Got this for $480.There is no new camcorder on this planet and at this price which can give you better quality.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality, very easy to use.
Love being able to take picture while filming, very rich crisp video and vivid beautiful realistic color.

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Educational and How-To Videos
I purchased the PV-GS300 several months ago and have been using it to create a educational video, and it works great. Images are good and sharp, good color too. The ability to switch between 4:3 and 16:9 ratio is very handy! Still photos at 16:9 are sharp.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Camcorder- Great Value
This is a great camcorder for the price. If you are looking at the Panasonic PV-GS line of camcorders, This is the way they should rate:
4-0 out of 5 stars Great economical 3CCD video camera. Works with OS X.
I have no complaints about this camera. Very happy with my purchase. It does the job and captures great video. And I have had no problem transferring video via Firwire running OS X on my MacBook using Apple's Final Cut Express HD software.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth all the time I spent researching it!
I just got my Panasonic PV-GS500 camcorder/digital camera on Friday.I have not had a lot of time to completely try out all its features (which probably has more than I will ever use for either personal or business reasons), but I already love it.One review states that it is over 3 pounds. This is only true if you include all the accessories that come with it.Normal operation (a lens cap, hand strap, tape, SD card, and battery), along with the camera/camcorder, put this unit at just under 1.4 pounds, which is certainly NOT heavy. Also, Amazon does a disservice to potential customers when it lists "What's in the box?" on this page.More than the three items mentioned comes with this camcorder. In fact, everything that the company packages with this camcorder comes with it.To see which accessories are included, you can go to Panasonic's website, click on this product, and view its product manual. The included accessories are listed near Page 12, I believe. You get things like cables, batteries, remotes, a manual, software, etc.I have never written a review before, but these two things compelled me to do so.I love this camera, and Amazon is reputable and offers a great price on it.I did a lot of research on all camcorder/camera combos, and this one won out in my opinion. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Light Camera
I bought the GS180 prior to my trip to China. I also bought a 4 hour after-market battery; I've since bought another one. That's what you'll need if you are touring all day and using the LCD screen all of the time. With the battery, the viewfinder becomes just about useless since it doesn't tilt up.
5-0 out of 5 stars limited accessories
Great camera . . . one of the few lower priced cams to keep the mic jack and the headphone jack, but beware . .. . this camera does NOT come with a lens cap, and NO remote control.other sources state that this camera does NOT have a Leica lens. This camera does NOT have A/V input. No flash, no hot accessory shoe (though it has one which has no power). No widescreen LCD.It does record in widescreen but no image stabilization in widescreen.

5-0 out of 5 stars off to a great start
This is my first camcorder, so I don't have much to compare it to, but I've enjoyed it so far. It's easy to use. The picture quality seems high. The only minor problem I've found is with the headphone input.Had to try three different sets of headphones before I could find one that would fit into the narrow slot where the headphone jack is. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Camera for the Professional Investigator
To my knowlege, there simply isn't a better equipped camera for the professional investigator. It's IR-sensitive mode (nightshot) is in B&W (rather than cheeseygreen), far superior quality-wise to anything Sony's got, and it's the only 3CCD that I know of with a low-light mode. The image stabilization is exceptional and the image quality is production grade.Time/Date stamps can be "burned in" so they xfer via firewire - again, the only camera I'm aware of with this feature. The audio can be turned off which we know is a must. And best yet, you can disable the sleepmode so it won't turn off eliminating missed money shots waiting for the camera to cycle back on.It's built like a tank and feels substantial in the hand, but it's still lightweight thanks to an alloy frame. Finally, it's totally silent even with the tape transport in full swing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Spectacular Video Quality!
I'm by no means an expert, but I really wanted a reasonably priced video camera that could produce the highest quality picture for the price.I did a TON of research and landed on the AG-DVC30 after much agonizing over "to HD or not HD" as well as brands and features.Based on all the reviews I read, this camera seemed to offer the most features and the best video for the money.I have not been disappointed. On my first outing, I took the cam to the Grand Canyon and Sedona.Wow!What incredible color and clarity!I also really love the 16x zoom. It's smooth and powerful.I got great shots of the Colorado River from the rim of the Grand Canyon.I'll agree with all reviewers that the audio is not great. It is not super sensitive so you lose sound if not quite close to the subject. If you're interested in good audio, I'd suggest an optional mic.If you just want great video, awesome color, and ease of use, this is your camera. At the price (plus the rebate) you really can't beat it.

