1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY FROM AMAZON.COM
Better cards are available from other retailers - just check epinions.com - you will find a whole bunch for $19 or less. Also they deliver, while Amazon does not.The item has label "usually ships in 24 hours", but I have waited 5 (five !) days, and still it was not shipped. Do not buy this card, and check other place than Amazon. The Amazon stinks...

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic card - unbeatable price
I bought this SimpleTech card in early 2003 and have had great results with it.I have shot over 34,000 pictures on it using my Canon PowerShot G3.I use it extensively with my Dell X5 PDA.For the last month, I have been using it in my new Nikon D70 (over 5000 pictures so far from that).I originally paid about $60 for this card.

The card has never failed me.I have given it extreme use.I also have a 256 MB Sandisk card (it failed me once, and I had it replaced under warranty) and a 256 MB Viking card.I had read a review that the Viking card may not be compatible with the G3, so I never used it in that camera.I used the Viking card only in my Canon Powershot S400.However I did use all three cards in my PDA and in the S400.I have used the SimpleTech and the Sandisk both in my D70, as well as a new Sandisk Ultra II 1 GB card.

By comparison, the Sandisk 256 MB card was definitely the slowest when performing the same tasks. It could not keep up with mp3 playback on my PDA.It has noticibly slower write times for photos on my cameras, especially the G3. The SimpleTech and the Viking cards perform about the same as each other.Neither has noticeable slowness on my PDA.Photo write times on the G3 were acceptable with this SimpleTech card.It really did not cause a delay in shooting dut to waiting for pictures to write to the card.

Interestingly, on the D70, this SimpleTech card still keeps up well. The D70 has an advanced buffering system that can hold several (about 12 at normal quality full resolution) images while writing them to the card. This is so much buffer that rarely so I have the need to exceed this many shots in one burst. Thus, when I am using the SimpleTech card, it really does NOT slow down my shooting at all.

By comparison, I do notice that the D70 finishes writing pictures to my ULTRA II card sooner, especially after a burst of several frames.(based on the blinking light that indicates CF card activity)I really never have the need to shoot a continuous burst of frames all the way to a full 256 MB card.

My conclusion is that this 256 MB SimpleTech card is just about the best way to go for CF memory currently. It will cost you less to buy 4 of these (1 GB) than to buy one 1 GB Ultra II card. And then, if you have one of these fail, you will not be out of memory at a crucial time - because you have 3 other cards to use.And you would be able to get a replacement for the failed card later at your convenience.

I highly recommend using multiple smaller cards over single larger cards.256 MB is my size of choice, and this is my choice among inexpensive 256 MB cards. At the current price (around $20 at the writing of this review) you can't go wrong!

5-0 out of 5 stars Reliable and fast
I have been using this 256MB card for an year now on two of my Canon digital camera and a Casio PDA. It has always been reliable and there is no diminishing in storage capacity. Read and write are slightly faster than my San disk 256MB. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars OEM: There is no alternative.
This is the one area in which I insist on buying an OEM battery. I always buy generic-- film, breakfast cereal, even printer cartridges. But with batteries, I found the hard way that you can't do that.I bought two off eBay, thinking it was cost-effective(you can get approximately 12 generic batteries for the price of a Canon one), but they lost their charge entirely after a month or two.

I have two of these batteries. They still hold a pretty good charge after 10 months of use. Recently, for example, I was at an event where I took nearly 100 flash photos and perhaps five minutes of video(I have an S500... video drains the battery), and the battery still had power left enough to take more photos the next day-- and upload data to my computer.

It's a pity they're so expensive.

5-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY GENERIC, NO MATTER THE PRICE
I've read the other reviews on this item and these people know what they are talking about. DO NOT BUY GENERIC. ONLY BUY CANON BRAND BATTERIES FOR YOUR CANON CAMERA. I've tried the cheapie $5 generic battery, it didn't even last a week. I have also paid about $35 for a digipower which is sold at some stores in place of Canon at about the same price as Canon so you would think you are getting a good product for your money. WRONG! I have had my Canon battery for almost 4 years, and my friend has had one for 2 years, they both work as well as when we first purchased them. The hold a charge for a long time. Just beware when you're looking to save a buck, you'll regret it, I sure did. Having a back-up battery is a fantastic idea, but only if it actually works!

