5-0 out of 5 stars vhorner
Great camera. After trying 5 other brands, this was the best.It isn't noted, but the camera also comes with a case and a battery.Zoom is very fast and retracts quickly.Flash is a bit slow, but given the other cameras on the market in terms of quality, speed of zoom (very important to me), small size, well-located viewfinder and easy to work/well located controls, a slightly slow flash is a trade-off I am willing to make.Like cars, there is nothing out there right now that is going to give you the whole perfect package - this camera is by far the best out there!

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy, yet affordable
This camera was very easy to learn how to use.I have never had pictures come out this clear and prestine.I highly recommend this camera for anyone who is not a professional photographer but wants professional quality.I love that this camera is small and will fit anywhere. It looks great too!I don't, however, recommend this camera for action shots. Too much of a delay.

3-0 out of 5 stars Get a Canon or Sony superzoom instead, your pictures will thank you
I bought the Dimage Z5 a few months ago as a portable backup to my Rebel XT for $199 from B&H photo. The idea was to take it to outdoor sporting events so I could zoom in on the action.Unfortunately, it never actually made it to the ballpark. While putting it through its paces during some outdoor festivals and backyard BBQ's, the pictures it took were not what I expected.Understand, I was not expecting the performace that I get from my SLR, in fact I would be quite angry if a compact camera could give me those kinds of images.I also was not expecting the noise problem that I had with virtually every shot.
4-0 out of 5 stars User Friendly Digital Camera & ExcellentVGA Video
I like this Camera for its ease of use. Good for amatures and for people like me who likes photography as a hobby. It does kind of short when it comes to some picture quality( just a little bit). but dont get me wrong! the photos are great, colors are lively ! but compare to DSLR- Digital Single Lens Reflex cameras with interchageable lenses this camera (Z5) is a little bit short in photo quality. If you're more of a Pro-hobbyist in photography this camera is not for you, better go for Nikon D50 or Canon Rebel XT. But for now, My DImage Z5 is all I need. The picture quality is close to my Nikon N6006 SLR Film Camera. It out performs my Nikon Coolpix 775, HP Photosmart E317 5.0 MPixels & Vivitar 3.0 MP. Im kind of a little bit dissapointed because after a few months that I bought it the newer Model Z6 arrives with the same price tag. The Z5 has a betterVGA Video ( 640 X 480 @ 15 or 30 fps) than the Z6 ( 320 x 240 @ 15 or 30 fps.)only. This is also one of the reason why I bought the Z5, because of its video. There's a lot of times that we want also to take video of let us say Family gatherings and we dont want to carry that bulky camcorder, well this is the solution to it. Oh by the way Z5 has 12X Optical zoom & 4X Digital zoom, If we compare the range with the 'old-fashioned' 35mm camera it has a range of 35 - 420mm. With this kind of zooming power who needs an interchageable lenses ! and with my added telephoto lens my Z5's zooming power is more than 12X ( 420 mm ) and with anti shake system this camera is awesome !
5-0 out of 5 stars Best camera I've ever owned, but not quite fulfilling expectations
Having owned only a Fujifilm Finepix A200 before this and being all of sixteen years old, I consider myself to be an amateur in the professional camera field; however, I have had this camera for almost four months now, and I have noticed some shortcomings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Photos Every Time
I LOVE this camera. I've had it for about three years now and I have yet to take a bad picture. They are all clear, crisp and beautiful. My brother has even asked me to take photos at his wedding next year because he loves my portfolio. This truly is a terrific camera. I won't go digital because I love this camera so much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera
I bought maxxum 5 from amazon about 2+ years ago. There is almost no way to take bad pictures with this camera. I have taken pictures sharp clear and so professional looking that I was tempted to send them to National Geographic ! Anyway, I am not a professional photographer but have been using maxxum line (I had a 7000i) for quite some time. I love how small and light but yet ergonomic this camera is. You can handle this with one hand and still not risk shaking. Battery life is great. Along with this camera I also bought 80-300mm zoom lense from sigma. My camera was not the QD version, that is my only gripe. But that was my since I did not look for the QD version at the time of purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great minolta
I've had a series of minolta SLRs (5xi, 500si, etc), most recently the Maxxum 5.They've all been great and have all done very well for me.Features, sharpness, exposure, automatic and manual modes all just what I need.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera!!
I finally converted to digital this month and immediately took it on a two week trip to Italy.Although the camera has plenty of options and adjustments available, the settings are easy to figure out and the small manual is understandable and is organized in a way to makes it easy to find the explanations needed. The photo quality is excellent and the anti shake technology really works, even with my18-200 mm lens.I carried a spare charged battery since I seemed to use one up before I was finished taking photos.

