4-0 out of 5 stars Good combination of picture quality and reliability
When the APS system began, we purchased the Canon 370Zand it still works after several repairs. My wife is a principal and needed a small camera to fit in her purse and I needed a camera to fit in my pocket on trips. The Canon LT260 was purchased for $100 and has lasted in very heavy use for over four years without repairs. The quality of picture, strength of the flash, the 2X zoom and the ruggedness would be hard to match for the price. However, this great camera which has traveled the world and taken an average of 24-48 pictures a week finally died.Although my wife has an excellent digital camera, she wants another LT260!

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Picture Quality
I bought this camera last summer to replace an old Olympus APS camera that I'd had stolen. I went with this Canon APS because I had always been very happy with the APS picture quality, ease of picture taking and because I've liked the quality of Canon products in general in the past. This camera has been nothing but a disappointment. My pictures are grainy; the colors are washed out; the world through the shutter of this camera is drab, dull and blurry. I've tried everything from adjusting the film speed I'm using to switching who I use as a developer...The results are always the same when I get my prints back. Do not make the same mistake I did and waste your money on this camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Canon Elph 260LT
I would suggest this camera to anyone who wants a reasonable camera that takes wonderful pictures.I got this camera as a gift a few years ago, and have yet to take a picture that does not turn out perfect.(I do however suggest always using 400 speed film.)I have bought a few of this camera for gifts, and plan do buy more for this Christmas season.I have also talked other friends and relatives into buying this for their use! This is a great camera for a great value! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome camera for the price
Like a lot of the other reviewers have said, this camera takes great pictures!Clear and crisp! And I'm the kinda person that takes pictures hanging out the car window and on the back of a 4 wheeler. It's as if I was standing still! It's so nice to be able to capture a panoramic picture whenever you want, and be able to switch back to regular sized photos with the touch of a button. And all on the same roll of film.So easy.I would highly recommend this camera! And with such a low price, you cant go wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best!
Even for people on a low budget this season, this is a great, fun, easy-to-use gift. I have owned one of these for almost 2 years now, and have found many ways to get exactly the picture I want. With three photo sizes that change in the viewer, one is always guaranteed to know approximately how thier photo will turn out. Though not particularly inexpenxive, the APS film system is reasonable, and the pictures turn out great! For a younger, or older, aspiring photographer, this is the camera to start with!

5-0 out of 5 stars great camera
i bought this camera right before a trip, and was a little nervous using a new camera. i was not disappointed, every picture came out crisp and clear. the size is great, so small you can easily put it in your pocket. the different settings are good too, especially the panoramic. film, batteries and developing may be a wee bit more, but it is definitely worth it. i've owned more expensive cameras that did not take pictures this well. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Canon Elph Z3 Zoom APS Cambera Kit
I love this camera because it offers three different picture sizes and has the zoom lense. It is the second one I have owned. The only problem I have with it is putting in the date. A friend always has to do this for me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera
People dont realize its not just the camera that takes good pictures, but how the person uses the camera.I bought this camera in 2002 and i still have it. It takes great pictures. I took pictures of weddings and parties and the picture came out great. People loved the pictures. Cameras do break so you do have to be careful how you load the film. The only bad thing about the camera is you have to push the button down for a second, then release it and it takes a moment to take the picture so this camera is not good when taking pictures of small children. APS film does have a disadvantage versus the 35 mm on the quality of the picture when you enlarge, but the advantage is you can get 3 different sizes which is good when you what to get a scene. Its very compact and it comes with a case.

2-0 out of 5 stars it's alright
I have had this camera for a few months now and while taking pictures it all of a sudden, it froze on me and now it is useless. I probably will have to pay more for fixing it than it is worth. I would definitely invest in a different camera. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera, poor pic quality w/ Kodak film
I've switched over to a Canon digi-cam, but I used the Elph 2 for a couple of years.During those years, pictures taken on on the Elph 2, just never turned out right. They were either grainy, suffered from color saturation, red-eye, you name it.That is until I discovered the magic of Fuji film.I had up until that time used Kodak Avantix APS film exclusively, believing that paying more meant better quality.Wrong!Fuji film is not only much cheaper, but my prints were awesome in every way possible. In fact, my last set of photos were taken on the streets of Las Vegas during the late-night hours, plus lots of indoor pictures in a dimly lit room with the shades drawn...but every picture turned out, if you will, picture perfect.I can't bash Kodak, because it's the only film I've ever used, and bottom line, it's the best. But when it comes to the Canon Elph 2, you should switch to Fuji film.I guarantee, you'll see the difference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Point and Shoot on Market
I bought this camera 3 1/2 years ago to take with me when I moved to Germany. It's small enough to fit in your jeans pocket, but makes cleaner and better quality prints than I've seen in a point and shoot camera. It was very durable and lasted several years of use overseas, and I'm still enjoying its compact size and light weight here in the states. If you are in any way intimidated by the digital camera age, and would like a small, versatile APS camera, this is it!

