Editorial Review

Featuring a high-tech design with aluminum front cover and metallic handgrip, the Canon PowerShot A70 combines a sense of both the modern and the traditional. Despite its entry-level designation in Canon's digital lineup, the 3.2-megapixel PowerShot A70 is a surprisingly advanced model with a higher resolution than its counterpart A60 model and more manual features than you'll find on most digital point-and-shoots.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Canon Will Replace Defective Image Sensor on A70
I think this is a great camera for the reasons stated by many reviewers.
5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTICCUSTOMERSERVICE
I had purchased the camera on Amazon to give to my daughter as her first digital camera. It was used, and had only a 64MB CF card as its only acessory, no cables or software. On the second day, all I could get on the display while pointing at a light was a slightly purple screen. I went online to Canon, checked under the model number, and found a few things out. Some of the ccd's were made by a third party company, and they were sensitive to heat and humidity. On the A70 page, it said to contact them, and they will check it out and replace the ccd for free if it had not been damaged by dropping it. They sent me, by email, a shipping label for free shipping. After one week, they emailed me and told me it would be a free repair and would take 7-10 working days. I just yesterday received the camera, and WOW, what a surprise!! Canon had replaced my older A70 with a BRAND NEW IN THE BOX WITH ALL ACESSORIES POWERSHOT A520!!!!!
2-0 out of 5 stars Okay for everyday pictures, fuggedaboutit for anything demanding
I've had this camera now for a little more than 2 years and I am ready to throw it out the window. I take flower and plant closeups as a hobby and the focus zones for the lens are unpredictable and uncontrollable even in manual mode. About 60-70 percent of the closeups I take come out Completely Useless because the camera has chosen to focus on an element in the frame that I did not want to emphasize. For example, a leaf to the side will come out sharp, while the flower itself is an utter blur, even on "macro" mode, although the frame was composed with the flower at dead center. What's worse, when the image is previewed on the screen on the camera back, it appears to be fine!

5-0 out of 5 stars good scanner
bought it in 2004 for $35, still runs great. USB1.1 is not bad if you don't scan everything at highest resolution, i.e. 600dpi in pdf color format. I highly recommend it if sold under $25.

5-0 out of 5 stars Using a scanner with an enlarger
I bought this as a base for making an image scanner for my Minox enlarger. This requires considerable re-engineering of the scanning element, and a lot of patience. However, the LiDE scanners are easily disassembled, and the scanning mechanism is simple to work with. As this unit is inexpensive, it is also practical in as much as you will likely destroy the first attempt.
5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent experience
This is my first scanner. I was a bit wary buying it after reading comments on its problems with Windows XP but I bought it nevertheless. And I am happy that I made that decision. The installation, configuration and its use have all gone so smoothly that I can simply recount it as pleasure. It posed no problems, what so ever, working with a Windows XP Pro.

185. Canon PowerShot G2 4MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom

Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Editorial Review

Quite simply, the Canon PowerShot G2 is an elegant, easy-to-use joy of a digital camera that boasts impressive 4-megapixel resolution, a 3x optical zoom, a bright LCD monitor that swivels off to the side of the camera and tilts up and down as needed, and maximum overall creative control in addition to a fully automatic mode. Of course, none of this comes as much of a surprise to anyone familiar with its popular predecessor, the PowerShot G1. Both of these cameras have features and picture-taking modes similar to Canon's EOS cameras, which means they have what Canon calls a "very camera-like feel." Some of the G2's more obvious improvements over the G1 (besides higher resolution) include a champagne gold finish, larger grip for easier handling, improved image and color quality, new photo-effect shooting mode for various effects, including black-and-white and sepia, and a new high-speed selectable three-point autofocus. 5-0 out of 5 stars This is a very sturdy, semi-pro - Excellent Camera.
This is the kind of camera that is a joy to use and explore. I have been using this along with a Digital SLR for about 3-4 years now and it still works great. I must have shot over 10000 shots using this camera with most shots being exceptional. The lens is fantastic, build is rugged, battery life is exceptional. This is a classic camera worth keeping for many years. For an avid photographer, the Powershot 'G' series is a good camera to have along with an SLR.

