2-0 out of 5 stars Finicky LCD
I bought this camera in 2002, about 2 months after my son was born.Within the 2 years we have had the camera it has been in the shop 3 times, the 3rd time just last week. The problem is when we fold out the LCD to take some video there is no picture, if you flip the LCD monitor over to the front the picture will work fine, but flip it back to normal and there is no picture. It takes great video when it's working and now that I have XP it works great uploading video to the computer.Unfortunately it has been in the shop about half the time we have owned it.I'm waiting for it to come back and stop working again so I can trade it in under Best Buy's warranty.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Camcorder, bad night vision
I've had this camcorder for a two years now. Gotta say that it works very well. It has good focus even when you're at max zoom, but when you're zoomed in that much, you need to put the camcorder on a tripod, otherwise the recording will be very shaky. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camcorder!
JVC products have always been a favorite of mine and have always proven to have outstanding products.the JVC GRDVL720U is no exception. This Camera is inexpensive, and has all the bells and whistles you could ask for from a lower-end camcorder. You can transfer Digital Video to your PC by Firewire, and easily transfer Digital Stills through USB.Great quality and design. The unit fits in your hand with all buttons readily available. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Digital board failure
Do not buy this camera if you are looking for a quality long lasting product. These models have frequent digital board failures. I had mine for just 2 years, the estimate is $ 400 to fix it. For that price I bought a Panasonic pvgs120. Much better quality, especially in low light settings.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good entry/mid level camcorder...
Hi,3-0 out of 5 stars common problem is microfuse on the mainboard
There are many reviews on this DV camcorder at this website and I don't see any need to elaborate the functionality of it. However, I had one terrible experience with this one which is discussed below. I also found by email from three other JVC 520U user that they had the same problem and fixed it easily.Read more

