1-0 out of 5 stars @$#&^*!
I bought this camera in July 2003. It stopped working October 2003. To be more specific, the display on the back went on the fritz. Canon suggested we remove the battery & try to reset the memory. No luck. So I will be sending it in for a warranty repair. I'll let you know how I make out.5-0 out of 5 stars Canon is great.
I love my Canon. I'd marry it if it weren't against God's law.

2-0 out of 5 stars Major malfunction issues!
I would give this camera five stars if not for the fact that I've had to send it in for repairs three times in the 2.5 year that I've owned it.When it works, the Canon Sureshot takes incredible pictures. The zoom and flash are great, and I am especially fond of the red-eye feature. However, my camera kept having this weird problem where it would rewind film when I was in the middle of the roll, and then I'd try to put a new roll in and it would rewind the film again. Each time that happened, I had to take it in for repairs.I was lucky that I lived close to a Canon repair facility at the time, otherwise I would have been really ticked about having to pay to ship my camera to them so many times. The repair people were really nice about everything and my camera has been working well for almost ten months now (knock on wood!I'm sure that will change as soon as I post this review). My next camera will NOT be a Canon, however.I've learned my lesson.

5-0 out of 5 stars Crisp, clear photos
I've had this camera for over a year and continue to love it.When I bought it, I was looking for a small, automatic camera, with a good zoom.I have an SLR which I love, but wanted a camera I wouldn't mind throwing into my bag 'just in case.'5-0 out of 5 stars My new best Friend
This camera took incredible pictures of my doberman in the snow, tho he was running literally as fast as he could when the pictures were shot. There was absolutely NO blur. And the pictures display images exactly as i saw them through my own eyes- perfect color and sharpness. It must be the best camera in it's class. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great start to an awesome line of 35mm SLRs
When buying a SLR camera, you likely intend to purchase additional lenses and/or flashes to build a system (if not, maybe a point and shoot would be better).Canon has an awesome line of flashes, lenses, and other accessories for their bodies.Sadly they all add up to quite an expense, so buying a body at the lower end, such as this one, can allow you to spend more on lenses, which ultimately contribute much more to the final product (only your own abilities exceed them in impact). The difference between this body and some of Canon's higher end ones is minimal for most users (bodies costing 2-4 times as much are metal, sealed from the weather, and may focus quicker, but few really need any of this). This camera leaves few feautures out (especially when compared to competing brands' cameras in this price range), and you can build a wonderful system around it.If you ever do develop a need for a fancier model, you will have learned a whole lot from this body and will have a collection of lenses and flashes to continue to use.

3-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful photos but..........
I love the pictures this camera produces, very clear and vibrant. However, the length of time it takes once you push the button until the picture actually takes is too long, especially if you are trying to capture photos of kids, animals, action, etc. If you are just taking pictures of still things such as flowers, people willing to stand still for a few seconds, etc. the pics come out great. The main thing that has gone wrong with this camera is that after probably only 15 rolls of film, the automatic rewind feature broke, my film got hung up and I had a disaster on my hands. I have to now remember how many pictures are on each roll (ie. 12 or 24, etc.) and when that many are taken I have to use the little button on the bottom to rewind. If I take, say 25 pics, on a 24 count roll, the film hangs up and will not come out and has to be taken to a professional to get it out.I initially loved this camera but because of the slow shutter speed and the rewind breaking, I would not recommend it.

2-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic camera...until it stops working
My SureShot 105 provided me with 3 years worth of beautiful photos. Then one day, the camera failed to turn on.The camera was never dropped, shaken, or exposed to moisture, and the battery was new.A camera shop estimated a repair cost of $75.4-0 out of 5 stars Built to last
I have had my Sure Shot 105Zoom for aboutt 5 years now and have been extremely happy with it, especially since it has been used and abused in that time. The quirky delay when taking pictures is the only reason I gave it 4 stars. It was weird at first, causing some of my pictures to be blurry or completely messed up... but once I got used to it I never had a problem. I never used the red-eye feature so I can't comment on that. I pretty much always use the green "Auto" selection and have never had red eyes in any of my pictures. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Canon Triumphs Again!
This is the successor to the EOS Elan 7. It is what the Elan 7 could have been, should have been, and, finally, is. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent foolproof camera
This camera is very easy to operate and produces consistently high quality results.Good viewfinder...simple controls...easy loading.

