Editorial Review

The Canon EOS Digital Rebel brings advanced digital performance and SLR controls to everyday photographers. Whether you're new to digital cameras, SLR cameras, or even photography itself, you'll find that the EOS Digital Rebel is powerful yet fun and easy to use. It features a 6.3-megapixel sensor, automatic and manual controls, and compatibility with Canon's range of EF lenses.

This model comes with the Canon EF-S 18-55mm, f3.5-5.6 zoom lens. Compact and ultralightweight with impressive close-focusing ability, this lens features optimized coating for the Digital Rebel's imaging sensor to minimize ghost images and flare. It comes with a lens cap and dust cap.

Optics and Resolution
A large-format, high-resolution CMOS sensor captures 6.3 million pixels to deliver up to 3,027 x 2,048-pixel images. Other resolution modes include 2,048 x 1,360 and 1,536 x 1,024. As it captures images, the sensor amplifies each pixel's electric charge, for ultrafast image scanning. The large sensor also has a 3:2 aspect ratio, traditional to 35mm film, for a familiar compositional feel.

Canon's exclusive DIGIC image processor offers advanced signal processing algorithms that heighten precision and detail, smooth gradation in highlight areas, and create color reproduction that is as vivid as it is utterly natural. Additionally, the DIGIC's speedier processing improves the camera's battery performance, and adds to the camera's overall responsiveness and agility.

More Features
With the 1.8-inch LCD screen, you can zoom images from 1.5x all the way to 10x, moving up, down, left, and right to see any area up close. You can even advance to the next shot in the enlarged view with no need to zoom again. The Digital Rebel also generates JPEG small/normal image files to make image playback faster on the camera's LCD monitor.

The large-format, high-resolution CMOS sensor captures a staggering 6.3 million pixels.

Creative Zone modes include A-DEP, Manual, Aperture Priority AE, Shutter Priority AE, and Program AE.

Advanced controls will keep experienced photographers motivated and inspire beginners to expand their SLR skills. Creative Zone modes include A-DEP (automatic-depth-of-field autoexposure) to set a "zone of sharpness," Manual, Aperture Priority AE to set the aperture, Shutter Priority AE to set shutter speed, and Program AE to let the camera select different shutter/aperture combinations while maintaining a constant exposure.

The camera's controls are intelligently arranged. A mode dial gives you easy access to shooting controls to make even one-handed shooting comfortable.

Other features include:

  • Built-in, pop-up flash with an approximate 3-second recycle time
  • Continuous shooting speed of approximately 2.5 frames per second with a maximum burst mode of 4 shots
  • ISO speed range of 100 to 1600
  • 7-point autofocus with the following modes: One-Shot AF, Predictive AI Servo AF, AI Focus AF (automatically selects One-Shot AF or AI Servo AF according to shooting mode), Manual Focusing (MF)

Printing
Canon has introduced a series of printers designed to work directly with its lineup of digital cameras, including the Digital Rebel. Using these printers, no computer is required--simply connect the camera to the printer and start printing. Printers include Canon's bubble-jet direct printers i900D and i960 and card photo printers CP-200 and CP-300. New PictBridge compatibility allows you to connect the camera to any PictBridge-conforming printer and access a wide range of printing media, modes, and styles.

Storage and Transfer
Images are stored on CompactFlash Type I or II memory cards; the Digital Rebel is MicroDrive compatible. The Digital Rebel does not include a memory card.

Images can be downloaded to either a Mac or PC via USB 1.1, which means the camera can be connected to any USB-based PC running Windows Me/2000/XP or Mac running OS 8.6 or later without installing any software.

This camera can connect directly to select printers. Learn more about PictBridge.

Power and Size
The camera is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery (BP-511, included). It measures 5.6 by 3.9 by 2.9 inches and weighs 19.7 ounces (excluding battery).

What's In The Box
This package includes the EOS Digital Rebel digital camera with 18-35mm lens, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack (BP-511) and battery charger (CB-5L), USB and AV cables, and a wide neck strap. It also comes with Adobe Photoshop Elements and Digital Camera Solutions CD-ROMs with imaging software and USB drivers for Windows and Mac. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best bang for the buck - all purpose and Astrophotography
I did quite some extensive research before commiting to the Digital Rebel. I wanted a digital SLR mostly for family photos but also for Astrophotography. I signed in a lot of forums were this camera was the most recommended in digital astrophotography (non-CCD) as well as the best cost-benefit as all purpose camera.

