not happy
was unable to fully use single use disk, after using camera a few minutes was unable to restart to use it again, maybe I should have stayed with a JVC??

DZ-BX35A cons
I am not impressed with picture quality as the picture quality is not as detailed/clear as the mini-dv camera I had been using simply because this is a compressed MPEG format verses the AVI on the mini-DV cameras. The advertising boasts of the abity to shoot video in the 16.9 wide screen format but you do not find out untill later that this option is only available in the 30 minute record mode and not the 60 minute mode. Then there is the issue that you can only finalize a disk and do repair file recovery ONLY while the camera is operating on AC. I had planned on shooting a dvd out in the field where there is no AC and being able to complete a disc without finding an AC outlet before completing the task. The standard battery that comes with the camera that I bought is good for about 30 minutes of normal recording and is a drawback, so get the larger amperage battery if you want to use the camera for the 60 minute low resolution record mode.
No Major Problems So Far
I waited for awhile before writing a review of this camcorder because I felt that it wouldn't be fair to use it once and then write a review based on that single experience.Instead, I've used the camera on a number of occasions since Easter.These included Easter egg hunts, birthday parties, pool parties, and general video work just to test it out.So far I've had no problems with the camera.

We ordered one from QVC last September 30th.I just started to use it in December 25th 2005.I have been having trouble with buying -RW and -R discs. It came with Maxwell -R and one -RW. I purchased -RW Sony and it would not read any of the three discs.I Purchased -R Memorix and out of 10 discs it was able to read and format only 6 in the package.I suggest to be careful when buying discs and opening carefully. Check with the stores return policy.Other than this concern the camera functions well.Amazon has a better price than QVC also.

Major issues with camera
I bought this camera with high hopes as it was recommended by Consumer Reports.I have had very mixed results.Using the camera is easy. No problems there.However, as soon as I am done with a disc the problems begin. First of all, I have had 4 out of 12 discs not finalize correctly.This causes the DVD to NOT be copyable. Basically, if my DVD ever scratches or gets lost, my video is gone forever. Big problem.
A great camcorder, but.....
I purchased this on a lark at a Circuit City store that was closing, so I only paid $450 and could return it with no restocking fee (because it was "open box").For taking movies I really loved it.The image quality was very nice, the controls were fairly logical and easy to figure out, and the image stabilizer worked very nicely.On a cold Chicago day (20 deg F) I brought it into a butterfly garden (78 deg F and VERY humid) and the lens defogged faster than any other I've owned and the recorder was unaffected.The only problem was what to do AFTER shooting the video.

If you want to record home movies directly to dvd on a budget
You are not going to get every option avaliable with this camera! But then again your not paying for for every option either! Just take the time to reaserch your needs and what your budget is. Personally I wanted to record family movies directly to DVD and convert my old HI8 and VHS video to dvd. This camera does this with no problem in fact really easy. If you want to edit on a computer which I also do with this camera as I did with my old HI8 you can purchase an external video input hub that connects through a usb port for around $30 but you can edit on the camera just the same. I compare the camera in terms of cars - Yes there are cadilacs but everyone can't afford to own one or don't feel the need to have the most expensive car on the lot (that will be outdated in a few years) A Buik is a nice ride to and is 10K less!

There isno "firewire " with this one
Without purchasing another piece of hardware ,you cannot record to dvd via PC with this little number.All the other features are great but it's like traveling 500 ft and stopping short 1 foot from the destination .WTF!!!!
make sure you have a multi formatDVD system if you use the RAM discs...
i have had this unit for over a month (summer 2005), took it on a trip to Vegas and even in very high ambient heat there, it has performed flawlessly. also used both mini DVD-R (best general choice for most people) but also used and recorded to the mini DVD-RAM discs which come in those nice protective case cartridges.

Very Difficult Camera
Very disgusted with this cameara. Hitachi's web site said this camera had a built in flash, the unit does not have one.I got constant disc error when using various diss.They have 4 formats and is it extremely difficult to figure out which one to use and when.Once you start to record on a disc, if you get a disc error the data is lost and the disc is ruined. To get rid of disc error you need to take out disc, you can not finalize to save data because of the error and your precious moments taped are now gone. I returened it and bought a Panasonic Pv-gs300 and had it taping sucessfuly within an hour. Simple to use, great detail in the film

I love it it is very easy to use and compact plus you save money by using dvd rw over and over again. I used it in a Florida vacation and it was great.

Not for Mac users!
I am not an expert on camcorders, so I cannot speak authoritatively to the quality of the video produced by the Hitachi mv750ma. I'm mostly happy with the video I've taken so far, and I like the feel of the camcorder. It's pretty easy to figure out how to use the menus for video. Still images are almost all blurry, however, and this part of the device seems like a waste.Probably not worth buying a sd card to record photos.

Overall its good product, but some thing could be improved.
Great product - better than Sony and more reliable too.
This camcorder is awesome.It is easy to use, has solid video and sound, and is from Hitachi - the firm that invented the DVD camcorder.Actually, consumer reports has been very favorable towards Hitachi camcorders in general.

Problem with my Hitachi DZ-MV230A DVD Camcorder
I bought a Hitachi DZ-MV230A DVD Camcorder from Future Shop, Surry, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on 28th Sept., 2003. My computer OS WIN XP (Home Edition) does not detect the Camcorder, nor the recorded DVDs are detected by the DVD ROM installed with the Computer. So, I cannot download anything from the Camcorder. The Camcorder is thus useless to me though I like its picture quality and shape. No software was supplied along with the gazette and it was written on the manual that it would work with WIN XP. I wish, the manufacturer gives weightage to this letter and send me the solution.

Decent camera, needs some refinements
We got this camera as a Christmas present. For simple movies and communicating with the family, it serves well. There are some design errors that Hitachi will need to fix before I recommend it, though. Easy to find camcorder, hard to find software
I spent a lot of time researching camcorders before finally deciding on the Hitachi 230A. I purchased it to record my childrens band performance at halftime and to share the recording with the band director for teaching purposes. It worked great..I recorded the performance, put it in my lap top and was able to replay it instantly for everyone. It was quite a hit, until I got home and tried to download it to my computer to make copies.It seems the salesman, in his zest to sell me the camera, neglected to sell me the correct interface kit. This camcorder comes with 2 different interface software kits. One is for still images only and is relatively easy to find. The other kit (DZ-WINPC3) is a scare commodity. At this time you can only order it directly from Hitachi at the cost of $179.00 plus shipping and handling. AND it's on back order for 2-3weeks. This kit is not even carried by Circuit City, the major supplier of this camcorder. I love the camcorder for it's eaze of use and the digital picture quality but I spent my first weekend with this product on the phone trying to figure out why I couldn't download my video into my computer. I at least got to transpose it onto VHS but the manuel supplied leaves much to be desired when it comes to explanations. It tells you the correct way to plug it in to your VCR but neglects to note that you have to set your TV and VCR to a different input mode in order for it to work. I guess that you're supposed to know that already. Would I buy this camcorder again...only if I had all the correct software in my hand as I walked out of the store.
