Not the best camcorder
We bought one of these a few weeks ago and were quite disappointed. The battery only lasted about 7-8 minutes, and YES, I refreshed and fully charged it and did everything I was supposed to. I don't know if it was a bad battery or if someone had used up it's life and returned it, but I have yet to get a response from the company about it. The picture quality was very grainy as well. It is a cheap camcorder, but in my opinion you don't get even get $200 worth out of this one. I took it back and bought a Sony TRV 280 for a little more and it is AWESOME! Batteries don't last long
I have had this camera for about 5 years and didn't use it all that often but when I did I was pretty happy with it until recently when the battery started lasting only 5 minutes after charging it.So if you want to get this camera I suggest picking up another battery
Had for Many Years and Still Love It
I bought mine at another store several years ago. I have only recently had any problems with it and that is the batteries. They do not charge anymore because of age and use, but other than that, this camera has not had any problems. I have never had trouble with the door. I love the effects. As soon as I can find a replacement battery, I will be back to videoing. I have taped a moving train, cats runing around and even a funeral on this baby. It is a great camera for as old as it is.

A very bad choice (it broke for no reason TWICE)
When I first bought this camcorder in December 2000, it seemed to work pretty well. But after 4 months, the zoom button broke. Then for no apperent reason the whole camcorder completley stopped working, so I had to send it to the JVC mechanics to get it fixed. When it was returned (after spending a lot of money to get it fixed), it worked well, or so I thought. Only 2 months after having it returned, the zoom button broke again, and the viewfinder turned green. Horrible camera
The picture quality is unacceptable, the VHSC format is a pain, it goes through batteries too fast, and it's shoddily built.Take advice from a guy who works with this kind of stuff all day.I bought this thinking it might be a good low-budget camera for home movies, but it's really worthless.After a month of terrible looking home movies, mine stopped working for no apparent reason.When I tried to call JVC, their customer service line disgusted me so much that I gave up, threw it out, and bought a slightly more expensive Sony model.I'm completely pleased with the Sony, and I highly recommend their camcorders for anyone.Just make sure to get the Digital8 format, it's really the best out there.

I recently purchased the Jvc GR-SXM740U Camcorder and took it on a trip. The picture quality was super. However I was very dissatisfied when I returned home and started to view the movies I had taken. The sound was awful. I filmed some of our movies outdoors and you sort of expect the outdoor sound quality to be less the perfect. But when I watched the indoor movies I could not believe it. Four people in one room and at times three of us could not be heard. It gave me a headache trying to listen to it. Then randomly the camera would just pick up stray noises outside. JVC Camcorder Model GR-SXM250U ~Lens Cap Error~
I bought this camera almost 2 years ago, and it has been great.This camera has a lot of cool features.However, I was very disappointed when I went to use it over the holidays, and it said "lens cap" on the screen.I thought I was crazy because the lens cap was removed and I still got message on the lcd screen.Long story short, I can only watch tapes and no longer record.I have notified JVC and I am still waiting for a response on how to correct the problem.I really like the camera and I hope it can be repaired.If any body has experienced this problem~ please let me know what you did to correct it and if it was very expensive.

This camera does a GREAT JOB for the price. It has all kinds of great features and effects. The only negative I can think of is that it makes a slight noise when zooming in and out.

what a great camcorder and value!
JVC GR-AX841 VHS-C Camcorder We use this unit to supply warehouse security systems to the industrial market. No wonder it is out of stock at Amazon (May2000). The camcorder arrived and was setup in about 10 minutes. It has performed without a 'hitch' for several months. The AV output is routed toan Intel PC Camera ProPack webcam. Intel provides with this product a lowcost.... time lapse and motion detection software CD utility. Boththe JVC and Intel parts work well together. I suggest buyers focus onWindows98 and 64MB RAM on their PC to avoid USB lockups on their PC. We arewell pleased and the systems work daily with only a regular environmmentalhousing we made to protect them from dust and cold. JVC makes a fineproduct which we will buy again due to its value and reliability.Thank-you!