5-0 out of 5 stars I would give it 10 stars but it is not an option
This is a real bargain right now and soon you won't be able to get one.Don't listen to a handful of the negative reviews. KM still exists, but now will be making cameras for Sony. It is supported by Sony and new lenses will be available soon.Digital Cameras are like computers these days.In a couple of years as technology changes, you will want to upgrade the body anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent camera
The Maxxum 7D is much more than I expected from a digital SLR.I have used the Canon eos. The 7D is much easier to use and results are much better.

Editorial Review

The first consumer-oriented 5-megapixel camera to hit the market, Minolta's DiMAGE 7 leapfrogged the competition by coming out at a time when other camera manufacturers were just introducing their 4-megapixel models. The DiMAGE 7 offers an ultrahigh resolution 5.24-megapixel CCD sensor that delivers excellent images for prints as large as 13 by 19 inches. A high-performance, all-glass, 7x zoom lens (equivalent to 28-200mm on a 35mm camera), with a 2x digital zoom, ensures maximum flexibility when composing your shots. Add to this a host of creative controls stacked into a unit with the size and feel of an SLR, and you have a digital camera with the type of functionality typically found only in professional models.Read more

Features

  • 5.24-megapixel sensor creates 2,560 x 1,920 images for prints at sizes up to 13-by-19 inches
  • 7x optical plus 2x digital zoom lens with autofocus
  • Included 16 MB CompactFlash memory card holds up to 12 images at default resolution
  • Connects with Macs and PCs via USB port
  • 12-bit A/D conversion provides excellent tonal range

2-0 out of 5 stars Behind the times
While this camera boasts lots of features, and for the most part that is true, it is not easy to use. There is so many buttons to change to get the right photo, it is time comsuming and awkward.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellence for creative photography
The uniqueness of this camera, as compared to many of its analogs, is the availability and quality of the black-and-white mode for serious creative photographers. The results are comparable to the real film but with digital manipulation, the camera provides a more versatile and efficient application. The examples of black-and-white images taken by this camera can be seen at:http://pathology2.jhu.edu/shihlab/index.cfm. The only things need to be improved for this camera are: 1) the autofocusing function is too slow and sometimes not accurate especially in the dim light; 2) the range of aperture is relatively limited. Overall, this camera is probably the only digital one for photographers who are seeking taking black-and-white images.

5-0 out of 5 stars 2 years after purchase - and loving it more everyday
This is my second digital camera, and at first I hated it because it was not a point and shoot, which was the only camera I had ever known. It was just too complex for a meathead like me to use.If I'd have reviewed this camera a year ago I would have given it a 2 star rating.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Pictures!
I have this camera since a few years now. The only problem is that you need to use regular batteries for it. Besides that it's perfect. I've made super crisp pictures, been able to take some of my aquarium fish, with amazing results. The pictures look like in a magazine! Really great.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good quality with cheap price
I bought this camera from Costco and the camera did the good job. It made nice and high resolution pictures. I had no problem about the digital zoom indoor or anything about the problem when zoom to 200%. All pictures are clear with no freakles on skin. I suggest use microsoft digital image pro 9 to edit and zoom the pictures. It did the perfect job. If you had any problem about the created image, your software must have problem. Now I enjoy all the pictures that I took because I really look like a professional cameraman. Five stars on this product. Oh ! except one con: battery drain too fast. Buy rechargable battery.. remember !

