Its an okay lens at an okay price.
Being "old school" I was surprised that its made mostly of plastic (I suppose the benefit is reduced weight and lowered manufacturing costs, at the expense of durability).I guess that I shouldn't be surprised however as my new X-370s body is plastic too (unlike my old XG-2).Outdoor shots are sharp; indoor shots with flash are average.The zoom ring on my lens does not operate smoothly as there's a "notch" at about the 50mm mark.When I say that the price is okay (I paid [price])... ... Horrible internal battery life and customer service
I researched for months before buying this camera.While I am not a pro by any means I am pretty well versed in photography.My best friend owns a photography studio and I've taken numerous photography courses.I bought this for all the features it offered for a reasonable price.I charged the batteries exactly as suggested and read the book cover to cover before using. I took 22 pictures at my daughter's soccer game and the battery was dead.Thinking the batteries it came with were just cheap I went out and bought the best rechargeable batteries Best Buy sold.I charged them up and off I went to another game.Same think except I only took 15 pictures and the battery low signal came on and then nothing.I couldn't even turn the thing on.I called customer service and they required me to send it in for service.It was under warranty but I had to pay shipping.I got it back 6 weeks later with an accompanying phone call stating they could find nothing wrong, try it again.I charged the batteries again and this time took it to a wedding with an extra set of batteries.I took 19 pictures and the internal battery light came on and it went dead again.I called the customer service team and spoke with a manager this time.I demanded my money back stating that I hated this camera.He told me that I would have to send it back again before that could happen.Reluctantly I did and paid the shipping again.Another 4 weeks later I received it back with a phone call from the same manager.He said it worked fine for him but he sent me a new one anyway.This time they sent me their own batteries and charger valued at $100.Now, if you read the description it clearly states that you do not have to use special batteries and that's one of it's so called claims to fame.I tried the new batteries and I did get a little better results.I took 27 pictures and the internal battery went dead again.POS!!!!I took it to a local camera store and they couldn't even get it to turn on.They told me that the internal battery was completely dead and would have to be replaced by the company.I called the manager again.The camera repair store even wrote a letter stating the problem which I faxed to the company.They would not give me another camera or my money back.All they were willing to do was send me a third one and I would have to pay shipping to send the second one back.So, I have a completely dead camera which the camera repair folks can't even fix.I threw it in the trash.I might as well have crumpled up 4 $100 bills and threw them away.DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA.Finally after a very nasty letter to Minolta I received an apology letter but no offer to do anything different and a phone call from one of their "techies".He even admitted that the short internal battery life was a severe problem and many others had sent their cameras back for the same reason.
Didn't even make it a year!
I received this camera as a Christmas gift.I have enjoyed it a lot (up to now), and I take lots of pictures.Have missed lots of shots of the grandkids because of shutter lag or whatever the delay is called between pressing the shutter release and the photo being taken.But I've still gotten lots of great shots with it and was dealing with that little problem.

I like it
After about one month using this scanner, I am very happy with what I got for the money.In fact, I liked it so much I bought two! gets it done.
I like this scanner. It is very simple to operate for basic scanning, and it includes a great scanning software to help you with more complicated tasks. The value is incredible. I have printed my scans from this scanner in 13x19 size and larger with success. Digital ICE and Pixel Polish are two welcome features that you'll be thankful for. Compare this unit to similar from Nikon or Cannon and you'll see the value Minolta had thrown at you. Faulty design useless for serious work

The Best Camera I've ever owned.
I originally bought the Minolta X-700 in early 1985 while stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army. It had just won "Camera of the Year 1984" from an important consumer magazine. I bought it because I was very satisfied with another Minolta camera,the XG-7, that I had purchased six years before. Also, to be truthful, because the X-700 looks great! It turned out to be an excellent choice as I took thousands of excellent photos and especially color slides with it over the years. I used it in nearly every country in Europe, in a wide variety of conditions, and it never let me down. What makes this camera so great is that it offers an advanced amount of automation, but still gives the user a large degree of control. You can get off that quick shot, yet still be very creative. I was very disappointed with models that came out later. Unfortunately, my original camera was stolen, but I'm happy to find and buy a replacement from Amazon after all these years. Truly one of the best cameras ever made in its class, and one of the most durable and versatile.

You should learn photography with this camera
The X-700 is great for learning photography. It is manual but its beauty is in the various automated settings, which range from controlling everything except focus to fully manual. It is intuitive and easy to figure out, and comes with the reliability you'd expect from Minolta. The handiest feature that I enjoyed is the lightmeter readout in the viewfinder. In the various photography courses I've taken, I've found that it is superior to many other manual SLRs in that it has levels of convenience and automation that help you get a feel for photography, but still allows for the photographer to have complete freedom. I picked up this camera to replace my Canon AE-1 that froze (something gear related). At first I thought this was just another fully manual SLR but after doing some homework I discovered that not only does it function as such, which is nice in itself, but it has an Aperture-Priority Auto-Exposure Mode which automatically selects the proper shutter speed based on existing light conditions. It works brilliantly. I have taken this camera on hikes, diving trips and just about everywhere else and it has worked flawlessly.
