5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for the price and the capabilities
We live at the edge of a bay and do a fair amount of bird and boat watching. We've been using the binoculars for five months now and find them GREAT for that purpose. We use them constantly and the IS feature takes the annoying flutter away.We would like to get another pair for the car. Can't recommend them highly enough.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great!
These binoculars work great! The image stabilization works like a charm, and the optical quality is very sharp and clear. My only beefs are that 1) there are no lens caps for the rear lenses - this seems absurd to me, and 2) the IS button is very small and centered, so you have to hold the binocs a certain way with both hands in order to press the button.Seems that it should have had a much larger button or buttons on the sides.

5-0 out of 5 stars stable view makes binocs worth using
I go to an occasional football or other sports game, and would like to get closer to the action.Or I'd like to look at the stars, or at a bird in a tree, or to see what that stick is that is resting on my roof, or whatever. The image stabilizing thing is great. It's not a marketing hype, something that sounds nice but is so-so when using. The I/S feature really is great--it removes all the hand-holding shaking from the view, and keeps things really really focused on what you are looking at.You can get some drift, which means the thing you are looking at can gradually move out of the field of vision, cuz of your hands/arms are gradually moving away from it.But you can get it right back in.I think how this thing works is that when you click the I/S button (on top of the binocs, easy to find), there is a built-in feed back that takes part of the image and keeps it at the same spot no matter what slight movements you make--thus compensating for your shakes that no one can avoid, by slightly moving some of the prisms inside to keep the image the same, regardless of your small movements in holding the binocs. With the image kept at the same spot, your eyes can pick up more of it, see more detail (examples--moon, planets, stars)because your eye isn't chasing the image around as the binocs inevitably move around. It's not cheap to get this feature in the binocs, but these are my favorite for college football, seeing the stars, and so on.I also have their big brother, the 15x50, but those are heavier. When you press the stabilize button, you can feel a slight clunk in the unit (this is a good feature, cuz you can feel/hear it's turned on, sorta like feedback from a keyboard when you press a key, not a problem) and it does its magic. For a football game, take along extra batteries cuz you'll use the I/S button a lot, and you'll get mad if it runs out of power (due to prior use, etc.)--because you will have seen (no pun intended) how much you like the I/S feature!BTW, in a football game, you will get set on the quarterback or whoever else you are following, then click on the turn-on-I/S button, follow the play for 10 seconds, then let off the button saving the batteries. Then repeat half a minute or so later, etc.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good binocular for light use
I bought these binoculars because I was just a bit frustrated with using regular binoculars. I already have a set of weatherproof Minolta binocs that cost about $200, but wasn't finding it useful because the effort required to hold it steady enough to see detail just made it fatiguing to use for any length of time
4-0 out of 5 stars nice, but not that amazing
I couldn't help myself buying these after reading the reviews (all magnifications). I got it for $170 A/R.
5-0 out of 5 stars best bang for the buck in Image Stabilization Binoculars
I just received my Canon 8x25 IS binoculars and they are just as sharp, bright and contrasty as my Pentax DCF WP 8x42 binoculars but show more detail when using image stabilization. They weigh only 16 oz so they are perfect for hanging from your neck for extended birding, sightseeing etc. You will not find better optics in their price range that includes a $50 Canon rebate until July 15. I also have the Canon 10x42L IS WP and 12x36 IS II binoculars but they are much larger and can get heavy when hanging from your neck for extended periods. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Overrated
The reviews must have been written by Cannon representatives. The stabilizer works on land. However, do not buy these if you expect to use them on a boat, that is not in dock, and expect significant stabilization.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just as I expected...
the earlier reviews for this item were dead-on - optics are great, the binoculars themselves are a little heavy, but not so much that they are cumbersome, and the lens caps are flimsy and more than a little disappointing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding.Amazing.Terrific.Any questions?
I've had these binocs (Canon 15x50 IS) for two weeks now and am regretting my purchase . . . . regretting that I didn't buy them years ago, that is!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great but has some design flaws costing another $350 in repair
Right out of the box, these binoculars, no doubt are one of the best pair of optics I have ever purchased. The Image Stabilization feature is what makes the bincoluars so attractive...and expensive.
5-0 out of 5 stars great binoculars for looking up at night
As a novice astronomer I really enjoy the sharp, steady view with these binoculars. The view is fairly steady even with the I.S. off - depending how stable you are of course. My binoculars cost more than my telescope !! And my telescope is a decent one too. But I think they are worth it. You see so much more in the night sky than what the naked eye can see - by far. They are of course great during the day too. Their weight is not much of an issue for me, although each person is different depending on their viewing habits. I think a hard carry case would have been the best but it's not a big deal for my use. I recommend this pair of binoculars to anyone who is serious about great quality and performance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Holy gazookas!
I bought these for an upcoming alaskan cruise and boy and I glad I did. We had some other 10x25 binocs that I used for years and wanted an upgrade to something more substantial. These are amazing! They are so clear and the stabilization is the most impressing aspect of them. I have used them at least once a day since buying them for bird watching, astronomy (the moon looks amazing) and for watching a new housing development go in about 3 miles away. My parents are considering getting a pair for the cruise too, I plan to share but I don't think I'll want to be without these for long. Wonderful product that I plan to use for years to come. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Almost too large to take to the opera.
Though a little larger than is sometimes convenient, the quality of the image makes these binoculars worth carrying.
5-0 out of 5 stars The most detail you will see from a handheld 12x binocular.
I purchased the Canon 12x36 IS II's a year ago and they still work with the original batteries. At 23 oz they are not as heavy as my Canon 10x42L IS WP's and can hang from my neck much longer without feeling heavy. They have a sharp 60 AFOV and are the only 12x binoculars I would want to take for birding or any other outdoor use. They are not waterproof so when I want a waterproof IS binocular I just grab my 10x42L IS WP's. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love 'em!
Great low - light viewing.I'm getting these for the boat, and their smaller size is a plus. They're about 3/4 size.Kids can handle them well.A bit heavier than I expected, but solid.I highly recommend them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ranger Platiunum NOT made by Celestron
The above review is actually ABSOLUTELY INCORRECT!Ranger Platiunum Class binoculars are NOT made by Celestron. They are made by Eagle Optics independently.Call them and ask! :-)

