4-0 out of 5 stars Nice lens for the price
The Canon EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM is great lens for its price. I highly recommend this lens to those that have just gotten into using a DSLR camera.

2-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for ...
This is a re-tread of Canon's APS 55-200 lens. It complements the 18-55 that comes with the Digital Rebel, but doesn't really have much else going for it.So-so image quality, and cheap plastic/poor quality construction. In general, a wobbly lens is NOT a good thing!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a cap is a cap is a cap
I can't help but give the lens cap 5 stars, what can I say, it fits, it covers the lens and keeps the dust out. The bad part about purchasing from this place was paying as much in postage as for the cap itself but it was hard to find elsewhere. I also could not have it delivered here on Fort Wainwright Alaska because I'm only allowed a PO Box so I had to have it shipped to my home in New York and then had them send it on to me-go figger. ... Features

  • Since the lens is designed exclusively for digital SLR photography, it provides high image quality in terms of resolution, contrast and flatness of image field
  • It employs a new optical system designed to confine the changing angles of incidences of light rays reaching the imager within a certain scope over the entire image field from the center to the periphery, by considering the effects of variances due to zooming
  • Peripheral light fall-off is minimized when compared with that of conventional lenses for film cameras so that images are uniformly bright from the center to the periphery
  • Complicated mechanisms are built in the compact body thanks to new mechanical artifices. The lens is a multi-purpose zoom lens, yet excellent portability and ease of use are assured. A number of invisible engineering innovations required to downsize the lens, produce high precision parts and increase durability are incorporated in the new AF18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) MACRO since manufacturing this type of zoom lens with such complicated mechanisms inside was almost impossib
  • The Zoom Lock prevents unwanted barrel extension when carrying the lens/camera combination

5-0 out of 5 stars A really sweet long lens
I've been using this lens about six years. In all that time, I can't remember ever shooting at any aperture smaller than f/5.6.It's amazingly sharp wide open and I've never had any reason to stop it down. When I first bought it, I used it on a tripod almost all the time. These days, I've started using it handheld and I can appreciate how well it handles. In good light, autofocus is fast and accurate. In low brightness and low contrast light, it gets a little slow and sometimes hunts. Not a real problem, just switch off the autofocus and use the superb manual focus ring.Images snap in and out of focus easily whether you do the focusing or you let the lens do it.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of Canon's Classic prime L's
I've had this lens for about two weeks and it is truly one of Canon's classic L primes.I got it for nature shoots and it has produced "WOW" results. Don't worry about the f/5.6. It's as sharp at that as many lenses are a f/8.It's in the class of the 35L and the 135L.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just a great lens!
I have ordert this lens, and i am convinsed i have made the right choise.. I have read many reviews about this lens, and all what people said about it have come true.. Its very sharp and you don't need to stop it down to get better results. Straight from aperture 5.6 it is razorsharp! Light and well build and the build in hood is splended!

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well.
Works as advertised. Be aware that when using the flash with the lens it will cast a shadow in the picture. Also your view through the view finder will be partially blocked, but you can always use the LCD screen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wide Angle Fun
First off this is a fun accessory for my A95 and A80. At about 26mm lens you can shoot some very nice wide angle landscapes to close-ups for under $100. The lens is sharp and is a nice piece of coated class. Once mounted you zoom lens works inside the adapter so you probably have a 26mm to 40mm (total guess)zoom lens. Yes it does have barrel distortion, yes it does stick out and block the flash, yes it is black and it does look a bit dorky on the camera. So either go buy a digital rebel and a 19-35 zoom for over $1000 or correct the barrel distortion in your image editing program, use a slaved flash for indoor shooting (manual mode only) and paint it silver.
3-0 out of 5 stars Beware - LEAVE IT OFF when taking panoramas
To add to the precedent astute comments - the barrel distortion will prove a particularly nasty surprise if you happen to leave the lens on when taking panoramic shots - it will likely render the photo-stitching software useless and you will spend hours prodding and stitching the pics together yourself.I found this out the hard way after coming back from a Paris vacation with 50+ panoramas! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good lens but better options exist
Especially in the Canon line up.Buy the 70-200 F/2.8L at similar price or F/2.8L IS at a bit more, and get a few extension tube (you can get a set of 3 Kenko extension tube for around $170 at 12mm, 20mm and 36mm), you will get a fantastic zoom telephoto lens and a far more versatile package. With the 70-200mm zoom lens, you get all the focal length not just the 180mm.If macro is desired choose an extension tube or any combination of extension tubes, you get so much more choices in focus distance and magnification factor combinations, it's mind boggling. If you go with the IS 70-200mm lens, you get the benefit of the image stablizing when taking Macro as well to reduce the camera shake effect. The combination of the 70-200mm family with a set of extension tubes are a far better choice if local focal length macro photography is wanted.