Minolta's Dimage X raises the stakes in the world of itty-bitty digital cameras. By incorporating a clever internal zoom lens, developing a slim new rechargeable battery, and using diminutive SD memory cards, Minolta has created a pocket-sized picture taker that's just 0.8 inches thick and has an overall volume 10 percent smaller than Canon's S110 Digital Elph. 1-0 out of 5 stars Cheap plastic battery door - $181
Cute size encourages leisure use, but beware of the fragility of this camera. I dropped it and broke the cheap plastic battery cover and the tiny plastic battery hold-down tab. Minolta wanted $181 to replace. Seems like a rip-off since these are simple plastic parts and are easily accessible. Poor service.

5-0 out of 5 stars I lost it
I bought this when I was mobilized for OIF.I kept it in the pocket of my blouse the whole time, shooting pictures every where I went.Great shots, plenty of storage space.I never felt the need to use max resolution.Unfortuantely I lost it last week and am shopping for a replacement.I'm checking out the X31 and X50 which cost less than this one was.

4-0 out of 5 stars A small fun camera- - great features
I have had this camera for about three years, an it is a great machine. It is small, light weight, and it takes o.k. pictures. When I bought it, it only held 12 picture, (I don't know why)but I recently bought a new memory card, and it is great. You can make voice recordings, and take small video clips (35 seconds). The battery life is ok, but not what I would have wanted. Overall, this camera is a great digital camera. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid this piece of junk - buy a Canon or Nikon
The flash on this camera broke after < 2 months.Sent back to Konica-Minolta for warranty service was told that repair takes 2 months.3 1/2 mos go by and no word from manufacturer.I called, found out they are awaiting parts from Japan and would take another month.I called again after 6 weeks and was told that the parts are no longer being made as camera is discontinued. They will send me a "REFURBED" replacement as my only recourse.Since I had no choice, I took that. The refurb broke after 2 months as well - autofocus no longer focuses, and the metal ring around the tip of the lens fell off.No wonder Konica-Minolta is now out of the digital camera business.Buy a Canon or Nikon instead.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lousy Camera
I have had this camera about 6 months and have had to return it twice so far for the same repair, without any explanation or recourse of requesting a replacement. I use the camera for my work so two to three weeks per repair is pretty disruptive to my schedule. Quick shots are out of the question since the camera is ultra sensitive to any tremor, and I must always use a tripod.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent camera, a bit complicated to use for anything but take pictures

This camera is great for taking pictures in great lighting. However, if you like to take pictures at night or in door, the quality is terrible. The zoom is virtually useless.Even in great outdoor lighting, taking a picture with close up zoom will make the pixel very big.I guess you get what you pay. It's a cheap nice looking startup camera. If you are going to honeymoon in Hawaii, this is a great camera. But if you are trying to take pictures of your 2 year old kid, better get a better camera. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars EASY TO USE
This camera has worked on my mind for a few years now ever since its introduction in 1999.As a long time Nikon owner, I avioded buying one.I mean it's not the most beautiful camera in the world. But at last it began to look good to me, I mean really good and I decided I must own one. But, alas, they are nearly out of production.I had to settle for a well cared for used one.The camera works like a dream. The controls are easy to locate and easy to use, even in the dark. They glow. There is a limited production still available in stainless and titanium and I think the Dynax european edition is still available if you can locate one.The limited edition sells for ahefty $2500. and is currently back ordered.Get one if you can and the heck with anyone who tells you its not pro and ugly.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Regrets
I have owned the Maxxum 9 for about a year now and have no complaints. I bought it because of the good reviews I read on the internet. Very tough camera. I use it frequently. I purchased 2 interchangeable lenses for it and I am satisfied with the operation and the outcome of my pictures, which I also need to include is the are 21 Custom Funcions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pro Camera from the mind of MInolta
I have spent a lot of time in camera stores and I have always thought Minolta products always got unfairly shoved to the side. The notion that Minolta cameras and lenses are inferior to Nikon and Canon is crap, and is perpetuated by certain camera snobs and self-proclaimed experts. I shoot regularly as an advanced amateur and I own and use the Maxxum 9. I feel that it is the most intuitive 35mm professional camera out there. The quality of construction is first rate, on par with the best that Nikon and Canon have to offer. The camera has a solid feel, everything about it is high quality. The control layout is so self-explanatory that most photographers can learn to use the camera in 5 minutes without flipping through the manual. With respect to lenses. I still run into narrow-minded people who ask me which "Nikkors" I use upon seeing my photographs, and then these self-proclaimed "experts" simply refuse to believe me when I inform them that my images are all created with Minolta AF cameras and lenses. No, I am not kicking Canon and Nikon products, obviously they are very good, several million pros using those systems cannot be wrong about them. But pretentious "camera aficionados" who slight the Maxxum 9 don't know what they are missing out on. I am sold on the Minolta Maxxum 9.When choosing lenses go for the G-Series, optically they are cut every bit as good as the very best lenses Nikon and Canon make. I've shot pictures with all these brands and even established pros who shoot with other systems admit that my images are just as sharp as any they've seen or made. And they absolutely love the 9's layout. Minolta would do well to stay with the Maxxum 9's basic concept when designing their future pro cameras. Now if they would only make a full frame digital body based on the Maxxum 9........... ... 4-0 out of 5 stars SONY has taken over warranty repairs on these
I love this camera. It stops action better than others for the same price. The guy who complained about warranty just needs to go to the SONY web site because they took over the camera division of Konica Minolta. They fixed my camera very quickly, no problems at all.