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a GREAT Little Camera!
I have owned this camera for about 3 years, and am still surprised in the quality of photographs I get from it! We recently returned from Maui, where a photo can make or break a beautiful memory. Most, if not all, of our photos from this trip are frameable, they are SO beautifully crisp and clear! It does a great job in any of the three modes it offers. The film loads and unloads easier than any camera I've ever operated, and the flash is automatic, so you don't even have to think about it.Read more

Small camera, very slimlined and easy to carry.I purchased refurbished and everything is working perfectly. I only wish the zoom was a little stronger, but overall an excellent camera.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great camera but beware of the "H"!
I bought this camera a little over 3 years ago when I was expecting my first baby.As you can imagine, I have taken a bunch of photos since then. This camera is easy to use and takes beautiful photographs.
4-0 out of 5 stars This camera is well worth repairing
I bought the Canon Elph 370Z in 2000. After 3 years of heavy use the camera had to go in for servicing last summer because an error message (H) had appeared in the LED.The cost for repairs was about 1/3 of the original price.Several months later the same thing reoccurred and Canon fixed it free of charge. This is the first camera that I've ever had repaired. All my previous cameras have also eventually broke down from use. But this is the only one that I liked enough to have fixed.Photo quality is excellent considering the size of the camera, plus the convenience of APS. The quality of the camera is very good, too. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Too much hype over this camera
Alot of my photos taken at night are grainy or blurry. This camera is ok, not worth all the hype it's getting. Not to mention developing doubles will cost you about $15 per roll. I would stick with digital or 35mm over this.

3-0 out of 5 stars not bad
I have owned this camera for about six months now, and overall I like the compact design, the variety of features it offers and the pretty decent zoom. If you also have a Canon EOS, slow your trigger finger, since the autofocus of the elph is not quite as snappy as the one on your high performance SLR. The flash is very limited in range, so this is ideal for indoor shots at smaller parties, but not at bigger events where you want to cover some distance. Twice I have had problems with fresh APS film involuntarily rewinding and popping out of the camera as used even though only one picture had been taken, but that may have been an issue with the film rather than with the camera. The zoom and autofocus use up quite a bit of battery juice, and the power will go pretty much without warning, so if you travel, have extras handy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great replacement camera
I have a 10 year old Minolta 35-mm camera that I've just about beaten up.So, I borrowed this camera from my sister for my trip to Europe last month. The color and B&W pictures came out great.I especially loved the panoramic feature for those broad Italian landscapes and the great outside shots of Versailles and the Louvre! The only time the pictures didn't come out nice ... and this is my only complaint ... was when I was taking shots in a dark church or taking night shots.More often than not, those pictures came out blurry or grainy.Maybe if I used different film (I only used 400 speed while I was in Europe), or held my hand steadier it wouldn't have been a problem -- I'll have to play around with it a little.Otherwise, it is a great camera!Perfect for traveling -- light, compact, and inconspicuous. In fact, I plan on buying one for myself before my next trip abroad! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera if you can still find one!
I received this camerera as a prize and would recommend it to anyone. We use this camera as our primary camera for everything!I took it in with me when my daughter was born, snorkeling, fishing, hiking and I have now handed it to my now toddler. If you have had a toddler, they can break anything with the exception of this ELPH SPORT.I have had this camera for 4 years and have nothing but good things to say!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good camera, good value.
My camera has really stood up to the elements and multiple beatings. It has worked well for me taking pictures underwater and in the surf, and has also been to the top of multiple 20,000+ feet mountains.Dropped countless times on rock, snow, sand, and also dunked as much into water.I have learned to force the flash on anything but super sunny days - the pics come out a bit dark in conditions other cameras would have no problem with, and i've found it could really use a filter in intense light situations.Nothing you wouldn't expect from a specialty use camera.Just bought a second spare one for when the first one finally does give up - which i don't think will be for a long time.5-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Combination of Features and Quality
If you are considering buying an APS camera, then you should look no further. Note, however, that APS film is a bit more expensive than regular 35mm film, but it is much more versatile (standard Normal, Group, and Panoramic modes, etc). The reason why this camera so great is most obviously its design. The case is waterproof as well as shockproof. After taking it with me hiking, I tripped three times, each time with the camera in my hand (in its little case), and showed no signs of damage, and still worked great underwater. For me, this is great, as I usually end up losing things in my messy room, and hence they usually get banged around. This camera is durable, and therefore there is no worry. Its waterproofing is great feature, as I am constantly taking pictures on my boat, at the beach, or outside where there is always the chance of rain. You don't have to worry about keeping your camera dry, nor does it become a problem if you leave you bag with the camera in it someplace where it might accidentally get wet. The design is extremely easy to use, and the pictures are great (use 400 speed film, its the most versatile). The only bad thing is that you have to fairly responsible about cleaning the camera after salt-water use. Now, I have never done this, and the camera still works fine. Furthermore, this thing is tiny, suprisingly smaller than the most compact 35mm's. You'll be suprised at how small it is (it's not too small though). It also has bumps on the back to help you grip the camera with one hand. To anyone who is concerned about zoom, on most compact camera, APS or 35mm, they barely make that much of a difference. And to anyone considering going digital, I say just get a scanner. Your picture quality will be much better. Recommended without reservation. Its the kind of camera you can just throw in your bag and never have to worry about. One last thing, when you first put it underwater, you will see bubbles coming out. I was concerned, but found out it was just air on the outside of the waterproofing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little camera
I got this camera in 1998 at a flea market for $30, the guy said he never put a battery in it, so he didnt' even know if it worked, so I was possibly buying a camera that didn't even work.I decided to try it.1-0 out of 5 stars Mine Broke!
After 18 months of treating this camera like gold and being reasonably satisfied with the quality of the images (as long as they weren't enlarged), one day it just stopped working with the lens partially extended, frozen in place. All the repair shops want $100 to fix it. For $100 I could buy a new one. It was cute while it lasted, but I've bought a Yashica T4 (the original - not the awful zoom remake with the same name) instead. It's not nearly as small, but this elph is just too fragile.

