4-0 out of 5 stars Great camera--but a little sensitive
Love the camcorder and the fact that you never have to buy tapes or those stupid little 20-minute discs. The quality is great. And you can upgrade to a three-hour battery, so battery life isn't a concern. My only drawbacks: 1) camera can be very sensitive; I took it to the beach and jostled it around a little and the zoom and focus stopped working, and 2) using it with a program like Sony's Click to DVD software scrambles the clips, so when you edit before burning to DVD you have to go back, frame by frame, and rearrange the clips in the order you shot them in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Convenience, convenience, convenience, and features!
I moved up from a MiniDV camcorder to this one because of the hard-drive recording. It was a *great* purchasing decision. My personal favorite features:

1-0 out of 5 stars JVC Does Not Stand Behind Their Products - JVC Lemoncorder

5-0 out of 5 stars Best thing in video since sliced bread
This unit has a very user friendly interface and is very easy to figure out for the average consumer.I work in the motion picture industry as a cameraman, so I do have a unique perspective. It does take a while to figure out the software and the the best way to download the video, but once you get it, it's as good as apple pie.The one downside is this unit's operating temperature. It gets very hot the longer it's powered. But that's the price you have to pay with a hard drive camcorder this small.Even with the state of the art Professional High Definition cameras in the motion picture industry, you still have over heating issues as well as power consumption issues.Eventually this will be solved, but for now, this is as good as it gets.

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't believe the hype
Bought this camera last month to replace my 2 year old MiniDV camera. Though I am impressed with the small size and low weight, the video quality is not as fabulous as others are suggesting, even after tweaking the settings. Recording outdoors in direct sunlight is good, the colors are fresh, but not so good when trying to shoot something in shadow. Trying to shoot inside in low light, even with the gain on, was extremely poor. The video quality is nothing close to High Definition (HD), and in my opinion no better than my JVC MiniDV camcorder. I've viewed the video on both my 19" LCD and my 65" HDTV and remain unimpressed with the video quality (most notably pixelation when filming moving objects). So, I guess it's going to go back and I'll wait for something that provides HD quality recording at a reasonable price. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent little camera
This is the first camcorder I've ever owned. I saw it demonstrated on the shopping channel, and eventually went shopping myself for an equal good price. It's a 2006 model, and has only been around for a few months. After having it just a few days so far...I'd say so far so good! I'd have to say it's fairly simple to operate, and offers a great many bells & whistles for the price. The 32x optical zoom is what sold me, and it works like a charm. The digital zoom extends that to 64x and 800x. I have yet to try out the "super-zoom". The camera features stabilization control, but I'll admit its still tough to keep it steady even at 32x! The other features include night vision, live slow, an automatic focusing control, with auto white balance etc... and can operate as a digital (still) camera as well. If I was to make design changes, it would be to have some of the operating controls, FF - STOP - etc, on the outside of the unit, instead of having to open the LCD viewfinder to operate many of the basics. The only operational button within easy reach, is to release the pause mode & record from standby. Actually, the button to take "a picture" is right there too.

5-0 out of 5 stars JVC A Winner with Remote Control Zoom
I absolutely LOVE this JVC GR-395.It is difficult to find a MiniDV camcorder with remote control, let alone a reasonably priced one.I have been able to shoot some outstanding video thanks to the remote zoom.I have owned at least 5 MiniDV cams and am soooo pleased with this camera.A couple weeks later I purchased a refurbished Sharp MiniDV with a remote and the thing stopped working after just a couple days.I am not a professional, but I strongly recommend this unit for anyone wanting a dependable unit with super features for a great price.Don't even hesitate.Just order this thing TODAY.You'll be thrilled with this camera! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars We LOVE it!
This camcorder is great! It is small, and very light. It is easy to use.The only thing I don't like is that the extended battery sticks out from the back of the camera so far.Even the battery that it came with looks too big.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lightweight, Easy to Use, Excellent Video Quality
The Everio GZMG27 HDD Camcorder is a wonderful camcorder with lots of handy features at a value price.Although the battery that comes with the camcorder has a limited life, I didn't feel that this was a huge drawback since I always like to buy a spare anyway. The 20 GB capacity seems to be more than adequate and it is easy to transfer to other storage media. The zoom feature is powerful enough to bring out the flaws on the face of a Hollywood star and the Automatic shooting mode allows you to start taking good videos straight from the box. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Amateur camera
Great for those of us who are new at this type of camera and affordable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good camcorder but not great
This camcorder was bought in September 2005 and is still working well. I was talking a film class and didn't want to have the hassle of borrowing my school's $1000+ camcorder. Knowing full well that Canon and Sony, especially Sony, would be the best camcorder for people wanting their shots to look professional, I looked on Amazon and Circuit City to see reviews. I went into Stereo Advantage and well, walked out with a JVC due to the fact that it was a little less expensive then some of the other camcorders. So, the advantages and disadvantages:
3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad but I would buy something better
I bought this, 6 months ago, right before my wedding. Whereas this is not a bad miniDV recorder, it certainly isn't good either.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, even if you have a Mac!
I make a living producing videos with Mac's. I own this camera and I love it but there is one truth: the camera is not supported by JVC for Mac's... but that does not matter since you can still have a great experience. 1-0 out of 5 stars Too bad it doesn't work & JVC service doesn't
I researched and compared over a dozen minidv camcorders, and based on function and picture and price, this item was the far winner. And if JVC ever fixes it, I'll give another review; I've had it for four months, and I haven't been able to use it yet. It was broken from day 1, and I had to send it to their service center. They changed some parts and sent it back but must not have tested it because it had the same problem. I sent it to the service center again with an even more detailed note about the problem, and I got it back again today and it still has the original problem. I'm convinced that JVC doesn't QA the repairs that they perform.

