Editorial Review

The Celestron 93624 Narrowband Oxygen III 2-inch filter is a remarkable advance for the serious visual observer of emission nebulae. One of the biggest advantages of narrowband filters is that by passing only the light emitted by nebulae, light from artificial sources like street lights is blocked. This allows you to take detailed exposures of nebulas from a suburban location that can rival shots from much darker sites. The Celestron 93624 is made of high quality, solid plane parallel glass. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice deal for a nice price.
Good power and spotting capability for a price quite a bit less than the better known names. I was a little leary at first but that is no longer true.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Celestron C65 Mini Mak
Simply put..dont bother. The optics suck. At 90x forget any though of a clear image and its barely functional at 30x. The build of the unit even looks cheezy. Their binoculars put their spotter scopes to shame.. that is how bad it is.

2-0 out of 5 stars Celestron C65 Mini Mak Waterproof JUNK!
I purchased this spotting scope, now I am sending it back! I attempted to thumb my nose at fellow gun enthusiasts, by not wishing to spend $250 on a spotting scope. I think I can spend less but not on this Mini-Mak.

4-0 out of 5 stars Celestron SE 8i, XLT
I've read the previous reviews. Those people were a little tough on the scope ! I'll keep it short and simple.Packaging was good, no problems. The sturdiness of the mount is not a problem with the weight of this scope tube. I have had NO difficulties with it. Above all, I feel the optics are quite satisfactory. This isn't the Hubble ST you know !Locked in the finder and centered it. Have had two "carry trips" to the back yard and it's still quite accurate. The Alignment for the Go-To requires you enter a good time, exact location and have the scope LEVEL. (mount a bubble level in the middle of the battery lid)Locate the three alignment stars in the CENTER of the eyepiece. If you do it carefully it works great !The power drain on 8 dbl A's is a bit much.Took a cheap 12V-7 mAh Batt, added a plug and have PLENTY of power.I let the 8 Batteries in as a back up so as not to lose alignment if my connection is lost. As far as the control holding clip, it could be better but as I move around the scope observing, I find I leave it "dangle" anyway. The 25mm Eyepiece supplied is good. With this scope, wide field (68 deg x 25 to 40 mm), low power EP's are a great addition. An Ultra Block Filter is also a good idea for nebulae. Going to try a focal reducer soon. All in all I'm pleased with the set up.It's price wasn't crippling for 8 inches of aperture. It's not a big pain to move around. With proper care it should last me for years.

2-0 out of 5 stars The NexStar 8i XLT telescope is disappointing for a newbie astronomer.
Admittedly I am very new to astronomy; however, I performed lots of research when looking for a telescope. I originally wanted to stay around the four-hundred dollar range for a telescope, but quickly fell for all the "Nice" features.
5-0 out of 5 stars An amazingly wonderful telescope!
I have always wanted a telescope and I have never owned one. After doing a lot of research I decided on getting the Nexstar 8i SE because I wanted to do more than just occasional observing. It was the best decision that I made.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not perfect
The primary reason I bought this scope was to do photography, and it's nice for that.I've used it to take pictures, and they come out nicely, but the scope is -big- and I'm having trouble finding an appropriate carrying case for it, which is a bit of a pain.I'd have gladly paid more for the scope had it come with a custom case.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not pleased
I chose these because of the optics, BAK-4, multi-coated, etc. And they may be great, but I rejected them out of the box because the other design considerations were lacking. The neck cord is a shoestring and there are no "handles" to attach a comfortable strap. The weight "feels" a lot heavier than the specification. Comparing these to my old porro-prism Bushnells, I think the porros are more compact. Definitely lighter. I'll be re-ordering something along those lines. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a good deal from Celestron
I had formed a good impression of Celestron based on my experience with the Nexstar5, so I was quite disappointed with the price:quality ratio of this accessory. What you get for the money is a fairly inexpensive plastic case (production cost to Celestron, probably <$10) and several sheets of pre-scored, low-density foam. The idea is you are supposed to "pluck" out pieces of the foam until you've got a cavity that fits the very irregular profile of the scope. I guess that's the idea - there are no instructions in the box as to how to achieve the fit. And after over an hour of very careful plucking, I ended up with a very unsatisfactory result. In order to fit the scope and foam in the box, you have to thin down the foam margins to the point that they fall apart (remember, they are pre-scored right to the edges). The margins are also thin enough so that I doubt they would provide much shock protection. Finally, the multiple floppy sheets have no way to hang together when the scope isn't in the box.Overall, it's a very poor product for the price, and very surprising, as it would have been very cheap for Celestron to supply a pair of pre-formed foam inserts. ... The Celestron C102HD telescope is regarded as a major bargain for good reason. Instead of computerized bells and whistles, you get the solid optical performance of a full sized four-inch achromatic refractor combined with a serviceable German Equatorial mount. 4-0 out of 5 stars Celestron C102HD 102mm Refractor Celestron C4-R
Ordered The C102HD but believe this is the newer version Celestron C4-R. On just one night of viewing, conditions hazy, Still able to view one of my favorites, Saturn. Cassini division easily visible, nice image at 160X, used one of my own eyepieces 12.5mm plus 2x short focus barlow. A band stood out and well wrapped around the planet. Did not notice any Chromatic Abberation on Saturn. The optics on this 4 inch objective are impressive for such a value priced telescope ! The Mount works very well goes and stops were you want it, the tripod is aluminum, not the stroger tube variety, making the works abit shaky, but otherwise supports well. Another favorite Jupiter started to rise but conditions changed to heavy overcast before I could give a better rating, the two large bands were well separated and detail was starting to appear then clouds moved in. Jupiter did produce some color distortion but not that objectionable to me. Only star tests were Sirius (brightest star in the heavens) and the companion to Polaris (North Star). Sirius did show some of chromatic abberation but not all that bad, Polaris at 160X was satisfying with its blue companion well placed. Managed to view a few open clusters but again sky conditions not favorable, will update in future. UpDATE: Yet to reach a dark sky, intown viewing, the famed Orion Nebula, beautiful flower-like, couldn't resist 160X on the also popular Trapezium (4 tight stars inside the Orion Nebula), actually an overkill at this power, stars filled with black between them, Very Nice! Just above the three star belt of orion is a fainter M78 Nebula,is much smaller, noticeably brighter than the ETX90.
5-0 out of 5 stars WoW
I finally had a clear night although it was a bit on the windy side, and I was very impressed with the performance of my C102HD refractor. I have never really had a real Telescope I alway's Fell to the ads of those high powered store sold 60mm. refractors, those are junk. I saw more on that one night than I have all of my life, I saw the Orion Nebula for the first time,it was great at 50 power with the 20mm. eyepiece, also the moons of Jupiter were very sharp plus the rings of Saturn, I also bought the Celestron accessory kit so I have plenty of options when it comes to power. I just can't say enough to express my delight with my new scope and probably can't say it right. But this a real quality item, and amazon.com is a great place to purchase it, they have great service and the scope came very well packed. So I would really recommend one of these scopes you will really be pleased and amazed at it's performance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every bit worth the wait!
I used to work on 10" and 12" refractors and in comparison this scopes only lacks in size. I started running around in circles after looking at the amazingly sharp views of Saturn, Jupiter, the Moon, and the Orion nebula the first night. Stars are sharp pinpoints. Plan to buy additional eyepieces as this 20mm Plossl (pretty decent per se) is just a starter. My 6mm eyepiece works beautifully at 150x. With the 2x Barlow lens, the 20mm gives you 100x. In a light polluted city (like where I live), the best I could get was around 200x.Read more
