5-0 out of 5 stars Surprised At The Quality
I have several Minolta lenses to use on my Maxxum 9 and Maxxum 7 cameras and I use this lens frequently if I'm doing wide-angle images. To be perfectly honest, when I first bought this lens I was skeptical about how it would perform. I have shot several hundred rolls of film through this lens and I am generally quite pleased. It does very well for a lens that is rather inexpensive. It is lightweight (a welcome feature) and works very nicely indeed. I strongly recommend this lens for those wanting a short zoom lens in the wide angle area.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good lens
I had minolta maxxum st si camera and this lens is a perfect match for that silver color camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flexibilty for my HTsi Plus
This lens not only looks great, but is an outstanding performer on my Minolta HTsi Plus. This matchin silve lens and body is a nice touch, but should not be mistaken for quality. This lens is much wider than the 30mm or 35mm lenses many cameras come with and a f3.5 is relatively fast compared to other lenses like it on the market. It's large 62mm filter ring size also give you flexibility with your other lenses.Just by 62mm filters and step-up rings for your other lenses.I have been very happy with the lens, and highly recomend it. ... I have a two Minolta SLR cameras. An STi and a QTi.I broke the lens on the first and bought the second because it cost almost as much to buy a replacement lens as it did to just buy a new camera. At this price, I can replace the original lens and have two cameras.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
Im sorry I would have to disagree with the last comments. I am a semi-professional photographer and unless you want to spend big on 2.8 lenses, this is one of the sharpest lenses around bar none!

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Minolta Lens on Amazon
This is a medium quality lens in the Minolta line. It's user ratings are generally 3 out of 5 stars for clarity.I would consider it the lower endof the better range in the Minolta line.I've shot with it and beenpleased. If you are buying a minolta camera for it's lens quality, this isthe only lens I would buy from Amazon. If you are buying minolta becauseit's a value compared to other SLR's and just want something better than apoint and shoot, you probably want one of the lower end lenses offered onAmazon. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very good all-around lens
I purchased this lens for use with a Minolta 600si body. This was my first experience using either a zoom or an autofocus lens as I have been an ardent "manual" equipment photographer for over 40 years. Well, I am very surprised to find this piece of glass a pleasure to work with and I now use it for most of my photos. The mechanics have worked flawlessly and the photos are clear and sharp. I do find the lens rather "slow", although at f3.5-4.5 it is still faster than most zoom lenses in this price range (maybe I've been spoiled by my faster fixed lenses). I therefore use 800 ASA film. The lens mates very well with the Minolta camera, is well balanced and lightweight. For the money it is an excellent choice for wide-angle to portraits and low power zoom. All in all I find the lens to be an excellent choice for an "all purpose" lens.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great lens!
Great versatility.A little more than the 28-80 but worth it for the timeyou save changing the lens and greater scope it gives you in pictures. Consider buying just the body of the camera and fixing it up with this lensrather than going with the standard 28-80. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice lens
Use this, only if you're shooting something larger than a house. The regular setting on the camera will take wide shots nicely. Keep in mind, this lens is a monster! It has it's own bag & covers that come with it, a nice feature. Also, set your camera to W when you use this lens. It helps.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Lens, but I wish it were faster
I love my Minolta HTsi Plus, and the matching lens makes a very nice combo.I bought the lens shortly after I bought the camera and it looks great. This two-touch lens is very easy to operate and the autofocus is fast, but sometimes not quite as fast as you might like it.The speed I was refering to in the title is not the Auto Focus speed, but the maximum aperature of the lens.At f4.5-5.6 you don't have a ton of flexibility. As my love for photography has increased I have felt limited by this, having to choose faster film, or longer exposures. If this isn't a concern to you then I highly recomend this lens.Otherwise, there are some great new zooms on the market you may want to look at before choosing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Pictures
Played around with someone else's lens.I can't seem to find one in stockanywhere in Silver. All I see is the black one.Read more