1-0 out of 5 stars Design Flaw
This camera has a design flaw. The integrated microphone does NOT shut off when you use an auxilary microphone. It says in the manual that it is supposed to. I sent it back to JVC many times, and the service personal compensated me by disconnecting the internal microphone permanently.
5-0 out of 5 stars Try actually owning the camera...
So you reviewed this camera based on the reviews that 3 other people gave to a different model?I'm giving 5 stars just offset your stupidity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love love LOVE it!
The 5 main reasons I purchased this camcorder:
5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good camera for trips, you need a better battery though
The quality is awesome, the ergonomics is just super (the four way stick in the LCD for starters), the transfer capabilities are nice (just plug it in to ANY PC and it becomes an external hard drive with video files, although you have to rename the .MOD to .MPG), and the zoom/frame rate is great. (Upto 32X optical and .5-4000 fps - this is really good for shooting as you like).

3-0 out of 5 stars A disappointment. Don't be fooled by the 5MP claim. The lense is quite inferior.
this is a very compact camcorder. However, the 5MP 3-CCD is useless if the lense is inferior. That's what happens to this JVC miniDV. The lense is not from any lense specialist, it's made by JVC itself. You have to look at the camcorder lense carefully to see "JVC video lense". The vidoe quality therefore is limited. There are tiny dots when you play it back on TV. I compared this with Sony DCR-HC96 and Panasonic PV-GS500 and decided that PV-GS500 is the best for the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Do not be fooled by the size!
This camcorder has taken on the big boys of the video market. Once you get used to the design, you can make anything you can create in your mind, with almost as vivid color as real life! Okay, I could be blowing things out of proportion, but for the money, it is truely an amazing mechanism. The still picture is definitely impressive in comparison to other video cameras testing the hybridism of multi-use cameras. The only thing that was not amazing, like all other prosumer camcorders, was the sound quality from the built in mic. It is placed on top of the camera, picking up more of the gear sounds from the tape, than the subject in front of the lens. Definitely the best camera for a person breaking into videography on a budget. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars "Lens Cap On" = CCD Replacement Program
A bit more info on the program. It does exist. It is free. You send in your camera or, if in a big city, take it in to a repair center for the free replacement. It does not matter if your camera is out of warranty. The replacement program exists in other countries as well (at least the UK and Canada). JVC is standing behind their product and you really have to respect them for that. (This problem of the bad CCD occurs in a dozen or more models manufacturred during 2002 and 2003.)
3-0 out of 5 stars JVC Lens Cap error- special repair program
For those of you that have experienced (or will experience) the Lens Cap error often mentioned in user reviews of JVC camcorders. Here is a link to a JVC "special repair program" that I found while researching this issue online:
3-0 out of 5 stars Good for the money
It's not a super expensive camcorder so you get what you pay for.In good light situations, the camcorder is great. In lower light it does go out of focus. The still shots are just OK, but I wasn't really expecting to have great quality. It would be nice if JVC supplied the needed memory card for still pictures.Overall, I'm satisfied with this product.

