With a lightweight design that's 30 percent smaller than previous models, the JVC GR-D250 MiniDV camcorder is an affordable choice for recording life's most important moments--from family gatherings to vacations. The GR-D250 has a 680K-pixel CCD with 340K effective pixels for video, and it can capture still photos and store them onto the tape. Other features include electronic image stabilization, color viewfinder, Web camera functionality, Firewire, S-Video, and composite video out connections. It also offers manual control of white balance, shutter speed, and aperture focus. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Its a good starter Camcorder
Tried it indoor and outdoor.. It works fine.. And dual voltage charger is a added advantage too.. Works great and a good starter camcorder..

4-0 out of 5 stars not a bad camcorder
I realy enjoy this camera. What most impresses me is the charge time is very fast. It is a good quality camera for the price. I don't care about the lower reviews, like anything there will be a few lemons out there, but don't let that discourage you. I realy recommend this one!

4-0 out of 5 stars Best deal - MiniDV 680K CCD Camera!
Great single sensor Mini DV camcorder. Has the same sensor and image quality as more expensive models. Easy to use. Great first buy for families who are starting in video. Doesn't have LEDs for night shots, although in most case it isn't a major inconvenience. Sound is good.

1-0 out of 5 stars It has zooming defect
I was happy with this one until it showed this problem. It automatically zooms in to the maximum. So now basically I can't use it any more. I initially thought maybe it's due to my operation somehow although I'm sure I'm gentle on it. However, after I searched online, I found that I'm not the only lucky one. Some poor dude said if he wants to use it, he has to put one finger on the "zoom out" button all the time in order to cancel out the automatic zoom in. I called JVC, and they said this is not a recognized defect for them, and they will charge me just for an "evaluation". I'd rather just throw away this junk.

1-0 out of 5 stars Zoom issue is a deal breaker
I bet this would be a decent camcorder, if the zoom issue wasn't there. It's apparently a major glitch with this model. I bought mine new, used it without incident for about three or four months and then it began zooming at will. It zooms all the way in when you turn it on, and won't stay at any other level of zoom. I sent it in under the parts warranty, but JVC authorized service people wanted over $200 for labor. I paid to have it fixed, it came back still broken, sent it back in, and within two months it started doing the same thing. I despise this camcorder and JVC. Their customer service people are rude, they routinely do not returns calls or emails and they sell a very expensive product that doesn't work properly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad starter Camcorder
I just bought my first Camcorder after doing alot of research of reading reviews and comparing different models. I was on a budget and needed a good starter camcorder after getting tired of looking i found a JVC DX77 model that was in Mint condition, came with original equipment and a 2 year transferable warranty and the price was under $200 - i thought to myself i couldnt beat this price. I have read reviews about a defect in the zoom and when i received mine that was the first thing i checked and relief fell over me when i didnt have that problem with mine. I have taken still photo's with my DX77 and they have turned out very nice - i was impressed. I have yet to get a tape and record but, i have been spending the past few days reading the manual and trying to figure out how it works, which has been fairly easy. Im not sure how other camcorders work but, i have been happy with mine and from the reviews ive read im sure i will be happy with the recording quality just as i am with the stills. After recording i plan on connecting it my computer to burn to DVD so the USB and Firewire are an excellent plus. This is a little camcorder but, i think for 1 lb. it is a little heavy for one hand to handle. I would also like to add that the snapshot button is alittle akward to push, its like you have to hold the camcorder with one hand and then push the button with the other. My conclusion is no camcorder is perfect and for the price i paid and the condition its in i think i got a good deal. I would recommend this little camcorder to anyone who is purchasing their first camcorder, wants decent still quality, or someone on a budget. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Low quality, short lifespan
Low light image is sub standard, but what can you expect for the price. Sadly the CCD blew up 30 days after 1 year warranty expired. It will be cheaper to replace than fix.
1-0 out of 5 stars JVC = Garbage
Don't waste your time on this junk.Mine blew up just out of warranty with a tape loading problem.Repairing is almost as expensive as purchasing a new model.
1-0 out of 5 stars Good Camcorder until "condensation" problem
I have had this camera for about 2 years.Worked great until about 6 months ago. When i would turn the camera on I would get a message that said "STOP CONDENSATION" it would last for a little while then the camera would work OK.As time went on, the message appeared more often and lasted longer. Now, it's hard to even use the camera, it works 1 out of every 25 times i turn it on.JVC won't respond to e-mail's and i have done everything to fix it that i have read on the internet.I cannot take it to a service center because they want $100 to just look at it and i think I can get a brand new one that hopefully will work for about $200.But you better believe it won't be a JVC. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Xtreme Proformer
Excellent Proformer GREAT video in any filming condition. I got 1 hour 48 mins of battery power from this camera. and all these errors that everyone is talking about is fixible. To fix just turn mode selector to manual setting then slide on the battery and hold the stop button then go to menu go to factory reset. It works because I have done it 2 times already. and jvc in japan tell me so. I bought mine there.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save for a better camcorder
With the best lighting conditions the video is great any other forget it. The audio? What audio, voices have to be yelling to be picked up and be heard on playback. There is no memory card if you're thinking of taking photos.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very HIGH Failure Rate
JVC Camcorders are highly UNreliable. Once they begin to display errors, you are done. This may occur very shortly after purchase. I received the infamous "Unit in safeguard mode error E04" and that was the end of it. Got some other errors. I did everything the camera (and instructions) told me to do...change the batter, bought a new battery, cleaned the head etc... But it just does not matter. You will get errors. And once you have these errors, the camera refuses to work. And in some cases, it refuses to simply stay ON long enough to do anything at all, including getting your tape out of it.