I have intentions to modify this camera to take best advantage in astrophography. This means that I will carefully remove the included IR-filter in order to get better astrophotos. This means I won't be able to take terrestrial (all purpose) pictures as the photos will result redish looking without the IR-filter. As a consequence, I will probably get the Digital Rebel XT for family pictures.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great camera for its intended audience
This really is a great camera and to really appreciate it you have to understand its target audience. It seems clear that Canon has aimed this camera primarily at novices. Its point and shoot are as simple as you will find on any consumer compact digicam. Its creative setting should offer enough control and flexibility to keep most intermediate and advance photographers happy.First though lets go over some of the complaints people are writing about the camera.

1).I can't set up my photo through the LCD-----No you surely can't.SLR's are designed specifically to direct the light and image from the lens to the view finder. To the best of my knowledge, there is not a true digital SLR which allows you to do this. And there shouldn't be.You can keep the camera a lot more steady and get a much better view of what your image will look like through the view finder then you ever could looking at an LCD six to eight inches from your body.
2).Complaint number two is just as silly.Canon does not include a CF card with the camera.I've yet to see a digital SLR manufacturer that includes any media with the camera. Also when you consider that about the only card they could include without affecting the price much is a 128mb card with is next to useless in a camera like this.

Now to some more reasonable complaints

1).This camera is slow to start up (compared to many current DSLR's by Canon and Nikon). There really was not much that Canon could have done about that.It uses the same first generation DIGIC processing chip and same 6.3mp CMOS as the Canon D10.The D10 has similar short comings. If you can't live with this (about 3 seconds from power up till you can take a photo) you might want to consider the new Rebel XT or D20.You'll also have to decide if the extra responsiveness is worth an extra 200-300.00 bucks.
2).For continuous shooting you only get 2.5PFS and 4 frame bursts.Much of this is also do to the DIGIC.The D10 isn't much faster (though it does have a larger buffer (the images are stored in the buffer before they can be written to your media) which does allow it to continue shooting while the dRebel is catching its breath.I was very much aware of this "Shortcoming" before I bought the camera and understand it as a cost cutting method (larger buffers cost more money) and decided to accept this short coming rather then pay an extra 200-300. bucks.
3).Canon has crippled the camera by removing many manual control features(through software-The camera is physically able to carry out many of these functions but Canon removed the ability by programing the DIGIC chip (the firmware) to disallow these features.Clearly a business decision and one that make some sense. You really would not want to release a low cost camera with all the same features as your higher end camera. On the other hand, I really wished they would have kept some of the features they removed (like the ability for the user to adust the flash settings).
4).I can't shoot RAW images in the automatic settings.I can understand this. Most of the people using the fully automatic settings are probably novices.RAW images cannot be printed from the camera directly to a printer.RAW images require quite a bit of post shooting work before they're usable. If some one that really does not know much about photography were to shoot a couple of hundred RAW images they would be pretty upset when they found out they could not print their images and didn't know how to change that.
5).The Nikon D70 supports higher ISO's then the Canon. The ISO adjusts the camera's sensitivity to light (on film cameras it's the film speed). My answer to that is that the D70 does not support an ISO of 100 and the dRebel does.Personally, I would much rather have an ISO range of 100-1600 like the dRebel then an ISO range of 200-3200.The higher the ISO setting the more digital noise you're likely to get and an ISO of 3200 would seem to affect you're quality considerably. On the other hand, Canon's 100 ISO is perfect for bright sunny days.

I'm sure I missed some other complaints though I'm not sure what they are.To sum it up, this is a very easy camera to use even for a novice. The controls to adjust your camera settings and image quality are very easy to use and very intuitive. If you do understand photo editing are really want to shoot RAW images but don't want to have to manually set all the camera settings (aperture, shutter speed etc.), the P-AE mode only requires that you set the ISO which isvery simple (keep it as low as light conditions allow while retaining a high shutter speed). My main complaint is lack of documentation for include software (particularly the File viewer App which is required for converting RAW images).Granted downloading the PDF's from Canon's web site is not a problem but it should not be necessary.

Overall, an excellent camera for its intended consumer. The camera has all the image quality that the pros have come to expect from Canon's digital SLR's.The auto focus is very fast and accurate (especially compare to compact point and shoot cameras). The shutter lag is virtually non existent so when you press the shutter release it pretty much instantly shoots so you won't miss the shot (again unlike the vast majority of compact P&S which seem to take forever from the time you depress the shutter from the time it actually goes. One quick piece of advise whether you get this camera or the Rebel XT.Get the 18-55mm lens. For the money this is an excellent wide a angle lens, and it is only available with the camera.