1-0 out of 5 stars Warranty Rip OFF
After I purchased this camera I had to send it out for repair. After I took a picture it would only store every other picture. Since Mar. 2006 I have sent it out 2 more times for the same problem. And now after I take a picture it shuts off. Now I can only use it for a paper weight. And there is no phone number listed for the repair center.

5-0 out of 5 stars SUPERB
This camera is absolutely superb in function, clarity, ease of use, and all around enjoyment. It is light, yet does not have the "cheap" feel of other cameras, the AutoFocus is quick and quiet, and it takes excellent pictures. The manual side of this camera is easy to setup and operate.Additional lenses can be had at reasonable prices. The built in flash works flawlessly. For those individuals who need an external flash, they can be purchased, although they are pricey.I recommend this camera for everyone from beginners to professionals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera for the Money !!
After much research and shopping, the XTsi has the most versatility and features for the money. Most retail stores in the area only sell the less expensive Minolta Maxxum cameras at the same price as the XTsi here at Amazon. The panoramic option is great for those senic mountain views and the camera is truely intuitive.I would recommend this camera to anyone who is either just getting into photography or is looking to step up from a compact 35mm camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greater starter SLR camera
I bought this camera a year ago in an attempt to learn to master the art of photography, and I have not been disappointed. The manual and automatic settings allow you to gradually work into directing your own shots, and the quality couldn't be better. I've been very impressed by all the photos taken with this camera, I only need to buy a greater zoom to go with it. Great camera for a great price! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Camera
I must say, I really do like this camera. However, for a photographer that may want to explore the fine art of photography, this system may make it a little hard to do that.I don't particularly like the digital aperture and shutter speed adjusting.I would rather spin the lens, but I guess that's just me wanting to keep it simple.I also don't like the fact that you don't really have a very nice set of options if you are shopping for a new lens.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great, solid camera
We bought this camera for amateur photos from our wedding in 2002.It is a solid piece with simple, easy to understand controls. Some of the shots from this camera looked better than the professional ones.We also took this camera to Paris for our honeymoon. Our photos were absolutely beautiful in both indoor and outdoor settings.I highly recommend this camera.

2-0 out of 5 stars Took nice pictures....but it died
I received this camera as a gift for Christmas 2004.The pictures I got from it were great with beautiful colors, and everything was fine until November 2004.The focus slowed WAY down, and it took me several attempts to take every picture. The zoom didn't work consistently, and the camera would refuse to take a picture for no discernable reason. Finally, just after the warranty expired (of course), it stopped working altogether.Wouldn't turn on or respond in any way to new film or batteries.
1-0 out of 5 stars I strongly recommend you don't purchase
We have had to exchange this camera twice within the first month of having it, first it stopped taking pictures you had to shut it off zoom in and out then it would take it, the second camera did the same also it stopped taking the film, we tried several brands and it would just expose it all. very disapoointing. we contacted minolta they would only fix it not return or exchange it. we bought the canon sure shot 115 and love it so far!