4-0 out of 5 stars Best waterproof binocular in price range
These are a great value with good eye relief (18 mm, important for use with glasses), easy to hold and focus, good sized exit pupil (8/32 = 4 mm), wide field of view (395'), and not too heavy (26 oz.)A large exit pupil is important on a moving boat; it's easier to keep the image in view. They appear to be rugged; I and several other people used several pairs of these for several years, and none of them went out of alignment.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Binos. for Specific Situations
These binos. may look like a toy, but rest assured the optics and construction build are fantastic! However, keep in mind that they are best for specific situations such as viewing the opera from the balcony seats.I would not recommend these for serious outdoor nature or bird watching, they simply are not powerful enough.Similarly, I would not recommend these for outdoor sports viewing (e.g. football or soccer) as the field of vision is too narrow. For all other concert/theatre events they are great!Keep in mind that there is no neck strap, but rather a hand strap. The binos. are light enough to render this a minor impediment. Also, I noticed that the focus "sweet spot" is extremely tight...no room for error.I wear eyeglass, and these binos. were very comfortable with the eyeglasss left on.If anyone wants great outdoor/sports binos., check out the Canon IS 10x30s.Those binos. cost a lot more, but are "5 star" and beyond. The 7x17s are lighter and more compact, and will be more than adequate for the viewing situations I described. Another fine offering from a high quality manufacturer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Just the right size!
I own several pairs of binoculars and these are my favorite! They are small as noted by several of the other reviewers, but there really isn't any reason why this should be an issue. The optics are great that the adjustments are easy. These have a permanent place in my daypack and get used several times each week.

4-0 out of 5 stars theatre glasses
I bought these for the theatre and they work well for me.They might alsobe good for sporting events. The small size is a plus. Two things aboutthem are bad:The strap is not long enough to go around your neck which isthe natural resting place for binoculars.(This can be corrected by buyinga new strap.)Also, the glasses are center focus with no provision forindividual focus. This means that if you are near sighted with differentprescriptions for each eye the glasses can never be properly focused. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, the distance between your eyes is adjustable.
I can't imagine what the reviewer who couldn't make the adjustment for the distance between his eyes was thinking, but these, like all Canons (and all binocs I've ever used) are certainly adjustable. You merely "bend" the two barrels in towards you to bring them (and thus the eyepieces) closer together, or away from you to move them further apart.
3-0 out of 5 stars Canon IS 12x36 binoculars
While I agree that the binoculars can be adjusted to fit different individuals the range of adjustment is too small and will NOT accomodate some women and alsmost all children.

5-0 out of 5 stars We haven't found anything better.....
I have about 20 sets of 10X30 IS and three sets of 15X50 IS Canon binoculars and have ordered two of these. My officers rely on these to enforce game and fish laws in Minnesota and use them in very demanding weather. We have had few failures, only a couple of repairs(due to dropping and running a set over with a boat trailer). They make the difference between being able to tell that a guy shot a duck or being able to tell what kind of duck he shot. For the money there is nothing better when detail if important. ...
