3-0 out of 5 stars A neat camera but with some flaws
The camera is a fine small camera but with two big problems. There is no view finder, a real problem if you want to take photos outside in sunlight.Second, the screen that you use to frame the picture becomes almost invisible in sunlight, impossible to see and frame the shot. The manufacturers have made an effort to correct this by including means to brighten the screen, but it is not enough. The quality of the shots is good, some noise with the 400 speed setting. The shutter lag is not a problem unless you are shooting several quick shots in a row. There may be a way to set the camera in burst mode, but I haven't tried that.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very pleased
I currently use a Canon 20D, Canon 5D, and Canon Elan7ne with a variety of lenses. I wanted a very good - small "point & shoot" digital camera and the Leica D-Lux 2 not only fit that need it exceeded all of my expectations.
5-0 out of 5 stars A very good Digital Camera
I've had several digital cameras. However none have ever satisfied me.I use to be deep into photography preferring 2 format. Then, for ease of use and carry around I slowly moved to 35mm, trying to stick to Kodachrome 25, this gave good results. As I got into digital cameras I've had several. However none have ever satisfied me.I went to Sony Cyber-shot cameras, because of the good Carl Zeiss lens. This gave ok results, but it looked like I was using 400 speed film.I promised myself I would someday get a good quality Digital camera with manual shutter/aperture control.

4-0 out of 5 stars From an aging Leica user...
You can get the same camera with a Panasonic label for a lot less money, but Leica is part of my photographic roots, so I paid the premium for a little more style, and a nametag.

5-0 out of 5 stars Leica M - Best Sharpness AndContrast In Low Light
The Leica M is not recommendable for beginners. It lacks all the bells and whistles (no autofocus, no zoom lenses, etc.)that popular advertisement wants to make you believe are mandatory. You buy a Leica if you want to be in control of picture composition and creation and of course you buy a Leica M if you want to take pictures in low light situations. The rangefinder is significantly brighter than an SLR viewfinder. Finally and probably the most important reason to buy a Leica M is the lens quality. The quality, contrast and sharpness all the way out to the edges of the image are unsurpassed. I have not been using filters to enhance contrast, which I routinely did with my Canon SLR. A Leica M is also quite liberating, because all focal lengths are fixed - no more zooming around. What you have is what you get. And you get a lot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Expensive, but still good introduction to Leica M system
This starter kit is aimed for the well-heeled amateur photographer who is interested in the finest 35mm camera available. Although Leica purists may say that the Leica MP is the finest, I disagree since the Leica M7 has more features, most notably aperture priority automation and TTL (Through The Lens) flash, for the same price as the all mechanical MP. Unfortunately, the bad news is that unlike the MP, this rangefinder camera is virtually dead except for two shutter speeds if your batteries die out. And yet despite this inconvenience, the Leica M7 is the quietest, best handling Leica M rangefinder camera I've come across. It comes with a 50mm f2 Summicron-M lens which may not be the best 50mm lens currently available, but is still a fine performer, capable of taking fine photographs even under low light conditions with fast color or black and white film. Both the Leica M7 and 50mm f2 Summicron-M lens comprise an excellent introduction to the Leica M rangefinder system and 35mm rangefinder photography.

3-0 out of 5 stars Same as the Panasonic Lumix LX-1
This particular Leica is simply a re-badged Panasonic Lumix LX-1, which sells for a lot less. Now, for the image quality, I would have ranked it 5-star, it is simply one of the best P&S digital cameras in the market (and I agree with the DPReview review on the LX-1 as well).Unfortunately, simply because of the price point that Leica sells it at, while not having any difference between the two, I have to rank it at 3 stars, and I think that's fair, because it has now failed the value-for-money test.
4-0 out of 5 stars Leica D-LUX 2
This is a revolutionary top of the line point & shoot camera for the knowledgable digital photographer. RAW files give superb images effortlessy up to 8.5 X 11" (at which point some noise may show up in printing); there is no shutter lag to speak of, the Stabilizer function really works to make low-light shooting possible--to name only a few of the stand-out features. Its small size makes for easy carrying and inconspicuous candid shooting. The manual is excellent, and controls/menus are well thought-out.The only thing I regret a little is that it is difficult to hold securely.I also miss a range-finder, no matter how primitive, because the LED screen in bright light is difficult to visualize. I do not in the least regret the significant cost of this jewel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for the Minilux Zoom
I bought one of these in London recently. Odd because I don't have a Minilux Zoom! But I do have a Minilux and the shop explained that this case fits the Minilux just fine and that the zipper arrangement is better than the 'official' Minilux case.Read more

Editorial Review

Slide the Leica CF Flash's ISO flash foot into the Minilux zoom camera'shot shoe and explore a new world of photographic possibilities. This flash usesthe same smart-looking design as the Minilux and measures 2.2 by 3.2 by 1.1inches. Flash-burst times range from 1/30,000th to 1/200th of a second, providingfor action-stopping shutter speeds or mood-setting combinations with existinglight. Adding this 2.5 ounce flash lends your camera all of the inherentadvantages of more powerful flashes: more choices in aperture and shutter speed, the ability to fill in light for backlit subjects, add form and color in poorlighting conditions, and add or decrease the contrast in your photographs. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good add on...
I was surprised by the price of this item... In comparison to the price of the other Leica accessories this is a nice STYLISH addition to your Minilux Zoom for very little money. I found that regardless of red eye reduction build into the camera I would still get it occasionally. This flash is the best way to eliminate that. Also it uses AA batteries which means that you don't have to search for the special power source every time you run out. 35mm angle of coverage is good enough when I need to shoot indoors and more than enough if I want to be creative and use it for fill in flash. Pretty fast recycle ratio (about 5 sec). And since the unit is very small I find my self to carry it often and my flash photography doesn't have this typical Point and Shoot look. But the quality of marksmanship has a little room for improvement. Unit doesn't feel as good and sturdy as the camera itself. ... Read more
