4-0 out of 5 stars very good buy
I have one of these Canon Snappy camera's.... and I am very pleased with the photo's I have got with this camera. You cant go wrong, buying this camera, except that it is zoomless, and you need a good expensive film, forbest results.

4-0 out of 5 stars GOOD PICTURES, BUT FRAGILE
The Canon Snappy is compact, takes brilliant and sharp pictures (it has a high quality lens), and the auto-manual flash feature is very useful, but the lens cover tends to fall when you pull it to start shootingphotographs, this is very unpleasant when you are climbing a mountain orcrossing a river. The worst thing with this terrible design problem is thatthe lens cover is also the MAIN SWITCH!, so if the cap disapears, you willbe unable to turn the device off and protect the lens. It is very difficultto put the cover in the camera again. The Snappy works well in domesticsituations but I would better buy the NIKON NICE TOUCH. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera, wet or dry
....This camera was darn-near perfect, no matter where I used it, be it under water or all the way to the top of Mount Etna. I made the rounds of the entire island, Germany, Israel, Spain, and a whole bunch of detachments in other places. As good as it was, it was bound to die eventually. I found it's only flaw, you can't cheat on the directions. They say to dampen the seal before swimming, and there's a reason for that. If you don't, it will leak under pressure and short out the whole thing. So be warned, READ THE INSTRUCTION BOOK! It's there for a reason. One bonus, it works to 20 feet, even though they say 16.5. So listen to someone who misses a faithful camera, wet the seal and this bad-boy will serve you for a long time. (I have 2 years of great pictures to prove it)

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Camera for Fun in the Sun
I enjoyed this camera in Cancun where the water was very clear, haven't used it underwater anywhere else yet.You have to get fairly close for the underwater pics but they come out nice. The camera also works well on land.Photos come out clear, but you'll want to shoot a little closer that you might think. The color in the scenic shots came out beautiful.Good camera for vacation.I'd recommend it to a friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Versatile, Capable & Fun
I recently bought a Sure Shot A-1 because I've ruined 2 other very expensive cameras with saltwater & sand. I was a little skeptical about this camera because it is relatively inexpensive and simple compared to my SLR or the Minolta underwater camera. Well, I've shot about 10 rolls now, on the beach, in saltwater, swimming with the kids in Hawaii and hiking. This little camera takes terrific pictures in all settings. I'm especially impressed with the exposure control system which could have easily been tricked with lots of scattered light....but was not. The fill flash works well, even at high noon on Maui, breaking up harsh shadows and brightening colors. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little camera!
This camera is loaded with features, but still easy to use. My Mom is a professional photographer and proclaimed this the best point and shoot ever. Bought one for herself, for me and my brother as well! She especially likes that it has sports/action capabilities. I have fun using the captions now and then (they are optional, so you can turn them off completely if you don't want them). It's nice and compact. Most importantly, it takes beautiful pictures!

5-0 out of 5 stars One great little camera
Canon's Sure Shot Classic 120 series continues the Canon tradition of pushing the technology envelope further ahead. New and improved features include a powerful 38-120mm built-in zoom lens with aspherical optics, a 7-mode Best-Shot Dial for convenient and automatic camera settings, a 3-point dual hybrid autofocus system, built-in dioptric viewfinder adjustment control, and a high-efficiency built-in Light Guide flash. 5-0 out of 5 stars Very pleased with this little gem!!!
Before I start, I should tell you that I am no "pro" when it comes to cameras or photography.I have been taking "basic" pictures with "basic" cameras for about 20 years now...nothing fancy just the usual vacation, birthday and some amateur wildlife and landscape-type shots during my travels.Like most people though, I always wanted nice clear pictures with as little "fuss" as possible and up until a few months ago, was served quite well by my trusty Olympus Epic Stylus Zoom 80.It travelled all around the world with me numerous times over the years and took beautiful pictures of everything from icebergs in Antarctica to lions in Zaire! After many years of trouble-free service, my faithful Olympus finally broke down and so I began the task of researching a replacement.Within a month or so I had it narrowed down to three: another Olympus Epic Stylus Zoom 80, a Minolta Explorer EX Zoom (75 mm) and a Canon Sure Shot Classic Zoom 120.After much research (especially reading valuable consumer reviews like the ones listed in here) I determined that one of these three cameras were going to be able to give me what I was after in a simple, inexpensive "point and shoot" zoom camera. Each had their merits and also their detriments according to different people's opinions. The Olympus was the lightest and had the best lens quality, but had consistant problems with the "clam-shell" cover drive mechanism jamming. The Minolta had the best ergonomics and had a wider starting field at 28 mm, but had poor aesthetics. The Canon had the longest zoom at 120 mm and sophisticated personal setting abilities, but had issues regarding an awkward flash location and a difficult battery cover apparatus. All three camera's came in within about $80 of each other and were highly recommended in most editor and consumer reviews I read.I did some "hands-on" research by visiting numerous camera shops to see how each "felt".Most of the salespeople I encountered couldn't tell me much more than what the basic features and specifications were for each of the three cameras. It finally came time to make a decision because I had a vacation to thepicturesque province of Newfoundland in eastern Canada coming up.I liked each of the cameras, but I finally decided on the Canon for the following reasons: firstly, I felt confident in the overall quality of the "brand".Canon makes good solid cameras and they back it up with the longest and most comprehensive warranty of the bunch (5 years).Secondly, I knew from all the reviews I had read that "regular people" like me found the camera easy to use and took awesome pictures using all of the numerous settings on the camera.Thirdly, I found the Canon to be the best priced (albeit I purchased the camera at a clearance price about $100.00 below MSRP).Finally, the shop I bought it from gave me a 30 day money-back guarantee...no questions asked! They also threw in a roll of ISO 400 and a roll of ISO 800 Fuji film with free processing for me!Read more