5-0 out of 5 stars Big, Heavy, Sharp
When this lens is used with a 1.6X camera body such as the XT, 20D, or 30D it ends up giving you an amazing 288mm Macro or you can go one step further with the 1.4x or 2X TC's and make it a 403/576mm super power.Of course whenever doing this you must either use a tripod or flash except in blazing light. It is a little slow to focus compared to many of the other lenses canon offers, but since you will most likely be using manual focus a lot of the time anyway, this is not a huge drawback. It also gets heavy to carry after a few hours and you will have people ask you questions about both your and their cameras. On a good note parents are pretty good about keeping small children out of your way when you have this lens mounted. The narrower background as compared to the 60mm or 100mm macro lenses makes cluttered areas easier to deal with. The extra working distance is also a plus when working with wary insects etc.It is best to use a shutter release and mirror lockup for shutter speeds longer than 1/30 if you want sharp pictures. The 60mm Macro wins in convenience, but for absolute clarity and improved working distance the 180 comes out on top.

5-0 out of 5 stars Canon's Best Macro Lens
I spend most of my time as a photographer taking macro photographs of flowers and other small things in nature.I chose this lens over Canon's 50mm macro and 100mm macro for two reasons: (1) it is constructed with higher quality UD glass, so it has great color and contrast, and it's incredibly sharp at all f/stops, and (2) at 180mm, it allows you to stay farther away from your subjects and still focus to 1:1.This makes it easier take photographs without disturbing your subjects and it allows you to have a smaller, more blurry area in the background so that the background doesn't compete with the subject for attention. The lens also comes with a tripod color, which allows you conveniently change from vertical to horizontal, and it adds stability with your lens better balanced on your tripod.

Editorial Review

The Canon EF 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens has multiple moving lens groups that enhance image quality and make the whole system more compact and lightweight. This lens uses an ultrasonic focusing motor (USM) that gives you silent, high-speed autofocusing. Canon eliminated all the mechanical couplings in this lens and added a custom-designed autofocus motor as well as a microprocessor.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars High quality mid-grade consumer lens
The Canon 24-85 lens is a fantastic lens...as long as you shoot pictures knowing its limitations. The first thing to remember is that unless you want to shell out the money for an "L" series lens, you are not going to get perfectly sharp pictures with the lens wide open (meaning at f/3.5 in this lenses case). You need to step it down to about f/6.3-f/7.1 for the crystal clear pictures.I tried shooting pictures at wide angle while wide open, and I ran into the problems that another reviewer discussed - namely soft pictures.Stepped down, I get pictures that rival the quality of my 50 f/1.8 (aka the "nifty fifty" or "plastic fantastic").It is also very light, and according to numerous reviews I have read, has outstanding center performance. This is a big deal on a crop camera, because it only uses the center part of the lens, anyway. So, if you have a 10, 20, 30, 300, or 350D, this lens should be a winner for you.
4-0 out of 5 stars Beginners: Good lens but don't buy it!
I bought my first SLR camera about two and a half years ago ( a Rebel K2 film camera with kit lens ) before the birth of my daughter. As I became more familiar with photography and hungrier for better picture quality I bought the very cheap 50mm f/1.8 lens and was impressed by how much better the picture quality was.
2-0 out of 5 stars not up to specs
I was very disappointed with this lens. It has a very cheap feel and the image quality was terrible. I was only able to test it with my Canon 20d and not with film. I couldn't believe how lousy it was, I had read some other reviews and they seemed positive. I tried it on a tripod and shot a variety of things text and 3-D objects and never could pull a sharp photo. I noticed that I had to use a lot more unsharp mask than normal to be useable. I tend to use primes a lot and so maybe I expected to much. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Super "L" Lens, Price not too Bad Either
There is nothing like a telephoto to bring boats at anchor up close when you're halfway up a mountain. I got a great shot in Tahiti just that way with just this lense and a friend of mine used it on the cover of her romance novel. It's true the lense is heavy. Canon says it weighs 1.7 pounds, but it seems heavier. No matter though, because you won't have to go to the gym if you heft this baby around for awhile, and as a side benifit, you'll get crisper, sharper photos then you would with any other 200mm out there today. Just think of it as body building and photo shooting both at the same time. Also this one won't break your wallet.
5-0 out of 5 stars An "L" Tele for a reasonable price
Canon L lenses are known for their great optics and priceyness. This fast tele is an excellent value. The only thing that would improve this lens would be the addition of the image stabilizion feature found on a few Canon optics.Of course, the advantage of large aperature lenses is that you can set a fast shutter speed and still have enough light for a shot. This lens is surprisingly compact, (as long focal length teles go).The autofocus is very fast and quiet.Comes with a hood, too.