4-0 out of 5 stars excellent product for the price!
A camcorder with features found only on more expensive models and resonably easy to operate by a beginner. The quality of the picture was very good and the zoom operated very smoothly. Overall I felt it was a product that waswell thought out in design and well made. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great DVD Camcorder
I reviewed many DVD camcorders over a 4-5 month period and feel this was the best choice. I almost purchased the Sony DVD405, but color was one of the first priorities on my list of wants with this new camcorder. Although the Sony has a better chip, the fact is that the Panasonic, with 3 chips, according to many reviews I had read had better color. The ease of use is nice also. Finalizing DVD's takes only a few minutes and not really a big deal, my only issue so far is the fade control which requires the operator to select it via the joystick control each time you want to use it. Selecting this control while recording requires a steady hand so that the camera does not shake. None the less, it puts my eleven year old, 8mm camcorder to shame. Love taking videos again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Help getting it onto your computer
I was completely floored by what it took to get the g-d clips onto the computer, too. It took some careful reading and searching around the web, but now I can do it. (It still is not particularly convenient.) I am on an iMac G5.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great camcorder -- just watch out for slow start-up times
This is my first DVD camcorder and I absolutely love it!It's also my first 3-chip video camcorder. The image quality is just really good, like the other guys said. The machine is also apiece of cake to use.I e-mailed "gadgester" and he recommended TDK 8.cm dvd-r blanks from amazon, so I bought them and now I just pop one in and go!No formatting needed.Finalization in the camcorder is needed to make the dvd-r compatable with my Sony dvd player at home as well as my Thinkpad.

1-0 out of 5 stars Died after 3 months!
This was my second camcorder- after a Canon that lasted 2 years but developed motor noise. This Panasonic literally suddenly died after only 3 MONTHS ( well, 3 months and a week- thereby a week too late for the warranty and a "too bad, so sad" response from panasonic!). I had used it to film a wedding- it had terrible indoor quality and poor sound quality and obviously had a short pathetic lifespan. Do not buy this camera!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good basic camcorder
This is Panasonic's entry-level camcorder, but it's packed with useful features, like good image quality, 12 lux sensitivity, and a whopping 30x optical zoom.I think it's perfect for casual travel videography as well as for shooting entries to the "America's Funniest Video" show. It's fairly easy to use and the build quality is solid.

2-0 out of 5 stars Finished DVDs will NOT play in most DVD players
One word of advice in buying - Don't
5-0 out of 5 stars Good camera for the money
We purchased the Panasonic VDR-D100 as our first video camera after the birth of our daughter. We wanted the ability to record directly to DVD, playback on our DVD player and be able to edit on our computer. Just as the last reviewer stated; getting the DVD-RW discs to recognize on our computer was the main problem. We wanted to be able to do this so we could do the simple editing functions like dividing and combining on the camera, but then embellish a little with transition shots and cleaning up the video on our computer. We also wanted to upload the video through YouTube online to our blog.
4-0 out of 5 stars From camera to DVD is great and serves its purpose for the price
I did a lot of research before buying this camera. We could have bought a higher quality digital camcorder for less or higher quality MiniDV camcorder for the same price. What led to our final decision to purchase this camcorder was the fact we could record straight to a 8cm DVD-R, finalize the disc on the camcorder, and play it directly on our DVD player or DVD-ROM player on our computer. We didn't want to deal with sticking cables and wires into the TV, electrical outlet, and camera to playback footage. And we also didn't want to deal with the cost and trouble of transferring footage onto DVDs to keep in our video library for the future.