3-0 out of 5 stars I thought the photos would be sharper
It's a beautifully made little camera but it just hasn't produced very sharp photos so far.I wanted a film camera since I was tired of the images I was getting out of my Nikon 950 (digital = fuzzy pictures faster). The colors from the Sureshot76 are excellent and it's just so darn cute I have a hard time saying anything critical about it, but looking at images I'd taken with an old, cheap 35mm camera with an old, cheap 55mm lens I'd rather drag around a "real" camera than have to settle for images that really look as if they'd been taken with a disposable camera. But for a grandma-point-and-shoot camera it's dandy, I'll give it to my wife, it's her speed.

2-0 out of 5 stars Worked well for 1 year.
My wife and I bought this camera because it was simple to use and picture quality was good. That was until it stopped working properly. Now the zoom sticks, sometimes the lense will not close at all and the object in the viewfinder will not zoom as the lense does.It was purchaes in January 2001 and the warranty is now up.Not Happy! ... The Canon Elan 7E features the eye-controlled focus system, the fastest means of focusing and metering a photographer can find. By using more focusing points and greater off-center coverage than other cameras in its class, this camera is able to take an exact reading in approximately 1/20 of a second. When a photographer brings the camera to their eye, their glance is tracked by the focusing system, allowing framing and focusing to become a single uninterrupted creative process. An easy one-time calibration is all that's needed to activate the eye-controlled focus system. Once this calibration is complete, the camera is able to precisely detect which part of the viewfinder the photographer is using. It then automatically focuses the lens with amazing accuracy.Read more

  • Features Canon's exclusive Eye Controlled Focus--the fastest, easiest method of selecting a focus point
  • Top shutter speed of 1/4000 of a second and fastest in its class 4 fps film advance
  • Fixed new laser-matte screen with 7 focusing points; 35-zone evaluative metering system
  • WhisperDrive brings near silent shooting, when used with Canon's exclusive USM lenses
  • Includes 28-90mm lens

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of all
Talk about bang for your buck. This camera has everything you'd expect from a mid-range camera and some you usually only find on high-end cameras. The eye control focus works great though you do need to calibrate it many times in different lighting conditions. The controls are well placed and easy to use. The custom functions are relatively simple to set and allow you to customize how the camera operates. Functions like the true mirror lock-up and the 4 fps advance speed help place this camera securely in the top ranks of its class. The thing that surprised me the most was the near silent operation. Even on rewind you can only hear it if you place your ear near the body (unless of course you choose to rewind at the faster speed). Of course there are options I'd love to see added like a PC cable port and an interchangeable focusing screen but thats why there are pro class cameras. Like I said before, this camera is hard to beat for the price.

I gave my wife a Sureshot 85 for Christmas. The picture quality was fair. The subjects were ghostly white from a flash that was too strong. We took pictures of my daughters first ski lessons. The camera would not work with the lens fully extended. All pictures taken with the lens extended were blurred. The same thing happened at my daughters birthday party the following week. The pictures were blurred or undstinguishable at any setting when the zoom lens was used. I'm loking for a new camera. It won't be a Canon!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Camera
I really do like this camera. The zoom features are easy to use and the different flash settings are a big help. The only drawback? NO DATE STAMP! I ordered this even though another reviewer had said each time you change the battery you have to reset the date. There is no date function on it.Read more

The Canon Sure Shot Owl offers a choice of four shutter speeds and also features built-in autoexposure, auto film load, and auto speed setting with midroll rewind possible. 5-0 out of 5 stars THE Point & Shoot Camera
How many times have you had a kodak moment while your Carl Zeiss'ed Contax is stowed away in the dehumidified lexan box up on the top shelf of yourcloset? Get a handy point & shoot? But which one? The answer is theCanon Sure Shot Owl (or Prima AF-8 as its known in my neck of the woods).Biggest reason going for it is the SLR sized viewfinder. No squinting downlil' itty-bitty eyeholes. Then there's the AF on a fixed lens. No zoom. Adefinite plus to save indecision and lens twiddling. Also it comes with35mm fixed. The desert island lens for most photogs. Lastly quality opticsfrom not the makers of baby bottles at a price which you don't mind if youleft the camera at the beach. I love mine.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay, but...
It is an okay camera, but I think the zoom action would make it better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good but a tad bit expensive!
I find it pretty strange that no-one has bought or reviewed this camera. Well as the sole purchaser of the camera, I thought that it was pretty decent buy, though maybe it might be too expensive. This camera has all thebasics, excluding a zoom function.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Point & Shot Camera
I have taken this camera on 4,000 miles of river canoeing in all types of weather.I takes very good pictures without the need to worry about focusing.I have never used this underwater and would never consider doing so.However, I did drop it into water a few times and it suffered no damages.I am considering purchasing the A1 for its panoramic mode.

