There are other cameras than the Elph....boy are there ever!
I just bought this camera and have not used it a lot yet but was very happy with it, so much so, that I wrote a review before I fully explored everything this camera was capable of.From my experience so far I am extremely impressed at the quality of the pictures and the cost per megapixel, seeing that you are getting a Leica lens with this camera.....and I am amazed that the Lumix line is not more popular than it is.I upgraded to this camera from a Canon Elph because of a number of things.First was the fact that this is the only camera name in the market with the best lens(Leica) in the world.Everything else(ie. all of the bells and whistles) are secondary to the quality of a camera lens, since this is what ultimately affects a pictures quality.I have taken several pictures of mundane things such as the side of a building just to test out the clarity of the picture and the richness of the colors.What would have been over or underexposed with my Elph much of the time comes in incredibly well with this camera.

Just a Great Camera
This is a camera that has everything a good camera should have in it and none of the junk alot of other digital camreas do have. It is quickly obvious that this camera was designed by leica, it is a nice size, intuitive, easy to hold and has a great lens. Most digital camras i found hard to hold or were so small and flimsy feeling you tought you might break them, this camera very much has the weight and feel of an older rangefinder camra which are some of the nicest camera to shoot with. The most used controls and settings are set with knobs, without having to go into the menus, alot of digitals most things are in the menus so u forget where they were or it takes time to get to them. And best of all this camera has a real focusing ring for manual focusing. The camera has a massive LCD screen on it which is bright and easy to see, it is 2.5 inches, much more than others 1.5, it has a hood u can put on it to protect it and keep the sun off on bright days. but this camera you dont really need the screen with most shooting functions on dials, and a great veiwfinder, and also a small lcd screen like is found on 35mm cameras that shows u all the current camera settings and more. This camera is everything people should be looking for in a camera, great feel to hold and use it, excellent lens and image quality, the absence of electroc junk (some camreas have 30 sooting modes and time zones for 62 cities around the world, if u need 30 shooting modes you will just use auto anyhow) and easy to use intuative contols with limited need for menus. I did alot of looking and this is one of the best camreas out the at almost any price, and why buy the leica at twice the price this is the exact same camera

Do not buy Panasonic
Do not buy Panasonic cameras. I bought a DMC-LC20 one year ago, and it died exactly one day after the warranty expired. It began taking pictures with green/pink tones. Support for digital cameras is terrible. They replaced the main board with a second hand one as a "favor" without improvement, now (6 weeks later) they still have the camera and now want to replace the CCD for $129.00 + labor. Panasonic has not returned any emails I've sent about my disappointment with this product. I will throw it away and buy Sony.

Great Camera
This is my first digital camera and I love it.I am a novice.It does everything I had hoped for and more.Dowloading images to my computer is really easy.The battery life is great and recharging is also easy - just plug it in.I am very happy with this camera and know that if I want additional lenses, they are available.

Do not buy Panasonic
Do not buy Panasonic cameras. I bought a DMC-LC20 one year ago, and it died exactly one day after the warranty expired. It began taking pictures with green/pink tones. Support for digital cameras is terrible. Don't use the auto white balance
After several (mostly outdoor) shots with this camera, I was pleased with the overall performance but mystified as to why the colors were off.The reason seems to be that the so-called "auto" white balance doesn't really compensate for the available lighting.My guess is that it is simply a fixed setting based on all possible lighting available on Planet Earth, ergo, only passable for any particular situation.Images taken in sunlight are improved immensely by using that setting, and indoor/mixed light source images should first be set using the manual white balance feature, if possible.

One of the best digital cameras ever made!
I've had my camera for over a year after picking one up on eBay, and it is the best digital camera I've ever used (and I've used a lot).

Good camera, but dark photos if lack of light.
I bought this camera in May 2003. I selected it because was cheap, the partnership between Panasonic and the famous Leica sound reliable, and the resolution was enough to print 10x15[cm]photo. All meet expectation.

Complete waste of money
Having always been a Panasonic believer, I bought this camera two years ago for a purchase price of $550, after playing with the camera for a year and four months the camera overheated and died on me (at a draft horse show that I had been waiting for for a long time).I sent the camera into Panasonic and was quoted an incredible $350 to fix the camera (market value for that same camera at the time was less than $250).I wrote the CEO of Panasonic only to be directed to someone else.They offered to take the cost of the part and have me pay for labour ($90) and shipping ($20), I asked them if they could instead send me a coupon towards the cost of a new one (as I would have rather spent the $110 on the purchase of a new one with warranty) and they said they couldn't.(more like they wouldn't)Needless to say that I was not impressed and would not recommend this product to anyone.It was a horrible experience dealing with the customer service sector of Panasonic, unfortunately for them they have lost a fond customer and repeat buyer.

spend your money on a good camera
I bought this camera less than a year ago.I had it die on me once and i had it exchanged for a different one, after getting the run around from panasonic.A few days ago the camera has just died on me again.There is a 1 year waranty right, no that just covers the cost of parts, labor is on you, which is a $90 flat rate, plus $12 to ship.If you are thinking about buying this camera, you are best off looking else where.

A pack leader
I've had this camera now for about 6 months and it's been exactly what I was looking for.It is slightly larger then the much more common Canon Elf line, but had the distinct advantage (at least over early models) of not making your friends look like ghosts when the flash is used (I found images taken with the elf nearly always overexposed - but I've never actually owned one).Read more