1-0 out of 5 stars JVC Does Not Stand Behind Their Products - JVC Lemoncorder
I agree with the many other users who have experienced the "Condensation, Operation Paused" defect on their JVC GR-90DU.Despite numerous others reporting this problem, JVC says its not a recognized problem.I would disagree - it is a recognized problem, but its your problem, not theirs.
3-0 out of 5 stars Condensation Error Again
We purchased the GRD50 2 years ago and with less than 50 hours use in that time we have had the dreaded Condensation Error twice now. Once during the warranty and now just last week. JVC are waiting to hear from the repairer before they commit to covering the cost of the repairs. The camera has worked perfectly other then the condensation error.

1-0 out of 5 stars JVC GR-D30U Has Problems
Our family bought the JVC GR-D30U a couple of years ago and have used it infrequently, but lately it's been unreliable. It worked fine for awhile and the main problem was that it's wide-angle capability is poor.

1-0 out of 5 stars to small
it's just to small. good video and small camera do not go hand in hand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Please be accurate with you information on the GZ-MC200
This is a great camcorder. Ray Price is incorrect on the 4 gig limit as I am running a high speed 8 gig cf card and it works fine. I get 2 hours 9 minutes out of the card on ultra fine and about 30% less battery drain than the micro drive. I really like this camcorder.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent! More than pleased... and still just as good as the newer, more expensive larger-capacity JVC models.
Of course you've already read the con's about low light performance, but you can fix this by setting the "M" mode (manual)to "Cloudy" and selecting 1/30-1/60th shutter speed. I use 1/30th - and it's works like a charm.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lens Cap Error
I had this camera for 14 months before I got the "Lens Cap" error.JVC wil not repair it eventhough they have a recall program on many camcorders with similar problems with the CCD chip.It was great camera while it worked, but I am not going to spend $200.00 to fix this problem. One thing I am absolutly sure of is that " I WIL NEVER BUY ANOTHE JVC PRODUCT AGAIN.
2-0 out of 5 stars If you dont use it! You loose it!...JVC
I have been an avid JVC customer. I guess this is because JVC in Asia where I was from are good products, just like my Toyotas, reliable. So when I came to the USA. All JVC appliances and equiptments that I may use, I have. From home AV recievers, tv, lcd auto stereos, speakers, dvd players, mega cd changers. MOST DID NOT LAST LONG. The only one working are my TVs and the ones I often use. I know now for a fact that JVC products break if you dont use them, but I do not have the time anymore. As I am writing this review AmericanTV will repair my JVC GRDF450U MiniDV Camcorder but I will have to buy a new camera for my daugthers recital because they may not be able to fix it quicker.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I bought this camera seven months ago.I went to turn it on the day before we were leaving for a family vacation and I got the lens cap error.Needless to say I didn't have a videocamera for our vacation. When I got back I called JVC and they said that my model was not covered under their special repair program because they hadn't had many lens cap errors with this camera.Eighteen other models are covered until October of 2007 if they get a lens cap error, but the 450U isn't.It is a known issue, they should be standing by all of their products, but they aren't.I also sent JVC customer service two e-mails, and two weeks later I have yet to hear a response.