Editorial Review

This remarkably small 4x zoom Advanced Photo System camera is the first of its size to offer a high-performance lens with a wide zoom ratio. The Elph 490Z conceals its 22.5-90mm 4x zoom lens behind a swing-open cover and retains the "box and circle" construction of the original Elph, making it compact and nearly flat with the lift-up lens cover closed. The Elph 490Z is 40 percent smaller in volume and 20 percent lighter than the Sure Shot Z135, the most similar previous Canon model in terms of zoom ratio. It fits in almost any shirt pocket and weighs less than 11 ounces. Despite the Canon Elph 490Z's diminutive stature, its aluminum body feels sturdy.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this Camera!
I bought the Canon Elph 490Z to use on my trip to Europe. While abroad, this camera was incredible. The Canon Elph 490Z is very tiny and lightweight (about 11 oz.), so I didn't hesitate about carrying this cameraeverywhere I traveled. Also, the camera's aluminum body handled very wellduring the trip; there were no breakage or scratches.Furthermore, thefeatures of this camera were great. The 4x zoom lens enabled me to capturedistant objects, while the parallax compensation viewfinder allowed me tomore accurately capture objects up close.I developed 15 rolls of filmfrom this camera. The photos look crisp and colorful, and there was no redeye in the ones with family and friends.I definitely recommend the CanonElph 490Z!

4-0 out of 5 stars Everything You Want in your APS compact Zoom Camera!
This is a very well designed and compact camera. The Elph's well designed size allows it to fit anywhere, (i.e. handbag, pocket, and glovebox) easily and effectively. Therefore, you want to carry it more, and take far toomany pictures. As a result, of Cannon using APS technology greatly enhancesthe clearity of the pictures, along with the additional processing price aswell. The "H" setting or HGTV angle Cannon uses though greatlydistorts the edges of picture, one is taking.Lastly, another negative Ihave encountered is the length of life the Lithium (Expensive) battery hasa short life.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars hey, it's much better than it has a right to be
I bought the entry level elph camera something like 4 years ago. It's simple, direct and has only one lense setting. But over those years, this little camera has taken great shots. It makes everything look far away, as the lennse is almost wide angle. So for scenery, you get the entire view. However, for taking pictures of people, it is great at a close distance, as it opens fast and shoots faster. You can often "catch the moment" in a way that a 35 mm won't - especially as people see it coming. This camera, you just pull out of your pocket or fanny pack and snap a pix. It also has a pretty good and quick exposure caibration system, as the photos tend to be exposed just about right. So, for $45 it can't beat.