5-0 out of 5 stars Water resistant? How about waterproof to 80 feet!
Took this camera down 80 feet in salt water.Works like a charm. My friends couldn't believe it either.I recommend this camera highly.

3-0 out of 5 stars Canon WP1 vs Canon SureShot A1
I had WP1 and A1 before. Both of them looked almost the same except the colour of the rubber grip for the hand is different, the macro logo of the mode dial is different. WP1 is a weatherproof camera, not waterproof. It is excellent for snorkelling and rugged use. WP1 started to leak at 6m or 20ft when I used for SCUBA diving, that was my mistake. So I bought an A1, so far tested to 35m (though only guaranteed to a few metres) and still going strong, same for another 2 A1s that my friends have. Both WP1 and A1 are excellent cameras, gave excellent pictures. The price difference (almost 100%) basically gives you the peace of mind in terms of water-tightness. One thing to take note, the flash is not strong enough so underwater pictures will turn out to be greenish or bluish, and fine particles will tend to disperse the flash and over expose the pictures. Have fun! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye Control
This camera is hands-down the best 35mm camera for its time. The eye control feature allows you to pin point the subject no matter what the background. For entry-level use, there is a simple center focus that will allow even the least experienced user to take great pictures.5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Camera to Grow With
I've had my Elan IIe for a year now. It has traveled all over the US providing me and my family with great pictures of our adventures. With other AF SLRs, I used to be happy if a roll of film delivered just one or two really good shots --now I get one great picture after another whenever the full autofocus is used. 4-0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but really, really good
I've owned a Canon EOS Elan IIe for over two years now. In general I've been pleased with it, but there's definitely room for improvement. Things I like: the body is lightweight, the controls are easy to use, and there are some great automatic settings that make it easy to take good shots in a variety of conditions (action shots, scenery, portraits, etc.). Also nothing has broken or malfunctioned, which is saying a lot because my camera has been through consistently rough treatment - it gets thrown in a backpack and knocked around quite a bit.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best at what it does
I'm a former professional photographer who went through every technological innovation in imaging during a long career, from 4X5 press cameras to digital.
1-0 out of 5 stars Guess what camera needs a wrist strap?
We purchased the camera to use on a snorkeling cruise. Sadly, the camera drifted away during one of our dives never to be seen again. Had the camera come with a wrist strap instead of a neck strap this would not have happened. Needless to say, I am very disappointed in this camera.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best thing ever - until it dies
Take all the advice you can about pre- and post-water care for these cameras, and in fact, read up on other models' tips, because even though I would rinse this camera carefully, its own manual is not as stringent about after-dive care.As a result, this, the very best water camera I had ever bought(I took it to 40 feet, no problem) totally and terminally punked out on a short snorkeling excursion due to leakage. And once it leaks, it's over.To its credit, it did rewind the already-shot film before it gave up the ghost, a truly valuable death-throe.So take GREAT care of it and you will never have reason to complain. It corrects for underwater optics and it also works well on land.It does like to turn itself on (the "on" dial is quite slippery) so keep tons of extra batteries (C123A, $$$) around.Takes delightful pictures; I would buy it again. And I have to because mine died. ... Editorial Review

The new generation of Canon Rebel 35mm SLR camera, the 2000 Date EF 28-90mm silver deluxe camera, is smaller and lighter than any of its predecessors. Besides its sleek all-silver color (including the 28-90mm zoom lens) and comfortable new body design, this camera has a faster AF and quieter overall operation. Many of its other functions, such as a seven-point autofocus, 35-zone AE metering, quartz data time/date stamp, and depth-of-field preview, have been added or improved upon. The seven-point autofocus system, five across and one above and below the center focusing poin
