaers and it is as good as new.Easy to use with all the features you will ever need -great picture quality after over a thousand pictures. If this camera ever dies, I will surely buy another Olympus.

5-0 out of 5 stars The D-450 - Probably The Best In It's Class!
This camera is simply awesome. Take it from me, I'm no stranger to digital photography. I was using my Sharp digital camcorder to take digital still pictures but I was not very impressed with the results. Moreover, a camcorder is too bulky to haul around. So I decided to go with a smaller camera. I did a lot of research before settling on the D-450 camera from Olympus. Read more

Editorial Review

Available in three colors--Kosmic Kiwi (lime green), Rocket Ruby (pinkish) and Sonic Sky (powder blue)--the Olympus i Snap APS camera is stylish, lightweight, and compact. It comes with a high-quality fixed-focus 24mm Olympus lens and automatic flash with red-eye reduction. Designed with the youth market in mind, this kit includes fun accessories like a see-through camera strap, a see-through camera case with a hook so you can hang it from a belt or bag, and an inflatable 3.5 x 5-inch picture frame that promises not to shatter. The complete package also includes a CR2 battery, APS film, and photo tips booklet. Because the camera uses the Advanced Photo System (APS), you just drop the film in and shoot--no loading, no worries. You can even have your film developed in three different print format sizes: classic 4 x 6-inch, HDTV 4 x 7-inch, and panoramic 4 x 11.5-inch. ...

You don't have to worry about you're kids breaking a hundred dollar camera the first time they you use it.I would give this product a five star rating. ...