Don't waste your time on this junk.Mine blew up just out of warranty with a tape loading problem.Repairing is almost as expensive as purchasing a new model.
4-0 out of 5 stars Best in both world (video & still) for the price
For USD399, you get good quality video and digital stills. PC Magazine review this as one of the highest resolution camcorder [...]. DVSpot also give this camcorder good review. Included battery life is short. But you can look in Amazon for JVC VUA228KIT Camcorder Starter Kit for GRD33US/72US/93US/200US/230US & GRDV500which has 4 hour battery, MiniDV tape, and case and it only cost you USD30 (after huge discount).
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Video, Very Decent Snaps
This is probably the best time to buy this camcorder for an unbelievable price of 399.00, its well worth it! Video quality is great and photos at 1600*1200 res. aint bad for a camcorder!! 4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the price.
The DV is in a weird place, on the bottom, which makes inserting a new tape while the camcorder is on a tripod impossible.
4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Camcorder
I've had this camcorder now for 6 months. Here are some of the things I have found.First you know to purchase a firewire. The charger, I found a nice charger that you put the battery in the unit and plug the whole thing into the electrical socket. That is nice. I don't know if other camcorders have the same type lense cover, but this one stinks. It falls off alot. Whoever designed it should be immediately drug tested. Still shots are so-so. Don't expect them to be like a digital camera quality. I think it is good shooting in overcast or indoors. Of course since this is my first one, I have nothing to campare it to. But all in all I'm satisfied.

1-0 out of 5 stars defective product

2-0 out of 5 stars Modest camera with flaws..
Pros: Small Format - That's it4-0 out of 5 stars This is great !
I bought mine from a different website, but since I have been a long time customer and user of of Amazon.com website, I thought of giving this review to aid other customers old and new. I have this mini cam for about a month now and I used it when I vacationed in California just last month. I never regret buying it. My family and friends have a great time watching our pictures on TV everytime we return from one of our siteseeing trips. I just give it a four star for now because I still have not use all it's features yet. There's just too many to read and install in order for me to fully utilize it. Overall, I think I got my money's worth. It's convenient and easy to use (the still and video cam only). It can get great pictures, and you can use the auto flash if the lighting is not good. The LCD monitor is not so clear on a bright day, but who's complaining, just delete your not so good shots and just keep the best. I haven't used the viewfinder that much since even in 35mm camera I find the viewfinder too small, I used the LCD most of the time. You just need to buy additional battery, which I did. I bought the BNV840 before but it weighs just the same as the camera itself, so I end up exchanging it with BNV312. Plus the former one needs a different charger which I have to buy separately. I will definitely recomend this with anyone. Also I bought a 128mb SD memory card in addition to the 8md that is included in the video package, though I haven't used up my 8mb yet. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, small, MiniDV Camcorder.
The GR-DX300U is the ideal size for outdoor enthusiasts. The camera is small, light and fits perfectly in a backpack or pocket.Despite its size, the 3 inch LCD screen is beautiful, but the viewfinder is easier to use in bright, sunny conditions (unfortunately the viewfinder is B/W).Battery life is dismal and you will need to purchase a backup battery (1 hour at best).Digital still pictures are fair and still do not seem to be as clear or vibrant as those taken by an actual digital camera (I rarely use the camera for stills). However, video quality is excellent and footage is easily transferred to your computer through the fire-wire port (using Windows ME and IE-1339 card and cable). With the correct software, DVD editing and creation is a blast! I have also used the JVC GR-DVM76U and am very pleased with JVC's quality and performance.