3-0 out of 5 stars The camera scratches the film
I have taken 5 rolls of film (different brands) with this camera and had them developed at 2 different labs.Every single roll has stratches on the backside of the film across the whole length of film. The scratches are in the same place.I will have to send the camera in to be serviced under warranty.Other than that annoyance, the pictures are actually quite good, and if you can get a 130c without this same flaw, I would recommend the camera. ... Editorial Review

One of the tiniest and lightest advanced 35mm compact cameras around, the Minolta Freedom Zoom 125 packs a lot of excellent features into its stylish, streamlined aluminum shell (with plastic backing). The fully automatic FreedomZoom 125 boasts a 37.5-125mm zoom lens for wide angles and excellent close-ups(sharp as close as 1.97 feet), along with a multi autofocus system, (so peoplestanding apart, for example, will still be in focus), and a three-segment lightmetering system with a highly accurate AE sensor for great exposures under mostconditions. Also included is a remote with a working range of approximately16.4 feet. It provides two shutter release modes: standard mode triggers theshutter as soon as the button on the remote control is pressed, while thedelayed mode takes the exposure two seconds after the button is pressed. Now youcan include yourself in the shot without racing against the self-timer. And, soyou'll never again have to wonder when you took those pictures, the Freedom Zoom125 comes with a time/date stamp.Read more

  • Lightweight, compact, and easy-to-carry
  • Minimum focus distance of 2 feet
  • Wide focus area

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent compact camera
I consider myself an intermediate-level photographer. I bought this camera (3) years ago from The Wiz and have used it quite heavily in that time, taking both indoor and outdoor photos. I've also taken some nighttime photos at Christmas time with excellent results. I've been extremely happy with the image quality -- colors, clarity, vibrancy, sharpness. I've also been happy with the feel of the camera -- sturdy, doesn't feel cheap or clunky. I've taken a number of action shots with superb results except when I inadvertently move the camera. Generally I follow my subjects (children, pets, etc.) around with the camera on and the flash set properly. I keep my finger pressed lightly on the shutter button so the camera is focused on something. For me, this helps eliminates delays in autofocus and lag time between shots. I can take many shots in succession with very minimal and acceptable delay. Basically, in order to enjoy this camera, you have to have realistic expectations. For example, the flash isn't as strong as on SLR cameras, so you need to be mindful of this and use the proper film. In low light, I use 800 Kodak film. I've found this camera to be excellent for every conceivable purpose -- family portraits, close-ups, landscapes, etc. Battery life has been good for me. Each time I take in a roll to be developed, there is rarely a bad picture, and if there is, it is always my fault, not the camera's. There are (2) reasons why I'm not giving this camera (5) stars:1) The red-eye reduction feature is inadequate. This is the one main drawback for me. I've used the standard techniques for minimizing this. When photographing adults, there's generally no problem. But pets and children can be challenging. Minolta could eliminate this problem by designing the camera with a pop-up flash similar to Nikon's. 2) In order to open the battery compartment, you need the camera cord, which has a special "key" on it to open the compartment. I don't like this since you could lose the cord or break the key.3-0 out of 5 stars Fuzzy Pictures
I just bought this camera for a month. I took a roll (400) of pictures but it came out fuzzy. It seemed like the lens can't focus the object right. Plus, it's not as perfect as I thought before I bought it. Anyway, I like the style and the compact size of this camera. I would still recommend it as it comes with a remote control which I think it's worth for the price.5-0 out of 5 stars Great choice
I have a Fuji Tiara APS point and shoot that I am extremely happy with. A friend of mine has a Rollei Prego 125 zoom in 35 mm that has also performed well for him. When another friend of mine was looking to replace his old camera with a compact point and shoot model, I went to a store near me that carries at least a couple of dozen different models of point and shoot cameras, to see what was available since I had purchased mine 15 months ago. This field changes so rapidly that even one year is enough to produce substantial changes in the offerings. Read more