4-0 out of 5 stars THIS ELPH

5-0 out of 5 stars Canon Sure Shot Owl PF Date
Purchased the camera at Sears on sale for [money].Having read other people's reviews of this camera and other cameras that I own, I must be lucky or else I know what I'm doing. I've taken close up and landscape shots outdoors and I am very impressed with the sharpness of the 35mm/f3.8 all-glass lens on the OWL PF. I've had other cameras that cost more but the picture was not as sharp.I just do not have a problem with out-of-focus pictures.I think people stand too close to the subject they are photographing, hence a blurred picture and a washout from the flash.I use Fujifilm Superia 400, which I like because it has fine grain for 400 speed film. However, I have used the flash to a certain degree, I took a picture of some objects as well as people indoors at close range, 3-4 feet away and the flash did NOT wash out the picture. It has a simple autofocus system in it and I have found that it works just fine. I don't know how much abuse it would take, but for a "bang around" point and shoot camera I think this is worth the money. I particularly like the large viewfinder. I wear glasses at times and have no trouble taking pictures with this camera. Also, it has midroll rewind which is nice because I'm not one to "finish out a roll."1-0 out of 5 stars Too much flash
I found the flash to be too bright, and many photos were out of focus. The camera will be added to the garage sale pile this summer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Entry-level digital cameras still get a run 4 the money
If this review is still here 2 or 3 years from now you may laugh at it, as digital still-photo cameras are getting better all the time. Nevertheless, the Canon Snappy LX II is an unbelievable value for the money, and, as of this writing(Mar. 2002), there's NOTHING in this price range by way of "value" digital cameras(less than 60 bucks) that can touch a true 35 mm point-n-shoot camera for picture quality. With auto-loading and auto-rewinding, the Snappy LX II is practically idiot-proof, ideal for the person inclined to throw away the instruction booklet and then figure it out(but keep it to operate the timer). That it alsohas an auto-date feature is particularly impressive in this price range. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great start to an awesome line of 35mm SLRs
When buying a SLR camera, you likely intend to purchase additional lenses and/or flashes to build a system (if not, maybe a point and shoot would be better).Canon has an awesome line of flashes, lenses, and other accessories for their bodies.Sadly they all add up to quite an expense, so buying a body at the lower end, such as this one, can allow you to spend more on lenses, which ultimately contribute much more to the final product (only your own abilities exceed them in impact). The difference between this body and some of Canon's higher end ones is minimal for most users (bodies costing 2-4 times as much are metal, sealed from the weather, and may focus quicker, but few really need any of this). This camera leaves few feautures out (especially when compared to competing brands' cameras in this price range), and you can build a wonderful system around it.If you ever do develop a need for a fancier model, you will have learned a whole lot from this body and will have a collection of lenses and flashes to continue to use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good camera, clear pics, pretty easy to use
Overall I'm happy with this camera. I had to replace a point and shoot pentax. I'm pretty happy with the pics I get with this point and shoot. I've gotten a few blurry ones, that I may have moved. Unfortunately the price wasn't as good when I bought it. It has an optional remote control which I was used to on my pentax and the zoom is longer. Overall a good camera.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent camera ,highlyrecommended!
I was surprised to read all the negative reviews about the canon z155. My own experience with this camera has been basically positive. Since purchasing the camera 7 months ago, the majority of my prints have been sharp, clear, colors bright and true to life. The only drawback i can think of is the pictures do tend to blur when using full zoom without a tripod. I dont think this is specifically Canon's problem, though, because photography books all recommend using a tripod when using a high zoom. At 155mm, one needs a very steady hand or the pictures blur. When I do use a tripod, even my pictures at the highest zoom come out crystal clear. I'd recommendthis camera anytime!

2-0 out of 5 stars Inconsistent
Although my canon rebel SLR is incredible and we've had great canon's before, this one is very disappointing and inconsistent.I've had the same problems as others with blurry pictures and delays in taking photos after pushing the button.I'd recommend finding another camera or upgrading to a SLR from Canon (though pricey). ... Editorial Review

The Canon Sure Shot Z90W Caption camera is among the smallest andlightest wide-angle, 3x zoom 35mm cameras available. Its 28-90mm zoom lens letsyou shoot with a wide angle to catch the action, or close up for more intimateshots. The auto settings, such as film loading, focus, and exposure, take theguesswork out of your photography. The three-point autofocus system measures thedistance to the subject at three different points in both reflected light(passive mode) and infrared signal (active mode) to give you a clean, sharpimage every time.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A disappointment
I shopped and shopped for a camera that I would use a on a big 6 month trip I was taking.I decided on the Canon because of the superior lens and wanted a clamshell, for the durability. However, with this camera, I found that the clamshell lenscover would often slip out of groove and thus even when I would "open" the camera, it would not get triggered to turn on.So I'd have to open and close it a bunch of times in order to get it to work. Then, after about a year, the camera started to take fuzzy pictures all the time and neither a tripod, new batteries or faster film seemed to fix it.I am so irritated that I spent the money for a camera I got so little use out of.

on this page. I, however, purchased the camera knowing full well that I would not receive the caption model, and I still suggest that this camera is a real deal.Read more