Edit to review.I wanted to add that I was incorrect concerning lack of documentation for the software suite included with the camera. The camera does indeed come with full and complete documentation. In addition, for those interested in shooting RAW, Canon's File Viewer which is included with the camera is less then stellar. If, like me, you can't afford or justify the cost for Photoshop CS or the any number of RAW converters out there (most that cost over 100.00) you can head over to Canon's website and download Canon's new Digital Photo Professional. This is the RAW converter included with Canon's high-end cameras (and the dRebel XT).It is a free download and is vastly superior to File Viewer. It is much more intuitive, has a far better interface, is much faster and most importantly (at least to me) it allows you to perform corrections in real time so you can make changes on the fly.It has much better white balance control, and allows you to easily adjust hue and saturation, and lightness and contrast all while the file is in a RAW format. The only down side is that you cannot download the images to Digital Photo Professional directly from the camera as you can with File Viewer. You must either download from a card reader, or download using another application (such as Image Browser (included with the camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Canon Digital Rebel SLR
The Canon Digital Rebel SLR is no doubt, still the best digital SLR on the market for those who want both the combination of quality at an affordable cost. Since my purchase of the camera nearly a year ago I have found it to be quite a splendid camera, the 6.3 Mega pixel image sensor delivers great resolution with vivid, accurate colours. The lens which comes with most of the rebel packages (Canon EF 18-55mm lens) also delivers surprisingly good captures (don't be fooled just because of the cheap price of the lens sold separately) The Interface of the Rebel is very simple to use and has features for both the new photographers and semi-professionals. Highly recommended.

P.S. I believe that it is advantageous to purchase the Rebel along with the EF 18-55mm lens as well as the 75-300mm zoom lens, both made by Canon.

4-0 out of 5 stars overall great lens, but not great price
I cannot help but giggle when I saw comments like "great lens for the money". It is selling for $440 at here, even on so-called clearance. However, one can easily find the same lens at least $50 cheaper at some decent online camera store, such as B&H, ritz camera, etc. Sad Amazon...

4-0 out of 5 stars Sweet.... a pleasure to use, just a little heavy
Owned 2 weeks:

The only thing to cause me to stop short of 5 stars is the weight of the lens. Stabilization is great and worth every dime. Don't even think about the other 75-300mm non-IS version, it is junk - I tried it.You can hand hold this lens at 300 mm at 1/60!!No kidding.Focus is fast and accurate with my Digital Rebel - almost no hunting like on the other 75-300mm.You *must* get a skylight filter to protect the front element.

I'll update this review after a few months' use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the extra $$$
For the average user (that's me), this is an excellent choice for a zoom telephoto. The Image Stabilization feature works very well in outdoor settings. It focuses quickly - even on a moving subject.

This is the lens I take to airshows. Nearly every picture is perfect. As long as I keep the subject in the viewfinder (often moving over 300 MPH), it will quickly focus, and I get sharp pictures - usually so clear that I can read the (small) writing on the side of planes that were over 1/2 mile away when I photographed them. And, there is no need to use a tripod.

This is not a good lens for indoor or low light photography. But I didn't purchase a telephoto to use indoors. I am very pleased that I spent the extra $$$ for Image Stabilization. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value!
I bought this lens as a long range zoom for my Canon Digital Rebel. It is an excellent value for the money and gives you incredible range! It comes with a lens hood and also a very nice padded case too.

even though it does not state it here, the lens is actually the Macro Super II. this lens has a red ring around the top and comes in a gold box with a red stripe on it. make sure you get this version because it is the latest model.

there really is no better value for a long range zoom than this lens. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Lens
Excellent Build Quality & Range. Image Stabilization really works very well. Excellent Non 'L' Lens from Canon. I use this lens on my Canon 10D under Alien Bees Studio Monolights and natural light. I liked this lens results under studio monolights with IS turned 'OFF'.

But, I have one comment to make; It can never compete the contrast and sharpness of an 'L' Lens.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Lens with the Digital Rebel
I bought this lens on Amazon in June of last year and I have not been disappointed with it. Just make sure you buy a UV filter and a lens hood with it.

You can see some photos taken with this lens at my photo website:

http://www.picturetrail.com/bircher

Scroll down to the Oahu, Hawaii 2004 and Wild West Road Trip 2004 albums. All photos were taken with my Canon Digital Rebel and a Canon 18-55 and 28-135 IS lens.