5-0 out of 5 stars good choice
make sure it has canon on it or it will not take a charge as good or last as long. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Case for people on the go!
I am a professional photographer. The Elph I have is my "play" camera.I got it because of it's size. The problem was it wasn't as convenient as I thought carrying it in my pockets.I found myself leaving it at home.SO>>>
I bought this soft leather case.It is exactly what it is supposed to be for me.A way to carry my Elph on my belt.I forget that I have it on.Until that really cool oppertunity arises.(Which, in San Francisco it does a lot)
The camera is right there at my side.Out in a second.I can take my photo and slip it back into the case with one hand.
Yes, it is a little snug when you first get it.But, this is soft leather and it "grows" with use.Fitting the camera perfectly.
It protects the camera from scratches. But, I wouldn't consider it as a protector, as much as a convenient way to wear the camera on a belt. The perfect case for people who are on the go as much as I am.

4-0 out of 5 stars Canon ELPH Leather Case
This is a cute little black case. My S410 4MP camera fits perfectly in this case (there is no room for anything else, so if you are looking for a camera bag which will fit all your accessories, don't buy this case).

The only down side is the big tacky gold lettering on the case. I wish they used smaller fonts in silver lettering. But it's a good case to lug your camera around in if you go on short trips.

1-0 out of 5 stars This will cover, but not PROTECT,your camera!
This case is effectively just a soft leather sheath. It has no strap or clip--just a belt loop--nor does it have storage for extra batteries or memory cards.

OK, so it's a classy little case, the price is right, and it fits the camera perfectly, but it fails at its basic purpose, which is to protect the camera. There is absolutely no padding or rigidity whatsoever, so when you put this compact little bundle into your purse or pocket, that vulnerable LCD screen remains just as vulnerable.

When (not if) you bonk something against that ill-protected screen, it will crack, and the $100+ repair will not be covered by your Canon warranty.

Ask me how I know this?My daughter, who purchased her Elph with Christmas money and a year's babysitting savings, has had hers for all of two weeks, and it's already on its way to the shop.I might add that this is NOT an irresponsible child, just one who carries pens and a calculator in her purse with the camera.

Avoid a similar scenario and spend a few bucks on a REAL case, please.Canon should be able to do better. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for the digital camera part
I enjoyed the chapters about digital cameras, that what this book is about, but I feel there are far to many chapters devoted to image editing with photoshop. Although there is a demo version on the CD I don't want to learn photoshop, I use PSP and if I want to learn more about image editing I have several books devoted to teaching PSP!
If you want to learn about digital cameras and Photoshop this is an excellent book,

5-0 out of 5 stars complete, easy to understand, helpful
I picked this book up on a whim when looking for gifts for others. And boy am I glad I did.I have other photo books that are either too basic or too specialized, or don't explain fully.I actually read this cover to cover, and am now going back and re-reading sections as needed. It's the most comprehensive and useful photography book I've found. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Look Elsewhere, especially beginners
This book is so fraught with errors, both technical and otherwise, that I will refrain from listing them all here.(I think another reviewer has already started that list...)

With so many books on the subject available, why roll the dice on this one?Caveat emptor - especially for those new to photography, but interested in building a good foundation for taking great photographs, digital or otherwise.

Rick Sammon's Complete Guide to Digital Photography would be a great place to start.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book I've read on digital cameras
This is the best book I have read on digital cameras. Dave has the gift of being able to explain things in very down to earth language. This book goes way beyond just using the camera, it covers editing, special effects, and many other subjects in the photography field. I REALLY LIKE THIS BOOK and highly recommend it to anybody wanting the skinny on digital photography.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could be a lot better
This book is basically has two parts. The first talks about your camera, and the second shows you how to modify your digital pictures on your computer. In my opinion, too many chapters are dedicated to the second part, and not enough to the first.

As the owner of a new and expensive digital camera, I knew I needed help in using it.The manual showed me what the camera could do, but not what I should do.This book doesn't help me enough.I need to find another book.

The discussion on photography is too sparse.I think part of the problem is that the book is old.Lots of features on my camera are not even discussed, presumably because they were not common when the book came out.In addition, some topics are only glossed over.