5-0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece of a digital camera
I've had this camera since April 2003, and it has been one of the best electronics purchases that I have made.I've taken about 5,000 shots with this camera to date, and the image quality with all of them is outstanding, even by today's standards.
4-0 out of 5 stars G2 in simple words
The G2 is a special camera. I bought it after 3 months of research in December 2002. It was a time when Canon had fixed all previous issues with the G1 and was improving on G2 to release the G3. I wanted a digital camera that can be used as a point and shoot one and also some advanced features for me to do some pro kind of photography and guess what I concluded and bought... the G2After having it for more than 2 years, I think I can write a reasonable review of it. It is a simple advanced camera !!! Sounds like an oxymoron, but it really is that. It is simple enough that an average Point and shoot person can use it and advanced enough that a pro can do some good shots with it. It has enough options in the preset modes to give a quick nice picture in each of those modes and also has a set of manual features for more creativity. The pictures are clean, crisp and nice. It has the largest lens compared to any camera in that segment. The software that comes along with the box is good value for money & sophisticated. I do not have to list the long line of features that this camera gives for such a small price

5-0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised
I recently purchased the Rebel T2 camera body only after my Canon EOS Rebel 2000 gave its "last gasp".I had been a Canon user since 1979 with an AE-1 (that I still have).
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Camera, beautiful pictures.
I got this after switching from a digital camera. The digital cameras didn't offer the depth I wanted and not having proofs was a big drawback.
4-0 out of 5 stars More than good enough
After researching several cameras in this price range, I bought the Rebel T2 last month. It has met my expectations and perhaps then some. After recently trying out a friends camera in the 150.-ish range, I partially regret spending what I did. It all comes down to what you need, want, and how many bells and whistles you like. For the money though, compared to the competitors, I still think I made a good purchase. After all, if I use it for ten years, which I most likely will, I will have surely got my moneys worth. Bottom line: no complaints with it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love 'em!
Great low - light viewing.I'm getting these for the boat, and their smaller size is a plus. They're about 3/4 size.Kids can handle them well.A bit heavier than I expected, but solid.I highly recommend them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ranger Platiunum NOT made by Celestron
The above review is actually ABSOLUTELY INCORRECT!Ranger Platiunum Class binoculars are NOT made by Celestron. They are made by Eagle Optics independently.Call them and ask! :-)

4-0 out of 5 stars Best waterproof binocular in price range
These are a great value with good eye relief (18 mm, important for use with glasses), easy to hold and focus, good sized exit pupil (8/32 = 4 mm), wide field of view (395'), and not too heavy (26 oz.)A large exit pupil is important on a moving boat; it's easier to keep the image in view. They appear to be rugged; I and several other people used several pairs of these for several years, and none of them went out of alignment.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice Camera - Terrible Lens Cover Design
My experience with this camera has been pleaserable for the most part. However, the lens cover is another story. The lens cover openning and shutting is the key to get the camera operating. After seveal years of use, something happened where the lens cover would no longer shut, making the camera in-operable.I sent it to Cannon for ~$150 service. After getting it back, it worked properly for a few months and then the same thing happened!I'm now in the market for a new camera (I can't keep pouring $$ into this one!).