The best camcorder I've ever used!
When I decided to buy a camcorder I spent a good month researching and shopping around.This product caught my eye in a display window in a popular department store here in Australia, and was reasonably cheap, so I assumed that it wasn't a great product. Even so I checked it out, anddiscovered that it had everything that even some of the most expensivecamcorders have, including digital zoom and numerous special effects.Itwas light weight and easy to use, and I don't regret buying it for aminute. Once out of the box, I had a quick look through the manual and hadthe camcorder figured out in a matter of minutes.The picture quality isbrilliant, and I would have to say that this JVC product was the bestinvestment I have made in a long time.I highly recommend it to anyonelooking to buy an easy to use, no fuss camcorder, and being JVC you knowit's a brand you can trust.

pretty good
this camcorder is okay.its not very good for making pro movies, but it gets the job done.its pretty cool.i lost the remote control to it, but with it, you can re-record sound, play it back, all that cool junk.

Good Machine
I really like this machine.The owner's manual is good and the features are useful.For VHS-C format, one has the option of standard-play for 30 minutes of recording or extended-play for 90 minutes of recording.The night vision feature is good - I recorded shots in almost total darkness and the camera made it look like the lights were normal in the room.The LCD screen is really good so that the user can use it for shooting or for playback viewing.The zoom freaked me out at how sharp the picture could be at about 50 or so yards.The price seems okay and this camera is a pretty good deal - for my purposes anyway.

It fell apart!
I bought this camcorder two years ago and never used it until a few days ago and it fell apart the second I began recording! The lens fell right off! and there is nothing I can do to get it fixed I should have tested it when I bought it. I do not recomend this camcorder as it is very cheaply put together.

I've tried others but none can hold up to the scrutiny that this product has experienced.Okay, so it cost me a marriage and a career, but I'd buy a back up, if I wasn't locked up.When I get out they'll have the third series available with higher restitution but softer focus.

Don't Waste Your Money
JVC continues to turn out products that are defective and they do not stand behind them.I bought my daughter a camcorder for her graduation and she is unable to use it because the camera displays an E03 lockdown mode message which disables the camera.Apparently the only way to fix this problem is to bring it to a dealer and pay for the repair.I also understand that it can be a reoccuring problem.There is a class action suit pending.Spend your hard earned money on a better product.

Best bang for buck
I have three camcorders that alternate depending on the event I want to cover. This one is really the one I like the most. First it has excellent resolution that should be expected out of camera of this cost range. My freinds were dazzled once we showed the playback on TV, people asked if it was digital. The battery life is also excellent and so is the quality and rate of charging..takes 1 hour for full charge..and 30 minutes charge gives 2-3 hours of recording. This is quite good for me. The inbuilt light source is good for night shots as well. Really liked it overall.

I bought this camera (my third camcorder), because of the name. As I found out the name isn't every thing. I had it 2 weeks, and in that time I had to call JVC (their online service never returned my e-mail) twice. The first time I could fix it myself waiting 45 min. Easy to use,
I have used this camcorder now for at least 3 years and it's a wonderful camera.I have used it everywhere, including weddings, birthday parties and during vacations.Since this camcorder is VHS formate, I like it how my recordings can easily be played in any VCR with just an optional VHS playback adaptor. It has neat features, like digital wipes and fades that can be used at any point to make a transition between scenes.It even reduces unwanted jitters from recordings made while walking or in a car. I also like it because it's very easy to use; and it has great digital zoom.

A blind bat could use this camcorder
This is a great first time camera. It is so easy to use that my next door neighbor, who was 5 at the time knew how to use it without me having to tell him anything and he isn't very bright. It is very simple to figure out, you press the red button when you start when your done you press it again. The only flaw is the battery that came with it has memory meaning you have to run it all the way out before you recharge it or it can only fillup to the level you stopped at,for example if you run it down 70% and then recharge it it will only go back up to 70%.The memory battery isn't the best!!! But the camcorder is great for anyone.