The chapters on using your computer to modify the images was of no use to me, even though it's more than half the book.If I had known that, I wouldn't have purchased it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ease of Display and Organization for Photos
I have been operating Picasa for three or four years and upgraded the program once.... which had some aggravating problems. But, nonetheless, I have purchased two other photo organizing software programs (Picture It and Photo Explosion) and I find Picasa still is above the rest in picture display and organization.I guess it depends on what you are looking for in a photo organization program. The merry-go-round display of your pictures and the ability to just run the slideshow w/music and enjoy them full screen can't be beat.
Their photo editing ability is a little on the weak side and I tend to use other programs for that as I do a lot of electronic scrapbooking. But if you want easy ability to download your photos into a computer and be able to go back and enjoy them - email them, etc.I would vote for this product any day!

5-0 out of 5 stars So Simple, So Beautiful!
Picassa finally has done what all the other programs have NOT done - they've made it SIMPLE! Red-eye, cropping, enhancing, etc. This is the easiest program I've ever used for photo editing. I use is exclusively now. Love it!

2-0 out of 5 stars Must Keep the Camera On to Save Images
I've known and happily used SanDisk CF cards before, high quality, good price. This Ultra II card comes with some worries.Since CF doesn't write at 9MB/sec, it uses a "buffer" to write a small amount (like 4 megs) to an ultra-fast buffer, then the image is slowly transferred to the main card. And there's the problem.

I lost every "last image" on my trip to Italy. When I powered on the camera, took say 5 pictures, it would record 4 and lose the last image. This is because I was turning the camera off after taking the 5th picture.I needed to leave the camera on another 20 seconds to be sure the memory card finished transfer of the images. So it's very fast, for a small burst of pictures, but LEAVE THE CAMERA ON.I did a lot of "that's cool!" pictures... you turn the camera on, take a picture, turn the camera off to save battery life.Mistake.Make sure you REVIEW the images (and not just the temporary image displayed after the picture is taken) before POWERING DOWN.

5-0 out of 5 stars First CF Card
I got lucky! After purchasing a Rebel XT, I wanted a CF card that was roomy and priced right. AT the time and place, the Sandisk Ultra II 1GB was the ticket. I was not well versed with the different write/read speads of different CF cards. The Rebel XT specs indicate 3 FPS up to 14 pictures. In high resolution JPEG mode (no RAW), my rebel XT never stopped to wait for an image to be written to the Ultra II CF card. I'm guessing I could've held the shutter release and kept on going 'til the card was full.

Take the time to read the other reviews by individuals who've done their research and are more experienced. I'm convinced based on personal experience and reading about others' and will continue to purchase additional Sandisk Ultra II 1GB CF cards. Right now I need more batteries!

5-0 out of 5 stars Card speed vs camera buffer dump speeds.
I've done a little research trying to find the best cf card for my Canon Digital Rebel XT.Scandisk has a new series of cards called Ultra III, with 20mb/sec speeds.Just because the card is fast can my camera take advantage of the speed? In my case not really. My camera dumps at about 6MB/Sec with most of the faster cards.I currently have the Lexar 80x 2Gig card, and have not had many problems other than a corrupt file every 1000 shots or so.My Canon does not take advantage of Lexars Write Acceleration, but I didn't find out until searching for another card. Here is a link to the test results I found.http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007 . ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Gem!
I picked up this car charger when I purchased my Canon PowerShot S500. At first I didn't think it would get much use and that I'd been pressured by the sales guy into purchasing it. But the charger has proven itself very useful and perfect for road trips.

It is super easy to use, you just plug it in to your cigarette lighter and away it goes. The lights work just like on the regular charger, so when the light turns green, you know you are good to go.

As for quality, this car charger isn't of any lesser quality than the regular plug into the wall one that comes with the camera. It is just as durable and it is definitely worth the price if you are on the road with any frequency. It is a little on the larger side, so it may not fit nicely in your glovebox.

All in all, this is a gem!

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice Charger
On the surface, this charger appears to be nicely made and convenient for auto use, just a bit pricey. Unfortunately and do to design, the charing unit does not securely hold the battery inplace. I've found that the battery slips out too easly, and can and does get ejected out of the charger if you hit a firm bump on the road. It's something you will want to keep an eye one. Got to where I needed the camera today, and again I found the battery on the floor of my truck.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast!
I recently got a Nikon D70 digital SLR and was having to transfer large amounts of files to my computer. As in, 512MB to 1GB.I only shoot in RAW so they fill up.Anyway, transferring 512MB from the camera (which was USB1 speed) took quite a long time, I think it was maybe like 10 minutes or even more to do 512MB.