With the GR-DVM75U, JVC brings a true workhorse of a camcorder to market. A number of great features are packed into this small, easy-to-carry device. With a 680,000 pixel CCD, the GR-DVM75U records the marvelous 520 lines of resolution proscribed in the DV standard, making every memory captured sharp and crisp. Being in a low-light environment is not an issue for the GR-DVM75U, the special night shooting function enhances low-light sensitivity so you can still capture clear images at night in full color.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A dv-cam you'd actually use!Don't get Sony
Perhaps I'd give this 4.5 stars, but I'm happy enough with it to round up and not down.Vids are crisp and vivid. They transfer great with FIREWIRE/pinacle/dazzle 80 (unlike Sony w/ it's less frilly included editor).Only downside is the still pics for a camcorder are fair, it's not a mega-pixel cam like Sony's.For this reason some reviewers prefer the Sony, here's why I don't. 1-0 out of 5 stars I Should Have Bought The Sony
After reading reviews on how Sony digital camcorders are better than comparable JVC models and going against my better judgement to buy a Sony MiniDV, I ended up buying the JVC GR-DVM75U to save [money].5-0 out of 5 stars Fine all around camera
Bought this camera because I needed a new video camera, and I wanted a digital still camera.Outdoor pictures get great results, and the video is excellent, both inside and out. Many features that are beyond my requirements, but the camera interacts quite nicely with the computer for moving pictures, and with the remote, it's great to playback both pictures and video on the TV.The size is right, easy to carry for extended periods, and doesn't seem like your lugging a big thing around. The family is very satisfied with it! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but be ready to take it to the shop
I loooove the small size!Because of that, it gets more use.HOWEVER, had to send it for repairs 3 months after I bought it.Warranty covered the expense, (but not the shipping), and I'm afraid of the next time it will break, since the warranty has now run out.I would recommend some other brand with a better repair history.I don't recommend purchasing extended warranties, since it's damn near impossible to make them pay.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great camcorder except for repair record
I have owned 3 JVC camcorders or similar type DVM3, DVM5 and DVM50U.I have loved the size, capability and quality of video image, but all 3 have had significant and expensive repairs. So much so that I gave up the DVM5 because the repair cost was more than I could buy a new and more recent model. At the moment the DVM50U is in the shop after about 5 months ownership and the DVM3 has troubles holding selected zoom mode.I have also owned 3 JVC VCR's and 2 JVC televisions. One VCR bombed out with expensive repairs that dis not correct the problems, but the others have been great. I am not sure I would buy another JVC camcorder.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Little Tank!
I've owned mine for about 1 1/2 years now, and I'm happy to say it gets more use now than ever. The camera is well-made, the quality of the images is very good and the price and availability of media (both tape for moviesand the proprietary MultiMediaCards for stills) continues to improve (a 32meg MMC costs about $100 and holds 200 or so images). I do seem to have aproblem keeping dust out of the viewfinder, but that's my fault forshooting on windy days at some very dry baseball fields. The most usefuladdition was a MMC reader, which makes downloading images to mydesktop simple and fast. I have not bought the FireWire set-up yet, butthis is required for tape transfer to the desktop. All in all, this is oneof the most versatile cameras I have ever owned. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A cost-efective camcorder
I had a GR-dv500US, but I was looking for a more prosumer camcorder. I found in GR-dv400us an excelente camera for a relative low price. It has a F1.2 briliant aspherical lens, a 1.33M pixel CCD with a high grade, high band image processor, a 3.5? lcd viewer you can use simultaneously with viewfinder, an inteligent inbeded flash for its photo feature. Its also small footprint - not so small as a mini camcorder - and fits weel on hand. If you do not have a tape on hand, thats ok, you can always use a sd card (included). The image is sharp, briliant and show true color. So, you can have almost a pro cam for the price of a amateur camera. Besides that, JVC is simnonimous of quality and inovation. I love my camera. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Yet another victim of the "Lens Cap" error
The camcorder broke within the first year of service. As usual, it broke when I needed it the most - "Lens Cap" error. I was trying to film big event in my son's life. I only used it few times and had recoded 5 tapes.
4-0 out of 5 stars Survived 3 days in torrential rainstorm...outside!
I bought this camera in June of 2005 for the brith of my first child.I never had a problem with my camcorder. My brother-in-law bought the same model and he received the lens-cap error, which was fixed after he took it back to the store where he bought it and had it shipped to JVC.I, on the other hand, have never had a problem with this camera at all (yet)!
1-0 out of 5 stars Another Victim Of JVC's Horrible Products and Service!
I unfortunately bought one of these pieces of junk, had for only 8 months and am now getting the famous "lens cap" error too. Called their joke of a customer service company and was blown off by everyone there, in spite of the fact they know this issue is happening to all their cameras. They insist it "isn't the same problem with bad CCD's" in this unit. Their customer service doesn't care what you think or want. They refuse to do anything to help their customers in any way.

5-0 out of 5 stars New to digital video and love this camcorder.
While not new to computers and electronics I was new to digital video and was looking for a top of the line product for hobby use. While not cheap, I believe this product lives up to the promises and is a great value. Some aspects are tricky (connecting to a vcr) but after you get the hang of it very easy to use. The microphone is very sensitive but in quiet areas picks up a lot of motor noise making a microphone necessary. Overall, a great product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reason I chose this digicam over the milions on the market
First off: this is a mini DV camcorder. This means it uses mini DV tapes. They are the size of an old answering machine tape. Theycome in three sizes: 30 min, 1 hour and 80 minute. The tapes cost slightlymore than the normal 8mm tapes, but only by a few dollars. The problem isthat you can't run into the local drug store and get these. You have to goto a local consumer electronics store or get them off the web. After buyingthose, you have to buy a new battery (1hr is simply not enough time for amajor family outing). The prices are around $80 for an 1 hour battery, $100for an 1 1/2 hour battery and $160.00 for the 2 1/2 hour battery. This unitcomes with a ton of software, so most people won't have to buy any extrafor editing your videos on the computer (or pictures).5-0 out of 5 stars JVC GR-DVL9800U

