celestron ultima 2X barlow
The application for this barlow on my 8i/GPS SCT/XLT was to gain higher magnification options from longer focal length and eye relief eyepieces (ELux and Xcel 25-18-15mm)and stay in modest price ranges for everything. COMMON TESTS with the barlow vs. short focal length eyepieces to 8mm was most favorable: a) using both common and wide angle FOV eyepieces and b)testing with and without eye glasses while c) viewing Polaris double, Jupiter & moons and the Moon. Seeing conditions were poor (Dallas, summer, early evening sky with a lot of Moonlight.) Never the less I am pleased with both the Celestron Ultima 2X barlow and the strategy and therefore I "recommended". Shipping was prompt - much better than prior experiences with amazon.com - improvement so noted.

Inexpensive but great addition for your viewing pleasure
This particular Barlow, along with the Orion Shorty, is highly recommended on several of the astronomy forums on the internet.I got this one instead of the Orion simply because Amazon was offering it at about $52 at the time.

Get it for the binoculars, not the camera
This product is a great idea, but no manufacturer has been able to combine a great camera with the binoculars.The camera always seems to suffer in comparison.
Great binos - dubious camera
I awaited the release of the 3 megapixel model hoping to get some long-range pictures of wildlife on an Alaska trip. The binos are bright and comfortable to use, frankly better than some Nikon's and compact Minolta binos I use.
Quality Product
The binoculars are excellent and the video capability is nicely featured. A blinking green light indicates when recordiong in video mode; video action can be stopped frame by frame; and a memory card allows recording of an entire sporting event.The display zoom feature is useful in single picture mode. Sophisticated electronics yet very easy to use!
This has got to be the easiest to operate serious astronomical telescope out there. I am very impressed by the design improvements made on this compared to other competitive models. The overall look is sleek and looks very sturdy without having a bulky look. I like the way the hand controller is stored on the fork arm as it faces you so that you can see the red lit hand controller without having to move. Very convenient. Also, the oversized clutch knobs to adjust the telescopes direction manually is a very good feature.

Good idea, but poor quality digital pictures.
Unfortunately, what seemed to be such a great combination package turned out to not produce what was promised.Our trip to the Canadian Rockies had some incredible picture opportunities, and seeing the results after returning home was very disappointing.The binocular function was fine, but the only pictures that worked well were those in very bright light.The camera indicated full at 63 pictures, well short of the 160 indicated on the box or the 120 in the description.There was no camera/tv cable as described.Someone will come up with a combination that eguals our separate digital camera and binoculars, but the Celestron is not yet to that point.

Poor Performance !!
This works great indeed if you didn't have a nose. Pics are blurry unless U have VERY bright sunlight, otherwise..dont' take pics. Not what I expected. Great idea but poor performance !!
As binoculars, it focuses fine but the only way it would ever be comfortable to hold to your face is if you had No nose! Handling is very awkward and your nose gets in the way because of the way the camera is positioned in the center of the binoculars. As a camera, it's not!! Your pictures do NOT focus in on what you are seeing through the binoculars. It produces blurry pictures no matter what the distance.It also does not auto-balance the light, your pictures will also have unnatural shadowing unless you are in very bright sunlight. Amazing Binoculars!
I have so many good things to say about these binoculars. First of all, they come with a lifetime no fault warranty. This means if you break them, or if they break themselves, ever, you can get them replaced for free! Even if it your fault! This is amazing!
Waterproof?
I put a floatation strap on these binoculars and placed them in fresh water for perhaps 30 seconds to test for bouyancy. I then packed them for a western trip that included a five day float trip. When I unpacked them one tube was completely obscured with water droplets. Within a half hour in the sun the other tube was fogged beyond use. ... Read more