With this Sandisk card reader, it's much faster, taking more like one minute. It looks snazzy too; more well-made than the piece of crap off-brand my friend got free with a camera that he bought (and faster). There aren't a lot of features to have on something like this but it does have a nice green light that comes on while a card is inserted.

On Windows XP, no installation of any sort was needed; I just plugged it in and instantly I had an extra removable drive visible in My Computer, which I then setup to automatically open in an explorer window whenever a CF card is inserted.Pretty easy.

For reference, I am using Sandisk Ultra II CF cards with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars It just works!
If you have a digital camera that uses CompactFlash memory cards, this is a must-have accessory. Instead of plugging in your camera directly and draining precious battery life, simply take the CF card from the camera and put it in one of these. Use that battery life to shoot more pictures! If you're using Windows 2000 or XP (I can't comment on Mac compatibility, not having tried it myself), it will be detected and configured automatically. No need to install any special software either; just use it like any other disk. Oh, and even if your system doesn't have USB 2.0 ports--mine doesn't, unfortunately--it will still work with older USB 1.1 ports. Just be prepared to wait slightly longer for transfers.

Oh, and if you take the reader and a CF card with you (it's small enough to pocket quickly), it makes for quick, easy, high-capacity portable storage.

Update: I've also had a chance to test this in Linux, and it works perfectly there. Just make sure to compile USB Mass Storage Support into your kernel or as a module.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value for a good product
This Compact Flash reader does just what it says, and it does it nicely. It is built well and is very light, and the price can't be beat.It is a USB 2.0 connection (backward compatible with USB 1.1) and I've had good experiences with the speed of data transfer.

I had an old Pocket PC for years but recently had to get rid of.However, in the Pocket PC I had a Compact Flash Card that was still in working condition and I wanted to keep it.Purchasing this product allowed me to take the old data off of it and even use it as an extra storage device (like another disk drive).

In addition, I recently bought a Canon Elph camera (which uses Compact Flash cards) and I wanted the ability to transfer data to my computer WITHOUT using my camera. This was a very important reason for my getting this item.I can now take out a Flash card and send the pictures to my computer even though my camera is low on batteries, or is not available.

It is a pretty simple item, but it does have a couple of minor features.First there are 4 rubber circular pads (about the size of dimes) on the bottom of the reader. This helps prevent it from slipping on a table.(This is important because the reader is so light that the USB cable can curl and push the item around).

Second, there is a little green light (on the top) which comes on whenever you have media inserted. This is good because you can tell if you've inserted it correctly.

I am very happy with this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for long films and high volumes of photographs.
I will begin by saying I cannot believe the poor quality of the previous reviews, simply atrocious. On to what I hope will be helpful to others.

If you have a Canon Powershot, chances are you will be fine just using the battery.I bought a second battery so that I don't have to worry about running out of power while I'm shooting photographs.

In contrast, I purchased the ACK-500 for my S410 so that I can shoot long films and a high volume of photos without wasting the battery. It is important to realize that the Canon NB-1LH battery has 400-500 charge/discharge cycles (third-party batteries have even fewer).

For most people the number of cycles isn't a big deal. But say you want to shoot 6 hours of film in a single location or you are shooting a ton of flash photos from a single location - doing all this using batteries would become tedious and you'd quickly use up your battery's effective life. With the AC Adapter Kit you can go indefintely, as long as you're connected to a power source of some sort.

The kit comes with a little rectangle that looks like the battery but feels lighter. You put it in the same spot as the battery, then you plug in the AC adapter and run the power cable to the faux-battery (that's what the rubber cover on the battery slot is all about).Setup is a piece of cake and it works exactly as advertised.

The kit is great for some people; I would suggest you buy your camera and use it for awhile.Try to think about how you use the camera and what you want to use it for and then make your purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Não tem muita utilidade

5-0 out of 5 stars Small, light weight and easy to use
This small digital camera is very easy to use and is small enough to fit into a pocket or purse. The owner's manual is clear and the displays are well-designed.If you haven't used the camera for a while, or only skimmed the manual, you can figure out the basic controls fairly well.

The LCD screen is a nice size and gives a clear sharp picture.

It takes approximately 2 hours to charge the battery.

I bought an extra battery and the upgraded memory card.I would strongly recommend getting the larger memory card.I would also recommend getting the AC adapter kit when you buy the camera.Without it, you will be using up battery power when you download the pictures to your computer. ... Read more