5-0 out of 5 stars walk-around
This is a phenomenal walk-around lens when used on my 300D (and presumably, any other body with a crop factor of 1.6). This, of course, brings the range up to a usable 46-216mm lens, which, granted, chops off the wide end of things, however down to 28mm is covered by the kit lens... At any rate, this lens has an incredibly usable range for a great price. Visual qualties seem to be excellent (I have no "scientific" tests to verify this), and the image stabilization really is a useful inclusion. Like everyone else already said, it will NOT make up for poor technique, or compensate for a moving subject. Same rules still apply: brace yourself, exhale then shoot, etc. max aperature of 3.5 is still a max aperature of 3.5, so your light gathering is useable, but not blazing fast. Buy a flash and a canon 50mm for indoors and low-light. This is THE lens for the discerning buyer. ... Read more

The Canon EF 28-105 f/3.5-5.6 USM lens is a general-purpose wide-angle/zoom lens. Utilizing Canon's ultrasonic autofocus drive, the EF 28-105 canfocus on objects as close as 1.6 feet from any focal length. Utilizing the samehigh-quality optics as its predecessor (the EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM), theEF 28-105 features an updated housing design, which has a ring-type USM drivefor silent, high-speed autofocusing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great lens!!
This is a great lens. I bought the digital rebel kit recently and soon 'outgrew' the efs 18-55 kit lens. It is particularly soft at large apertures and makes it totally unsuitable for indoor handheld photography. I decided to go for 35 mm lenses rather than 'digital' format lenses as an upgrade to the kit lens. They are lower in price (relatively) and you also only see the center of the lens where the picture quality is the best. The Quantaray 28-200 (this is actualy a tamron) was the first lens I considered. i returned it after just 2 photos. it was much worse than the kit lens. Then I did extensive research and finally decided on the 28-105 canon. This equates to 45-160 which is good walking around range. Also fro outdoor wide angle landscapes, the kit lens good enough stopped down. I got the lens today from adorama and the indoor test photos are GREAT and show fine detail. The shallow DOF in macro mode is also nice. The kit lens is no comparison to this lens. I would highly recommend this to new enthusiast dslr (like Drebel)users on a tight budget but also crave for more from their digital rebel. All in all a wonderful lens. And did I say the build quality is great too not to mention the ghostly silent lightening fast focussing?

5-0 out of 5 stars Good lens for the price
This is a good, general purpose lens. It feels solidly built, and has a nice distance window.

This lens is light, but well built.I highly encourage you to buy the lens hood with this lens, as it is prone to flare.

Overall, I have been very satisfied with this lens. Not as good as an "L" lens, but at the low price of $250, you can't get better.

I am very happy with this lens.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice andterrificlense
Light weight, very fast forcuss and pictures were very sharp and bright with Drebel 300D. Very high recommended. I have a Sigma lense but the pictures taken were not as sharp as Canon lense.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Canon lens I've used
This is an excelent lens, I use it to shoot jewellery, such as watches, and the quality is almost perfect, I definitely recomend this Canon EF 100 Macro Lens, altough is Auto focus, the motor is fast and noiseless. I have no complains about this.

5-0 out of 5 stars An extremely versatile lens.
This is the lens I leave on my camera for general purpose use.At non-macro focus distances, it is a very fast lens in a convenient short-telephoto length. The images are sharp out to the corners. This is one of those great Canon lenses that probably deserves an L-series rating but is available without the red stripe and exorbitant cost.

Tested in an astrophotography context (point sources on black backgrounds - excellent for revealing aberration and coma), I have found that this lens is reasonably sharp at f/4 and completely sharp by f/5.6.For daylight terrestrial photography, the tiny aberrations caused by the wide-open f/2.8 aperture are hardy noticeable and by f/4 the images are exquisitely sharp.

There is a lot of glass in this lens - it is heavy.I highly recommend buying the tripod collar as it allows you to attach the camera and lens to a tripod or ballhead with much better balance.

Also, if you plan on using the macro functionality, keep in mind that the effective f-stop of the lens goes way up when you're focusing at very close range. At 15cm from the front surface, it performs as though it were an f/9. You'll either want a lot of light or a very steady subject and a good tripod (another reason to buy the hideously overpriced tripod collar).

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent lens for the budding nature photographer
Prospective buyers of a macro lens for a Canon EOS system can't make a better first choice than this 100mm Macro. The extra length over a 50mm macro gives much better working distance (space between lens and subject) in the field, and EOS-compatible lenses by other manufacturers match poorly with accessories and are nowhere near as sharp.

Compared with the earlier Micro motor 100mm Macro that Canon made (which I also own), the USM lens focuses *very* fast. The USM lens also can accept a tripod collar (by use of a small plastic adapter)--I recommend you buy the collar with the lens, as adjusting to a vertical composition with a tripod means repositioning everything. The front element is not recessed in the USM model, which makes lens cleaning easier. And build quality is improved--the earlier model was prone to its switches breaking (could fix it yourself with the ordered part, but really annoying) and eventually the Micro motor gearing gave out (no trouble so far with the USM ring motor). The USM model will work with Canon's 2x teleconverter by interposing a 12mm extension tube, allowing 2x magnification with lots of working distance.