3-0 out of 5 stars I'm sending it back.
I bought this lens for use on my 80-400mm lens. Since the 80-400 has a minimum focusing distance of like 8 feet, I thought the 500D would help get me in closer, even though I can get great closeups from 8ft at 400mm. But what the 500D does is give you an extremely limited focusing range, and focusing is easier accomplished by moving the camera than the focusing ring, which kind of defeats the benefit of having it on a long lens. Am I making sense?

5-0 out of 5 stars Up Close and Personal ...
The Canon 500D 77mm Close Up Lens does the job for getting up close and personal. Highly recommended for macro if you have a 77mm lens. I use my Canon 20D DSLR and the Canon 100-400mm IS USM and the 500D works great with them.

It worked well but I am not sure what its function is.It seems to me that the camera could have been designed so that the zoom lens could fit without having to attach an adapter. The problem is that you have to remove the existing cowling from the camera and hope you do not loose it (which I almost did).

1-0 out of 5 stars This dont work with G3
I bought this accesory thinkingthat itwas compatible with the Canon powershot G3 (because it is in the list of accesories for this camera) but it doesnt work with the G3. Buyers beware. If you have a G3 you should buy a LA-DC58B instead.

2-0 out of 5 stars My [two cents worth]
I have this adapter just in the need that I want to use the special effect filters..it serves this purpose very well, however, I've also noticed some drawbacks that annoy me quite often.4-0 out of 5 stars Good if you have 58mm filters and Canon SLR Camera
This lens adapter has some advantages: 1- Wide opening (58mm) so reduce vignetting 2- Same filter size for Canon SLR like ELAN 7E, thus same filter set can be used for both Digital and film. 3- You can always keep it on the camera with an UV adapter, protecting your lens, don't forget the cap. Disadvantages: 1- Blocks viewfinder, you have to use LCD, which I always do because viewfinder never shows %100 coverage of real shot. 2- Blocks a slight portion of low light sensor, but I did some tests, it does not have much blockage and low light sensor works OK in my camera with this converter attached. 3- Blocks microphone, I did not test the effect of converter on microphone. Some notes: If you buy this converter, don't buy a non-coated filter because camera has an excellent coated lens, and you don't want to reduce your image quality with a [price] lens. Go for a [price] B+W or at least double coated hoya filter. ... Read more

Can someone make sense of this for me please?"""The smaller the maximum aperture, the smaller and lighter the lens.""" WTF?
3-0 out of 5 stars Canon's EF 35-80mm f/4-5.6 III...
At 6.2 Ounces, This Is The Lightest Compact Zoom Lens In The EF Line...An Excellent Value...The Aspherical Element Makes It Compact And Helps Obtain High Contrast Images...At The 80mm Length Is A Good First Step...Lead Free Glass Is Used...Great All Purpose Lens, And Cheap, But If You Can, Go For The 28-80mm Or The 28-200mm...They Will Give You Better Performance...4-0 out of 5 stars Small, Fast, but a little limited
So this is a great starter lens, it came with my canon body when I got my camera, and I've used it tons.It is light, smooth, fast to focus, and cheap. My only problem was the number of times I found myself stepping back because the 35mm end of the zoom wasn't wide enough.I now carry a 22-55 instead and love that lens (come on Amazon - get it in stock). If you're on a budget then this lens is great. If you can afford the little extra go for the 28-80 instead. ... Read more

It is little highly priced for the material. The adapter does not fit firmly to the camera (Canon S1 IS).Other than this it is ok,

To the previous reviewer: did you unscrew the ring on the outside of the lens before trying to attach the items?

1-0 out of 5 stars Does it really fit the canon S1 IS camera?
I just bought this from Amazon. I guess it is a good deal here.

Only problem is I live in Holland and have to have things sent to my daughter in the US and then forwarded since you don't ship overseas. Any hope that may change in the future?

4-0 out of 5 stars Canon 250D and 500D doublet achromat close-up lenses
The Canon 250D and 500D are doublet type close-up lenses which are corrected for chromatic abberation ("achromat"). They offer better performance than the less expensive singlet type lens. I have been happy with the performance of these lenses used on an EF 100mm/2.0, even when used stacked together for higher power (which Canon does not recommend). ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
Pretty much ditto to what the others below say. Thing looks cheap "the adaptor" and both mounted on my A510 make it look like a bazooka. One thing to remember is when you use the adaptor the flash becomes useless as the adaptor an lens hide about a third of it. "not that you could use a flash at that distance anyway". I also have the widw angle which I personally find alot more usefull for outdoor shots. One more thing to consider, did you buy your cam to be a national geographic wanna be and lug around a bunch of lens/filters etc or have fun taking point and shoot pics with the occansional manual mode ones thrown in?

3-0 out of 5 stars So-so, and some "bewares"
First off I must say I love my A95. It has the features I want (other than zoom range), plus the rather smallish size is nice after toting 3 SLR bodies and 6 lenses around for years. This telephoto conversion lens is nothing special though, and has some limitations.