They also record more than 10.5 hours at a quality level comparable to a DVD camcorder’s 30-minute mode. Recording-time capabilities for all four models in the Everio G series are impressive: The GZ-MG20 and GZ-MG40 offer 4 hours and 50 minutes of recording time at DVD quality and 25 hours at lower-resolution Internet quality; the GZ-MG30, GZ-MG50, and GZ-MG70 record for 7 hours and 10 minutes at DVD quality and 37 hours at Internet quality.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A l'il sumpthin' to generally consider...
Frankly, I like my MG30. The only thing that gives me pause is its propensity to physically generate heat to the point of becoming uncomfortable to hold. This is a well known problem within the JVC line itself. (Much like Honda cars and bikes having BAD RINGS. They've known forever - but they just never correct it...)
2-0 out of 5 stars What Were They Thinking
Other people have covered the good aspects of this camcorder - light weight, no tapes/discs to mess with, pretty good menu. However, these are easily outweighed by the lack of thought by JVC's engineers; and to add insult to injury, the downfall of this camcorder hinges on the very feature that is supposed to be it's selling point - storing video files on a hard drive (and not other media).
5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest camcorder ever!
I read all the reviews and have to say I have no idea what they are talking about. Sure you need a computer thats not 3 years old and up to date software like anything thats new these days. But just imagine NEVER having to buy tapes or CD's again! And the picture is always prefect! I am in love with this camcorder. Its like my forth one and I had the best DVD camcorder, there is just no way to compair them. Inside, outside, in the sun, in the dark are all a great picture. My sister used it for her sons birthday , now she bought one of her own and loves it as much as I do. And all the people having issues transfering video files or pictures to anything, hmmm, I dont know but it takes me 5 to 10 minutes to sort and then i just burn them. You have to buy this camcorder, you'll love it! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Great if you get the extended warranty
We got this 3 yrs ago.For the price we paid, it was packed with features and performed well for the most part.We didn't bother with the included software since we had Pinnacle.A year ago (2 yrs after purchase) we had blotches and blackouts on tapes when viewing previously taped DVs.Went through and scratched up bunches of tapes before trying out the head cleaners.Things were ok until few months ago.The motor to eject and receive the cartridge started to get stuck. After jiggling few times, even brute force, it would be ok.Now this past weekend, after we tried to use it to tape our son's birthday party, it degenerated to the point where it's 'eating up' tapes and it takes several minutes of coaxing to get the tape to go in or out.Time for a decent burial me thinks.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good for the 1st year after that terrible
We bought our camera new and thought it was GREAT! We took pictures with it mostly and did take some videos of holidays and our kids' programs, ect. Now 2 years and only 6 mini-dv tapes down the line we get an error message stating "head cleaning needed". Well we went out and bought the "needed" head cleaning cassette and ran it through. The next time, and every time since you get into taping about 5 minutes and that same message pops up. JVC's customer support is terrible. All they can say is, "take it to an authorized service center apparently your heads are bad. Well for us the closest one is 120 miles away. Add that to the cost of $50-$100/hour labor plus parts to get it fixed, are you nuts? You can probably buy a new camera by the time your done. As others have stated in their reviews, the software compatibility is also another issue they won't help you with. Just keep searching on the net and you'll eventually find someone that can help you with that problem. I am very disappointed with JVC and I wish people would wait a while before they write these reviews. People writing them a month or two after having their product is good to explain all the nice features, but how is it working now a few years down the road?

1-0 out of 5 stars Model GR-D30U
I've owned a model GR-D30U for less than two years.Yesterday the camcorder just quit powering on. The DC will not work, the battery will not charge. It simply will not turn on at all. Worse, I have a tape in there that I cannot remove without a hammer. The store I bought it from wants $100 just for "diagnosis."Just another case of expensive disposable electronics. My choice next time will not be JVC, a brand I used to trust.

3-0 out of 5 stars If I had read these reviews
If I had read the previous reviews I would not have purchased this camera. That would have been a mistake. I have used this camera for over a year without any problems. I have a professional JVC GY-DV5000 that costs thousands of dollars and this little camera will come close to the same picture quality when shooting outside. Shooting inside and low light conditions is where you realize what you paid for. The 93 will not produce good color if you don't have enough light but I don't think that many consumer models from any other manufacturer will either. Especially at this price point.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy A JVC
I purchased a GR-D70 2 years ago. Last week it quit for no reason at all. I've probably used it 10 times. It looks like brand new, well taken care of, never dropped or abused. Since I paid over $400 for it, and it's had such little use,I thought JVC would stand behind their product. WRONG! Their recommendation is to have you ship it to a service center, pay an unreal amount for repair, and hope it lasts another 2 years. I have never paid so much for a new camera and have it totally fail in 2 years. After much research I find quite a number of people with similiar and other failures on a multitude of JVC Digital cameras. My recommendation is to not buy ANY JVC products! Thank you. ...