I will quibble with another reviewer--Canon does make sharper lenses (notably their 90mm tilt-shift lens, which is a better choice for studio product photography), and sharpness compared with the earlier model is virtually the same. But this is still one of the sharpest lenses you can buy, and ergonomically a huge improvement over its predecessor.

If you are building up a set of lenses for outdoor/nature photography and you do occasional macrophotography, this might be the first or second lens to buy.If you work significantly at magnifications greater than 1:1, consider the Canon 65mm 1x-5x Macro zoom (which I can push to a decent 10x with the teleconverter).

Editorial Review

Though TTL compatible with all Canon EOS cameras and the manual-focus T90 SLR, the Canon Speedlite 420EX flash is also E-TTL compatible with all A-type bodies: EOS-1v, EOS-3, Elan 7 / 7E, Elan II/IIE, Rebel 2000, Rebel G, and EOS IX and IX Lite. The E-TTL function gives you features like high-speed FP sync mode and FE lock (spot/partial flash metering). The swivel head of the 420EX lets you bounce the light off the surrounding surfaces, giving your images soft, professional-quality lighting.

This flash also works as a wireless "slave" flash with EOS-1v, EOS-3, Elan 7 / 7E, and D30 bodies. The remote flash firing is controlled entirely by a master unit--such as the Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2, Speedlite 550EX, or Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX--connected to the camera, making it fast and simple to set up. When used with the EOS-1V, EOS-3, or EOS D30 cameras, additional features such as lighting ratio control and modeling flash are also supported by the 420EX. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 420 with G3
I've used a 420 with my G3 for about 2 years:
the two things that have most improved the quality of my photos are (1) external flash and (2) tripod...... mostly take the usual home photos (proms, birthday parties and so on) and some garden pics...... use rechargeable batteries with the 420 and have taken more than 100 pics on a full charge (have never used them up but carry a spare set of alkalines anyway)..... also have a diffuser for the 420 but have not found it to be useful..... now looking into getting a 20D or digital rebel and the 420 will work with either

4-0 out of 5 stars Can never have enough light!
The greatest shortcoming of the Canon Digital Rebel Camera is its built in, pop-up flash. The pop-up flash is too weak for many situations - and often is not spaced high enough from the camera body to avoid red-eye, lens hoods or telephoto lens bodies shadow. I purchased the 420EX to improve on these situations.

After a year of use - I LIKE my purchase of the 420EX.

Things I enjoy with my 420 EX:

1. More powerful than the built in flash of the Digital Rebel
2. Swivel/Bounce head offers great flexability for many different situations.
3. Synchs perfectly to the Digital Rebel's exposure computer through the hot-shoe or hot shoe extender cord. Measures zoom level of standard zoom camera lens - and gives a good overall automatic exposure.
4. Light enough to mount on an L/U aluminum bracket without throwing the camera out of balance. Use of a BGE-1 battery grip is highly recommended with a portrait photographers U bracket.
5. Not a power hog. Can get up to 150-200 photos out of a set of four 2300 amp/hr Ni-Mh AA rechargables. (Always have a second set ready to go if on assignment - with a charger for the expended batteries.)
6. Works well in slave mode. This is where it earns its money for me!
7. Works well with a bounce light diffuser hood for portrait work.
8. Height above lens eliminates most red-eye situations.
9. GREAT VALUE for the money!
10. Hot shoe mount eliminates all but the longest telephoto lens shadows.

Things I 'd like to see improve:

1. Not powerful enough. You can NEVER have enough light. The 580EX gains a full F-stop (or more) over the 420 EX - though you pay a price almost double in cost.
2. Battery door is flimsy - and sometimes fails to latch securely. (This is embarassing when you're shooting for a client and batteries are rolling all over the place - I know... I need to be more careful!!!)
3. Tends toward underexposure in large or high ceilinged rooms. (You can never have enough light!)
4. Lacks strobe, LCD display functions of the more expensive EX580.

A good solid product for most occasions. A great value for the money. Improves on the Digital Rebel's anemic pop-up flash. Eliminates most red-eye situations. Still not powerful enough for the discriminating photographer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Got a Canon SLR? Shoot Inside? Get a 420EX.
It doesn't matter if you shoot film or digital. It doesn't matter if you have an old Rebel XS film SLR or even a PowerShot Pro1 digicam (Not even an slr)!, if your canon camera has a hotshoe, This will work on it. And not just "yeah, it works", it'll be a "HOLY COW, look at that shot!" Bounce Flash is so easy it made me want to cry. And I use a 1986 manual focus T90 side by side with an Elan 7n. All you do is point the the flash head at SOMETHING white, and shoot. You'll never go back to direct flash. Care for wireless flash? the 420EX is the PERFECT slave, and with a 550/580EX or a ST-E2, you can control the light output without even leaving your camera.
Stop using the built in flash. Treat yourself to something nice. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Product swap by RitzCamera
Like Tushar I too ordered this battery from RitzCamera, at $69 without shipping charges, only to be shipped the BP511a which can be bought online in a number of places for $49. Appears to be a pattern of deceptive practice.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy BP-511 From RitzCamera
I bought these batteries from RitzCamera.com, via Amazon, or at least I thought I did. Ritz actually sent me the BP-511A batteries. For these, I ended up paying $69+$6.95=$75.95. But, amazon sells the same for $49 with free shipping.