After using this camera very happily for about a year and a half, suddenly videos became very blocky when onscreen objects moved. Now, instantly, everyone reading this is going to say, "How obvious, the heads are dirty."But I don't think this is the case.I have cleaned the camera with a cleaning tape about once every two or three weeks, or when it looked like the heads needed cleaning. But about two months ago, that stopped helping. The picture has become progressively blockier.A couple of days ago, I gently cleaned the heads with q-tips and a non-harming cleaning solution, but this did nothing to improve the camera's condition.2-0 out of 5 stars THINK BEFORE YOU BUY !!!
I confess... I made the unforgivable mistake !!!!! 5-0 out of 5 stars Advanced technology in a small package
This is my second camcorder. My first-a Sony-met an untimely end with the ground with assistance from gravity and loose fingers. Read more

Editorial Review

The GR-DX95 features a high-performance 1/6" 680,000 Pixel CCD to capture high-quality video and digital photos. It's also fitted with a 16X optical zoom and a 700X digital zoom with spline interpolation. Digital zoom is a powerful tool, but it can lead to "jaggies"--zigzag contours that reduce picture quality. JVC has adopted spline interpolation to mathematically smooth such contours, making them look more natural. And since frame signals, not field signals, are processed, vertical resolution is increased, also improving quality. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great videos but poor pictures?
I bought this camcorder more than 1 year ago, and I'm quite satisfied with it, as it really makes good videos, and the special effects are useful too. The flash is not so good, but that's ok. Which I find strange is the bad quality of the pictures, they're supposed to get good resolution. I still hope that's because I just don't have the best software (Pixela Image Mixer 1.0 which came with the cam.), and I'm looking for it. I believe that if the pictures can only be captured that bad, the option wouldn't exist... If anyone knows of any better software and want to let me know at (...)I'd be pleased!
4-0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect. Worth its (nice) price.
My new camcorder works as fine as expected and delivers everything I need : high-quality video, easy-to-use functions, compact design with incredible size and weight, 3" LCD color display, editing software (Pixela Image Mixer with VCD)...5-0 out of 5 stars great camcorder
I have the camcorder for about a week. works great no real down falls to this cam. everything you'd except in a small compact camcorder priced nicely too. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The worst deal without warranty
I bought it around 3 months. Now it can not play. The vedio is messed with strips. Actually, I used it only several time will totally brand new cassettes. When I connect with JVC, the maintenance man charge me 30 dollars for a look and uncertain dollars for labor. It is crazy!!!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for those looking for a budget digital camcorder!
After reading many reviews (good and bad), I decided to spend my hard earned money on this JVC camcorder because of the price and all the features.I bought this camcorder back in February when Amazon had it on sale for 66% off (main reason of purchase). So far, it has probably been the best purchase I have ever made.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Buy!
I was looking for a camcorder to film my young child as she grows and anything else important.I find this one very easy to operate and very compact and neat. Picture is hi resolution so it looks really good on TV. It also takes great snap shotsI have gotten compliments on how nice it is.

5-0 out of 5 stars this is a great camcorder. it's so cool.
I have this cam almost 2 years. Before i will buy it.I have to read any review and check at the store.I have many choice to buy another brand cam like sony, canon, pana, etc. When i think again and again . I think this is the great one.And for the problem that someone got it.I know how to fix it by yourself.
2-0 out of 5 stars Zoom gone mad!
I bought the grdx97 camera new, back in march 2005.This past month or so, the camera has begun malfunctioning. When turned on, within a few seconds of recording, the zoom automatically starts, resulting in a blur.I tried changing the zoom feature to limit the max zoom at 12x, but still, it zooms to the max of 12x, thus limiting my ability to film anything at home.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good overall performance. Some motor noise
I just received this camera.I bought it to replace a 5yr old JVC GR-DVM90 which was about the same size. That one died and had the dreaded E04 error.

2-0 out of 5 stars Display screen has gone twice on this camcorder
I've had this camcorder for almost 4 years now and yes it is extremely portable and compact, but the screen on this camcorder has gone black on me twice. The first time it went it displayed a rainbow of colors when opening the display which made it useless and had to send it out to JVC for repair and had no camera for almost 3 weeks. Now it has just gone bad again and this time it's completely black making the eyepiece the only way to record which is nearly impossible on this small camcorder.Overall, the color quality and features are good from this camcorder but I've had too many problems with this item now to give it more than two stars.Any consumer shouldn't have to replace an LCD screen on their camcorder 2 times within a two year time frame.I wouldn't recommend buying this item. While the portability of it is nice, the lack of being able to actually record on it far outweighs any of it's strong points that it does have. With a newborn and 3 year old at home I need a camcorder that actually can record on the fly and shouldn't have to worry about whether or not the screen will turn on.

