A wide variety of paper types are also supported, including photo papers, roll papers (with included roll paper holder), inkjet transparencies, self-adhesive sheets, greeting cards, banner paper, labels, and envelopes. Compatible with both Mac and PC platforms, the 1280S's software bundle comes with both Epson's Film Factory and Adobe's Photoshop Elements 2.0 to help users get the best possible prints. Epson also provides a one-year limited warranty.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but not great
When this printer was introduced about 3 years ago it was clearly the best printer in its class. The prints looked nearly as good as lab prints, and the large format and built-in roll feeder gave options available nowhere else. But compared the best of today (Canon), the Epson 1280 comes up short in print quality and cost of operation.

Many people seem to complain about the multiple color ink cartridge, and blame that for the high ink consumption.I can say this is not true.Producing and marketing a three ink cartridge is no where near as costly as 3 times single-color cartridges. But Epson printers DO consume lots of expensive ink.

Besides the cost, I have two complaints: 1) prints invariably have a reddish hue (even though I am using Photoshop with native color profiles), and 2) the management of the roll feeder is clumsy invariably wasting expensive paper.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for Macs
This cross-platform printer works fine with Windows. However, its Mac drivers are near useless. The prints are off center and the images fill 2/3 of a sheet. There are no layout options with the Mac drivers. I have written Epson 5 times - no response. I spent $15 for useless Epson Support. Mac users - look elsewhere!

1-0 out of 5 stars what a dissappointment!
I did not buy this printer to print photos, so that may be why I'm unhappy with it. I bought the printer expecting it to print out renderings, plans, and presentations for school.

My first problem is that it DOES NOT print borderless at 11 x 17. If you read the specs carefully you can determine this, but it isn't readily apparent. It prints borderless at every size except for 11 x 17, which is the standard presentation size in many design programs. Also, it takes almost an entire ink cartridge to get one good print - the ink is always smearing or leaving droplets of cyan or magenta on the page as it prints out.

I think this printer was a waste of money, and if I had to do it all over again I would spend more money on a better quality printer, because I know I would save the money in the end on ink.

In short this printer has been a source of frustration and a huge headache. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great paper
i used this paper for a professional quality architecture portfolio, with high resolution images on both sides of the paper, and it came out great. took me two days to find a store that had it in stock, but well worth the hunt. and for the quantity and quality, well worth the price. definitely will use it again.

5-0 out of 5 stars I also recommend this paper
I also have used this paper for making family calendars this Christmas and found the quality excellent. It is not easy to find in stores.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good deal for the price
I wanted to create calendars for our family. I found this a good deal for the printer (I have Lexmark Z54) and for the requirement. I had taken 5 calendars out of this and it works good for the double-side calendar. I could get an excellentfinish. Color rendering is perfect and I did not find any smudging or bloating. The thickness is fine enough for a double-sided output.

I also found Matte finish better than Glossy in case of inkjet printers, especially this one, the best.

I would definitely recommend this product. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Print... Nearly
I'm a freelance illustrator who sells prints regularly. I bought the Epson 1280 printer two years ago thinking I could produce "professional" quality prints of my artwork. Much to my dismay, using the standard printer settings and the available epson papers, I got less than desirable results. The prints were plagued with wysiwyg problems. The art on the monitor looked great, but when it printed out, the colors were off!
I had to constantly tweak the printer settings to get the right colors. Not only that, I heard the prints would eventually turn orange over a period of time! I was about to give up on the printer, but then came along the colorlife papers.

Every print that I made with the colorlife papers have come out a near perfect match with its onscreen counterpart. The quality is terrific with vivid colors and great detail. The printout feels and looks like a real profressional quality print!Overall, I am very satisfied with this paper. Oh, I should also mention that you MUST download the colorlife printer profiles from Epson to get your prints looking right. Its a very short download and worth the small inconvenience to download it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best paper I've found yet
I could just talk about useless thinks, but I'll just mention something for those who consider this the best paper, and want to print 5x7 images.
First, this doesn't come in 5x7.So, to print as such, there is a way I've found to print 5x7 with the 1280, and other semi-wide format printers.
Load the paper in the tray landscape. (I know, they say not to do it, but it works.)Then, tell the printer to print your 5x7 centered on half letter paper. When the pic is printed, print your other image with the blank half of the page on the right, when you face the printer.
although this takes a little longer than might be desired, you now have made the best possible use of this paper, and have 5x7 prints ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars price AND performance
I've used Epson's Premium Glossy, Colorlife and Heavyweight Matte. The Matte is far cheaper and gives beautiful results.I've actually found that I like the Matte best for framing. It has a less reflective surface and looks more 'arty' than photographic. But I wouldn't recommend it for architectural, detailed photographs.A good benefit of both the Matte and Colorlife is that they have the longest rated life without fading of any paper for use with Epson's dye based printers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best for presentation/graphic printout
Epson makes great printer papers.I use Epson's matte paper almost as much as the regular inkjet paper. This paper is made for color presentation and graphic.I print out my portfolio and sample work with matte paper because it is relatively cheap to the high quality printout.I use the Epson 820 and the color print matches the monitor colors (98%) almost perfect.

For photo prints it is fine, but photos are simultaneous with glossy texture. If you like glossy photo then this is not the photo paper you would get.The colors do not jump at you nor have sharp deferential qualities that glossy can produce.Printing plain texts without color might be too wasteful (costly) for matte paper.I considered Epson the best in paper qualities over Canon, HP, Kodak and others for the quality/price.I have switched to the Canon i960 and am still using Epson's paper. It is that versatile.I tend to use the harder to find Epson double-side matte paper.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just like a real photograph
I use this paper with an Epson Photo 960 using the "Premium glossy Photo Paper" option. It prints photos as nice as any Ive seen printed. These are great looking photos. Now if they could do something about the price. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product
I print a lot of pictures in my business. This is by far the best paper I have used. I have several types of printers, Cannon, Epson, HP and this works well with all of them. This is a great deal as far as price goes as well. I did a lot of research to find the least expensive to try this product out and this was the best price and the fastest delivery! Professional or family fun this is professional quality paper.