3-0 out of 5 stars LOVED it! -- while it lasted...
I received my Elph as a gift in 1999.Shortly afterward I took it on vacation. It was so easy to use; I could switch film while riding a bike!I got just about to the end of the third roll of film when the "dreaded H" reared its ugly head.Following the manual's advice, I took out the battery, replaced it, and... it rewound/exposed the whole roll.Since it was under warranty, we took it to the camera shop to have it repaired. The owner told us he got this problem with Elphs a lot, and if we had this problem again, we'd be better off purchasing a new, different camera than paying to have it fixed.5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera - It Has Changed My Life!!
I received this camera as a gift and it is just fantastic!I have experienced the dreaded 'H' problem twice, but only during the first couple of times I changed a roll of film. I did not lose any pictures, and it has not happenend since. 5-0 out of 5 stars It's a good camera.
It's three and a half inches wide and one inch deep.It has no shutter speed at all. The flash will break easy. Ours broke when it wouldn`t come out and we pulled to hard and it broke and all that it does is stays open no matter what. At some stores it it comes with a camera strap. It takes really good photos too. The zoom lens go as far as 24-48mm. When you press the silver button two lights go on right by the view finder witch are colored orange and green. A good thing is that you get to choose if you want to put the titel or the date on the photo. Its a good camera buy it! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars hey, it's much better than it has a right to be
I bought the entry level elph camera something like 4 years ago. It's simple, direct and has only one lense setting. But over those years, this little camera has taken great shots. It makes everything look far away, as the lennse is almost wide angle. So for scenery, you get the entire view. However, for taking pictures of people, it is great at a close distance, as it opens fast and shoots faster. You can often "catch the moment" in a way that a 35 mm won't - especially as people see it coming. This camera, you just pull out of your pocket or fanny pack and snap a pix. It also has a pretty good and quick exposure caibration system, as the photos tend to be exposed just about right. So, for $45 it can't beat.

Editorial Review

This remarkably small 4x zoom Advanced Photo System camera is the first of its size to offer a high-performance lens with a wide zoom ratio. The Elph 490Z conceals its 22.5-90mm 4x zoom lens behind a swing-open cover and retains the "box and circle" construction of the original Elph, making it compact and nearly flat with the lift-up lens cover closed. The Elph 490Z is 40 percent smaller in volume and 20 percent lighter than the Sure Shot Z135, the most similar previous Canon model in terms of zoom ratio. It fits in almost any shirt pocket and weighs less than 11 ounces. Despite the Canon Elph 490Z's diminutive stature, its aluminum body feels sturdy.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this Camera!
I bought the Canon Elph 490Z to use on my trip to Europe. While abroad, this camera was incredible. The Canon Elph 490Z is very tiny and lightweight (about 11 oz.), so I didn't hesitate about carrying this cameraeverywhere I traveled. Also, the camera's aluminum body handled very wellduring the trip; there were no breakage or scratches.Furthermore, thefeatures of this camera were great. The 4x zoom lens enabled me to capturedistant objects, while the parallax compensation viewfinder allowed me tomore accurately capture objects up close.I developed 15 rolls of filmfrom this camera. The photos look crisp and colorful, and there was no redeye in the ones with family and friends.I definitely recommend the CanonElph 490Z!

4-0 out of 5 stars Everything You Want in your APS compact Zoom Camera!
This is a very well designed and compact camera. The Elph's well designed size allows it to fit anywhere, (i.e. handbag, pocket, and glovebox) easily and effectively. Therefore, you want to carry it more, and take far toomany pictures. As a result, of Cannon using APS technology greatly enhancesthe clearity of the pictures, along with the additional processing price aswell. The "H" setting or HGTV angle Cannon uses though greatlydistorts the edges of picture, one is taking.Lastly, another negative Ihave encountered is the length of life the Lithium (Expensive) battery hasa short life.Read more