1-0 out of 5 stars Should've bought a Sony DCRIP5 instead!!!
I just got this camcorder and I got very disappointed. It was impossible for me to use it on an outdoor party at night.5-0 out of 5 stars Best features for the size

2-0 out of 5 stars MY JVCEVERIO MG40 AS AN EXPERIENCED CAMERA USER. EVEN TOOK COURSE IN COLLEGE
I GIVE 2 POINTS AS I CANNOT ACCESS MY VIDEO FOOTAGE TOCOMMENT ON QUALITY. THE CAMERA IS EASY TO RECORD. IT IS LIKE ALL OTHER CAMCORDERS. THE PRINT ON THE CAMERA IS VERY DIFFICULT TO READ EVEN WITH GLASSES.I AM NO TECHNOPEASANT BY ANY MEANS.I HAVE READ AND REREAD THE INSTRUCTIONS.I CAN NOT GET THE CAMERA TO REWIND OR PLAYBACK.I CALLED JVC.YESTERDAY I WAS ON HOLD FOR 45 MIN.WHEN A FEMALE PICKS UP THE PHONE, SAYS, I THINK! CALL BACK TOMORROW AND SLAMMED THE PHONE DOWN. I TRIED FOR HOURS TODAY TO GET THROUGH, EVEN TO GET THROUGH TO AN OPERATOR. NO LUCK, JVC SUCKS. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THE 2ND BIGGEST CONSIDERATION YOU SHOULD TAKE ONCE YOU DECIDE TO BUY AN EXPENSIVE PRODUCT. WITHOUT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE HOW CAN WE GET OPERATION INFORMATION WHEN HELP IS NEEDED . THINK ABOUT IT! WON'T YOU!

3-0 out of 5 stars works ok but...
This camera is easy to operate but when it comes to getting the footage on the camera turned into a DVD it is not so easy. I am a fairly comfortable and experienced computer user but not an expert. The software included has very inadequate instructions. For example it says "never plug the camera into the computer while the camera is turned on". Later it says "don't ever turn the camera on or off with it plugged into the computer". Hmmm, this makes it awfully hard to transfer files! An email to JVC customer service received no reply!
4-0 out of 5 stars Great little camera, but night shooting a little grainy.
I really like the long record time of this camera.I bought this camera for my trip to Europe, and it was great. It's small, yet powerful.I could record off and on for days before having to dump the movies on my laptop.I would suggest getting a second battery, preferably the 3 hour. The 5 hour is almost the size of the camcorder itself, and made it heavier.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well This Review should have been in 2002
For all those with the dreaded cleaning error, I can sympathize - my experience has been somewhat better - I used a Panasonic cleaning tape and that pretty much solved the error problems - we bought the camcorder back in july of 2002 I think for roughly $400.00 off of ebay - Looking back I probably would have gone with a Sony MiniVHS recorder - whatever it's called (the type that takes the small VHS tapes) - Anyway I use only sony DV tapes and that seems to have saved me... I really feel bad for alot of people who had problems with this thing - Customer service person said eventually it will need a new Drum Head - for 250.00 but that won't happen! Again I can't emphasize using a/the Panasonic cleaning tape - Take care folks - JVC is wrong for putting out this product with out testing it thoroughly -

1-0 out of 5 stars JVC Does Not Stand Behind Their Products - JVC Lemoncorder
I agree with the many other users who have experienced the "Condensation, Operation Paused" defect on their JVC GR-xxxx. Despite numerous others reporting this problem, JVC says its not a recognized problem. I would disagree - it is a recognized problem, but its your problem, not theirs.

2-0 out of 5 stars An average camera with an infinite recording time
I bought this to replace my broken Digital8 Sony camcorder and the same sales guy who sold me the Sony 6 years ago advised me to buy this JVC, on one single criterion: the near-infinite hard disk drive storage. This was almost the only claim that was actually fulfilled.