3-0 out of 5 stars nice cam, but difficulties with pc
I really like this camera as far as it being small, lightweight, easy to hold with my small hands, the overall design of it, etc. But when I tried to hook it up to my pc, I ran into many problems. a) the camera doesn't come with necessary software or cables for using it with the pc. I had to purchase the cables seperately. b) I downloaded the driver from the panasonic website, which the manual instructed me to do, and the installer gave me an error and would not install it (I have winXP). I tried emailing them to get help, and after I went through all the time to fill everything out on their webpage form, the message would not send. Nice little camera - but too many frustrations. I'm probably going to return it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Died after eight weeks
What a piece of junk. The display - both in-camera and on-TV - includes thick blue horizontal lines that obviously ruin the video feed. This occurred 50 days after the item was shipped, so we can't return it to Amazon and now have to lose time trying to see what the manufacturer will do. Disappointing experience all the way around.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good starter camcorder with poweful zoom
I was looking for a relative inexpensive camera gift for a graduating senior. While looking in a local store this Panasonic PV-GS39 camcorder caught my attention. It's got a clean, attractive styling, compact size, and the video quality looked good on a nearby TV to which it was hooked up.I've had positive experiences with Panasonic camcorders in the past -- in fact my current workhorse camcorder is the beloved VDR-D300 3CCD DVD model (see my review on Amazon). The GS39 also seems to be user-friendly, and the salesman confirmed to me that it's got better video quality than some of the more expensive models out there. The 30x optical zoom with image stabilization technology would be a boon to the gift recipient who's about to embark on a yearlong world "study" tour.(Of course, we all know what young people do on such tours.)Finally, the price was definitely perfect as a graduation gift, so I bought it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not happy
The Camcorder which I bought, has been displayed as it include a remote comtrol, and when I received the product I found that it is optional (Which is mentioned in the Manual!! which I cannot read untill I open the BOX!!). when I followedup with all, I got refund of 32$ not the missing part.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good, BUT, could be better indoor video and have more jacks.
The GOOD: digital audio 16-bit sound is great; 'zoom' sound level increase works well; love the joystick controls; manual adjustments are good. Outdoor video is good. Tiny battery. Very very lightweight. 30x zoom rocks - WHEN you use a TRIPOD!
4-0 out of 5 stars (Not actually under 13, just didn't want to register.) Overall, I like the camcorder.
I just bought the 59 about a week ago, and I'm pretty happy with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product
Great product! Great image and zoom. Captures color very well. Sound is good. Very compact. Good battery life. Still picture quality is ok. Definately recommend this product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Starter Video Camera
I really wanted a 3CCD model, but since I'm just starting out and need to buy other stuff, like a tripod, monopod, media, firewire adapter card, camera bag, etc. This fits the budget nicely and it is compact enough to carry it anywhere. Yes the USB connection does work, yes FireWire does work, although it took me a minute to figure out that a connection problem was the fault of the video software version I was using, not the fault of the camera.

4-0 out of 5 stars It does work with your PC!
My son bought this camera on his own this past summer to take videos of his friends skateboarding, etc.His desire was to get video editing software to add sound effects, music, titles, etc.The camera works great and does what is advertised.Always keep in perspective that a $300 something camera will not match up with the features and extras that a $1000 something camera offers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera, Newest technology in the market
i like this camcorder because of 2 options that no other camcorder has.
2-0 out of 5 stars Only good for outdoor recording
This camcorder is only good for outdoor recording. In indoor recording or recording in little bit low light, picture quality is very bad. I tried to record in my living room where I have two 100 watt bulbs but recorded picture was very blurred. In outdoor recording in a sunny day, picture quality is quite good with sharp colors. Zoom works well. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice camera
Like the other review said, this is a good starter camera. After being out of the video business for about 5 years I decided to by this camera for a wedding I was shooting. I got it at a great price. There are a few problems though. It's a little hard to deal with in low light. I have a mounted 150-watt light and it still hard to deal with. If you gain up one it's kind of grainy. But if you are not doing anything that is broadcast quality then this is a good camera. Since I'm doing low budget wedding this is perfect for me.

4-0 out of 5 stars good pro beginers camera
This is a great starter camera if you are thinking about getting into videograghy. This camera will give you the pro look, but it seems to be just a consumer level camera in a pro package. quality seems to be very good however, I have only shot a few hrs of tape so far. if you can come up with an extra $1000 seriously consider a different camera that really is on the pro level.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE camera to shoot your 1st feature; look no further
I shot my second feature (Flying Tiger) on the DVX and took it to the Cannes Film Fest market and no one could tell it wasn't film. This camera is fantastic if you shoot right.I suggest this camera over all the other similarly-priced models. We have done extensive testing with many cameras and this is my favorite. The JVC is many thousands more and you get less grain with it in dark areas, true, but for the money, the DVX, if you shoot properly with it, will get you amazing results.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best in Class
The DVX 100b is cheaper than the XL2 but you get more features. Aside from the compact and built in XLR ports, you get an optional flip out view finder which the XL2 doesn't offer. If you are looking for a non HD camera i would suggest going with a camera that has an optional 24p because you'll be getting your money's worth and it is a awesome feature to have...