5-0 out of 5 stars Professional Paper - Highly Recommended
This is a very professional looking stock. You will not be disappointed. Great price for a super Luster finish.
Colors and image really pop on this stock. I use this stock on my Canon i860 and have NO problems at all. Dries fast and looks great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Paper
I have anEpson 960 Photo Printer.I have tried various Epson photo papers with the printer and this is by far the best. The premium glossy paper was nice but I could see some bands through the image that were barely percepible even when the printer was new. With the Premium Luster paper the ink lays down beautifully and perfectly and the image has what I can only describe in words as a rich feel to it.Paper selection is very personal but if you have not tried this paper you owe it to yourself to run some of it through your printer. There's a good chance you'll be back for more. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great alternative to photo paper
We used to print our marketing literature on glossy photo paper (architecture firm, lots of pictures).Tried this paper and loved it.The pictures are just as crisp with only a very slight color difference from the glossy paper, and it's about 75% cheaper.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for Crafts and Photo Projects for school
Think about it. The paper is 100 sheets for 11 dollars. That's VERY inexpensive for photo paper. I used this paper to make nice wrappers for around Hershey's candy to make favors for a 50th wedding anniversary. It is also great for making photo pages for the sports teams memory books. It is thin enough to not make the pages bulky, but thick enough to not let colors bleed through. I use it with an HP printer and it works great. I don't own an Epson, so I could not say how it works. I do know that it works great for sending a collage of photos to several people as it is inexpensive and the thickness makes it easy to fold into and envelope.(I did just that for Christmas cards) I would not use this for making long lasting photos, but if you want a better quality page than normal paper, this is the route to go!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best ink for Epson is Epson - period !
I have produced literally stunning photo prints from my Sony Mavica CD300 digital camera with my Epson Stylus Photo 1280. It's only possible using Epson ink. I too have tried the "save a buck" approach with knock off 3rd party ink cartridges. Don't waste your money! The only true to life results you will get is by using Epson inks.
The colors are vivid and brilliant. 13X19 prints are spectacular with them.
BTW, I should also mention that the absolute best results I get are by using Epson premium glossy papers as well.
So if you want professional results and photograph prints that will knock your socks off, stick with Epson paper and inks for your Epson printer. It's worth the cost and you won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Color
For the Epson Photo 1270, the photo quality and color are excellent. I have printed digital photos that people cannot believe come from an inkjet printer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easiest way to get good colors with your epson printer
I'm an illustrator and I sell a lot of prints using my epson 1280. Considering at the time of my purchase the t009 color cart cost more than [X], the t007 more than [X], and paper costs, I was really cutting into by profits. I needed to find a lower cost solution for printing. And after extensive research I found that just sticking with epson cartridges was the best solution for the moment.

The problem with these epson cartridges is that they have a "smart chip" attached to each cart. These chips allow for real time monitoring of ink usage, but more importantly it prevents you from refilling your cartridge with the third party inks. However, there are many viable solutions to the chip problem like hardware and software chip resetters that resets the chip to full status. With the chip out of the way, you still have the problem of refilling ink with a syringe which is not worth the time nor effort and is very messy.

Another solution I opted for was to go with third party cartridges. In my experience with these carts I have found that it is really tricky to get as good of colors like epson ones. Sometimes they come out too red or too green. Other times too blue or yellow. The thing is, Epson printers using epson profiles are meant to be used with Epson inks. When they developed these print profiles they were using only Epson inks. That is why you will always get skewed results with any third party ink.

The ultimate solution to the 3rd party ink problem is to purchase custom profiles or profiling software and install a continuous flow system so that you don't have to mess with refilling ink. It will save you in the long run, but be prepared to plop down a few hundred for the setup. But if you are on a budget, you don't print a hundred prints per month, and want good results, just stick with the original Epson carts. By the way, they're pretty cheap now. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Ink Cartridge
I am very pleased with Epson ink cartridges for my 1280 printer.Have purshed over a dozen at amazon without any problems so far.The only thing I dont like is that the Black cartridge is too small, I use a lot of black ink, would like a bigger cartrdige.

3-0 out of 5 stars 1 defective 2 perfect
I purchased 3 Black Epson T007201 Inkjet Printer Cartridges through Amazon.com in January -- best price I've seen. The first worked perfectly. The second failed to work at all and my printer kept telling me that my ink cartridge was empty or not an epson ink cartridge. After powering off and on my printer, deleting it, reinstalling it, and restarting my system several times, I finally gave up and opened and installed the 3rd new cartridge. It worked perfectly. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get a replacement for the defective cartridge and I'm not having any success even finding a way to contact amazon about the problem. I'm hoping they respond to this review. If they stand behind the defective cartridge and send me a replacement, they get a 5 star review. Otherwise it goes to zero. Two out three means that my $18.94 cartridge (plus shipping) really cost me almost $30 each. For less than that, I can run down to Office Max and get it instantly - and return it instantly if it's defective.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Unhappy With Your Product
I order two ink cartridges from your company recently for my Epson Sytlus Photo 820 (Black and Color).Neither one of them have been worth the money spent. They do not provide ink.I purchase alot of ink for my printer and was hoping to find a suppler to fulfill my needs but your product flunked big time. ...