RitzCamera is indulging in deceptive marketing and cannibalizing amazon's sales.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great
I am using this remote with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel and it works great! It would be nice to get the RC-1 so there isn't a 2 sec delay, but for my needs the RC-5 is fine.

4-0 out of 5 stars Canon RC-1 is a better choice (same price)
This is a nice gadget, but with one disadvantige over RC-1.. With RC-5 you CAN`T take pictures instantly, but only with a 2 sec. delay, and on RC-1 you have the choice. Other than that there isn`t much more to say, i mean it is only one button remote.. :) But offcourse, before you decide to buy RC-1 instead RC-5 check will it work with your camera (i have 300D (digital rebel) so in my case both of them work)

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering by extending and shading the end of the lens, ensuring no problems with vignetting or motor functions. Additionally, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact. Lens hoods match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

This lens hood fits the following Canon lenses:

2-0 out of 5 stars Good price, but not great quality
I am not impressed with Tiffen filters I got in this set.The finish of the rings are poor.Despite of previously poor reputaion, I recently purchased some 67mm Quantaray filter from the local Ritz Camera store which are of much better quality compared to this set of Tiffen filters.I never got Tiffens before, had good experience with Hoyas.I will probably stay with those from now on.Now come to think of it, Ritz camera indicated the Quantaray they had were made by Hoya.
The glass on all the filters are quite a bit more reflective compared to the Hoyas and the Quantarays. Not a good sign.
The circular polarizer had some smudges and some lense swirl that after 10 sheets of lense tissue and quite a bit of cleaning solution failed to be fully cleared off.Quite frustrating. All of the filters came with lint and a few little smudges on them, not sure if the store handling or the manufacturer handling was to blame, but none of the other filters I got before had this kind of problem right out of the box.
The set might be cheap, but it sure is for a good reason.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Quality filters
I am starting my career as a professional photographer, and I haven't had any problems with these filters. They come in a nice case, and are easy to attach to my lenses.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality Filters
The filters that I got are poorly finished. The 812 filter has a smudge on it, while all 3 filters don't screw on properly on my lens. All filters come off EASILY.They are totally useless.I suggest that you buy filters in a real store so you can try them on your lens. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste the space in your camera bag!
This kit is just junk. The "deluxe blower brush" is a cheap plastic blower in the tiniest size. There is a "tweezers" that is just folded aluminum sheet metal - there's no way that is getting anywhere near my cameras. There are a few sheets of lense tissue and a few swabs to use with the cleaning solution. The "lintless cleaning cloth" is an about 3" x 5" piece of something akin to reusable paper towels that you'll use about three times and then throw away. This kit is not worth buying at any price, because it's not worth the shipping charges. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great bang for the buck
Well I had my issues with this tripod and finally had to upgrade to a bogan but I got my use out of it.It's a great tripod for what it is, read its specifications and realize you can't exceed them and you'll do fine. When I started with it I was using an elan iie and some cheap light tamron lenses and it was a beauty to work with.Lightweight and sturdy. After beating it up for two years, upgrading to a 20D and slapping on a big honken sigma 170-500 lense I finally began to push its limmits and the tripod became too shakey for my camera. But now things were weighing a good 5 pounds which is on the verge of a no no according to the specs.

That said it's a great tripod, sturdy within its specified wieght tolerance...spiked feet are nice, flip locks are easy to open and close compared to the bogen and it's pretty stable.Whats also nice is you CAN change the head on such a cheap tripod so you can go with a ball head or something else.

Well I guess that's about all I have to say.Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best bang for money
This is a very solid and versatile tripod for the money. I used it for about 6 months and later sold it to buy heavier Bogen tripod. Ever since I am repenting on my dscision. This tripod is lightweisght (compared to Bogen) yet stable enough agains high wind and a 70-300 zoom lens with a medium size SLR body. The detachable pan/til head can be used for low angle macro shots and the legs can be set at any preferred angle. Only gripe is the quick release system, it can be better, but for 95 bucks I can not expect any more than the bundle.