4-0 out of 5 stars Great camera and image quality
Lit and shot properly, the footage from this camera in 24P mode can come very close to 16mm film. This is a fantastic camera for the price, and this new B model has worked out a lot of the kinks from the earlier models. For those of you looking at the XL2, it's true this camera does not have an interchangeable lens (although wide-angle and telephoto adapters are available) but the camera feels more compact and robust, with more features (like XLR) built right into the camera body vs. external attachments. ... Editorial Review

As the follow-up to the SDR-S100, the Panasonic SDR-S150 builds on the success of its predecessor. Not only can you record MPEG2 video straight to an SD card (2GB card included), but the 3CCD image sensor and optical image stabilization work to ensure that your images look their best. The S150 also uses Panasonic's proprietary Quad-Density Pixel Distribution technology to convert the image signal. Providing four times the pixel density when recording still pictures, this lets the S150 capture 3.1-megapixel (2048 x 1512) still pictures. Plus, 1.5-second quick start and a wide, 2.8-inch LCD monitor make it easy to operate. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice gadget - horrible software support.
The unit itself is well designed. The quality of video is fair, at least for such a compact unit. Photos are near worthless due to horrible quality. My cell phone has far superior images.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Multi-Tasking Product
The Panasonic D-snap, model SV-AV50, is a great product. The D-snap can be used for many different tasks. It is a digital camera, camcorder, mp3 player, and voice recorder. The D-snap is small and portable. The D-snap is so small that it can fit into your pocket easily. The Panasonic D-snap is easy to recharge the batteries.
1-0 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor ('Buyer Beware')
This camera is a piece of crap.

1-0 out of 5 stars VERY DISAPPOINTED
I bought this as a gift to my husband before he was deployed to iraq so that we could take dvd's of the children for him to watch. The manual is useless. It is very vague and difficult to follow in most areas. Using the camcorder was easy but when we went to use it with the PC we had all kinds of trouble. The usb cable is really nonfunctional. Panasonic reccomends that you back up your discs to pc...we couldnt even get the hardware to work right on our pc (the tower is brand new) and after calling tech support for help..well..he gave up too and we lost all of the video in the process. (so my husband went to Iraq with just pictures and a major let down.)Then we couldnt uninstall the hardware that was installed improperly and tech support could not help.I am so disappointed with this product that I am returning it to the store where i bought it and trying a different brand.
4-0 out of 5 stars Works great for me
I've had this camera for a few weeks now and have filmed over 10 hours without any problem.I film a lot of kid's sports (football, sailing, etc.) and the picture quality is excellent.I went with the Panasonic over the Sony because of the 18x optical zoom and I just don't think that the Sony name is not what it used to be.The last two Sony products I've bought had problems (computer is a piece of junk and the camcorder's viewfinder stopped working after a year).
1-0 out of 5 stars Better off with tape
Great idea but in practice this camera doesn't live up to expectations. The DVA-RAM re-recordable media is fairly esoteric, expensive and not compatible with most DVD readers. The other recoding media;DVD-R,has a hitch - after you record your 30 minutes of video, the disc needs to be "finalized" before it can be replayed in a DVD player. This takes at least 7minutes.You can't use the camera during this time and it must be plugged into its AC adapter. If "finalization" fails, you've lost all of your video on that DVD and it can't be recovered.Just happened to me so I thought I'd share the experience with others. At present, miniDV tape seems like a safer and more reliable option. This particular camera would only be useful to people who already own a device that can read 8cm DVD-RAM discs and copy them to other media. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good one for good price
I liked it and it is working fine.
2-0 out of 5 stars Low-light shooting disappoints once again
I bought this camera for its great price, good reviews, and overall reputation as a great camcorder for the novice shooter. I returned the camera after three weeks, however, due to abysmal low light performance among other things.