3-0 out of 5 stars Great camera with pitiful battery
I use a Canon film SLR but bought this digital camera for everyday use. The camera in itself is great, in both quality and flexibility. However, the battery never lasts for more than about 30 shots, it does not matter whether the display is on or off. True, it recharges relatively fast but my regular camara has batteries that last forever. I am thinking seriously of selling this one just because I am tired of seeing the dreadful red symbol.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this Camera
I have not one complaint about this camera. This was my first digital camera.I have had it for 3 years now.It still works like brand new.I can take excellent quality pictures, quick download and even take great video that I have made all sorts of home videos using.I have never once had a problem with it and I use it almost 3-4 times a week taking several pictures or video at a time. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Love this camera
I was in the market to buy a new camera last year and walked into BestBuy alone just browsing.I have an older EOS Canon Rebel 35mm Camera from 1992, and I loved that camera too.
4-0 out of 5 stars Take the "pro-sumer" title seriously
This camera has been called a "pro-sumer" model and you should really take that title seriously. The quality of the pictures that it takes are just as good as a professional digital camera of the same resolution. The trade off is that it is really not happy being thrown in a bag (or big pocket, if it fits). Why? Because Canon have given it a really annoying power-on switch that is guaranteed to turn the camera on 90% of the time when you're moving it to or from a bag. To compound this problem, the lens extends (in your bag), pushing off the lens cap and leaving it open for possible damage. So, if you think of this as a professional camera, to be kept in a real camera-case, you'll probably be okay. If you're somebody, like me, who likes to throw his camera in a bag or pocket, you're going to be annoyed by the power switch. That said, I do LOVE the quality of the pictures and all control that the camera gives you over every aspect of taking them.
3-0 out of 5 stars Two weeks old and dead
I am a semi professional photographer and loved my Canon G2. So, I was sure my upgade to a G6 would be a pleasant experience. I took the first 20 pictures with no problem. Then, for no reason the camera stopped. Full battery charge...no display...nothing. Tech support suggests returning and replacing the camera. Hoping the next G6 will restore my confidence in the brand.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Binos. for Specific Situations
These binos. may look like a toy, but rest assured the optics and construction build are fantastic! However, keep in mind that they are best for specific situations such as viewing the opera from the balcony seats.I would not recommend these for serious outdoor nature or bird watching, they simply are not powerful enough.Similarly, I would not recommend these for outdoor sports viewing (e.g. football or soccer) as the field of vision is too narrow. For all other concert/theatre events they are great!Keep in mind that there is no neck strap, but rather a hand strap. The binos. are light enough to render this a minor impediment. Also, I noticed that the focus "sweet spot" is extremely tight...no room for error.I wear eyeglass, and these binos. were very comfortable with the eyeglasss left on.If anyone wants great outdoor/sports binos., check out the Canon IS 10x30s.Those binos. cost a lot more, but are "5 star" and beyond. The 7x17s are lighter and more compact, and will be more than adequate for the viewing situations I described. Another fine offering from a high quality manufacturer. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this if you have active children
This camera does a little of everything, video with sound as well as images. The pictures it takes can be fantastic. Unfortunately the subject has to be pretty still or in very good lighting to get a good shot. I took this camera to a soccer practice of a bunch of 10-year-olds in the daytime with heavy cloud cover and not a single photograph turned out. That included the few I used the built-in flash on (it couldn't focus). I also tried shooting some pictures at an indoor game that were disastrous because of the quick subjects (10-year-olds again) and low lighting.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Full Feature Camera, Some Issues
I have been really happy with the overall performance of this camera. I love being able to change how many pixels I want for my photos. I frequently will use the 5 pixel function so that I can later crop photos as necessary. Sometimes I wish that the camera were smaller. Also, we had to send the camera back to the manufacturer because the battery closure warped and the camera kept losing power. They fixed it quickly and for free.I was happy with the service.

4-0 out of 5 stars PC 140 is fine copier
I received the PC 140 copier in good time and am enjoying it.The toner cartridge was not very good however, but I've ordered a new one.It was too soft, not good blacks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Personal Use Perfect
Since I have no use for high speed, etc, but need some copies

Editorial Review

The Canon SureShot Tele 80 camera is a straightforward 35mm point-and-shoot. The 38/80mm dual focal-length lens enables you to capture a landscape in wide-angle mode or create a close-up portrait in telephoto mode at the press of a button. All major camera operations, such as focus and exposure, are automatic, as is the built-in flash with red-eye reduction.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, Easy to Use Camera, Great Quality pics
My first Canon is the origianl Sure Shot [...]. It has dual lens of 28/48. This camera took the best quality pics!!!!!! (this was going from a Minolta zoom). So I decided to try this tele for a longer distance [...]. Of course, great quality pics too!!! I also have a Pentax IQ zoom 160 (never ever had any pics turn out blurry till this camera)...still get better pics from my simple, tele Canons. Also have Canon Sure Shot zoom 105, again, still better quality pics then the Pentax, but not as good as the dual lens cameras.....
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Camera for low price
I was really excited when I got my Canon Sure Shot 80 in mail.I was eager to see its performance as I had heard that it was a little gem in performance.I was satisfied with the result that this camera costing [$$]provided. However, I would like to suggest to use the camera in Flash mode whenever you feel the light is not enough. It is an extremely good camera for its price and some of the pictures were like SLR quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars SLR Quality Photo's, Disposable Price
Yo, If you are thinking about buying this I would highly reccomend it. The dual-focus lens seems to bother some people, but it is actually this camera's strongest point. Being able to have a dual-focus lens, you are able to take advantage of the higher quality photos that will result. The red-eye doesn't seem to work as well as it should--(although, I don't really think that any camera can prevent red-eye). The "Auto" mode is the one that I always use, it is the easiest and most fool-proof. It also has a self timer, NO FLASH, and FLASH ON modes. It has spot-focusing which works exceptionally well. I really reccomend either using a local 1 hr. lab (a camera shop...not KMart or Target), or using one of the upscale mail-order labs. The photo quality blew me away. I was so amazed at the quality of the photos that resulted. It was almost better than photo quality of an SLR. Good Luck! ... Read more
