5-0 out of 5 stars I like it better and better each time I use it.
I've had my Firstscope 114 Short for almost two years now. I really think I couldn't have chosen a more appropriate one. I live in a house with a backyard and I have a car. Since the telescope doesn't take up much space, I just keep it set up in a corner of my room for the entire winter when I'm not using it. (I live at 64N so stargazing in the summer is off.)
4-0 out of 5 stars good scope...
i took delivery of this scope about a week ago, and though i haven't used it much for astronomical observing, i have had a whale of a time with terrestrial stuff. for the price i paid, it's an excellent VFM product, and i'm looking forward for the skies to clear so that i can really freak out with this telescope, with astrophotography being at the top of my list.3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good scope
This a very portable scope. Its aperture is big enough to show pleasing views of fairly bright deep sky objects. The planets are good, but not as good as a refractor of similar aperture. Its mount is not that shaky. I recommend this scope for anyone starting in astronomy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great !!
It is a really spectacular telescope!!4-0 out of 5 stars If You Can Afford The N8GPS Get It
I bought this scope as a gift for my Mom.She caught the backyard astronomy bug after looking through my Nexstar 11 GPS a few times.I wanted to get her a scope that was easy to use and fairly lightweight, but with more than a 5" appature so that she'd actually be able to see details on deep sky objects as opposed to blurs.4-0 out of 5 stars Great telescope, but get the new one instead.
GPS makes the next generation so much easier to align.Pass on the Nexstar 8 and look at the Nexstar 8i (with GPS add on) or Nexstar 8 GPS. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Celestron GPS
A must-have for your older Celestron scope. It takes all the hassle out of alignment and I find that I observe much more often than before.Unlike an EQ mount, these scopes can take some time to align to north and 2 reference stars. No more guessing or looking up longitude, latitude and exact time.Setup at any dark site now takes less than 2 minutes! Works flawlessly and seamlessly with CdS and ASCOM plugins for computer control and imaging. If you have an older scope without GPS, you gotta have this. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Wide Field Low Power Eyepiece!
The 40mm Axiom offers a wide 70 degree apparent field of view. When this is combined with its long focal length of 40mm it offers about the widest field for telescope of say f/8 focal ratio. This eyepiece is very useful for starfields and open star clusters. With my f/8 120mm refractor I can see all of the Pleides Cluster at once and it is nicely framed. Also, the resolution of this eyepiece is very good. ... Read more

A good set of eyepieces will improve the performance of any telescope, and that's particularly true of entry-level telescopes that often come equipped with economy-grade eyepieces. The Celestron Eyepiece and Filter Kit includes five good-quality multicoated plossl eyepieces and a 2x Barlow lens. The set also includes seven colored glass filters for lunar and planetary viewing, and a nicely padded 10.5-by-12.5-inch case with spare room for three more eyepieces. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars No doubt about it, great deal
After reading every review I could lay by hands on, I finally took the plunged and ordered this fromAmazon. All I can say is, the reviews are not kidding, an amazing deal. The quality of the eyepieces surprised me at this price, I especially like the 32mm eyepiece, great field of view!.The case is solid, and with extra room for more bits as I get them.I haven't tried the filters yet, but even if they do half what they promise, with everything else in the box I am very happy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the begining amateur (PS Im not really a kid)
For the begining astronomer this is a great deal/product. While it may not be the BEST quality is is sufficient for the person who is just starting out. Just for the record im an AMATEUR so i only can compare it to common sense and the EPs the scope came with. But before u fork out the money make sure u need this many eyepieces. thers always the option of a barlow and 1 or 2 other EPs. Heres my take:
5-0 out of 5 stars Celestron eye-piece accessory
I have used all 5 of the eyepieces and the Barlow 2X with my Celestron Nexstar 8" SCT.I am pleased with the variety of eyepieces provided and found the 6mm, 9mm, 15 mm and 32 mm to perform very well. The 4mm has been used less frequently. To have a family of eyepieces to choose from at the price of $119 is a good value. The 2X barlow works very well with 9mm and above eyepieces and also with the 25 mm standard eyepiece.I have not had a chance to really use the filters yet but am confident they will provide enhancements as designed. The same item was found on Hungate's website at $149 and was priced at $199 in the local Hungate store.I purchased at Amazon for $119 and free shipping. The time of order to delivery was about 1 week.I would highly recommend to a beginner that is anxious to have a variety of eyepieces to view the planets.Better quality is available but the kit provides a handy storage and travel case with expansion spaces.I even store my camera's lens adapter there. After all is said, I am glad I bought the kit and consider it a very good value. ... Editorial Review

Celestron likes to say, "the only simple thing about NexStar is its operation," and we have to agree. The sophisticated NexStar 114 GT is quite easy to assemble, even for a complete novice. Once you put the scope together and mount it on the sturdy aluminum tripod (also included), simply take the hand control with illuminated dual 16-character LCD display, and dial in the date, location, and position of north. Using its quiet, high-precision servo motor, the NexStar automatically aligns itself with the night sky.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Nice telescope for a beginner
I bought this telescope about 2 or 3 years ago. I am not disappointed with it. For a decent price, you get a 4.5 inch reflector telescope with 2 eyepieces(10 mm for 100x and 25mm for 40x)and the nexstar tracking system. Set up was easy, and the optics were good. I have seen other reviews say that you can get a 6 or 8 inch dobsonian for the price of this. While this is true, I needed the tracking system, because I live in a light polluted area where "star hopping" just isn't going to work. The tripod is steady and is adjustable. The optics are good and clear.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good and affordable motorized telescope!
I bought the Nestar 114GT as my first telescope and I'm really having a great time!
1-0 out of 5 stars This should read zero stars for their poor customer service
First, let me say that the telescope is OK, it's actually pretty nice for a basic beginners scope. You can see the rings of Saturn fairly well. The drive system is a little shaky, so if you go over a 166X magnification (optional 6mm eyepiece) you need to shut off the tracking to get a good view. But for the money I could live with that. That said, let me tell you about their disappointing customer service. I bought a bunch of Celestron accessories, hard carrying case, a tripod case, a case of eyepieces and filters, and a solar filter to look at the Sun, I spent a little extra money, All Celestron stuff. The second time I used the telescope I hit it on a doorknob and put a little dent in it. Stupid me, it was all my fault. It still works fine, but my poor brand new telescope has a dent in it about the size of a quarter and that sucks. I wanted to fix it, it all disassembles to the bare sheet metal tube in about 10 minutes or so, I tried to work the dent out, but it's still there. I put it all back together, it still works fine. I thought I would order a new tube no problem. WRONG!!!!!.Read more