5-0 out of 5 stars SLIK TRIPOD U212 Deluxe
Need a tripod to throw in the car and head out for the day - the Slik U212 deluxe is great.Legs adjust independently, bubble level, quick release mount, 3 way pan head, calibrated panorama guide, retractable rubber spike feet, and an added mounting post on the leg.Overall this is an excellent tripod, great stability for small and medium SLR's. This tripod is nice and I haven't even put my camera on it but I wanted to say a few positive things.I had no idea of the weight and when it arrived I wasn't sure it was the tripod because the box was so light. It's 3.3 pounds but it is very sturdy. It has 2 leg sections that extend and lock with a tiny level so you can make sure the tripod is level. The panning is really smooth and both horizontal and vertical panning has locking controls so once you get it positioned it won't change.

1-0 out of 5 stars over priced junk and impedes camera usage
its a pain to use this. slipping the camera into this case is not an easy task. You have to completely remove the case and the screwed on base every time you want to access the memory card or the battery. If you want to shoot some pictures you need to remove the case [you can keep the screwed on case at this time] Also, there is no room for accessories or a larger lens other than the stock lens canon gives you with the camera body/lens combination package.

3-0 out of 5 stars great camera, not-so-great case
This case does fit the camera fairly well and provides decent protection. The attached base does not inhibit shooting in any way.however, the base must be completely removed in order to have access to the data port, video out port, remote control port, flash card, or battery (which must be removed to be charged).I have had the case for a few weeks and find that i have it off more than on.It also seems to be too expensive for the quality you get.If I were to start all over again, I think I would buy a nice, generic camera bag that could also hold memory cards, the battery charger, and other accessories.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent protection when closed
I buy semihard, fitted cases for cameras if they are available, mainly so that I can throw a camera in my backpack without worrying about it too much. My other cameras are a Powershot G1 and an old Mintolta X-700, and the fitted cases for both of those cameras provide a decent amount of protection to the bottom and sides of the camera.I leave the bottoms on even when I carry them in a padded case, so that when I'm shooting, and I need to set the camera on concrete or on the ground, they won't scuff.

The EH16L is great when buttoned up, as good as my other semihards, but the fitted bottom only protects the the very bottom and the left side of the camerea. I understand the right side being exposed because of the rubber grip, but I would have liked to see the bottom lip (which protects the back corner of the right side) extended all the way around the back, which wouldn't have obstructed the controls. A detachable thin vinyl/leatherette backing with cutouts for the buttons and an insert for an LCD protector would have been ideal.

A big plus is the generous size of the the lens cover. It will close over my 28-300 Tamron lens, with a petal hood flipped backwards. My X-700 will only accomodate the 50mm prime that was in the kit.

I recommend the case if you want to protect the camera while lugging it around in a regular bag, but it offers minimal protection while you're shooting. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Way Too Small....
I went to a sporting goods store, bought a true water proof carry bag thats twice the size and was half the price. Now my Dig. Rebel, PLUS a second point and shoot dig. camera, 2 lenses, Canon's 420 flash, multi filters, charger and cleaning products fit with room to spare. Don't rush out to purchase this bag, you'll regret it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware of the advertised size!
I bought the 100EG for my Canon EOS-10D with a Canon 28-135mm IS lens and a Canon 420EX flash. My camera with the lens attached BARELY fits in the bag, and only after all the dividers are removed.A longer zoom wouldn't have fitted, period.Very dissapointed with the "1-2 camera bodies, 3-4 lensees, "AND" accessories" claim.Sure, if you own toy cameras. What's the point of removing the dividers? As far my setup, this bag is only good for 1 body and 1 small/medium lens, NOTHING else (as far as camera components), not even my Canon 420EX flash. Also, the waist strap is annoying since it pretty much useless and CAN'T be removed.I do, however, like the build quality and looks.I am going to gamble on the 10EG and HOPE to get ONE camera body, TWO lenses, and ONE flash in it.You'd think Canon would know how many of their OWN components could fit in their own bag!!!It's too bad Canon doesn't post more views of this bag with an example camera and lenses inside.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Starter Bag
I was looking at all of the other reviews before deciding to purchase this bag for myself. When the bag arrived I found that it fit my Canon Digital Rebel w/ battery grip, my 50mm EFS lens, and all the cables that came with the rebel as well as the battery charger.I have used this bag for a month or so now and it has held up well. After purchasing a 75-300mm lens I had to upgrade my bag as the 100EG would not hold everything anymore. If you are looking for a starter bag to hold a camera body, a lens maybe two, and a flash then this bag is perfect.Anything more than this I would recommend something a little bigger like the 10EG or 1EG from Canon. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Must Leave Power On to Save Images
I've known and happily used SanDisk CF cards before, high quality, good price. This Ultra II card comes with some worries.Since CF doesn't write at 9MB/sec, it uses a "buffer" to write a small amount (like 4 megs) to an ultra-fast buffer, then the image is slowly transferred to the main card. And there's the problem.