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product
This is a great product! It's lightweight, durable and very easy to use.You can add neat effects to what you are filming and can edit them using the software included. One very small yet a flaw none the less is that I can't find any more batteries for the camcorder and I'm stuck with one that doesn't last very long if you're constantly using it.All in all this is a great product that I'd highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good investment for vacations and family recording
I bought this camcorder 2 months ago. I have barely used it, but when I do I get great images and superb sound. This would be great with a computer (in which I do not have). I have plugged it in to my television for editing and playback. A good product for family use. Birthday parties, Holidays, and special occasions can all be recorded. This is the top of the line in technology with MINI DV.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great quality for the price
I haven't had the camera for very long, but my experiences with it thus far have shown it to be an excellent lower-to-middle range Mini DV cam for the money. It captures image and sound excellently, is lightweight and very easy to use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Happy owner for over a year
This is the first DV camera I've owned and I'm glad that I made the right choice. I've had this camera for over a year now (bought in Feb 2004) and have no major complaints with it. This camera has a very clear video quality that often amazes me! Digital stabilizer functions well. Stereo sound is good.
4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, Professional Looking Camcorder
I had gotten into filming a little bit and boy was I lucky to have gotten this Camcorder from JVC. It is PACKED with all kinds of features and will impress all who watch it and use it. It has a good native resolution of 1.3 mega-pixels, which for a camcorder is very good. Most Camcorders will have a .68 MP resolution, so this is very nice. I do like the size of it, although for my hands a little small, but still easier to handle than any of my friends camcorders. I have listed below some of the good's and bad's of the camcorder, and there are about two or three cons that made me give it a 4 star instead of five. There are a few little things that could affect how well you liked the product, if you were to get it.

generelly speaking, it is a good mini dv camcorder which is small size, lot of function and good quilty video image. but still image qulity is not good, especially indoor shooting.flash light doesn't help much. another problem is nightalive function is bad, video qulity dramatically decrases because it's shooting speed slows down, which is much worse than other digital camcorder.Read more

Mr.5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera
I love this camera and am thrilled that I bought it.There may be newer and sweeter gadgets out there nowadays since I bought mine back in 7/2000, but this still more than gets it done.Based on the ... ticket price on this site (as of 7/2002), it leads me to believe that this is still a very respected camera (can be found less expensive elsewhere, by the way).4-0 out of 5 stars A great little machine with one flaw
This was our first video camera, and it does a great job.Light, easy to use and to handle, good pictures, good zoom. The only flaw is that, to put it on AC power (e.g., if you want to watch movies on it), you have to remove the battery to get access to the outlet.Aside from that, a darned good camera, and I'd recommend it to friends. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome DV camera
Considering the low price, this camera has tons of features and the output is awesome. All you need is a Firewire cable and you can start editing movies right on your computer. This camera is actually less expensive than many VHS-C analog/Hi-8 analog cams. Good deal if you can find it.

5-0 out of 5 stars JVC-DVL100U
WOW! What a great camcorder, and what a great price. A lot of value in this product. Does everything I wanted in a camcorder. Pictures are crystal clear and it is so easy to use. You do not need a PHD in cameras to use this one. The Camera takes stills as well as movies. This camera has most of the features that are seen in very expensive cameras. Thanks for the value.