I lost every "last image" on my trip to Italy. When I powered on the camera, took say 5 pictures, it would record 4 and lose the last image. This is because I was turning the camera off after taking the 5th picture.I needed to leave the camera on another 20 seconds to be sure the memory card finished transfer of the images. So it's very fast, for a small burst of pictures, but LEAVE THE CAMERA ON.I did a lot of "that's cool!" pictures... you turn the camera on, take a picture, turn the camera off to save battery life.Mistake.Make sure you REVIEW the images (and not just the temporary image displayed after the picture is taken) before POWERING DOWN.

4-0 out of 5 stars It Gets the Job Done
I purchased two 256MB SanDisk Ultra II CF cards for use in my Canon PowerShot A95 5MP digital camera.I have had none of the problems described by some of the other reviewers. The card seems a little slower than the Canon card that was included with the camera package - but not remarkably slower. And considering the price and availablity of Canon cards, the Ultra II seems to be a good compromise of price & performance for this camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Card at a Great Price
I recently had to replace my Lexar 128 CF card for my Kodak easyshare that I use at work. FOr some reason, that card crapped out on me. I've had fairly good experiences with Lexar, but recently have heard more and more problems come up. Well, all in all, this card works great. The digital camera may not be able to take advantage of the write speed, but it definately is fast when using a CF reader. I would recommend this to anyone. I'm convinced that Sandisk is the way to go for all my future purposes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great in W2Ksp4 and WXPsp2, but not in Linux
This reader has installed automatically and worked faultlessly for months in my computers running Win 2K and Win XP (both have PC-Cillin AV and AdAware, avoiding the previously reported and typically idiotic Norton AV-induced messes), but it will not work AT ALL in Linux, nor apparently will any other USB multi-card reader without modifying the Linux kernel. It would be easier for most Linux newbies to buy Sandisk's single USB reader for Compact Flash, if that's what they use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional value; top notch in the market for card readers
This card reader is unlike any other. It is extremely versatile, and while it accepts 8 different types of cards, it manages to do so with a well-designed 4 slots that each accept multiple types of cards. This is a versatile piece of equipment in a very small and very elegant package.I don't like extra pieces of bulky equipment sitting on my desk, but this is a great design that looks fine beside by monitor.

It lights up when a card is accepted, and I've never had any problems with it not reading a card on the first try.It assigns drive letters to each slot on my computer, and it's a breezey 5 second operation to read a card and copy the contents to my hard drive.

The was completely plug and play.I don't think I read any of the enclosed instructions or manual at all.

Exceptional value, elegant design, and above all, a functional product.Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Color and Value
I just received my printer yesterday as a gift and it's the best one I've owned, hands down.I've printed an array of images from 4x6 to 8x11 and all of them are excellent.I also have a Canon PowerShot camera so I was able to start printing pictures without hooking it up to the PC.The detail is amazing and the colors are very vivid.Definately will be recommending this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars As good as it gets
IMO: I was really turned off of ink jet printers after having owned and then thrown away my Epson 780. The print quality on this machine was spectacular...for the 1% of the time the heads were not clogged.

So I waited a few years, hoping that technology would improve. The Canon i960 got good reviews, and hardly anyone complained about clogged heads, and the unit was being discontinued so prices have dropped to an attractive level.

Print quality is as good as it goods, no question. No missing lines or other artifacts. I have one complaint though, because the colour tone is very slightly yellow, noticeable on skin tones. I had to go to manual colour correction and reduce the amount of yellow by 10 points (out of a possible 40 points). The advanced options give you colour correction "pro" and it seems to add a slight amount of colour saturation but it reduces detail in the blacks very slightly. I print mostly using matte paper because it gives the best dark colour performance (gloss paper tends to wash out blacks leaving you with one shade of black) and you can put the print next to glass, whereas with gloss, contacting glass with ruin the print and also give you a smudge mark on the glass. The very slight yellow on default software settings resulted in me giving four instead of five stars.

The unit is very quiet. Just a very soft swooshing sound as the head moves back and forth. No need to use quiet mode.

Quality construction. Yes, it's made of plastic but the build quality is very good. Some have complained about having to remove shipping tape. So what? You only have to remove it when it's out of the box. Lots of products require removal of shipping tape.

You can use non-Canon paper, but results will vary with paper so you will need to experiment. I got excellent results with Epson photo matte paper, actually better than Canon's own glossy paper samples that came with the printer.

Don't worry about printing directly to the printer. You will want to run your pics though a computer to get the software colour correction. I tried printing with no software correction and the colour tone wasn't very good.