5-0 out of 5 stars Packs a powerful punch for a small price!
I must say when I bought the $400 camera that it wouldn't compare to, say, Canon or other big name digital cameras.I've already edited several videos on my computer that I imported from this JVC.Color me impressed! It is very full featured for such a low cost camera.I've used it several times already and am VERY happy with the results. It's a good camera with suprisingly good quality.Go for it! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Ages poorly after heavy use,but wow, nice!
Having put two years and about 50 hours on the camera, I must say it has done remarkably well. The zoom got a mind of its own about 8 hours ago (zoom-ins do not stay they, they zoom back out slowly and automatically). It has held up well otherwise.Interface with Mac OS9's FINAL CUT PRO was flawless. With Mac OSX (10.3.9) and I-Movie, not as responsive.
4-0 out of 5 stars Amazing video quality but poor still image
This camera is great while recording in bright light scence. The video quality is amazing. When I play it on my Sony WEGA TV, the color blue, green and red is so vivid. It looks just like DVD at all!!I am really satisfied about this. But unfortually when you use it in a low light condition, indeed, like previous reviews said, the color just washed out, the forcus can't stop changing. I really don't get it why a bright len like this (F1.8) has such poor performance in low light.5-0 out of 5 stars Still in love after heavy use!
After a week of heavy use while travelling in difficult lighting conditions and varied temps (0 - 40 deg C), indoors and out, shooting action, I still love this camera.Great pictures with honest color and no jaggies, fast reaction to subject moving in and out of shadow/sunlight, good sound, and easy to use even with gloves on. Battery life is short from monitor but recharges fast/easily with inverter in car and changes fast on fly.Spares are lightweight and fit handily in tiny belt-sized camera bag, so I still vote for convenience factor (I carried 2 spares).Downloads to hard-drive a snap.Menus easy to work and intuitive, and the blank search feature a plus to prevent broken timecode.Major improvements from previous top-of-line Sony.Purse-size will make it a constant companion, so no photo-ops missed.Highly recommended. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars great camcorder but insufficient information comes with it.
I've had my jvc model grdvf10 camcorder for over two years and have used it a lot and like it a lot. I do have a complaint though.Recently I decided to figure out how to hook it up to my computer which the salesman assured me I can do and which the instruction book indicates is doable.Well they're both right but neither of them told me it takes an accessory costing [more money] to make the hookup. That the salesman didn't tell me this and that the instruction booklet doesn't indicate it is avery misleading and I am not at all happy about it.

3-0 out of 5 stars No 1394/Firewire Capability
Older model came out just prior to 1394 standard.Lots of features, many of dubious value.RCA-style jacks are the only way to get video (analog only) to your computer for editing, limiting its usefulness as a digitalcamera.Included accessories are just gizmos that don't help the editingprocess. If you need digital AND want to edit with your computer, buy acamera that has 1394 capability.Otherwise, spend your money on Hi8 withmore available features.

3-0 out of 5 stars A average, normal cameracord
The JVC GR-DVF10 lets you take still photographs in a number of formats, from simple snapshots to borders and even multiple thumbnails. If you wantto download and edit your digital still images and video on a computer, however, you have to purchase a separate video capture card first. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars fire wire challenge
everything is nice, except the most important feature: challenge with exporting movies from the camcoder to the computer. Pentium 4 processor is highly recommended and it seems that all the files (no matter what quality you choose, refer to the manual) are at MPEG1 compression which practically renders them UNUSABLE! It takes cca 250MB of memory per one minute at normal quality! Everything else is impressive (don't get upset about the manuals and support, it could be better).

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice camcorder
I purchased this camera not to long ago so I'm still new to it. Video is pretty good and adjusts to light well. Optical zoom (10x) is nice, but digital does degrade video as with all cameras. I'm happy with still pictures and found out I had set resolution to the third highest level. I will be even happier to see the ones I take on highest level. I bought a few extra memory cards so I can continue taking pictures. 16mb that comes with camera is nice to begin with, but some space is taken up with special effects (sounds). As with most cameras, I'll be checking into extra battery. S-video in and out can be a nice feature seeing I'll be putting home video onto dvd or cvd. Viewer screen is nice size for reviewing and showing pictures or video. Loaded with features that I haven't had a chance to use yet, and you can put camera into total manual and manual focus for videoing far away with other things moving in front where autofocus would be trying to compensate. Onscreen controls are easy to use. DV port to sony laptop took some time to get to work, but heard of alot of people having problems with this with other cameras and computers. Happy so far. ... The GRDX75 features a high-performance 1/6" 680,000 Pixel CCD to capture high-quality video and digital photos. It's also fitted with a 16X optical zoom and a 700X digital zoom with spline interpolation. Digital zoom is a powerful tool, but it can lead to "jaggies"--zigzag contours that reduce picture quality. JVC has adopted spline interpolation to mathematically smooth such contours, making them look more natural. And since frame signals, not field signals, are processed, vertical resolution is increased, also improving quality. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Just my complaints
Wanted to say that the picture quality is somewhat lacking. Could have been better. And to state that there is NO analog to digital pass through feature on this camera. You can record from an analog source to the miniDV tape on the camera but it is NOT pass through. Thats all...the rest of the functions are up to par with what they have advertised. All in all a pretty good package. ... Read more
